Still thinking about Bardet up on the podium with his father, so soulful. Another proper racer reaching the end. I think during that time you were either a Pinot guy or a Bardet guy, never cared for Pinot but Bardet always captured something ineffable for me.

Just as you stood out more than fifty years ago, Pogacar now dominates. Could there be a bit more competition?

>Merckx : “I think so. Who else did we see in the spring? Van der Poel. And Evenepoel when he’s healthy. In my time you had Godefroot, Roger, Freddy Maertens, Demeyer… And in the big tours Gimondi, Motta, Ocana, Fuente. Now it’s all a bit less in the tours. Except for Vingegaard. And even him. Vingegaard races so little. And in Paris-Nice at the beginning of the year he didn’t make a good impression on me.”

>De Vlaeminck : “It's certain that Vingegaard is a good stage racer, but he doesn't ride. What do they pay him for a whole year? And I won't talk about Pogacar, but what opposition does he have? Like they let him ride 90 kilometers in the Strade Bianche. And the only one who tried something is Pidcockske . Come on, boy. They wouldn't have dropped me so quickly there. On the sand, in the stones. I would have liked to ride that race. Or Pedersen. They are making a really good one of him now because he wins a few stages in the Giro d'Italia. But he can't win a time trial and he can't win a mountain stage. Then you're not a super rider to me. What has Pedersen already won?”

>Merckx : "Watch out. Gent-Wevelgem, three times. And if he doesn't crash at a bad moment this year, I still want to see it in Paris-Roubaix. And he was strong in the Giro."

>De Vlaeminck : “Strong? I won 22 stages in the Giro d’Italia and I finished fourth in the final classification. And I’m not going to talk about Eddy. How many times has he won the Giro? Five times? Pogacar will have to hurry. Eddy is better behaved than me. More careful. A different character than me. He can’t help it. Listen, I won’t say that Pedersen is a bad rider, but he’s not a good one either. And he’s certainly not super. That’s my honest opinion, and that’s the truth.”

There's no such thing as a break day when UAE and/or Visma are on a dick-measuring contest.

Even last year in the Tour, it took a very good Cararat performance, a very long leash and week 3 fatigue for the break to to beat the peloton in a mountain stage.
Anonymous Denmark No.149199920 >>149199992

I don't think there is a binary destinction of "pogi-climbs" vs. "Jonas-climbs". Pogi climbs at extremely high speed compared to Jonas. We saw yesterday, that Pogi may not be able to keep up that speed for long periods. Perhaps, if Jonas can keep his pace over a longer period, he gas a chance, but he has to attack on one of the earlier climbs, or at the very bottom of the final climb with 17 km to go (which may not be enough). It all depends. Pogi may just be able to sit on Jonas' wheel at the lower pace that Jonas rides at. If that's the case the amount of "Jonas-climbs" in the world is very low. What's evident is that 1) Jonas has to be the attacker, and 2) Jonas needs to attack at a distance, where Pogi cannot pace away from him before breaking. Pogi said himself, that he slowed down yesterday because he didn't have to keep up his pace. It may be the truth or it may be a lie. If it's the truth, Jonas-climbs do not exist.
Anonymous United Kingdom No.149199947
>>149199851
1/1 odds are good for pogacar here. I think I'll take it. I just thought maybe with visma knowing they have no chance they'll just pack it in and sit on, leaving only UAE to ride if they want the stage getting zero help from anyone. Sivakov didn't hold back whatsoever and they closed Bardet in the valley yesterday for another stage, that showed a lot of intent. Should be a pretty safe bet but I'd like to be able to watch the race from the start, Dauphine is no small race. The breaks matter too.

>It may be the truth or it may be a lie
Very clearly truth, it was a very similar stage to what we saw at the tour last year. Dude taking the piss out of his rivals showing how easy it is for him. Like when jonas was about to blow last year and he was eating and riding hands free, then seconds later just attacks after Jonas dies.

They shouldn't go all in for GC, get as many stages as possible. Jonas can just wheel suck pogacar and get an easy 2nd. They need to attack for stages instead or they'll just settle for a shitty 2nd place on GC.

I'm not so sure. A lot of cyclists, and Pogi especially, use interviews to attack their opponents confidence. Remco does it as well, but he has mellowed put a bit. Jonas is the only rider who actively seems to lower his own confidence during interviews. I think that's cultural, and not a strategy - a lot of danish riders downplay their ability in interviews, Jonas is just an extreme case

He lets himself be dropped, goes down to his car to get a bottle, whistling back up the line 10 km/h faster than everyone else, his mouth in the wind, and gives the bottle to his teammate. Ten km later, probably warmed up, he's going to attack and blow it all up. This borders on disdain, contempt for all the rules. Is no one going to see him and tell him? If the weather wasn't just right, that is there was a little rain or it was a bit cold, they just wouldn't train. They'd do a 30 minute ride to a cafe, relax, then do 30 min back home, while Thor would do his full 4-5 hour session.

Quick rundown on cleaning bike in the shower? I am living in an apartment for the first time in my life and my poor bike is overdue for a clean. I used to do a full scrub once a week or every other week, and I really miss the squeaky clean ride.

I am switching to wax (Silca paypig) this week in part because it seems easier to keep clean. I am also considering replacing my shower head with a detachable wand model to get a better rinse angle.

5 mountain stages, all the in second part, all mountain finish, they will all end with the big names waiting for the final 5 km (unless Pogi decides he wants to humilate the competition)
It's always the same climbs, the same roads, the stages are a copy-paste from other editions, there's basically nothing new
Even if I'm not a fan of TTs having only 30 km of standard TT is not enough
Lack of long stages
I like the hilly stages in the first part

5/10, very low effort

At least last year we had a bit of Mercantour which is rare. I don't know why they always do the same climbs, I think it's mostly municipality paying to get the tour. Also never understood why we don't get more cevennes/Ardèche stages, they could be fun

It's good that there is a lot of mountaintop finishes. Mountain stages with downhill finishes should not exist. Otherwise yes, it's pretty boring and most of the big climbs are there just because Pogi cracked there in previous years lol.
