>FIFA staff based in Miami wanted the 2025 Club World Cup to “lean more heavily on smaller MLS stadiums, particularly for games that may involve teams who are unfamiliar to the U.S. market,” according to sources cited by Adam Crafton of THE ATHLETIC. Their thesis was that “hot-ticket events could boost revenues,” while FIFA would “also avoid empty seats in the first edition of a remodelled tournament.” Yet, senior officials in FIFA’s European office wanted the Cup to be “the biggest and the best.” FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s ambition “was reflected with the choice of stadiums,” as eight of the 12 venues have capacities in excess of 65,000 and only 12 of the 64 games “will be played in MLS-dedicated venues.” This leaves “modest fixtures in huge stadiums.”

Should be stated that I'm pretty sure that there would be smaller attendance in like the UK but smaller stadiums so it wouldn't look so bad

FIFA is retarded and corrupt, they are very lucky attendance numbers have been OK so far. Had they used some smaller venues for some matches and cheaper tickets, they would have way more packed stadiums. The fact that DAZN is letting you watch for free is already a good strategy, they should do more of that

It's not a "strategy", it's that nobody else wanted to pay what FIFA was asking for the broadcasting rights and in the end only DAZN remained.

what are some bad arguments against the CWC and how do you refute them?

for example, fatigue

FIFA didn't add any matchdays for this tournament and are perfectly entitled to use their matchdays however they want. Why do you blame the last competition added for players' fatigue? That's like 5 guys pushing a car trying to getting in to go, another guy comes along and helps and the car starts and then saying the car starting is entirely caused by this superhuman guy who pushed the car all by himself. The CWC doesn't even do most of the heavy lifting or pushing in this analogy. The PL is 38 games and the CL is 15/17 games. They contribute way more to player fatigue.

>player fatigue
This tournament is replacing the Confederations Cup in the calendar. Some player would had played in the summer anyway

>we all now the all best teams are in Europe, there's no need to have a cup with thirdies
Should domestic cups only have teams from the 1st division? Should the UCL only have teams from the Top 5 Leagues?
It is a world cup, teams from all the world should participate. In every competition there are teams better than others.

>it has no history and it is all artificial
well duh, it is a new tournament. Only time will tell, depending on how seriously the top teams treat this cup if the CWC tracks with the casual fan. And for the artificial thing, that's football nowadays. Every tournament is just about money. You can't compete if you aren't owned by some transnational rich company.

>the champions from England, Spain and Italy aren't in the cup
Yeah, that was very bad luck.
For logistics reasons, you have to understand that you couldn't have teams qualying for this kind of tournament just 1 month before it starts.
Some things FIFA could do is
-make it in the winter: but every league calendar would be fucked so I don't think it is a good idea
-increase the limit per country: if it was 3 per country instead of 2, Barcelona and Liverpoll would be in here
-the most recent tournament having more weight than old ones

Nah, there's already too much bloat. two FA teams is fine, although it should have been Arsenal and Villa based on the latest confederational championship performance, not historical confederational titles going back four years in Chelsea's case, or Liverpool based on domestic success.

but why is this fair? just because you happened to have a stand out season in the year leading up to the cwc you deserve to play at it?

what about the last 2 years instead of 4?

>just because you happened to have a stand out season in the year leading up to the cwc you deserve to play at it?
Sure. Better than questioning why a team is there because they had a standout performance years ago.
>what about the last 2 years instead of 4?
I wouldn't mind seeing CWC become a tournament every two years. If a team declines because of fatigue or prior engagements, FIFA can always just ask the next best team.
You could also qualify teams by taking the single best performing FA team in the UCL from the the year of the CWC (e.g. Arsenal this year), plus the single best performing FA team in the UCL the previous year when there wasn't a CWC (e.g. Man City last year).

You know what? I kinda like the best in a 4 years period in a way. It rewards teams that have consistently good result. Like Barcelona who were out in the group stages 2 years, now have consecuences. With any system you gain some teams and lose others. In the current one you risk having teams that have been getting worse over the years. But if you give the spot to the best in the last season you risk letting out teams that had an off year.

Maybe I wouldn't give an automatic spot to the continental champions. Winning that already gives them a place in the next champions league, super cup and intercontinental. I think that's enough.
