Well, well, the first half the season is now finished and we have one more entry into /WORLD TOUR WINE/ (bier) before the Tour starts!
Today we had TWO new classics -- one in Andora (which was interesting) and one in Copenhagen (which was soulless and shit). OBVIOUSLY the UCI decided to make the Copenhagen "Sprint" a WT-level race. Fortunately the race was disgraced by a completely fraudulent top 10, and there is already MUCH discussion at the highest levels about either demoting this race to 1.Pro or even removing Copenhagen altogether (the city, not just the race).
Despite frequent reassurances from the resident schizos that Danish wine actually exists and is good quality, I was not able to find any, so we are having a bier.
Carlsberg "Elephant" Premium Pilsner ($3.50)
While I've had Carlsberg a few times overseas (seems to be the default shit beer at pubs across Europe), I have never had the Elephant variant. Indeed, there is a charming elephant on the can which sports a nice pale golden color.
This pours a light honey with off white mousse, reduces quickly. The nose is a bit flat -- malt, corn, just the very lightest noble hops. The palate is actually nice, with nicely balanced apple/malt character and a pleasing bitterness to the hops. I was stunned to see that this is 7.2% which is totally absent on the palate, very nicely integrated alcohol.
Not bad at all. If I wanted to get shitfaced on beer that wasn't too heavy, this would be a good choice.
>>149363423Beyond based post
also the Elephant comes from picrel which is the entrance to the old brewery not far from where the pedalton passed today

Your body can't release the energy it needs.
When sedentary you're not burning enough energy for this to happen, the fat to glucose conversion can keep up with expenditure.

German documentary claims cycling still ruled by doping thanks to Aicar, the new EPO
17 years ago, cycling found itself in the last major doping case to date: with Riccardo Riccรณ, Stefan Schumacher, Leonardo Piepoli and Bernard Kohl caught, it was a major scandal, but older fans still remember the Festina affair. Today, doping is more in the background, but a documentary by the German ARD sheds light on a potentially gigantic problem.
>>149379855In the documentary Geheimsache Doping: Im Windschatten (Secret Doping Case: In the Slipstream), the doping discussion is rekindled by a number of whistleblowers, all of whom have a place in the cycling world. They tell their story, with the associated risks. 'A lot of people are afraid to talk', says a former professional cyclist who rode at the highest level. 'I know someone who wanted to testify, but he received death threats when the masterminds behind doping found out that he wanted to talk.'
The last time someone was caught with banned substances in the Tour de France was during the 2015 edition. Luca Paolini (Katusha) had to go home after testing positive for cocaine; in 2012, Frรคnck Schleck was caught with a diuretic. But the witness laughs at the remark that the sport is now much cleaner. 'If you believe that nothing illegal has been taken during the Tour de France since 2015, that's a joke. I was close to it myself and noticed that doping just continued.'
>>149379867Is the substance Aicar the new super doping?
So what are the substances that are reportedly being used in the peloton? EPO remains a popular substance, so it is said. By microdosing it, that is to say taking undetectable amounts, one stays under the radar during doping controls. But the main culprit is Aicar. This substance improves blood circulation and a change in the muscle fibers, which is said to be enormously beneficial during endurance sports, according to the Doping Authority. 'People who are active in professional cycling say that Aicar was and is the choice in the peloton', says a whistleblower.
Initially, the substance was developed as a remedy for cancer, but also for cardiovascular diseases. Ron Evans, professor and biologist, is seen as the father of Aicar. From the beginning it was clear that the substance would not only be used in medicine, but also in top-level sports. 'It opened a door that has never been closed again', Evans confesses sadly.
>>149379876The window of time in which Aicar can be detected is very short. The anti-doping authorities therefore do not really have an answer. But there are many similar substances available. 'If I were an athlete, would I take Aicar, knowing that it is on the list of banned substances? Or would I take a related product that is not on the list?', says Oliver Catlin, an American doping expert. He found no fewer than 166 other substances that had similar effects, of which only four were on the list of banned substances.
French doping expert: 'I cannot explain what I see on the road'
There are other experts who believe that the sport has indeed become cleaner. According to them, the enormous leaps that have been made in terms of performance can be explained in other ways than doping. 'The big developments are much more important than the advantages of illegal substances in the past', says Filippo Galli, product developer at Colnago. 'We have countless innovations: material, aerodynamics, weight, bike control, grip, comfort.'
>>149379887Others remain highly critical, including Pierre Sallet. The Frenchman was an exercise physiologist at Tour organiser ASO, and was highly critical of Chris Froome's performances in the past. 'We know the limits of human performance', he says. 'We know what a person can achieve and what not. There are certainly grey areas, but at some point that becomes black, and then it is doping, 100%.'
In the time of Lance Armstrong, Sallet coined the term 'aliens' on the bike, something that is now used for Tadej Pogacar in particular. The Frenchman can do little with the current generation of super athletes. 'I can't explain what I see on the road. A normal man is between 1.60 metres and 2.20 metres tall. But the performances we see are sometimes as if someone is 3 metres tall.'
Roger Legeay is president of the MPCC, the organisation for credible cycling. He argues that the anti-doping rules are lagging behind and that is why no one is being caught. 'That is exactly why it is the job of the managers, the doctors, the team leaders and the riders. They have to do it. All the people in cycling: they are the ones who have to ensure an ethical and clean sport that arouses less suspicion.' However, the documentary also reports that there are still a great many suspicious figures in the professional peloton: 14 of the 18 WorldTour teams have someone in their employ who has been found guilty of dirty tricks in the past.
Ah, the yearly pre-Tour doping stories. Just journalists doing their job, I guess. A wonderful tradition; summer wouldn't be the same without it.
>>149379946For me itโs the yearly Festina affair that gets dugges up
>>149379966I'm surprised they don't mention Dr. Fuentes/Operacion Puerto. That was much bigger imo.

Or designer drugs. Just keep banning shit when we find out they made another variant thats 0.1% different.
Why not just forbid everything and have a whitelist instead?
Not that that would stop athletes from using non-detectable shit, but at least shit would be more logical.
People should shut the fuck up about grey area stuff. There's literal retards out there that thinks ketones is somehow suspect. Meanwhile, in much bigger sports, they get caught just straight up using steroids and nobody cares.
>>149381196>They also tried to buy a blood centrifuge from the very same Slovenian medical companyMedical equipment company dares to sell medical equipment. Shocking, how dare they.
>>149381240I just realized that thetwo top contenders for the TdF come from countries with a strong pharmaceutical sector. Denmark represents 3.8% value of global pharmeceutical exports, and Slovenia 2%, ranked at 11th and 14th respectively. Good permiance for such small countries.
Also fodder for squeekers.
>>149381199>Or designer drugs.This. That wouldn't go against the law or rules, and therefore wouldn't even technically be ''real'', but it would go against the ''spirit'' of the law.

I havent watched this documentary and have no idea how to weigh any claims made in it. I just wanted to post it here for all to read. Could be all slob to stir up some at least some Tour fever (since that is at an all time low after the Slovenian dopeur crushed everyones rekindled hopes in the Dauphine)
However, the problem with things like this is you will never hear something ''real''. Because if something ''real'' is actually found and brought out in the media then the house of cards has already collapsed for a team or an individual. The first moment something ''real'' came out in the media with Lancoid was really when that retard confessed on Oprahs couch. Up till than none of the rumours, which were plenty of, and theories- of what and how they did it were ''real''.
>>149381308There was planty of real evidence that Lance was doped long before Oprah. He tested positive in 1999 and 2005, former teammates like Landis and Hamilton said he doped, journalists following US Postal team cars dropping syringes in trash cans in 2000, etc

He regularly took testosterone, especially after difficult races, to help recovery. He got it from the team doctor. Three times he received EPO from Dr. Peter Janssen of Deurne, his personal medical supervisor at the time. "Janssen thought it was important that my hematocrit should not exceed 50. You heard in the peloton at the time that Mario Cipollini thought racing with a hematocrit below 55 made no sense. But Janssen didn't agree. He was thinking of the health risks. The CEO of the Lotto team confirmed to the public service that the 23-year-old rider will indeed be at the start of the Tour de France in less than two weeks: "He will be. The timing was tight. There was the false start in Cologne (he abandoned after 40 km) , the setback in Mayenne (De Lie was ill and did not start). But he did not have a forced break in his training. Otherwise, he would never have finished the Tour de Suisse, given its difficulty [โฆ] He is ready for this Tour de France. I prefer to see the glass half full. He arrives with freshness. In France, De Lie will be joined by Lennert Van Eetvelt and Jenno Berckmoes (recent winner of the queen stage of the Tour of Belgium), who will be the other two protected riders of the national lottery team. Is the Specialized Rockhopper expert 29 for $550 a good deal?
>>149410104Gently used boomer special

Boomer is too clueless to post pictures of any of the stuff that matters, so he probably just let everything rot. Suspension forks are high maintenance, unless you're doing legit mtb stuff just get a rigid hybrid with decent tire clearance if you don't want drop bars. It'll be faster with less upkeep. Looks like this is on sale for less money:
https://www.trekbikes.com/us/en_US/bikes/hybrid-bikes/active-fitness-bikes/fx/fx-2-disc-gen-3/p/35003/
Or this one with a carbon fork and slightly better parts but only manlet sizes for $680.

>>149410193During the crash they changed to "generation" instead of model years so they only had to make new shit once they sold all the old shit instead of every year like before. What's even the difference between PCM and the Tour De France game?
On my ride this morning I passed a young man, maybe 18 or 20, going up a climb. As I went by and said hi he turned to me and went "Yes sir, good morning sir" with a slight bow of his head. I found that amusing as lately I've noticed clerks and such calling me sir instead of bro. Anyways this rider reminded me of my younger self, in the first summer or two I was riding. Loose basic jersey, no bike glasses; at that age I managed to save myself a bit by careful reading of The Rules, unfortunately it looked like this young man hadn't found such guidance on instagram or whatever. Anyways I moved past him up the climb and eased off after getting a gap of a bikelength or two. In my early years, if a rider passed me I would have dug deep to try and hold their wheel. This young man had no such hunger. Kids these days.

Sam Bennett, Clรฉment Berthet, Benoรฎt Cosnefroy, Dries De Bondt, Dorian Godon, Victor Lafay, Nans Peters, Bastien Tronchon and Andrea Vendrame will no longer be wearing the colors of Decathlon AG2R La Mondiale. Decathlon still has some absolute garbage who they inexplicably gave multiple year contracts. Naesen has done nothing since 2019. Stan Dewulf is shit. Gianluca Pollefliet? Who the FUCK is that. Coincidentally all Belgian. What is this, Cofidis? Terrible
>>149420698Naesen is a funny contract. I wonder when they signed his latest contract/how long it was for. He is such a rider from another era, but even in his era he wasn't "sign for life" material.
