The Chief of Staff for Auburn football has quit to take a job as a fund raiser at Liberty. He came to Auburn from Liberty with Hugh Freeze. That's he's jumping off the Freeze ship to a much lower level position at a far lower level school is highly unusual. It's possible he simply wanted to return to Virginia "to spend more time with family" but more likely is trying to get ahead of what's coming for the program this season.
>>149777446Why does that guy always look like he was just released after a night in the drunk tank?
>Stalions bristled at the latest attempt to suggest Michigan won or lost games because of his sign-stealing role with the team.
>"There were 7 games in my time at Michigan where I knew almost every signal the whole game: 2021 MSU, 2022 MSU, 2022 PSU, 2022 OSU, 2022 TCU, 2021 Georgia, and 2021 Wisconsin," Stalions wrote in his post. "We lost 3 of those games because we didn't tackle well, and Georgia was historically good. We won the four other games because we dominated the line of scrimmage & tackled well. Blocking, ball security, tackling, run fits & coverage tools.
>"That's football. This is not rocket science."
I miss college football so much bros
>>149778927Begs the question of why he went to so much trouble to steal signs if it apparently doesn't help you win at all
>>149777446Is a fund raiser at a private school flush with cash, mega donors, and a religious angle (easy sell) really that much lower than head secretary at a middle of the pack SEC football program?
>>149777446He was a former Liberty football player. His new position at Liberty is an Associate AD position.
>>149779679For career advancement, yes, it's a huge step backwards. For quality of life, if he plays his cards right, it would be incredibly comfy, especially since the fund raising side of things typically is independent of whatever is going on with the coaching staff. A bad coach can make the job more difficult but when he's fired, the fund raising staff isn't fired with him like happens if you're part of football operations.
Dude may have decided he's not interested in following Freeze around the country on his way down to coaching at a rural Christian academy and would rather put down roots in Lynchburg. If not for all the weirdness surrounding Freeze, I'd assume he had family business back in Virginia that needs long term attention rather than it being a signal about the state of the football program at Auburn. That weirdness does exist and the timing is sus. Maybe it's coincidence but I'd bet on the guy knowing something and being proactive about his own future instead of panicking around Thanksgiving looking for a new job.
>>149779773Nick Saban is a former Kent State player. He still jumped at the chance to leave the Kent State coaching staff to go be an assistant at Syracuse. "Coming home to momma" is marketing spin that only the most gullible fall for.
>>149779837The guy is a bean counter not a football coach.
>>149777446>>149779773Itโs a promotion. Retards donโt understand this, but thatโs what it is. Especially for someone who isnโt a football coach, itโs a big promotion.
>>149768800>>149769159Well what do you know, just as I suspected, that's a fake article. A google search for that title returns nothing but meme pages, and a search for Jakob Blinken returns no one by that name.

>>149772484>Also, Texas is NOT a southern state btwDon't make me tap the glass again.
>>149781097Bowden was WVU's head coach from 1970-75 and Saban was varsity at Kent State from 70-72. Though now that I think about it he might have been a freshman in 1969 which means Jim Carlen wouldโve been the head coach and Bowden only the OC.
>>149779184He wouldn't, which is why this whole "scandal" was absurd from the beginning.
>>149781663The sign stealing and IRL scouting of upcoming opponents definitely happened. Why do it in the first place if it's not to help your team win? What did Stalions/Michigan get out of this if not a better chance of winning?
>>149781805It's hilarious that people here still don't get that what you've posted there ISN'T AGAINST THE RULES! Literally every major team has a guy like this. Why do you think coaches always hold the play sheet in front of their faces when they call plays? They know someone is watching!
This issue here isn't whether Stallions deciphered signals on the fly during Michigan games. Of course he did, but NCAA rules don't prohibit that. What they DO prohibit is going to games your team ISN'T in and record video of someone's signals. But no one has provided evidence of Stallions actually doing this. And considering the "All 22" video that coaches always get of their opponents ahead of time gives you a view of both the players and the coaches, why not use that instead of traveling out to games and record something from 40 rows up into the stands with your cell phone camera, especially when the former isn't prohibited but the latter is?
This whole thing is silly and shows a lack of understanding of how football actually works. But hey, it gives you an opportunity to scream "CHEATER!" at a team that you don't like, so by all means, have at it. I'll just keep laughing at your ignorance.

>>149782956>>149786738>>149789511Apparently, the QB coach at CMU at the time was an old friend of Stallions, and invited him to the game as a personal guest.
Funnily enough, that wasn't technically a rules violation, either, as Stallions wasn't there on behalf of Michigan. But it ended up as one of those "the cover up is worse than the crime" things, and the QB coach lost his job and the head coach "retired" after last season.
>>149791151The guy on the ground probably said something antisemitic
>>149791310>CMU officials said preliminary enrollment numbers showed 14,411 students are attending the Mount Pleasant-based institutionโs classes this fall.>The last time CMUโs student population was smaller: 1973, when enrollment was 14,270.>The decline this semester marked the eighth consecutive year the university experienced a decrease in students. CMU hit its all-time enrollment peak in 2015, when 25,528 students attended classes there.Central used to be a party school but some academics hated that so they cleaned things up and now the students are going elsewhere. Don't necessarily disagree with the academics as getting teens to go deep into debt to have a four (or more) year party is a moral hazard. Nevertheless, the school is clearly in decline. Maybe they'll plateau with a student body that's mainly there to earn a degree first and party second.
>>149791310Of course it is. Both stallions and the qb coach had Michigan ties.

>>149791559Seems like Eastern is in the best place to survive if they have competent leadership. Ypsilanti sucks but is so close to Ann Arbor that students there can LARP like they're attending UM. The western suburbs keep growing even if the state overall has stagnated. If they could Techwood the housing projects, the western creep of Detroit's suburbs and the expansion of Ann Arbor would make gentrification happen.
But competent leadership is far from guaranteed, especially at down market schools. I've never been a big fan of them leaning into the decaying rustbelt identity. Play up having the UM experience at a lower cost and with less effort instead of advertising that it's a decaying dump.

Prestige programs act as bait, while the rest of the catalog is padded to maximize enrollment.
>>149793413Grad school has always been "part time" numb nuts. It's a tradition at this point. The ye oldyn tymes, grad students were expected to work at the university and their classes were offered after business hours to accommodate their schedules and the schedules of the faculty who taught those courses (since they are also often more advanced/senior faculty who have more obligations). When Gen X'ers needed to go back to school because graduate degrees started being needed more often, they just slid into the old graduate schedule.

Would Alabama have beaten Washington?
>>149792302Did you know that Eastern Michigan's mascot used to be the Hurons, before some woke loser decided that was "offensive" and they changed the name to the Eagles? True story.
>>149797175Their history is a bit weird but there's little reason to actually care. They started out as the Normalites, which everyone agreed was stupid, so they had a contest, with Pioneers and Hurons being the top choices. One of the students who suggested the name did so because he worked at the Huron Hotel. Decades later the state government spent a bunch of money on a civil rights commission to find things to be angry about, which included using Native American names on things.
The university committee on renaming things to offend white girls less came up with three choices: Green Hornets, Express, or Eagles. The obvious choice of Emus was never given any serious thought. A couple decades later, band dorks, being band dorks, thought it would be edgy to wear the old Hurons logo on their uniforms but being cowardly band dorks, the logos were hidden inside the uniform sleeve where no one could see them. Also being band dorks, they couldn't keep a secret so word got out and the professionally offended pounced into action.
It's too bad the Huron tribe has a bunch of wampum up their asses and can't make a deal with the university like the Seminoles do with Florida State and the Utes with Utah. Unlike some schools like Stanford that had goofy Indian logos at times, EMU's Hurons logo always had been dignified, even if a bit lacking a chin.

There has been no resolution to the conflict between the PAC12 and Mountain West. Since the mediation process failed to resolve the issues, the two lawsuits, one about poaching fees and the other about exit fees, are headed to trial in September.
On the line is about $150 million in fees that the PAC12 and schools changing conferences could owe to the Mountain West. Losing both cases would be damaging to the PAC12 and the new members but they would survive. If the Mountain West loses, it doesn't have the money it promised to UNLV and Air Force to stay in the conference, meaning both are likely to leave. UNLV's finances are in bad shape and they need the extra money, making them an easy poaching target if their extra share vaporizes.
If UNLV and Air Force were to leave, that would leave the conference with only six full football members. It's unlikely they could poach anyone from the AAC or SunBelt. They could swallow their pride and bring in New Mexico State. UNM would be unhappy but desperate times might call for it. They could also pressure NIU to become a full member. Another option would be to simply merge with Conference USA. Delaware and Hawaii in the same conference would be ugly but the bottom of FBS often has such issues.

They do however have all their living expenses taken care of and receive service pay.
While they do have a budget they have to stick to, they really don't play money games in the traditional sense. They play strong programs for exposure. >>149810517The exit fees are part of the court case but even without that, they were promised extra money from the conference. >>149812585Casuals don't and probably can't understand the Flexbone. They just want to see deep bombs, high scores, etc. It's why football, especially the NFL, over time has limited what defenses can do. Same thing happened with the NHL, NBA, and to a lesser extent MLB. Casuals just love lots of scoring, unless they're non-Americans, then they're fine with 0-0 ties and faking injuries.
>>149812690If an academy is good enough to make the playoff they are probably scoring a lot of points by option standards. Casuals might not understand the intricacies of the playbook but they can understand gouging the defense with nonstop 5-15 yard rushes and dominating TOP.
>>149812727Unless it's how Air Force runs it, which is very tradition. A LOT of FB dives, even if just for 2-3 yards. I'm not sure casuals will ever like that or understand the purpose. >>149812789>Army would have games where the other team had 1 possession in the first quarter, and it was glorious. That kind of game control is amazing.Army had a 14 minute drive vs North Texas last year
>>149813817And that's how football should be played. Grind your opponent out of the game, wear the defense out early, and keep their offense off the field.
>>149813782Best ever arguments are dumb for this reason. Thereโs no real way to compare.
Now greatest ever, thatโs a fun discussion.
>>149813782Improvements to nutrition and training have effectively turned modern athletes into ubermensch. 50+ years ago they were still regular people who just happened to be a bit bigger and faster and more athletic. Baseball and soccer are the only sports where you can reasonably compare players/teams across eras. Bad basketball/football/hockey teams would humiliate the best team in the league 50+ years ago.
>>149813849Not even a fun discussion because the skill gap and how advanced the game has gotten is absurd. Burrow's LSU team would BTFO of every great team prior to 2000 or maybe even later. Even that loaded Miami U team wouldn't stand a chance.
>>149813869>Baseball and soccer are the only sports where you can reasonably compare players/teams across erasNot really. Pitchers throw so much harder today than ever before. Anything pre-steriod era (so basically pre-90s) wouldn't have a chance. Babe Ruth wouldn't even make a team today. Griffey Jr. (to use a non-roid user) would have hit 1000+ HRs if he played in most decades of the sport. Randy Johnson would have had 10k strikeouts because nobody saw a 92MPH slider back in the 50s or 60s.
>The Bama bonus is re-ACK
>>149813918You're assuming Ruth/other old players wouldn't have access to modern training and coaching if they were magically teleported into the modern game. He clearly had a good swing and knew how to hit, which can translate no matter when you're playing. Would he be as dominant against modern pitchers? No, but I'm sure with an offseason working under modern hitting coaches and watching film of modern pitchers he'd adapt. There are also benefits modern players enjoy that older players didn't. Ruth could be more fearless about crowding the plate today with a batting helmet and elbow pad that didn't exist in his day, as well as pitchers now being less likely to intentionally throw at your head. The bats themselves are also stronger with better sweet spots today.
My point is with baseball it's less about having a physical advantage over your opponent by stacking your roster full of freaks of nature. In football modern OLs/DLs would absolutely rape any team from the 80s or earlier, while OLs/DLs from that time would be grossly undersized by modern standards. Power RBs like Derek Henry and Marshawn Lynch could carry entire defenses on their back if they were sent far enough back in time. In hockey most goalies today would be the biggest and most athletic guy on the team in the 80s or farther back while goalies from back then were usually the smallest, shortest, slowest guy on the team. Basketball had a few freaks in the past who could hang today like Wilt Chamberlain and Bill Russel, but you could put backups from the modern NBA into their era and they would perform at a HoF level.
>>149814155Ruth never faced anything like they have today. Nobody was throwing 101MPH fastballs, 97MPH cutters, 89MPH sweepers, etc., etc., etc. He played in an era where people still had regular jobs and the vast majority of players wouldn't even do well against a minor league team.
>Ruth could be more fearless about crowding the plate todayNo because even with modern helmets and guards, getting hit by a 100MPH ball can kill you or break bones. Plenty of players break their hands from it. You're also not allowed to just stand there, you must make an attempt to get out of the way of the ball, or it's not ruled a HBP.
>The bats themselves are also stronger with better sweet spots todayBabe Ruth used one of, it not the, heaviest bat of all-time. You can't find a bigger bat than that, and great players don't always use the biggest bat. There's also a ton of regulations today on bats from their length, barrel size, weight, etc.
>In football modern OLs/DLs would absolutely rape any team from the 80s or earlier100% correct
>Power RBs like Derek Henry and Marshawn Lynch could carry entire defenses on their back if they were sent far enough back in timeAlso correct and the inverse is true too, which is why Jim Brown is the most overrated back of all-time. I get boomers and older suck him off like no other, but he would have been average in the 70s, bad in the 80s, and not even on a roster in the 90s. Like most old players, 100% a product of his time.
>who could hang today like Wilt Chamberlain and Bill RusselI'm not sure about that, just because the modern game is about space and spreading everyone out. The post-player is mostly obsolete. You need speed and shooting efficiency. Chamberlain played in an era of very low shooting efficiency, which bloats the fuck out of his rebounds and points.
>>149813918Thatโs not the greatest discussion, thatโs the best discussion. I agree the โbestโ discussion is boring though. โ2019 LSU would crush 2001 Miamiโ I meanโฆ sure? It canโt really proven either way so fine.

>>149795881feel like shit bros, just want them back...
>>149814425Greatest team, and the term greatest is not used interchangeably with best. Babe Ruth tops pretty much every greatest baseball player list, but as you point out there are many players today who are better. Another example is ESPN calling 1971 Nebraska the greatest team, but itโs unlikely they would have picked them over 2001 Miami or 2004 USC in a game (for a more absurd example from the same list, 1945 Army was ranked ahead of 2001 Miami). Miami and USC were better teams than Nebraska and Army, but they were not greater teams.
>>149815156How can you say a team is the greatest when they can't beat other teams? That would show they weren't the greatest. What is the criteria for "the greatest team"?
>Babe Ruth tops pretty much every greatest baseball player listBarry Bonds is the GOAT
>>149814155>baseball players didnโt have helmets until the 1940sThe past is such a horrifying place.
>>149815327Face masks in football weren't a thing until the 1950s. I can't imagine how many broken noses there were prior to that.
>>149815283>How can you say a team is the greatest when they can't beat other teams?Because being able to beat every other team ever is the definition of best, not greatest. Again, these terms are not interchangeable.
>That would show they weren't the greatest.*best.
>What is the criteria for "the greatest team"?The accepted definition of greatest seems to be most dominant over peers. This makes sense - we canโt put teams from different eras against each other, but we can compare how they did against their competition. Yet another example is the 1972 Dolphins, who top just about every greatest NFL teams list. No one would seriously pick them in a game against the 2013 Seahawks. Yet they are (somehow) the only team ever to beat all of their opponents, so theyโre the greatest. But not the best.
>Barry Bonds is the GOATBOAT maybe.
>>149815366That doesnโt scare me as much as a 90 mph baseball to the head.
>>149815407>The accepted definition of greatest seems to be most dominant over peersThen you're just bloating up players that played in eras with terrible talent. By that definition, Michael Jordan isn't the GOAT, as someone like Wilt was far more dominate over his peers. Anyone with a brain though understands that Jordan's competition was vastly superior to that of Wilt's. So going by "dominance over peers" eliminates all those past a certain point in history when overall talent went up.
>>149815327>masks weren't mandatory for hockey goalies until the 60sToughness back then vs toughness today is an overlooked factor when we assume pampered zoomer athletes would dominate these proto-boomers who didn't give a fuck about dying during a game
>>149813099Careful, youโll summon the shills.
>>149815661I'm not sure. There was that hockey player in the past decade that got hit by a car as a pedestrian and still played in the game that day. Modern football players would still be out on the field after getting a concussion if they were allowed to. Same thing with using their heads as a weapon. If it was allowed still, the sport would be much more dangerous since everyone is much faster while being bigger and stronger. The players are still crazy, the sports have just evolved to minimize how crazy they can be. Uncage them and shit hits the fan pretty fast.
>>149813782At best you can try to compare them by looking at which teams were the biggest outliers for their era.
>>149813844One of the funniest games I've seen was one where Auburn held on to the ball the entire third quarter. Spurrier had to stand there on the sideline the entire quarter with nothing to do but hold his dick in his hand.
Auburn's offense wasn't fast. It didn't make large gains often. It just kept grinding out what they needed for a first down. Once they scored and SCar was about to get the ball for the first time that half, a well executed on-sides kick kept the ball in Auburn's hands, so they did it again, slowly grinding down the field a couple of yards per play.
>>149814632Wonder when was the last time a girl that looks like that attended Cal. Back in the 90s there were some like her at UCLA but even then the school was quickly becoming mostly Asian, this the saying that UCLA = University of Caucasians Lost among Asians.

South Carolina scored right before halftime and thought they had gained the momentum in the game. They also lead in Time of Possession. The third quarter took care of both.
Re-watching that quarter it's interesting to see that when Auburn has a large gain, it's usually because it was third and long, with them getting just enough for the first down. Hard to script a better way to grind out the clock. They didn't even cross midfield until an unusually long pass more than five minutes into the quarter.

>>149817037is that even possible? i thought a player's remaining eligibility was terminated upon signing with an agent for the draft?
SEC Trojan Horse incoming. SEC Commissioner Sankey has come out strongly in favor of moving to a nine game conference schedule. What he didn't mention is his support for autobids into the CFP being restricted to teams from conferences with nine conference games. Conferences with less than nine games would still be eligible for at-large bids but would not get any autobids, not even for the conference champion.
This is clearly aimed at the ACC and Notre Dame. While the ACC has a scheduling agreement with Notre Dame, those are not conference games. The Big Ten likely is also behind this move, as it puts pressure on ND to fully join a conference by pressuring the ACC to move to nine conference games, which would make the current arrangement with ND difficult. Both the SEC and Big Ten have reasons to want the ACC to be weak. Not just to pick off the few valuable members but also to minimize how many slots ACC teams can access in the CFP.
Doubt this is a move to an all SEC-Big Ten playoff (or league) as keeping around a stable of hapless competition has its advantages. But it does reduce the amount of money that trickles down to the non-P2 conferences.
Also worth noting that G5 conferences usually play eight conference games so they will have an extra slot for a money game. Also some of them aren't going to have enough members to play a nine conference game schedule. This means that simply being the best G5 champion won't guarantee a CFP slot. I'm sure there will be a G5 slot of some kind left in the playoff to avoid any antitrust issues, but it'll probably end up being the last seed most years.

Having the NCAA, which has both the wealthy teams and the poverty schools as members, come up with rules that make everyone happy is nearly impossible. Someone is always going to feel slighted and then go crying to the courts. Ultimately Congress has to do something if the rule by courts is to end.

>>149846719>We hired a washed up gus malzhan I don't think he's washed up. Firing him has had disastrous consequences for Auburn.
>and a literal who from Nebraska to run the defense. He was a solid DC at Nebraska considering what he had to work with. I think it was a good hire, definitely a guy that's going to be able to take advantage of the speed you guy have.
>>149848609>Texas wankWhat causes this? Is it all Arch hype? Because the roster isn't as good as people make out. They're #5 or #6 in the nation in terms of blue chip ratio.
Historically, teams that have to reshuffle their entire OL don't go the distance.
>>149848274he's not really a dual threat, got adjusted to by defenses, then couldn't adjust back. some people are blaming obriens offense which im sure carries some water but i think it's more simply the player isn't that talented
>>149854903The OL is new but old. They arenโt young bucks getting thrown in there. Neto is a senior getting his first start. Then you have Brandon baker who was a 5 star getting his first start. You have Trevor goosby who was thrown to the wolves against Georgia and did admirable barring one sack from mykel williams but letโs face it mykel Williams was doing that to everybody. DJ Campbell is an experience senior and former 5 star. The center I forgot his name but he actually has played a shitload of snaps. The OL will be significantly bigger/faster/stronger than last years. Whether they get confused and fuck up constantly remains to be seen. I think itโs reasonable to think Ohio state is going to fuck them up and probably Georgia too. But by the time playoffs arrive they might be clicking.
Texas has a championship tier defense on paper. The biggest concern there is the secondary but at the same time every single player there was a top 10 recruit at the position and the program has a strong history of developing DBs.
I think you will see the same shit as last year in terms of them having a dominant defense and an unreliable offense. That puts them in a position to win a lot of games and if arch is only a little better than hobbled whom sewers was they look like the team to beat

>Texas has a championship tier defense on paper. This is one I'm definitely not buying. You're basing this entirely on their portal additions working out for 2 consecutive years which the odds aren't good considering how dogshit the portal was this cycle.
>>149815517>Then you're just bloating up players that played in eras with terrible talent.Youโre just excusing teams and players who couldnโt dominate their opponents.
>By that definition, Michael Jordan isn't the GOAT, as someone like Wilt was far more dominate over his peers.Wilt didnโt dominate at all. His ball hogging gave him an eye-popping stat sheet, but his teamโs offenses tended to be mediocre. It wasnโt until he played more team-oriented basketball that brought his stats back to earth that he won a championship, and his second MVP. Jordan was far more dominant.
>Anyone with a brain though understands that Jordan's competition was vastly superior to that of Wilt'sAs stated above, Wilt didnโt even dominate his inferior competition, so obviously MJ was greater.
>So going by "dominance over peers" eliminates all those past a certain point in history when overall talent went up.If that were true, the 1972 Dolphins, Babe Ruth, the 1971 Cornhuskers and probably even Pele would be disregarded today, but they arenโt. So this is wrong.
>>149858962>Wilt didn't dominate at allYou're actually retarded or just a child that refuses to admit when they're wrong. Lets take his and Jordan's best scoring seasons.

The journalist who is predicting Auburn to finish first is sure he's going to be able to say "told you so, never doubt Brother Freeze" at the end of the season. Should be interesting to see what excuse they come up with when Pavia beats Freeze again and costs him his job.
>>149854781Gus hit his ceiling at Auburn and couldn't handle all the responsibilities of being a head coach while also innovating the offense in response to changes in the game. That's part of the reason why most seasons he'd had two or three games where the team looked completely unprepared while against top opponents, they could look like a top five team. He has a good shot at being a quality OC at FSU but never again should be an FBS head coach.
As for Auburn, they simply fucked up the coaching search twice in a row, following the Tennessee blueprint on how you ruin a program for a decade with bad hiring. If Freeze gets fired and they are able to get Rhett Lashlee like is rumored to be their top target, they'll likely be at least back to Gus levels again. If they keep Freeze or have to go through another coaching search run by retards, the Gus days will continue to look good in comparison.
>>149868178People memory of Malzahn's time at Auburn, especially those who aren't Auburn fans, is distorted by him beating Saban more frequently than other coaches. >>149888245SECfags love to bitch and whine about "their" recruits getting poached by out of region schools, yet it's OK when their schools sign players from outside of the South. Alabama's 2026 class has blue chip commitments from MD, IL, CA and NE. Georgia's class has blue chips from OH, MI and MD. A&M's class has blue chips from CA, OH, NJ and UT. They all get blue chips from NC and VA too, which are regional but not in the SEC's footprint.
>tldr "muh instate recruiting" is just EEC copium (this talking point didn't exist when Tua/Hawaii and Bowers/California and Burrow/Ohio were winning titles for SEC teams)
>>149894252Cole brevard is absolutely massive and insanely strong and has played a million snaps and is 24 years old or something. And this is his contract year for the NFL. Itโs not like the Texas coaching staff is buying a lottery ticket. The guy is not going to be bad.
Maraad Watson was coveted by Ohio state and Georgia. Freshman all American. He had one of his best games against Miami and the tape doesnโt lie. Dude is objectively a good athlete and still losing his baby fat and getting stronger.
Some of the other guys are more speculative. Travis Shaw could either be great or confirm my suspicions that he is charmin soft. Regardless I would say the DT room has a floor of โdecentโ. Also I could see Justus Terry playing as a freshman and being alright. Even if he is still a bit small, he can make up for it with twitch

>>149859367Your issue here is that thinking that one player having a high number of points is necessarily good for that team. It's not. It's the opposite in fact. If a team is heavily dependent on one player for their scores, it's probably a bad team. Pic related; there are no champions in this image. Jordan didn't win anything until Phil Jackson taught him to pass, and Wilt didn't win anything until Alex Hannum taught him the same thing.
It's obvious why when you think about it. Wilt scoring 50 points per game seems great, until you realize the league averaged 119 points per game that year. His team's offense only scored a couple of more points than second place, so Wilt hogging the ball wasnโt actually generating tons more offense, it was just making the Warriors dependent on him, and he usually choked in the biggest moments.
The players weren't fooled. Bill Russell was voted MVP in 1962 (this was awarded by the players at the time), just as he was in 1961 and 1963. Russell never cared much about stats, he just wanted to win. You can't win if you're not playing team basketball, and it took Wilt years to realize this. When he won his first championship, he only scored 24 points per game, but he was playing team ball.
Lmao, Memphis tried to buy a ticket to the big 12 and was shown the door

>>149894339>California teams in the Atlantic Coast Conferenceim still not used to that lol
>>149894975It's more about the depth. Texas was 2-3 deep of capable starters across their front 4 last season.
>>149895284>Memphisโ proposal is described as a โno-riskโ concept, according to some in the Big 12, and it also sets a standard, perhaps, of expansion fees to enter a league. The school would: take zero distribution for the final five years of the leagueโs new television deal with ESPN and FOX; add the sponsorships in excess of $150 million over five years; and subject itself to expulsion after 2030-31 if Big 12 deems it is not adding value.I understand the last part (namely no one is going to set precedent for kicking members out) but imagine if they had to expell itself back to the American lol

>>149895284The bigger question is where Memphis got $200 mil
Who is your early favorite to win KWABOTY?
>>149898609FedEx, they're HQ'd in Memphis and have promised big donations if Memphis gets into a P4 conference
>>149898654Mememphis for trying to buy their way into the Big 12 and getting rejected.
>>149899024Should honestly go to pac with that money
>>149899036Why not just wait it out and go ACC when they get raided.
>>149898807Yes, the head of FedEx has been making that promise for decades. It started off with a promise to invest a hundred million if the SEC took them. Guess inflation has bumped it up to two hundred million while shrinkflation bumped the acceptable conference down to the Big 12.
Problem for Memphis is that this behavior shows the donors value the conference more than they value the program. The other G5 schools that make their way up into the Big 12 invested in their programs first, their boosters taking a risk on the program since there was no guarantee of membership. When Memphis boosters require membership first and then donate to the program, it sends a clear signal to conferences that not even Memphis's supporters have much faith in the program.
>>149899306Probably mostly impatience though there might be fear that the ACC collapses completely/ends up merging with The American, which would mean Memphis would end up in the same place whatever they do.
>>149899472If anything, the PAC merger with the MWC falling through and the PAC rising from the ashes to the point where people are actually still interested in the conference shows that the ACC leadership would be absolutely retarded to merge with any lesser conference. The American is/was not on par with the MWC.
>>149899472It's not like Memphis isn't trying and they're just content to be complete garbage athletically. They have respectable football and basketball.
