The majority of the peloton just looks really off. Maybe everyone went too hard in week 1? Probably also a lot of ill guys.

The riders make the race. Considering most teams make 60-80% of all their earnings off the Tour the racing is much much harder than anywhere else since everyone has to show off maximally. This makes the paces insane, makes recovery harder, so by the end of the 3rd week, even if where were more pan flat "sprinter" stages, you'd get the same result.

The only reason I like this sport is because I could watch the highlights on channel 4 in the early 2000s, no way would I have got into it if it was only on subscription TV. I've got discovery plus, but even now I still watch on ITV, seeing Gary Imlach just makes me happy. And now it's all over, another sport lost for inquisitive people to find.
