I don't like getting into driver vs driver arguments with /f1/ because they don't debate eloquently but in reality it was a combination of things that hindered Alonso and helped Hamilton in 2007.
One of the main things that is never talked about is the removal of Michelin as a tyre constructor, prior to 2007 Michelin was all Alonso had run in F1 and the change to Bridgestones caught not only him but a lot of drivers off guard.
Hamilton had an advantage there with the GP3 and GP2 cars running bridgestones that were very similar to the 2007 F1 cars were running.
