Not sure about rodrygo but by all accounts eze wants Arsenal as a priority assuming we actually go in for him. There's more to this story that we're not taking into account such as the fact his agent is a literal spurs fan and also when the release clause expires its in Palace's interest to start a bidding war otherwise they might lose him for less than 60m (even spurs value him in the 50s). I'm not worried desu. If we bid for him there's a 95% chance we get him, and if we don't, well I guess I can't be annoyed at not signing a player we didn't bid for in the first place.

Tottenham remain interested in Eberechi Eze

They have a long-standing interest in the player and he has been among their top No.10 targets this summer

Arsenal expressed interest in Eze earlier in window but it is understood their focus is still on player sales

Berta needs to get the sales done this week and then go for eze next week or else he won't wait any longer

>[Mokbel] Arsenal have an interest in Eze but the club are currently looking at trying to move players on, with the likes of Leandro Trossard, Reiss Nelson and Fabio Vieira set to leave.

Big news. First time Trossard is confirmed as most likely leaving. Club mouthpieces have spent months saying "ArSeNaL nEeD tO sELL To bUy" a new forward. If Leo leaves and we don't buy a new winger while Eze goes Spurs in our "unprecedented summer", Berta goes straight to fraud watch. Has the same weird fetish of leaving the club one player short of success every window. It's sickening.

Liverpool supporters are always sunshine and hyping their own players while Arsenal supporters are doom and gloom and play down the quality of their players.

Why is that? Did the banter era of Wenger with the top 4 trophy ruin us so bad or does it go further back?
Anonymous Bahrain No.150202370 >>150211982
>>150201795
It's not perfect, but I'd much rather preserve the current status quo. It's a mostly fair balance: players generally respect contracts but also have the bargaining chips of leaving on free, tanking their value, dressing room and fan friction etc. if the club gets too stubborn. There are roughly equal cases where players come out on top (Trent, Gyรถkeres, etc.) and where clubs do (MGW, Caicedo at Brighton, etc.)

Martyn Ziegler recently reported on a legal case which could establish an option for players to literally walk away from a contract at any point for free. Effectively abolishing transfer fees, turning all players into mercenaries and clubs into 'Murican-style franchises. Obviously that's an extreme case, but loyalty is a massive part of football. Players should be bound to their clubs in a way that they can't just randomly decide to rip up mid-contract like Isak is trying to do. Players owe clubs for their growth and development as much as clubs owe players.

Outside of FA cups its mostly doom and gloom around the club. It sucked selling our best players for peanuts every season. Its sucked scraping for top 4 and drawing Barcelona every year in the knockout stages while Messi was blessed by UEFA. It sucked seeing Chelsea and City buy success. Overall i am glass half full kind of person but i can see how some people can lose hope and only see the negative.

I think it started back with Eduardo and cretinous English commentators saying that Arsenal players/fans being upset over his broken leg meant the team weren't tough enough. And that this started Arsenal fans obsessing over whether they had exactly the "right" kind of player/signing.

But maybe it tail-end Wenger, actually. Because I don't remember fans being critical of Ozil and saying he was a luxury player, or bemoaning Alexis because he could be a selfish player. Everyone was fully hyped for those guys. But Wenger's final signings included a number of duds: Mustafi, Mavropanos, Lucas Pรฉrez, Kolasinac, Holding, Asano, a washed Mkhitaryan. I think those plus a desperate desire to get back to the summit and win the league has really caused the fanbase to be overly critical. AFTV exasperated that problem, fuelling negativity and knee-jerk reactions.

And Liverpool, even when they were waiting 30 years for the league, still had those UCLs to keep them feeling satisfied, and played attractive football even when they came up short (Slippy G), unlike recent Arsenal who have finished second the last two years playing rather unexciting football, which fuels a whole other debate.

>an option for players to literally walk away from a contract at any point for free
Literally WTF?! This is some high-calibre anti-labour law bullshit. Would it apply to any B2B contracts, because if so, it could end the EU (lmao).
Anyway:
>Players should be bound to their clubs in a way that they can't just randomly decide to rip up mid-contract
Agreed, but there's a whole lot of things they can do to piss people off (and still get paid).
The absolute top for me is just plain sitting the contract out, like, doing fuck all and getting all the millions of moneys each fricking week like it's nothing*.
On the other hand, the clubs can banish players (the infamous "Coconut Club" as known here) with seemingly no reason whatsoever still.
Good thing we're _mostly_ reasonable, innit.

*)Good luck trying to prove a players is faking a long-term injury, reporting pain or discomfort. Or being out of the gaffer's selection simply because of a run of poor form, whilst still showing up for training on the regular.
Or even going full Gallas (allegedly)...

Or that we will never return to the CL as long as Xhaka is in the club. We can definitely win the league with Rice playing the way he is at LCM. After the 23/24 season I started looking at the most injured teams when focusing on the 11 most played players. My idea was that losing Timber for the whole season does not affect the team as much as having people miss every other game with lesser injuries forcing the manager to change his starting eleven and tactics every game.

So the season 23/24 Arsenals most played 11 players missed a total of 34 games. That was the lowest in the whole Premier league.

The following season Arsenals most played 11 players missed 62 games. Meanwhile the winners Liverpool had the same as Arsenals previous season on 34.

All the teams that overachieve has a low number (Nottingham Forests most played 11 players missed a total of 23 games last season) and teams that underachieve has high numbers, or many forced rotations in the squad (last season Man City: 84, Spurs: 87, Man Utd: 60).

There's so much money swilling around in the Premier League that 25m really isn't that much for a promising youth player anymore. Sunderland just spent 130m. 10 years ago teams like Burnley and Leicester were spending 10m-20m after getting promoted. I view 25m now the way I saw 6m then. It's punt money for a PL-to-PL transfer.

I think our biggest problem is failing to sell at the right time and trapping ourselves with stupid contracts. Reiss Nelson is on 100k/w - that puts a cap on how much teams can give us as a transfer fee even if he could do a decent job for a midtable PL side. If we sold him after his first Hoffenheim loan he would've made us a ton of money, for example.

We just gave Nwaneri a new contract when he's sandwiched between talented players in that position from all sides in the form of Saka, Madueke, Odegaard and Dowman. Sell him for 50m this summer and we could've got a ready-made replacement who could full his squad role and play on the left if needed in the form of Eze. City just sold the player who started ahead of him at the U21 Euros - other big clubs are a lot more ruthless when cashing in on their youth prospects.

He was promised by Sporting's president that he could leave the following summer for a certain fee, he then literally wins them the league and his dream move materializes in front of him. Sporting's president then, at the last moment goes back on his promise and bumps up the price, potentially destroying Gyokeres' dream move.

it was alright, but typical bongoloid home too cramped. that's why I don't like the UK you don't have lebensraum.

But shepherds bush was close to most things.
what was more disparaging was that a few minutes away you'd have the posh of the posh neighborhood.

I lived longer in Somerset, much nicer.

when I lived in Somerset, I had two local friends. one was a liverpool supporter (not a scouser, his dad was a liverpool supporter when they were good in the 80s) and the other didn't care about sport in general.

at the local leisure centre, I paid ยฃ2 at the time to play football and I saw a lot of kits, one in particular was a birmingham larsson one which I thought was funny.

You just need the good kind of cramped, like in HK where everything is cramped but on the plus side everything is really fucking nearby. Back home, in London, I'd think little of spending an hour going from one side of the city to another to do something. In HK, if something is more than 15/20 minutes away then I'm all, "Yeah, no thanks."

(And it helps that public transport is clean, affordable, efficient and I can't understand what the locals are jabbering about so their chatter is white noise to me.)

>Simply, the goal was chalked off because a Palace player was standing too close to the Chelsea wall. Referee Darren England made an announcement to the crowd to explain the decision.
>He said: "After review, away number six is less than one metre away from the wall as the shot is taken. Therefore, it's an indirect free-kick and a disallowed goal." The International Football Association Board's Law 13 states that when three or more defending team players form a wall, all attacking players must remain at least one metre from the wall until the ball is in play.
