I know all the money is gonna be on Scheffler, for good reason, but Russell Henley has been godly at East Lake for his entire career. And he might be the best putter in the world on Bermuda greens. Today's 61 isn't an outlier, pretty sure the last competitive round he played here was like a 62 or 63

Scheffler's zone rn is similar to Tiger in 2000-2001. Not nearly as dominant, but as impressively boring. Doesn't beat himself, and gives himself a pin high birdie put on almost every hole. The most exciting Tiger years happened when he wasn't as dominant and needed clutch shots to seal his wins. But when Tiger was dominating it was bad tv. Bunch of GIRs and 15-20 footers.

Here’s how to fix golf: every tournament should have a foursome of regular golfers. Specifically high handicappers. They are the default last group and are used to measure pace of play. If these fucks are waiting around, somebody up front is getting stroked. These regular Joes are to be a control group. The average golfer can watch this group if there’s a blow out or it’s Thursday or something to experience the course how they the viewer would observe it.

That's something I've always kinda wanted to see. All these events take place at tryhard clubs with laughable fees, so those places should just hold a tournament the week before to get a threesome in the event including the winning member and 2 of its club pros or some shit. Hell maybe they DO already do something similar but since golf coverage is so piss poor I've just never seen the guys or heard of it. The pace of play aspect would just add a new wrinkle

If a pro can’t play a hole faster than some hacker taking five to hit the green, he deserves penalty strokes and everybody can agree on this.

You’ve got 15 handicappers out there playing the tips trying to hit 230 yard par 3s with 5 irons because they saw Scottie do it. Showing them regular schmucks playing from the correct tees benefits everybody

This group is a great opportunity to provide on air on course rules questions the regular asshole gets into and can show the regular guy how to use the rules properly to their advantage.

Since they’re the last group, they should be well behind everybody else which gives an opportunity to extend the broadcast into primetime when the comedy takes over. If you time it right, Sunday around 1-4 is the front runners and the tension then it’s followed by an hour of comedy or inspiration.

Another way I’d enforce pace of play is the addition of “the runner” to the field. Two runners will be distributed in the field at the beginning and absolute middle. They get the honor of playing by themselves and the honor goes to the two fastest players from the week before. These two are allowed to play through. This is the critical point. If cantlay starts taking too long in the fairway and allows an opening with the runner on his tail and the runner jumps him, cantlay and his partner take a stroke. The average time between to the runners at the end of the day will be compared to the field. If you’re in the bottom 5% of the field, you’re assessed a stroke. If you’re strokes two weeks in a row, you’re docked FedEx points every week until you’re out of the 5%

Another way to enforce pace of play is the green timer. Once your foot hits the green, you’re on a two minute shot clock that starts after your opponents ball stops moving.

One final way to enforce pace of play, each player will be armed with .50 BMG sniper rifles as an allowed 15th club. If they are forced to wait longer than 1 minute to hit a shot on 3 separate shots in a single round, they are allowed to shoot the slow player wherever they see fit.
