Yeah, paying customers means more to F1 than WEC anyway, FIA would pay for the whole thing out of pocket if they had to, WEC is one of the championships that just is and will happen regardless due to kind of being a flagship for motorsport as a whole because F1 kind of stands apart separately really.

The first 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1923 started under hail and heavy rain, with cars with no roof, fragile headlights that would easily break with any small rock hitting them (also poorly isolated electrics from the water), no wipers, bicycle tires, tin can bodywork, on a barely paved track with lots of loose rocks, with very few lights, no barriers of any kind, no runoff areas, with drivers wearing leather aviator caps and goggles as the only kind of protection.

Yet, they soldiered on, going slowly in a line at night following any car with functioning headlights if necessary. How the fuck have we gone so soft as a society?

You will get both pretty bad press and nowadays usually it includes a lot of legal shittery, so they became risk averse across FIA since the bianchi incident. I like the original F1 layout and I like the new fast chicane that replaced the carousel but I would prefer a fast chicane and the banked turn.

In fact I believe the banked turn only left because Bernie Ecclestone threw a massive fit that F1 looked slower running it than Indycar.
Firstly, he’d actually pretty based for realizing this was bad for F1 prestige st a time when Indy had some hope of competing with F1. Secondly Bernie is gone and the bank is kino and the gentleman drivers will appreciate the opportunity to get photos and be on TV driving down it and over the bricks.

Well they apparently worked to make the car aero work better in yaw/turning than other teams because the FIA/ACO only test in a linear tunnel so they don’t check for that, they probably stall out a little in a straight line so there aero numbers don’t look as good as they really are to the regulators

That sounds a bit off. Everything we know about the 499p indicates it’s better in a straight line, which would indicate a lower drag/lower downforce setup which correlates to it being slower in corners.

But being quicker in a straight line is a bigger advantage in endurance racing, where you will do more overtaking. That’s going to be easier in a straight, where as higher drag cars will get held up more in corners which takes away their corner speed advantage

Really I’ll be fascinated to see if any new teams can compete with them in the next couple of seasons

ofc all engines can be tuned down but that doesnt mean every engine will remain "happy". Vibration issues can appear , driveability can suffer, etc. It really depends on the engine if its feasible or not.

Yea, and it’s not very competitive, at all, really. Not much point dragging around a big V12 when a TT V6 will comfortably and reliably make max power and not compromise your packaging or weight distribution as much given its smaller size

Yeah, a Race V16 is probably pushing things a little with that length of crank but the Brand Rep would be immense if they could make it work, not that Bugatti would ever need to.

Gotta love the but we could not that we should of it though, Nismo GTR LM has a cult fan base for that line of reasoning despite not working out.

Yeah, IMSA needs to simplify classes and caution procedures, but I still think they had a higher percentage of green flag running than we did today.
>that one Daytona 24 where they ended it early due to rain
Holy shit yeah, that was retarded as hell. IDK, it was just so disappointing to go so long without prototype racing to be served COTA slop and even then, it was bad for COTA slop.
We don't have to live like this. Sports cars used to run in the piss pouring rain up until the 2010s.
