Gold Coast used more than double the first round picks for their first 10 years and they never made finals. Not as easy as you think retard, especially following an extended period at the bottom. This is why Melbourne had so much trouble climbing out from 07-18, along with North Melbourne in more recent time.

When Fagan came in, Brisbane didn't have their full suite of academy and father son picks. They were in no man's land with an extremely average squad and regularly had to deal with their better players wanting out. Once he arrived, suddenly players were no longer rushing for the exit, and they started getting better every year. He brought Hodge in who helped teach the players how to be winners before rocketing to top 4 in 2019 and have been finals mainstays ever since. That alone is more impressive than anything Chris Scott has done.

Scott inherited the Geelong dynasty team largely assembled from 1999-2002 who already had an established winning culture, then got a free ticket to Dangerfield and got to bring in Cameron thanks to paying extra outside the salary cap in farmland.
