So even in the glorious land of punditry you pretty much have an even split between "Pecco is a world champion and he dominated at Motegi so it must be the bike, nobody's confidence swings like that" and "the bike is competitive so it must be Pecco, machines aren't that unpredictable ". But I think what stands out to me is that even relative to the guys on the hand me down satellite bikes that are ostensibly so consistent and easy, he is the one retard in the entire field doing shit like using the old shorter travel forks and like the oldest aero parts that still fit on the bike, and once you have it set in your mind there's only one way to go fast you're pretty much done at that level.

Really if you think about it in those terms, even though Gresini got its first GP wins of the season, in general the Ducatis have gone backwards in competitiveness since the summer break because you know, Aprilia and Honda and KTM are getting new development while all those GP24s (and the kwabnaiacycle) are not, but it's only Pecco that is especially confused that sitting still is going backwards and chasing his own tail into the abyss over finishing 6th instead of 3rd until it's 20th instead of 5th. The reason driving talent is so, so much more important than engineering tallen is because it is so much, much more rare and hard won.

I’ve always liked it like this, since Moto3, when I used the same fork springs in the wet and the dry. The same in Moto2 and now in MotoGP the springs I use in the wet and dry are very similar.

Both the long travel forks (this is from 2023 so I guess it's an even longer long travel fork for 2025) and the lower holeshot device make the bike slower and harder to bottom out so there's basically all of Bagnaia's complaints about front end feel this season. Those things are in principle almost free lap time with a normal riding style which is why Ducati really, really didn't want to stop using them.

So if you were for the sake of simplicity to say everyone else that didn't get hurt or swap teams or whatever gained half a second on Bagnaia in the last year, it would move him from 1st to 1st at Motegi, 1st to 1st at Sepang, 3rd to 10th in Indonesia, and 3rd to 14th in Australia.
