I get that the main appeal of IPFS over bittorrent is the global DHT in which will only require you to have the file's hash to download said file, but I genuinely don't see it taking over bittorrent at all.

Just use Professor Messer's stuff and Exam Compass. CompTIA is EZ. You just need to know how to take tests, go onto reddit and ask what simulations other people had and study those.

Make your own notes/flash cards. I use Anki for everything I need to memorize. I passed the 1001+1002 this way. Go onto Udemy and look up Jason Dion's practice tests and use those. They're always on sell for like $13. If you can't afford that, then you have bigger problems than a CompTIA test, brother.

I posted this in the IT Certification thread we had a while ago, but it died shortly after. I pulled Mike Meyers A+ and Net+ video series off of Linkedin when they had them posted for free. I never posted them again, but they're good resources, so the torrent shouldn't die.

IPFS stuff can be opened in a web browser either via ipfs:// or an https:// gateway. Filecoin uses IPFS, which is like the incentive layer. You can make actually static copies of stuff and index them in a text file or something. That helps with organization of local files. Tens of thousands of files uncompressed in a torrent can cause the client to be laggy when dealing with that torrent, not the case with IPFS. Also, IPFS can work well with dynamic content. It is helpful for small "trivial" files where torrents are mostly for "significant" stuff/collections. Other reasons. Websites pinata.cloud and web3.storage can help seed CIDs.

I do not really believe this. All data in a torrent is split into pieces and each piece has a SHA1 hash. If the piece does not match the hash then it is invalid data. It is simple as that for a computer/program to detect it. I think some of this one torrent I was seeding got corrupted on my end and it just kept saying "IO error" for a while.

>>1206147
>Other reasons
IPFS is mainly CLI-based, I think. Torrenting is mainly GUI-based. I guess people are less likely to get hit with "stop torrenting this" if you download and share copyrighted stuff via IPFS. An annoying thing with torrents is organization. For example, I don't think you can move around files in folders in torrents as it would make it invalid. If you have a folder via IPFS already pinned, you can move files around and it will not invalidate the ability to seed it. IPNS (part of ipfs) can be used for mutable/dynamic data; non-InterPlanetary-Naming-System IPFS is immutable/static data only.

Because they aren't available anywhere else, and even if they are, its hard to find it. Mega can take these vids down any day. Its about time the copyright holders report it and shut it down.

Yeah they're by the same person. And yup, Unacademy bought him out. His lectures are absolute shite now, but they were just amazing back when he did his own stuff at Rudra (the ones these vids are from).

More than 1000 dance music tracks were deleted when this one Internet Archive item was removed ( https://archive.org/details/mega-dance-hits-collection-2-1990-2001 ). Luckily I downloaded it a while ago, so here's an IPFS copy of all of it (13 GB):
ipfs://QmWRdfw7YxaXY38wnFNvYaR9J1oNtJEeo6jNzsn827mbX2

Some of the tracks in that folder:
>1152. The Square Sound - Runaway Horses (Euro Club Mix).mp3

Libgen allows max. 1GB uploads for each non-fiction book file. It allows a max of 300MB for each fictional book file. Therefore, tons of stuff fall outside of this range, so Libgen does not have and currently cannot have a lot of stuff. For example, there is like 3 volumes of the My Little Pony Manga, and each fictional file is like 500 MB; that manga can be found in an onionsite (also in IPFS, currently offline, I guess).

CF gateways seem to be gone, as of month(s) ago. To answer "what is blocked?", I guess every IPFS CID in LibGen. This is likely from Libgen and it is blocked by Pinata:
>https://gateway.pinata.cloud/ipfs/bafykbzacecsx3sombcj7dpfranmhugn6wp66hci7ixvh33jybw7upn2ainxmy?filename=Daren+S.+Starnes,Josh+Tabor,+Daniel+S.+Yates,+David+S.+Moore+-+The+practice+of+statistics+for+ap-Ann+Heath+(2015).pdf
>This content has been blocked. Please contact team@pinata.cloud for more information - ERR_ID:00023
If you want to avoid gateways blocking things, you could: use a different gateway, get IPLD blocks, re-chunk is as bit-identical-file-different-CID. On the 3rd idea - example (FUSE-mounted IPFS):
>$ ipfs add --cid-version=1 /ipfs/bafykbzacecsx3sombcj7dpfranmhugn6wp66hci7ixvh33jybw7upn2ainxmy
> = something
(I'd write a better post but can't right now.)

- title is possibly: Microsoft Windows User's Guide
- page 583 contains this text: "appendix lists key combinations you can"
- identifier: Dell part number 27538 ("P/N 27538")
- number of pages: 650 (the last page is p.650)
- language: English
- contents: has appendix, has index
- format: paperback
- location: "Printed in the U.S.A."
- year published and ISBN: unknown
- notes: the back cover is half blue and half white, two horizontal rectangles; it's like the flag of Ukraine, but in A4 paper size and you replace the yellow with white and add a blue Dell logo at the bottom left

Ugh, this the pages of this book are glossy, so you get an annoying reflection if you were to take a photo of it with a handheld camera. The binding is tight (so the words are close to the inside margin/spine when the book is open) = can't really scan it in a flat scanner bed. I think Internet Archive digitizes books by photographing them like this: using a camera that has great detail in a low-light environment + using that glass/plastic thing which is the shape of an obtuse v to put on each turn-of-page to spread the pages. Possible thing one could do: photograph a book in a bright area like the height of the daylight; that way, the light isn't coming from a "point source".

>>1331287
Photographing those 22 pages was a "breeze". Doing 50 or 100 pages in a sitting sounds like a slog.

Microsoft Windows User's Guide... was photographed with the "grab pressure weighted page spread" method. I was kinda doing some testing on 1995 Arizona/New Mexico TourBook (which has historic details and stuff). I saw that merely doing the "weighted page spread" method is probably worse as there is no grabbing pressure spreading the pages via weights.

Oh, and it's easier to do this: each photo contains the page in a rectangle in such a way that you don't have to open GIMP to edit the image file so that it looks better. Downside: output is not super fantastic. With this method, you don't have to open any GUI image manipulation program to modify images.

Now that the Internet Archive is down, people can see why a peer-to-peer website for public domain media has merits over a website that hosts all its content on a centralized server. First of all you don't own your own information, and more importantly, as recent events indicate, when the centralized server goes down the people lose access to their own freely available information. This site is about the people's data ownership and our stance on BitTorrent and open source software shall not change!

Sorry bro. I've been using my laptop for finals and haven't been able to seed much, but I should be able to seed pretty much constantly from now on. Very few other seeders as well I think. Not sure exactly how to speed up my own seeding, I don't have a bandwidth cap set and most all the trackers I use are online.

I have and have photocopied this:
- ComputorEdge Magazine
- publication date: 4 November 1996
- volume: 2
- issue: 44
- language: English
- number of pages: 31 non-glossy pages
- place of publication: Denver

I didn't see that on the Internet. Info and other issues of that magazine:
https://wiki.froth.zone/wiki/ComputorEdge_Magazine
https://archive.org/details/CompleteComputorEdge.comArchive-warc
https://archive.org/details/ComputorEdge7zArchive

Guess I will share a PDF of it...

Done! Very slightly dark around the edges, so next time turn all the lights on instead of only having one lightbulb on:
https://files.catbox.moe/9pfmud.pdf

Read it to learn about technology in the 1990s. Commands used:
>$ ls -1 | sort -n | xargs -d "\n" sh -c 'for args do exiftool -gps:all= $args -o $(echo $args | sed "s/jpeg/jpg/g"); done' _ # remove geotags
>$ sudo apt install pdftk-java # install pdftk
>$ ls -1 | xargs -d "\n" sh -c 'for args do convert -rotate 90 $args $args.r.jpg; done' _ # rotate all images 90deg clockwise in current folder
>$ ls -1 | grep "\.r\.jpg" | xargs -d "\n" sh -c 'for args do convert $args $args.pdf; done' _ # makes a PDF version of all images in the folder
>$ pdftk *.pdf cat output file.pdf # create PDF from multiple PDF files; before doing this: make sure that ~every method of sorting shows the files as 1, 2, 3 and not 1, 10, 11!
pdftk was being weird so I had to name them like this -- aa.pdf, ab.pdf, ..., az.pdf, ba.pdf, bb.pdf, ..., bf.pdf -- for the sorting to work. Todo: other stuff. Picrel is probably gonna get rotated by 4chan system. (captcha: PPPSST)

Picrel webpage for that is linked in this index:
https://ipfs.desmos.network/ipfs/bafybeier6zgi3i3an2vit7wt7nrz5hg5cu2kajsiuv2kaammglnvslugqi/2024/12/14

The styled webpage links to a folder which contains the individual image files and the PDF named "computoredge_1996-11-04.pdf". In that digitized thing you can see that a Seagate 1.0GB EIDE Hard Drive cost $179 in 1996.

Is there a torrent with a good curated spread of books? I'm thinking the Western canon and notable popular fiction, reference materials, and a good spread of non-fiction works? I've got a budget of about 10-20TB. Ideally it'd be suitable as a library for home schooling.

How can I make a torrent file to seed some special folders I have? I have never make a torrent before. I need some tutorial or a youtube video. Most importantly, what do I do with the file after I have created a new torrent?
How can I upload my .torrent file to a special famous site? Which sites do you recommend?

>seed some special folders I have?
Too lazy to explain it in full and this is not my picture, but for qbittorrent you will need to click on the torrent on the top, and then go to Content and check or uncheck certain folders or files.
