My recipe was black - drybrush on leadbelcher - paint on nightlords blue into the correct areas - then apply lightning effects - curse god for your foolish weakness in choosing a legion that requires freehand lightning - paint out the details like skulls - and more skulls - then apply scuffed and chipped paint with GSW Chrome.

so with rapiers out the way what time frame do we reckon for other releases? If 2.0 is anything to go by it was AoD by June, but we're already looking at July or even August for Saturnine. Then the kratos was August, so maybe Fellblades by late Aug/Sep. The assault box was 18 months after AoD, but if theres no tanks then the breachers/assault mk II might get the winter to spring slots when Rhinos and sicarans dropped. Then the new Cata would be looking like an early summer 2026 release. Then again it could be way later with the skitarii stuff, tanks and the rumoured war in the webway supplement which could push all the marine releases to being finished by Spring 2027.

in half the official NL art, they're just ultramarines blue armor before the decorations, they only look like a darker blue because it's night time which changes regular blue into dark blue.

If NL were a midnight blue during the day, then at night they'd just look pitch black and that's a Raven Guard thing. Night Lords aren't painted for stealth, they want their victims to see and hear them and poo their pants in fear. Hence the bright white lightning bolts which don't help with stealth.

I want to kit bash the dominion zephon an a battle damaged IW inductii sergeant that's barely survived both IW artillery barrages and loyalist firefights. yes because marines in rhinos charging 7.5 inches is a massive threat! Or how about getting within 3 inches of the enemy so they don't fire overwatch, truly gamechanging! But guys, the minimum charge distance went up, that means so much more for assault than maximum distances going down! Not to mention Jump infantry might randomly set up more than 3 inches even though it is based on unit stats not equipment! And don't forget you can pursue fleeing units, truly massive!

for me it entirely depends on how lazy their secondary paint/hobbying is or isnt

If someone goes hard on the custom NL helmets or shoulders or bones/skinnings or goes hard on the lightning, then the royal blue NL actually go harder than the dark smudgy NL.

But if someone is a new painter and gonna just use plastic starter set marines and not buy resin helmets and shoulders or paint lightning - then they absolutely have to go midnight blue, non-negotiable.

We won't know for sure until we see the liber army traits, but Nightlords and Alpha legion are the two riskiest chaos factions to ever play because any edition of warhammer there was a 50/50 chance they made NL "the faction with useless leadership modifiers to the enemy" and Alpha Legion "the faction bad at combat but shuffle one or two units in deployment and allowed to buy some basic cultists"

Maybe, maybe not. They're not extra-ordinarily brave, nor extra-ordinary at battle strategy. And being a little bit spoopy might be useful against baseline unbuffed units but there's always a risk that the game lets every squad with a chaplain suddenly become very brave and then NL would be up shit creek. And Fear() has no effect beyond 12", so it's far less useful in a shooting edition than in one where marines are shooting 60 bolter shots at 24" and pinning the nightlords before you get in fear range. We'll have to see, they Could be good but it's risky - whereas someone like SoH / Iron Hands / Ultramarines are just bound to get something meaty instead of a useless fear thing.

What is so bad about AL? In 2.0 technically they have 0 zero combat skills because their trait boils down to "back away". And yet it makes them kings of positioning. It makes the enemy miss. It makes the enemy pursue and overextend. The Alpha player gets to deploy, do alternative deploy, forces the opponent to commit then lies about it and redeploys.
It's rather good for a force that "sucks at actual combat"

You should be able to charge out of a (scattering) deepstrike or outflank, though

I wouldn’t jump into iron hands until we see their rules, they’re among the legions most at risk of being accidentally fucked over without being thought of
The loss of ID is a soft nerf to their legion trait and as IWND is entirely gone, one has to assume their vehicle buffs are just going to be slightly stronger auto-repair
Which could be good or bad depending on if any armor values change and how prevalent heavy(S) and armorbane are on anti-tank guns

Immortals are really only good in bitter iron, gorgons termies are probably going to stay weak as long as the WS chart stays how it is, and we have no reason to feel safe that cyber-familiars, grav upgrade, or even morlocks will stick around in their current handy incarnation, if at all
Plus the change to force org demolishes dread spam lists barring RoW, I’m not at all saying iron hands will be bad (they have the potential to be really really good) but as one of the relative backgrounds characters with fewer shiny special models and characters to sell they’re always at risk of being underwhelming

alphas in 2.0 were given a grab-bag of stuff that AL didn't have in other games workshop stuff.

Ability to take other legion's god-killer special unique squads - They certainly have nothing like that in any edition of 40k, could be gone in HH3.

Specialist squads with amazing broken stats (BS5) and the ability to Precision Strike with multimeltas like they're primarchs? Could very well be gone in HH3 and them be BS4 and no precision strike.

They had the ability to just place a bunch of overpowered dreadnoughts anywhere they wanted in HH2. Now dreadnoughts die in 1 shot and can't charge after deepstrike. If power moves to landraider sized tanks instead of dreadnoughts, they have enormous footprints and are easier to screen out from half the board and sending them on a flanking mission makes them easier to hit their rear armor. HH3 could always limit alpha legion to just "redeploy 2 units in your deployment zone" like they've had for other GW games.

We haven't seen any stats for Sniper Rifles which were a useful thing for AL who often focused on removing buffs so they could win fights despite having a shit army trait. Nemesis Bolters being S5 with Rending 5+ is not at all a given. Most GW editions have had sniper rifles as weak guns, HH2.0 is an exception. Would not be surprising if suddenly they're S4 AP5 Breaching6+ instead of sniper rifles being amazing in HH2.

It wouldn't take much of a change at all for AL to go from good to one of the weakest factions. They were among the worst chaos factions in 40k 3/4/5/6/7/8/9/10 so them actually being cool in HH2 is something of an anomaly.

Night Lords had an entire RoW called "Terror Assault" entirely focused on starting each battle at night time. Something being there from day 1 and being flavorful is not a guarantee GW hasn't axed it from the game in HH3.0.

I don't hope they remove AL ability to grab all other legion's rare units, but it's the kind of thing someone at GW who doesn't play the game would remove. "What, you mean he's using that thing in TWO armies without buying it twice?! That's hurting our profits!"

They axed a lot of daemon units that were always allowed as allies for khorne/slaanesh/tzeentch/nurgle in 40k recently, only allowing a tiny piddling to be used cross faction. Some suit is allergic to fun at GW.

We can talk about 3.0 until the cows come home, but we won't know how it all works in practice until people actually got a few games under their belt.
Before 2.0 launched people were sure shooting would be dead and the edition all about melee, because of things like plasma and blasts being nerfed in addition to charging out of reserves. But once people started playing it became clear how overbearing shooting reactions are, and that lascannon HSS are the kings of 2.0

The more I read the more I start to think the great crusade deserves game recognition along with the heresy. That whole pre- 40k era should be the focus. Certain legions don't really get to shine without it (Death guard, Iron hands,) and there seem to be a lot of material for cool xenos to fight that aren't included in 40k like Uluméathic League, Vassalian, Donarathi, Cimmeriac, Thexians, Draxians, Noisome Reek, Xenarch, Saharduin, Dracolith, and Szaeyr. "Okay, dress up the terminators as Space Wolves or Dark Angels or World Eaters and go in loud and hard, take out anything that witnessed the original alphas, then vanish, leaving some shredded wolf skins with bolter holes behind"
Spreads much more tension and confusion that way.
And half the loyalists factions like SW/RG/BA have a dark secret of untrustworthy factors so they really cannot prove they're trustworthy to show it must've been the alphas at play. The alphas might be seen as a convenient excuse whenever wulfen or flesh tearers decided to eat some dark angels.

You miss the point. The feet thing is irrelevant because the new art doesn't need to be 100% identical, just keep the main features. Old art also didn't match exaclty the old minis, they fudged many details (like the knee pads of mk3). And the feet is one of the less relevant parts of a mini compared to the helmet or torso.

In 1.0 they were the defensive alternative to tacticals. Boarding shields forced disordered charges so they were much better at taking a big charge. Still a bit expensive, but their role was clear.

In 2.0 they lost the defense nade buff, so shields on their own are kinda shitty since you can mitigate them by... not wasting low ap weapons on them. Meanwhile a big tac blob is now usually better in melee (defensively) due to low cost and rules.

Also curious how everybody seems to have forgotten multi-meltas exist, those have double the range of meltaguns. And in the new edition units can move and still shoot heavy weapon, so those could be an option if you don't want a meltagun squad in a Rhino.
For anti-infantry some heavy bolters, volkite culverins or plasma cannons would probably work.

any reason why theyd change the FoC to this 7th ed mess? It didn't work then and it won't work now. It's been the only major slip up in this new ed and I think it's a serious fuck up.

And they're claiming it's more flexible than the FoC? Get real. People left 7h ed to HH1.0 because of detachments. Its kinda ironic/deaf

Make powergaming easier. That or pushing centurion model sales.

Also there is 100% guaranteed to be future aux detatchments with fucking bonuses/perks/new prime bonuses to make people buy more (insert new model here).

The idea of marines in environmentally sealed power/terminator armour being freaked out by a punny flamer is pretty funny.

Is the new powergamer strat gonna be to have various special/combi weapons/shotguns etc to just try spam like 4 status checks every turn?

Seams in the arm and hip joints aren't metal and flamethrowers will absolutely eat through them. Also metal simply gets hot, being cooked inside a metal box isn't exactly a calming sensation.

Considering that they can pose the models after sculpting them, I wonder if they're fully rigged and if the animations use the exact same models as the plastic kits?

I wouldn't. The new one looks like shit and it's a worse experience in building too because it's not even compatible with the absolute wealth of FW upgrades and straight up comes with less things. With that in mind why the fuck would I want to do that?

Youre actually right, a halberd would have been a good idea. I have a second torso so maybe ill end up doing that at some point, have a bunch of them from other stuff.

Probably wouldnt give him LC though, not unless its the more restrained ones like they have on the black templar primaris or the NL kill team.
