I've thought of a concept that has varying names, but the one I like the most is "scruff company."
Derives from the word "scruffy."
I like to imagine that it is Imperial guard slang that is finding growing official use as such guard regiments become more common in the Dark Imperium.

It is to describe a guard regiment typically found in the Imperium Nihilus that has devolved in equipment uniformity due to supply lines being scarce and/or cut but never short of calls for combat.

Pic related is a Star Wars Imperial Remnant stormtrooper concept art piece to try and help give a visual explanation. To hopefully help one visualize an Imperial Guard scruff company.

Funnily enough GW is kind of doing that with the previous Cadians upgrade sprue showing that not all guardsmen get helmets and with the current Cadians with their lasrifles looking like they are from different forgeworlds given their different patterns.

>I’ve been thinking along similar lines
I love bumping into those that share similar interests in concepts I find appealing!
My inspiration was just irregular militaries in general.
But you're right the Chinese troops in the 40s were real exemplars of such a concept. Did their whole aspect of looking irregular due to captured gear and imported stuff from many different nations ever get an official military term? I did a quick search and managed to not find anything.
But some terms did pop up like "maritime militia" and "irregular forces."

Chaos Tau as a breakaway group like the Farsight Enclaves. They got caught in the Maledictum and got hard exposed to warp energies. Now they’re set up on some worlds close to the rift and raid into Tau and Imperial space.

I would import some Destiny factions. For example, I will import the faction where the whole society is composed of clones created from spliced DNA patterns with Bolter shotguns and they have giant ships who eat planets for resources. But to make it different, I will replace its leader with another Destiny character who is a giant Dark Age of Technology AI core who produces an army of robots. A combination of these two have never been done by any 40k faction before.

Being a psychic race means the warp affects you as much as you affect it. The eldar fall was not directly their fault, but their emotional states were influenced by the corrupted realms of souls ( later to be the warp) this caused them to act in hedonism which went to the warp which went back out again until slaanesh happened. The starting point not being any races hubris, but the horrors of the war in heaven

What about more IRL failed projects? Bolters are gyrojets. We have flechette guns, attempts to fit two bullets in the same cartridge so it fires both at the same time and hopefully shoots two in the same spot it didn't and had worse accuracy.

Yes, so much so that khorne is in some passages told to bear the facial features of an ork instead of the more traditional hound head, and there's an easter egg in the lord of skull's crest where the "bunny ears" of one option are two orkish profiles.

I’ve seen this idea and that exact picture used as an example of the concept.
Maybe this will be the “traitor legion descended loyalist chapter” of guard homebrew but I couldn’t care less. I love the concept and I think “scruff company” would fit well in 40k canon.

Really I think the best kind of homebrew is the kind that leaves concepts for other homebrewers to utilize for their own homebrew.

They aren't. The Grotsnik book states Gork and Mork are a collective hallucination caused by the Orks which has implanted itself across their race due the nature of their psychic nature. They 'exist' because the Orks have deluded thmselves into thinking they do. If the Orks were wiped out, Gork and Mork would cease to exist.

I don’t think they had a specific term for it, lack of uniformity and standardization was a thing going at least as far back as the Warlord Era, beyond basics like using Mauser 1886 rifles or locally-produced copies. The KMT (specifically Chiang Kai-shek’s units, rather than just the warlords that decided to join during and after the Northern Expedition) was an outlier in being able to attempt standardization, at least for their most elite (German trained and equipped) units, before the Japanese invasion.

>I’ve seen this idea and that exact picture used as an example of the concept.
I mean it wouldn't be hard to see why. Guardsmen in such a situation is a logical (in an otherwise illogical setting) state that 40k guard regiments could find themselves in. Especially in the Dark Imperium where things are said to be really bad. I'm not sure how the Imperium Sanctus' situation is described but I haven't found much description of how bad things are in the Nihilus. Maybe head(s) of narrative are trying to keep things vague so that they can be as awful as one's imagination would make it.

>Maybe this will be the “traitor legion descended loyalist chapter” of guard homebrew but I couldn’t care less.
Neither could I, but I think there is more leeway in repeated concepts of the guard given that they aren't as popular as space marines so they get a pass. But I can definitely see things like not having a homeworld due to the Tanith and Cadia giving guard enthusiasts inspiration for them being a recurring theme.
It sure is for what I have planned.

>I don’t think they had a specific term for it, lack of uniformity and standardization was a thing going at least as far back as the Warlord Era,
Maybe "irregular military" is the umbrella term that the Chinese armies fit under at the time.
But I'm just spitballing a guess as to why there is no term for an army or armies that find themselves in such a state.

Gork and Mork aren't real Gods, they're fascimiles implanted onto the Orks' gestalt as a way to weaponize them. Gork and Mork only continue to exist so long as the Orks believe they do, and cease to exist if the Ork gestalt is too damaged to remember them.
The only real Gods in 40k are the Chaos Gods and the Emperor.

Slaanesh always existed. The Eldar 'gods' are minor aspects of the Chaos Gods that the Old Ones used as a method to control the Eldar. Most came from Slaanesh and were subsequently re-absorbed once Slaanesh awoke. The 'survivors' are Isha (and aspect of Nurgle), Khaine (an aspect of Khorne), and Cegorach (an aspect of Tzeentch). The Old ones tried to utilize the 'good' within the Chaos Gods for the Eldar.

No, it's not. The Chaos Gods will continue to exist in perpetuity, as will the Emperor. The Chaos Gods can be influenced to certain degrees by the style of worship provided to them, and can be interpreted in many ways.
Gork and Mork are rigid and structured in both their 'worship' and their 'influence' because they're not real Gods, they're fixed concepts made to goad the Orks into conflicts.

Vets were allowed to ignore equipment and uniform restriction.
Also there is Savlar chem-dogs are guard regiment who are criminals pressed into service and are motivated for fighting by allowing them to keep what they looted, they are badly equipped and just steal stuff from corpses or other regiments and are known to do improvised field repairs that sometimes cause Mechanicus to sperg out and press for death penalty.

“Irregular” is a nebulous term that also encompasses stuff like the unit’s tactical usage and/or recruiting methods in addition to their equipment, but I’d say the bulk of Chinese units (except the foreign-trained ones) would count as irregular. The KMT’s more “regular” forces eventually diverged from whatever their original standard kit was supposed to be due to circumstances, but I’d consider that enough of a gray area to count them as irregular in the equipment aspect.

I don't think it was delusion. It was just me forgetting that SM2 brought in fresh blood that may have offset marine fatigue. Not that I believe marine fatigue isn't there. I'm sure the percentage of 40k fans with marine fatigue has gone down significantly now that there is new blood in the warhammer side of this miniature hobby thanks to space marine 2.

it's the other way around:
the chaos gods were formed in fantasy in the exact moment the old ones disappeared.
in 40k they appeared millions of years after the disappearance of the old ones.

They are mostly deployed on Armageddon against orks, so it's mostly looted Imperial equipment or relooted from orks. I recomend 8th edition guard codex, it had some stuff about them. Ah I also forgot to mention while they are poorly equipped they still get chem-inhaler as basic gear, so they fight on drugs as standard.
There was also regiment that used captured ork wargear like shootas and choopas and implemented parts of ork culture including brawls as method of resolving conflicts. Armageddon Ork Hunters.

Stompas are machiens powered by conventional means. Are Titans to be considered Daemons of the Emperor? Is a Manta a Daemon of the Greater Good? No, they aren't.
>the psychic collective IS a warp realm, you utter faggot, souls are in the warp, the effect in real space is the waaagh field not the great green, which also houses the souls of the dead, like the warp does, because it is in the warp
Ork souls fall into the Warp the same as any other race and are treated just the same. Orks believing that the 'Great Green' exists are the same as Imperials believing the Emperor has a table in the Warp where all of his faithful go after death (which may occur when he ascends, bit does not exist yet).
And RT has been only dubiously canon for years, anything within it that isn't backed up by more modern sources can be considered non-canon.

Only little dislike I have of this model is the helmet. And it's that small ridge there, but it is very easily fixed with a bit of careful shaving with a knife and sanding.
Otherwise it is a very nice model. I like they give you an option for the relic you want to use on the standard.
The standard top is also great and can easily be turned into a great looking Iron Halo if wanted.
Over all a great 9/10 model.

Maybe.
To me the Black Templar model feels like a model shoved out the door to coincide with a codex release. To also make armies "locked" into the current edition as there will be rules for that model in its current edition it was released during so that players won't play previous edition because there are no rules for models like the new black templar models.
Guard kind of got the same treatment with Lord Solar Leontus and the heavier heavy weapons like the multibarreled Nebelwerfer model.

Given that it was created by non-Tau, it's fine. Just the same shit Chaos has always done. GW has spent way too long focusing on the Big 4 Chaos Gods and forgetting that there are supposed to be thousands of other demi-gods and minor gods in the Warp trying to rise to power and join them. Having a new one be created that represents the Greater Good concept is pretty par for the course.

A pity model is just what people call it when a Codex releases with a single new model and nothing else.

Yeah. Armageddon Steel legion is motorised infantry regiment, Ork Hunters are jungle fighters regiments specialised in fighting orks on armageddon jungles.
Both Ork Hunters and Savlar Chem-Dogs alongside DKoK(who themselves were steel legion conversion) and Elysians got their special rules in 3rd ed chapter approved. Ork Hunters used modified Catachan rules with bonus against orks, their own version of WAAAGH special rule and ork weapons like choopa and slugga. They were represented as catachan models with ork weapons.
Savlar had simlary colourfull rules, like no her character could join them because they are scum of the earth, sergant could "purchase" officer wargear, they could not do sweeping advances(pursuing broken enemy and cutting them down) because they were too busy looting dead, chem-inhalers so they do tests on full leadership and can't be forced to retreat because of failed morale and could buy some random archeotech they looted from underhive as equipment.

You didn't play 6th/7th.
The amount of shit in 6th/7th that was utterly broken was ridiculous, 'normal' playstyles had nearly no chance because even the slightest bit of optimization ruined the game. Models with 600-800 points of value were costed at 300, a number of the rules flat out didn't work, one of the phases was inherently broken and didn't gel with the rest of the game, and there were multiple UNIT TYPES that could not be taken if you wanted a balanced game.

I played every edition since 2nd. Even went back and tried some Rogue Trader a few years ago. Yeah, 6th and 7th were bad. I hated them, I bitched endlessly about them at the time, but when you made gentleman's agreements to play without the excessive bullshit, it was still salvageable. No matter how bad they were, 10th is worse. It's not even worth playing period. ALL customization stripped out, points as power level, psychic powers just being bland gun profiles, characters joining units completely fucked, tourney-fag catering missions, plus all the other bad parts of 8th and 9th. It's fucking garbage.

A lot easier than that
>no superheavies
>no flyers
>no Strength D
>no free points (covers summoning, broken formation benefits)
Everything else was manageable. Invisibility was annoying but not as broken as people say. You could deny the power, hit them with auto-hitting weapons, etc.

Also the most important rule was just playing with people who wanted to take fluffy lists in the first place, so instead of needing a massive proscribed list of broken shit because of exploitative assholes who would always look for the next OP thing you didn't ban... you just really didn't have that problem at all.

Print your army list and hand a copy to your opponent so he sees what wargear is on every unit, and make it very clear while setting up which unit is which. 95% of people will be totally fine with this, as most people understand that the rules change and you can't rip the arms off every model every time there's a rules adjustment. It's just part of the hobby.

The 5% of people who still play by strict wysiwyg usually won't hold their opponents to the same standard for the above reason.

To build a black Black Templars army youstart with the Space Marine Codex. Then you apply the Black Templar rules on top of that. You can't combine any of the Space Marine chapter rules, they are mutually exclusive.

You can then pick
>vanilla space marines (you get inmproved oath of moment)
>deathwatch
>blood angels
>space wolves
>black templars
>raven guard
>iron fist
>iron hands
>ultramarines
>dark angels
>white scars

If you do, you can't include any units in your army from any of the others. If you are army is one of the ones with special rules like Space Wolves, Black Templars etc you can then select one of the detachments included in their Index/Codex.

The rumored Space Marine Codex 2 supplement thats supposed to release this fall will include new detachments that let you play as the first founding chapters that don't have any special rules of their own.

So a Black Templars player would select Adeptus Astartes as their Faction Keyword in army creation, then choose a Black Templars detachment (currently there are two: Righteous Crusaders or Wrathful Procession). They would have access, like any Space Marine army, to take Black Templars units, but doing so would lock them out of any other special space marine units. The BT detachments will provide the rules and buffs that make the BT units actually useful.

exo skeletons are pointless and don't increase strenght in way noticable from 40k game perspective. Sob who wear power armour are still S3 and marines are S4 no matter if they are in power armour or naked.
Giving guardsmen exoskeletons would be just waste of money, because it would be same cannon fodder but now with expensive shit in addition to flak armor.

They're a very skill intensive army to pilot and if you are doing it right it feels like you are playing a very non-interactive game that makes some opponents not have fun. But if you mis-step your whole house of cards collapses super quick because your are made of paper so it can be a very engaging and rewarding playstyle. Reapers Wager has excellent strats so almost every unit is viable in that detachment in big blocks to take advantage of the Lethal/Sustained strat with pain token rerolls.

I've done it when a brush gets really really fucked up, but generally it works better when it's a brush with very stiff bristles. Had good luck chopping down dollar store kids brushes like pic related in the past, but they don't hold up for very long. The nice thing is the hairs are so coarse that when they shed them they're easier to see. If you want some cheap stippling brushes out of the pack look up stamping/stenciling brushes. They're identical to the artis opus style drybrushes for 1/5 the price

What do you guys think about the more metagamey charge stuff? I'm talking things like using a closer charge to place your models in a way they can then pile in and fight another unit and stuff like that.
I play mostly with friends and we've been learning as we go, I found some interesting stuff and I think this is cool and allows you to be creative with positioning but I also care more about my friends having fun than doing these kind of movements. So for those of you who play this game a lot casually are these things stuff you see in your casual games or is it only tournament stuff?

Generally what colors should one use when giving something weathering or chipping colors?

And learn to read profile pictures that tell if a person’s personality and beliefs and values.
Avoid anime, furry, flag, cartoon selfies, picrew and Greco Roman bust profile pictures if you want to have a higher chance of hanging out with adjusted people.

When I was younger I could tell some personality traits from the way they typed in the old messenger and what meme bullshit they put on their quotes.
So your comment about the profile images is not that odd. Pattern recognition is not necessarily a terminally online conduct.
That said discords are just off putting for my old ass, I grew with the old chat rooms so nothing was really "recorded". It just bizarre to see some twat digs years of chats for a comment of mine when I said a thing then just to get some kind of gotcha moment in toy soldier game.

Autism is rampant.
I met some friends in Roblox during my high school years and later added them to discord. A good number came out as queer and said number kept on validating bad stereotypes. I would point this out with the best of intentions but it was like they were addicted to getting mad and twisting whatever I said into a reason to have a fight when all I wanted was to help them.
It kept repeating as nauseum and eventually I just realized that it was all just emotional abuse. I saw what they became because one guy would block and do “snide remarks” behind the block button and nobody said a word but when I wanted to help and advise someone they acted like I was always starting shit.

Basically I had to walk away still kind of hurts because I spent a long time with these people even through my worst years.

Moral of the story. Don’t hang out with depressed queers. They’ll twist anything you say into a reason to start a fight and lie to themselves that you’re the aggressor.
I know this because the other two friend groups I hung out in were chill it was the one with queers that was where all the problems came from.

Warhammer 40,000 nerds at the lgs ain’t got shit on the autism I dealt with.

I grew up using skype, right at the tail end of AIM in the late 2000s. Me and my friends all switched to discord as soon as it came out. We have unironically an archival record of all the memes and times we shared over the last 10 years. A couple of times Ive sped through it. Tens of thousands of messages, images and jokes. Dead links, fond memories, people who are dead now. It makes me nostalgic and teary eyed a bit. Times that have come, and gone. And will never come again. That's life, it it's kind of nice that it's there. But that's a private chat.

I can't imagine someone going through your posts in a public discord to be like AHA YOU PAINT BLACK TEMPLARS THAT MEANS-

Or whatever scenario you experienced.

NGL your "help" could just be annoying criticism like "being a fag wont make you happy" which isn't useful to anyone. As a fag myself, I recently kicked a long term friend from my close friend group because his views differed to greatly from my own. In the end, the culture war comes for us all. I'm not saying that's what you did, and there is absolutely an annoying and insufferable type of depressed permanently online queer, but 'if' you were pushing your politics that's not help that's just being annoying. But as someone in my 30s now, I think the real answer is just that a lot of the people who are online are there for a reason. Including here. We are broken, retarded people. And if you change, mature or grow a tiny bit, you might find behavior that you used to stomach intolerable. Bad treatment that you used to accept you realize has no place in your life. But at the end of the day, you should put a lot of thought into severing those relationships because community is an extremely important part of any human's life.

I guess all that faggy rambling was basically to say sometimes it's right to sever those relationships if they become bad or toxic... but you should be cautious about losing relationships too. Because life means nothing if it's spent truly alone and as you get older true friends are harder and harder to find.

Not really, even then armour marks aren't like one single homogenous build that's mass-cloned, it's like a broad grouping of very similar armours but every single piece of power armour is hand-crafted bespoke and can vary slightly based on the quirks and personal touches of the particular techmarine or chapter/legion.

I mean it's true Ultramarines really don't get enough recognition for the Battle for Macragge. Lorelets don't realize the narrator was pretty explicit in saying that if that battle ended differently and the Tyranids won, they were going to unstoppably steamroll the entire galaxy next because of the way they snowball exponentially and the strategic position they were in there in Ultramar. That battle was legitimately the most all-or-nothing fight that ever happened in 40k other than the Emperor dueling Horus and Ultras held it down by the skin of their teeth.

Shout out to that one mad lad who shows up every week to own with the Chaos Cult detachment and hold up CSM beyond the sandbagging of every other detachment besides Renegade Raiders.

True, the Imperial Navy are even more unsung heroes of the setting.

Stuff like this exists in rare and limited quantities around the Imperium but it's never going to be cost-effective enough to see use across the whole galaxy as a standardized piece of equipment coming from the Departmento Munitorum. Lasguns and flak uniforms are one size fits all and easily produced and replaced, personal form-fitting exoskeletons aren't. You do see stuff like this appear in like, special forces, Inquisitorial units etc. but the vast bulk of the Guard wouldn't see it. Typically if an elite force has the money to pay for something like this, they can just spend a bit more for full power armour instead, like Sisters. The power reactor is probably the most expensive part of the device.

Kek. Such a bad codex cover art, although the problem isn't the neophyte with the shitty haircut (they have ALWAYS had those) it's the terrible armoured dude in the center.

They do, they're just bulky and not particularly practical. Orlocks in Necromunda can take them.

Yeah, most likely rolled into their respective cult legions. Dunno where that leaves Be'lakor, but my guess is he'll be part of CSM or Chaos Knights
