Stippling or sponging some contrasting tones really helps big panels. Since youve got a dark midtone youd want to use your highlight colour and if youd like you can go in after and fill in some bigger chips with a medium brown. No need to go as heavy as I did if you don't want to, you can use the same technique for really tiny chips if you work more paint off your sponge
