Warhammer 40k is by design a static setting where not much changes. Characters can have story arcs and grow but they won't make a real impact. Like why should I care if the inquisition killed a greater demon if chaos has 200 more in reserve. Me and my group are starting up a crusade game soon. I'm thinking of the action taking place on a former Eldar maiden world thats been under the control of the Imperium for centuries. With all the factions (Biel-Tan, Dark Eldar, Orks, Imp Guard and Night Lords) converging to war for the planet and the prizes on it. I used Citadel Small Base brush which was nice initially but it went to shit after 50 models. Got a Citadel Small Layer brush that splits easily. Same with Army Painter's insane detail brush, it was shit from the get go and can't keep its tip at all. Army Painter's regiment brush was alright for applying base-coats but that's about it, I just use super dogshit synthetic brushes for washes and metallics.

Acolyte Kit is weird, the leader can be equipped with autopistol/handflamer per rules but the kit doesn't have one. I cut one arm holding a hand flamer and one regular hand to field him as such.
I also ran out of plastic cement, building them came to a halt until I grab a new bottle tomorrow. I had a Mr. Cement from Mr. Hobby despite everyone using Tamiya but it worked for me just fine.

The tl;dr is that some few hundreds or thousands of years after the heresy the orks suddenly show up in huge numbers and rush the galaxy with orkish deathstars, one of which keeps terra under checkmate. the orks of this waaagh were bigger than ever (boys the sizes of nobs, nobs the size of warbosses, etc.) bit also particularly intelligent, leading to various comedic/poetic shenanigans like an ork diplomat sent to request the surrender of terra being the calm and composed individual compared to the council of terra, or humans desperately trying to fend off the orks by using the greater numbers of their unwashed and barely trained masses against the orks' elite troops.
When imperials eventually board one of the deathstars they find the orks were farming humans like cattle, deprived of teeth, hair and nails, pumped full of growth hormones and almost mindless, conditioned to open their mouth in response to a light shining on their face, in order to be fed, that's it, really.

the solution is you just make them skimmers with the same rules as skimmers and just bite the bullet on the abstraction dissonance that they should be going much faster, because you want to field cool models, but having cool models that fly over a battle once to do a strafing run or drop some bombs and are then 100km away the next minute just doesnt make for very good tabletop gameplay.
