A guy showed up posts cutesy images and Rapid links, which was dubious because you might be wasting your time against a cheat troll. Sure enough that’s what he was. He got his name by claiming that he once sat down at a random tournament without knowing how to play chess and smoked everyone for an immediate 1900 rating, and that the reason he couldn’t play blitz but was strong in Rapid was because as long as he “thought it through,” despite not being a good player, he could solve the game. He got roundly hounded for this as you can imagine, and switched up from the cutesy images and fun challenges to meanspirited trolling (started calling Karla, after he doxxed her, “Chinderella” and doxxed SeriousChest’s father, etc.) as well as samefagging to derail every thread. This killed /chess/ and almost everyone left, except Canadian 1900 and a few marks like zoombam who thought that when the jannies finally got involved and laid down the hammer, random anons were being persecuted instead of all one guy. This small collective, under Canadian 1900’s guide, migrated to /vg/ where he has been the main poster ever since. And any time /tg/chess/, which he psychotically monitors closely, starts to be active again, he can’t help but meltdown and post here and on /vg/ and everywhere accusing /tg/ of being the actual samefag thread. That’s the full story. Let’s not tell it again.

Maybe because it's unusual compared to typical e4 e5 openings that all have fairly similar themes. The absolute mainline looks like novice players fooling around - preventing recapture by putting the queen in front of the king and then the other side does the same to relieve it and then Ba6 for another pin on the c4 pawn. Black seems to also be on the brink of getting counterplay.
