Looking at the points value of the recent Combat Patrols, they’re surprisingly all in the same ball park points wise. Like play a regular game and add a 15-20 point enhancement to the characters and they’re around 500 exactly. Lascannons and the Eldar equivalents (bright and dark lances) is pretty much it yeah. Orks have Kustom Mega Kannons which is weird because they're high strength plasma, and technically Zzap guns which are their lascannon equivalent but they're random strength. GW increased the toughness gamut but forgot to make things that damaged vehicles last edition actually damage them this edition. Like fucking Krak rockets, why the fuck can't they wound a vehicle?

You realize that the army rules don't need to be balanced against each other right? Like one army can have weak army rules but good datasheets? Or strong detachment rules with weaker army rule?

The reason space marines have a boring army rules is the flavor is supposed to come from the detachment rules. For example the Deathwatch index detachment rule and strats is where the flavor is. Or blood angels being good at charging.

Also they are doing balance changes every 3 months, so if it is powercreep it can be tweaked in 3 months or less (more dakka hotfix). Unlike 9th edition.

I think the gallant is just a good profile for the cheapest big knight. It's pretty easy to deliver a melee knight in 10th terrain setups considering they can phase through walls now. 40 points for Canis Rex is good too but I just think getting 40 points back for the same defensive profile is okay to give up on the extra damage and CP generation Canis Brings you. Most people don't have Gallants though and Canis Rex is just a no brainer for allied knight. The melee profile can blend pretty much anything it wants.

It just feels daft to me, I far perfer a system like Wargame: Red Dragon, where you just generate requisition points for holding sectors on the map, that lets you call in more units from off map.
I was never really a fan of games where you constantly had to flip back to base from the actual combat part of the game to go and micro manage your Harvesters or whatever, like Red Alert 2 or Starcraft.
Hmm, Homeworld was an acceptable system to me, where you had to have wee harvesting parties out and away from your mothership anything that forces you attention to be on actually taking and holding map sectors and away from what I feel like is the pointless make-work of putting down buildings is always more preferable to me.

That being said, I'd still prefer to play DoW1 over something like Total Warhammer.

There was a reason, pretty obvious one at that. GW was launching WH+, their own "streaming service" and didn't have any content to speak of to put there. Fan works like Astartes and Exodite being popular and available for free would have disincentivized people from subscribing.

They get a rule that fires 4 shots each.
The Anvil Siege Force lets them wound at +1 to the dice roll.

They get a 2pt strategem that is a a basic BS fired overwatch, and get to overwatch with the same unit. That's 120 shots from 160 pts in a single game turn.

The str5 bolters the heavy intercessors get can wound all T9 and under models on a 4+ standing still.

Marine bodies actually aren't as bad as people think. They just need to be in the right army. Deathwatch Terminators are insanely good, for example. And why are they good? Because DW has 5 good stratagems that works on infantry. So infantry spam is supported. Almost every other detachment is only like 1 good strat for infantry even in stuff like charge buffs blood angels. Also space marine vehicles tend to be really good, so its hard to justify going really wide with semi elite bodies when you could have a few less units and your whole army in transports.

there's codex compliant and there's divergent chapters
codex compliant cannot take units from dark angels, blood angels, black templars, deathwatch, or space wolves
there are some codex compliant chapters with special named characters, you can only take named characters from one chapter, no mixing and matching
divergent chapters can mostly take from the basic codex units, they cannot take special compliant characters at all, and some divergent chapters have restrictions like deathwatch cannot take scouts, black templars cannot take psykers, and space wolves cannot take devastator squads or apothecaries
there's nothing stopping you from painting your models however you want, you can go make an entire blood angels army and paint them blue and add ultras on them and as long as you follow your army organization rule and your models are easy to tell apart no one gives a flying fuck

The divergent detachments are just that: detachments. They are separate from the rule that says all the different special Marines are mutually exclusive.

You know, for all its claims to be more streamlined, more accessible and easier to pick up and play, there sure is a lot of edge case rules and [KEYWORDS] that dramatically affect how something seemingly simple is no longer simple. Like how special rules are no longer a universal thing that just in the rulebook, and was pretty consistent across all armies, everything is based off these damn keywords and trying to remember all of them is a complete mindfuck. Then you've got stratagems and CP potentially further modifying those on top of it all, and your opponent can turn what you thought wasn't too much of a problem just looking at their startcard into a complete murder bastard for a turn. Army optimization also seems to be a complete clusterfuck these days, as you've got to trawl through all your units, detachment abilities, enhancements, and keyword synergies to find shit that really works together, while at the same time trying to remember all the shit your opponents army can also do. Shooting also seems rather powerful compared to melee now, but maybe its just because I've not figured out the correct synergies to use first.
And whats with the endless layers of re-rolls, modifiers, and aura stacking to function competitively, instead of just good old a unit shot, it hit or it missed, move on?
I'm the anon form about a week ago trying to get my head around 10th Edition after a long hiatus from 40K since 5th Edition and I honestly can't see the reason for a lot of the changes. Honestly its like they've more optimized the game towards "gotcha" gaming, where you pull some surprise bullshit out of a hat for a turn and win because of it. Positioning? Tactics? How crucial is the scout 6 rule on the 20 man chainswords/power fists primaris crusader squad? Is it better to have a castellan in that squad, or have that 6' free move for an easier charge?
