If you don't let me kill you all with Walking Ballista I'm dropping a nuke
If I make non-legendary copies of Lightning and trigger her effect with the copies, can I still cast the spells if the copy dies and the original stays alive? Or is each exiled card attached to only that copy?

I'm feeling spiteful. What's the worst salt I can mine from a game in Gruul?
>>95906908Cards that name themselves really just say "this card". So you can "cast those spells for as long as you control this card". So if the card leaves, you don't get to cast that spell

I'm looking for any cards in FIN that might work with my Delina Wild Mage deck. The deck doesn't use much equipment so there's not much to use in mono-red or colorless.
Seifer Almasy might be useful for letting my commander get an attack off, then copies of him can trigger their abilities.

I've got 4 extra turn spells but a lot of draw so it's not unusual to get an extra turn and then draw into another one and chain them together like that, which isn't fun for anyone and is probably outside of the realm of what my deck should be doing in my regular pod's power level.
Should I cut extra turns for fogs so I can stay in bracket three? I figure a fog is basically like a riskier extra turn spell, keeping me alive for another round. We're in combat meta, not combo meta. Though I guess aristocrats and stuff will fuck me up just as bad.

I keep overpowering my pod and I'm trying to make a bracket 2 deck. I'm mostly going for thematics based around characters and art, but I keep ending up slightly too optimized. I think I just don't really have a good grasp of what qualifies for bracket 2 and what pushes it over the edge into bracket 3. My list technically qualifies for bracket 2 by all the qualifications and bracket calculators I can find, but I'm not sure what I need to change to make it less antagonistic to my friends.

>>95908962My issue is that at the old place we already capped out the game room on most EDH nights. Yet now we seem to have less space despite larger rooms (and two of them.) I think it is silly to do this when your previous customers were card game players. You probably shouldn't set the play room as 70% war games space and 30% for anything else.
People just have to play EDH standing up at the war gaming tables.
>>95908982Man I remember FF13 and it's sequels being super popular back when I was in college but since then it seems the consensus is that they're pretty reviled games. I never played any of the FF13 games but it reminds me of BioShock Infinite which seemed to go through a similar hype trajectory.
In any case I do legitimately like the main card they gave Lightning, I could see her being a fun commander.
what is a "battle cruiser" deck?
>>95909189>but since then it seems the consensus is that they're pretty reviled gamesnahhh I remember everyone *hating* Square for making the sequels and engaging in waifu-making (whatever the term is) with Lightning and spending so much time/resources on her and her story and her games that everyone hated the two sequels to FF13 and wanted 14 instead. And then 14 came out and it was an MMO which made everyone hate Square/the sequels that much more
>>95909195High average cmc, plays lots of big spells and big creatures to overwhelm opponents in the lategame. Typically their only early game plays are ramp and draw. Almost always creature-based.
Named after battlecruisers in StarCraft, which were big and expensive and very powerful, but still relatively useless in a meta dominated by fast early tempo plays.
>>95909217So what do they do if you come in with some serious aggro?
>>95908158I've never played a game of magic in my life. I just come on here to give deck building advice.
>>95909304Convince the aggro guys you're not a threat and they should be going after each other instead.
Should i use 3 mana mana rocks instead of the standard 2 in Y'shtola? The 3 mana ones have some utility from triggering the hp drain but slow the deck down quite a bit.
Is this a battlecruiser deck?
https://archidekt.com/decks/13816339/oloro_take_2
>>95909337>Avg Mana Value: 3.18no
>>95909304Outside of throwing a Swords to Plowshares or a Beast Within at the biggest thing you're pointing their way, or ramping more quickly than you can burst them down, battlecruiser decks have no answers to early pressure. This is at least partially responsible for why lower brackets suggest that games shouldn't end too quickly.
If you've ever played online you might see rooms with gentleman's rules like "no attacking before turn 3", "no wins before turn 7", which is basically how battlecruiser players will attract other battlecruiser players to their tables. Battlecruiser as a playstyle really only works in multiplayer if no one recognizes you ramping three turns straight makes you the biggest threat even on an empty board, or only if everyone agrees to play slowly.
The way I describe it probably makes it sound pretty weak and pathetic, needing a whole list of extra rules just to avoid hurt feelings, but battlecruiser decks are a TON of fun to play once they get off the ground, and battlecruiser pods are a fucking blast since it's all heat all the time once all four decks are raring to go. A lot of people say battlecruiser magic is what EDH was made for, and I'm inclined to agree. EDH is the only format where battlecruiser can function, and it's unfortunate that a lot of players have optimized the fun out of the game for themselves just to improve their win rates.
>>95909333There's a pretty meme build with her where you include a *ton* of 3cmc rocks and setup a draw engine, so your turns go mana rock -> draw -> mana rock -> draw -> mana rock -> draw over and over and over. Only include a bunch of them if you wanna commit to the bit
>>95909333Triple 3s on a post asking about 3-mana rocks sounds like destiny, but I wouldn't recommend it unless the whole deck is built around dumping entire hands of 3-mana rocks onto the field. A turn two 2-mana rock ramps you into your commander on turn three, which is a big tempo play that gets you cards and a solid lead on your opponents turn four.
Blue has some good utility 3-mana rocks though, and a lot of them are available on a budget. If budget is a concern at all, I'd suggest considering it. Not every deck needs to be hyperoptimized.

I asked grok to make me a mono-blue commander deck and I put it together exactly as described

it's 105 cards with one repeat
>>95909643Did 40k surge foil ever collapse?

>>95909643lol. perhaps lmao
>>95909643>will FF surge foils collapse next year?i think not
if my suspicions of what wotc's moves will be in the next few years are correct there's no better time to "gamble", hoard chase cards, and attend edh events
>>95909601>Yeah but that shit's like 5 bucksactually winning that desperation scenario you envision is well worth $5
>>95909671What are your suspicions? You've already provided what you think the market moves are going to be so there's no reason to not lay out the rationale.
>>95909643If you only need to commander then just proxy it, I'll do that with Y'shtola, since none of the precon was worth it except for her.
>>95909683>What are your suspicions?wotc has now put its gloves on to tackle the fact that proxies have become a legitimate alternative in enjoying the game
>how to make people keep buying real cards theni think wotc knows the age of 60 card competitive is truly over; much has been said about the failure of mtg being an esports, but i think it goes farther than that
i believe the brackets system being released this year is not a coincidence
this might sound ridiculous to you guys but i believe that brackets are the new formats - think vintage, standard, modern - and that events will now be bracket 2/3 edh (with random deck checks) using chase boosters as prizes to ensure people get out there buying, i've seen the game stores around my area doing this already
i believe the massive success of FF is exactly what wotc was looking for, nintendo allowing their non-pokemon IP to enter magic for example is every wotc exec's wet dream
this is why i believe magic will not get cheaper anytime soon, as instead of making cards cheaper to compete with proxies ala gabe newell/steam wotc is heavily leaning into magic as a luxury product with all the IP you could ever want
just like women will never be caught dead using fake chanel bags, nerdy guys won't dare come out in the wild with proxies - imagine going outside with that in a luxury hobby - the peer pressure and fear of shame will ensure you keep buying if you ever plan on leaving your small island of proxying friends
expect more UBs using the IPs that tickle the fancy of every nerd in the world in some kind of Weiss Schwarz future, with events offering the perfect kind of prize (surge foil, all the bells and whistles, hidden in boosters) to make people continue buying, and since holding the rights for reprints is never a sure thing that will only cause prices of chase cards to go higher and higher
feel free to ask again if i'm not being clear
Only problem with proxies is that the guys making proxy decks just print out the most expensive shit and throw the pod balance out of proportion since us others have just brought cards within our means.
>>95909779I don't. That's only a problem with trannies.
>>95909779i'm that will repeatedly say that proxy games eventually devolve into cedh games
even your friends are having difficulty tempering their desires; imagine random strangers
it's easy to say "oh people should have perfect manabases" until one guy says serra's sanctumshould be ok to proxy, then comes gaea's cradle, so on and so forth, escalating further and further
believe it or not "playing what you want" is a competitive mindset
"playing with what you have" is the purest casual mindset
>>95909763>this might sound ridiculous to you guys but i believe that brackets are the new formatsThis will immediately implode because then people will play actually strong decks and drive away a large portion of players. It's well-established WotC can't maintain a banlist for shit especially when Gavin is out there making an ass of himself saying Mana Drain is "just a one-time burst of mana" but Force of Will is unacceptably strong because it can counter a commander in exchange for going -2 over the table to slow down the one card in someone's deck that can endlessly come back.
>>95909802yes i agree gavin is stupid
yes i agree mana drain should be a GC
yes people will use strong decks
guess what wotc will do? print commanders of IPs that are hella strong, just like what they're doing right now with vivi and co.
you WILL buy the UB sloppa if you want to be part of the "community", which happens to be a luxury hobby using cardboard
>>95909779>>95909795This doesn't happen outside of extreme tryhards that would be running bullshit either way. People aren't usually proxying all the bullshit cards and if they are, they're playing in bracket 4 or cedh where you kind of have to. Nobody's proxying a tabernacle in bracket 3.
cards should just be sorted into brackets, none of this GC shit, mana drain is banned in B<=3 also make B4 and B5 have an actual difference FACT
>>95909820>Nobody's proxying a tabernacle in bracket 3lol i see proxied vampiric tutors all the time in ostensibly bracket 2 casual games
it's only fair to expect that people have difficulty restraining themselves with cardboard power, just like with everything else
pubstomping is very real and it would be foolish to assume that doesn't happen "out in the wild", even in "playtesting" sessions
>>95909779unless your pod is majority proxy players, which do exist
>>95909838I struggle to believe this is real and if it is, I'm sorry you have to put up with people like that. I just don't want to dump $20 on a homeward path in my local theft meta.
>>95909942>I just don't want to dump $20 on a homeward path in my local theft meta.if it helps you feel better a very good black core proxy is around ~$5 (at least in my area), if you're ok buying 4 black cores you should be fine buying 1 real card
>>95909763On one hand, I think some of what youโre saying makes sense. Seeing what has happened with MtG with Bloomburrow, Tarkir Dragonstorm and FF along with other trends was what made me finally buy some Hasbro stock for my portfolio. On the other hand, I truly believe FF was a one-time thing with UB because of how broad it is as a series. The main two categories people fit into is theyโre either die-hard fans of all games or really, really like one or two but donโt care about the rest (Iโm the latter with 7 and 10 being the only ones I care about). Other companies like Nintendo are very finicky when it comes to collaboration with their products as they want to be the one reaping the massive profits (and there must be massive profits involved), so where UB goes from here is a bit of an unknown. Iโm not sure Iโd go all the way down the rabbit hole you have with the Brackets system but I 100% agree WotC have some plan for them that will not benefit the customers in the long-run.
>>95909763>wotc has now put its gloves on to tackle the fact that proxies have become a legitimate alternative in enjoying the gamerofl fucking delirious, REDDITORS proxy and they make up a teensy percentage of the playerbase.
>>95909779With a few people in my playgroup who proxy, this is exactly what they do. Theyโll only ever proxy the most blatantly powerful stuff and shove them in decks expecting to win games. The only reason I tolerate it is because most of them are too retarded to know how to play their decks and/or the game properly and just keep losing.
>>95908616I traded a The List Unwinding Clock to a guy for a Commander 2011 Aura Shards. I'm not 100% sure where I'm gonna use it but I have way too many Unwinding Clocks.
>>95909779I don't generally see this
What are some ways other than Dance of Many to exile Yorion alongside the stuff he's exiling every turn?
>>95909993>REDDITORS proxyactually, it's poor people that proxy
(and also the more competitive you are the more accommodating you are to proxies)
call yourself budget conscious, or you have a family now and you have better use of your money, fact of the matter is you don't have the disposable income anymore, sorry, i'm just calling a spade a spade
truth is the last thing wotc wants is having casuals (the people actually buying cards) get any ideas that they can get the same experience in having a beautiful card with a proxy, wotc wants casuals to be validated that their expensive purchase is being recognized, and what better way for your legit card to be admired than to be outside playing at events, also you're not a "real fan" if you didn't buy the real thing you know
>>95909993you're out of touch
>>95909763>nintendo allowing their non-pokemon IP to enter magic for example is every wotc exec's wet dreamoh god...zelda
>>95909999>Aura Shards >in the year of our lord halfway to 2026
>>95910029You're out of touch if you think your average consumer proxies in a trading card game.
>>95910028>actually, it's poor people that proxyyou're an idiot
wealthier people are notoriously cheap and tight, and would be more likely to proxy/counterfeit if they can get away with it.
It's the chilld-less "I have a job at McDonalds!" types who never proxy and throw away half their paychecks on cardboard.
>>95910032This is really the only one I could see being done. However, I think Nintendoโs monetary demands might be a bit too much for WotC/Hasbro and combine that with the image that most people playing MtG are adults while all Nintendo adverts are clearly geared towards children and families and that might cause too much of a clash with them to be worth pursuing. Iโd be willing to bet that something like FromSoftwareโs games (I.e. Dark Souls, Elden Ring) are more likely as a UB property than Zelda.
>>95910032>bad hygene>washed out merch>absolute "gamer culture" cornball>autism in denial >literally the "read another book" of its mediumit would work so well in MtG, lets be honest.

yes it's flawed and gavin's better off saying "you can't go infinite/near infinite before turn X" but unfortunately he didn't think of that
>>95910120also edhrec isn't perfect, resto angel happens to be the far more popular blinker
>>95910100Please nobody tell WotC that FE autists will literally pay up the ass for anything Three Houses/Radiant Dawn/Blazing Blade related

>>95910139those two cards do allow infinite blinks, and technically you can be an ass and waste everyone's time with it (who's gonna call you out for slow play right lmao)
that's why i argue that infinite of ANY KIND should be bundled together regardless if it wins on the spot or not, gavin has the right idea but his arguments for combos is full of "generally" and lacks oomph, compare that to his autismo on MLD

Everything was downhill after that because all the win conditions kept coming out faster and faster until we weren't so much playing as we were just hoping to draw exactly what we needed by turn three or four. Why do people hate Muldrotha so much? I've posted here twice asking for advice for my deck and both times someone basically responded with "lul Muldrotha is lame"
I would still consider myself a newer player overall so I've never played anything that interacts heavily with my graveyard before. Is it because its unfair? Or is it just because Muldrotha is OP?
https://moxfield.com/decks/pFey8l-IA0aoyQtyB3JrTA
Some of the cards are expensive but I only really play with friends and they're fine if I proxy the expensive lands and such.

>>95910749nobody wants to play graveyard hate
>>95910749Muldrotha is lame
>>95910749Commanders that encourage you to play the same cards over and over every turn cycle are inherently boring. Muldrotha is a prime example of this, as is Feather. The card would have been fine if it had a finality counter clause, but I know the card was printed before that was standardized.
>>95910778standardized? that was before they even conceived of counters that did anything but +/- or help you count.
>>95910778>Commanders that encourage you to play the same cards over and over every turn cycle are inherently boringnot always true

>>95910767everybody loves playing the 500 cards with graveyard exile on it
commanders that cost more than 4 mana are unviable outside of green
>>95910787"every turn cycle" not "in every deck"
in voltron you're encouraged to run similar equipment because it's good. his point is in muldrotha you have the same five cards you play every turn, sac them, then do it again next turn.

cloud and muldrotha are as cookie cutter as edh decks come, the only difference is that cloud either ends the game quickly or is taken out of the game quickly, muldrotha drags the game down and makes you question the creativity of your opponent (despite them using the most uncreative color, black)
>>95910805The counter itself isn't providing the effect, it just turns the effect on. If you move the blaze counter to another land, the new land doesn't burn.
>>95910749Because it just loops effects that fuck with everyone. People will always whine when you blow up too much of their shit and by nature Muldrotha encourages you to just loop edicts all day and clean out boards. It's technically a toolbox but it only ever picks the same three of its tools out of the yard.
>>95910805I wanted to say help with memory problems but "help you count" was snappier.
in that case the counter helps you remember that it has the effect, stuff like finality counters and <keyword> counters have innate mechanics.
>>95910816You can hate UB and Cloud but the justification for doing so would need to be different from reasons why you hate Feather and Muldrotha. Comparing Cloud and Muldrotha is disingenuous.

The mono white cloud seems best in standard. The Naya cloud seems nuts and the boros cloud is best in its respective archetype
>>95910916mono w cloud is very linear and easily shut down, but he does have the ability to get out of hand, as with all voltron commanders in the lower brackets
any ff casual getting into mtg who pulls him in their pack shouldn't have any trouble building him since it's mono and will get their money's worth win or lose, so mono w cloud does his job well in that respect

Mothman is voltron mill so you hit hard then your opponents mills it's strong but also has a reputation so you'll get targeted a lot and that isn't fun so desu I would recommend the Desert Bloom Precon or Gruul dragon starter precon they're really cheap compared to the UB stuff and since everyone thinks they suck you will float under the radar and sometimes win just cause nobody is paying attention to you and they're both very beginner friendly

>>95911717You forgot about "Battles"
>>95911759Doesn't matter what the source if it's not even an attempt to use original characters it's a crossover. Theros isn't a crossover because they at least scraped the names off the Greeks. Arabian Nights is not a "Arabian myth adjacent" setting with OC characters, it's pre-established characters shoved into Magic. It's a crossover no matter how obtuse you want to try and be about it retardkun, it was included because Aladdin was a red hot property in 1993 thanks to the movie that was released a year before, and it was the 2nd major release in the game's history. Right at the start, Magic was 50% UB and they never stopped, they did the exact same shit with Three Kingdoms which was made right after Mulan.
>>95911779Battles aren't pushed slop that always get the same boring sweaty mechanics revolving around it. That Tezzert for example sums up literally every artifact deck made
>tutor for your slop!>get value out of your slop then untap it to get value again!>is your slop not a creature and enemies are swinging at you? turn your slop into a creature!
>>95911781What a nonsensical post. They did one UB-set at the beginning and one some years later to peddle it specifically to the Asian market. That's two sets in a quarter of a century. Saying they "never stopped" is disingenuous.
>>95911314Look at this card and you can already see the sweaty nerd playing this in some blue artifact deck. Taking 15-minute turns where he plays zero-mana artifacts, immediately uses the ultimate ability and blinks the commander four times. Imagine the smug look on his face when he finally kills everybody at the table at once. Afterwards he will explain his card-choices and the theme of the deck, how much thought and strategy went into this deck. This deck that looks exactly like three-thousand other decks on EDHrec.

>>95912076Had a fucking blast with it last night
https://archidekt.com/decks/13425334/crystal_collection
One game I got an early Unshakable Tail and that boy puts in so much fucking WORK with Golbez, once I got out Enhanced Surveillance it became a matter of just puking out clues and surveiling 3 at a time. With Polluted Cistern (before it was removed during a particularly UPSETTING Smothering Tithe moment) I managed to drain the table for 20 or so before my draw step and it probably would've been 30-40 if they hadn't removed it. Won at end step with Apocalypse Demon coming out of the grave with Golbez, though so no real complaints.
I just made a small maybeboard of more ways to surveil because the mechanic feels great when executed continuously. Maybe I should get more thopter generators.
>>95912111I've started replacing protection with more card draw.

>>95912717autists usually hate knowledge pool
does you deck/commander profit from it? or do you run effects that prevent people from playing cards from exile, effectively locking them from playing spells? if any of these apply, use it. the card alone does very little for you if not.
>>95912814It exiles all cards on stack making board interaction at least a 2 step process while itโs on the field.
>>95912824My commander and deck can turn a few cards on board to lethal in just a few turns so long as I have triggers and mana

>>95913597well yeah, he's five mana and the 10 life caveat is a lot harder to hit

>>95914016You cast it on 0 targeting some pissant on someone else's board (possibly even your own board), then you swing your commander at them for lethal because although their life total doesn't change, they still take the damage, which counts for commander damage.

This can now be your commander thanks to the new rules change.
The only reason I think Planeswalkers aren't allowed as commanders is the sheer amount of them at this point.
Legendary Vehicles is a pretty small group and most are mono colored (aka mediocre commanders)

I like the new spaceship mechanic. Its interesting design space, a vehicle that you "invest" power on and that permanently becomes a creature later
Bug Boy
It's Crucible of Worlds/+1/+1 counters matter that plays well with Fetches during your turn.
>>959159957+ straight up does not look like magic fuck me I hate this set already
>Nerf Mazirek's sacrifice trigger

>He lets you play lands from graveyard
At least jund insects finally have a good commander to work with.
>>95916027Can you still do infinite with Murderous Redcap? Asking because I'm not sure about the targeting effect during the sacrifice.

>>95916066You're a real comedian, anon
>>95916070That's what it looks like. When it drops it's just an artifact with the ETB. When it has 7+ counters it turns into a creature with the text in the bottom half of the textbox
>>95916070Its pretty obvious that is what's going on. It just looks retarded. The top half is the effect. Everything in that slightly grayed out bar is the creatures effect. That's why it says other creatures.
>>95915995This is just level up but retarded
>>95916025Have you seen any of the level up cards? This is essentially a smaller version of that.
That, and a different templating for "If this card has seven or more charge counters, it gains". Which would be a bit more awkward to do when it can instead be condensed into the number and a keyword.

>>95917151I can't post proofs but Wizards has come out in the past and said they think hybrid mana should count as EITHER color for color identity rather than BOTH.
Rules Committee always disagreed.
Same thing with wishes actually. The comprehensive rules do not say that wishes may only pull from a sideboard. Wishes pull from any card you have in your collection, but in tournament play the imposition of a sideboard means you're only allowed to choose from that.
Rules Committee didn't want wishes, so we don't have wishes.

>>95917179Kain deals 2 damage to an opponent. You draw 2 cards, create 2 treasures, lose 2 life, and hand the card over to your opponent. Next turn your opponent can attack with Kain, drawing cards etc and handing it back to you.
>>95917148>Most constructs don't have soulsLets not get into the morass of what a soul is, Karn and may other machines in magic do have sentience and sapience.
>>95917179>UB slop has poorly worded effectsColor me surprised.
Okay, the way you have to imagine this is that the effect in its entirety goes on the stack before it resolves. So when it went on the stack, you were the controller of Kain so any reference to you means you. Then the effect resolves, other player takes Kain, you get the cards treasure etc.
Then if that player deals combat damage later, it resolves in the same way, effect goes on the stack, all references to "you" mean its controller at the time it went on the stack, which is now them
>>95917190>>95917185So why would my opponent ever hand kain back to me
I think this might become a very good commander soon.
>>95917208Because it's funny and funny plays make for a good game.
>>95917208Strategically not attacking at all makes sense unless they want to draw cards and make treasures, so they would still attack your other opponents racking up Commander Damage.
UB is for faggots though
>>95917208Because they want to draw and ramp themselves, you can also just take it back.
>>95917212There's plenty of Draw Card slop Commanders that are cheaper and have better colors.
>>95917198What other machines have sentience and sapience?
>>95917208Because they're greedy and want cards and mana, or because you played something that forces combat. There's probably a dozen or more forced combat cards, not even including goad, but I happen to have pic related saved so there you go.
