TQ: Are you making any vehicle commanders with the new rules change?
>TQ
Not unless they make a legendary boros vehicle in EoE
>>95932714 (OP)none of the existing legendary vehicles seem particularly interesting (or viable) as commanders, and Spaceships inspire a visceral hatred deep within my soul
>>95932714 (OP)>TQ: Are you making any vehicle commanders with the new rules change?>rules change? What change? I was already planning to build Bello vehicles or pic related. Good changes or bad?
>>95932734>Spaceships inspire a visceral hatred deep within my soulBut spaceships and astronauts are the magic aesthetic now. Direct your hate toward UB instead with their shitty elves and wizards.
>>95932744Legendary Vehicles can be your Commander
>>95932749I can hate UB and modern pop culture hat sets in equal measure
>TQ
only if wotc gets space battleship yamato
or gundam
or (imo more likely) a popular gacha game like honkai star rail, picrel
>>95932752So, vehicles always count as creatures now or is this just a rules change specifically made to push product to EDH players?
>>95932764They still need to be crewed before they get to be creatures, but it's a rule change to specifically allow the new iteration (Spaceships) to be commanders
>>95932764just a rules change specifically made to push product to EDH players
>>95932764just a rule change, every legendary vehicle basically has genesis engine's clause.
>The entire next plot arc is going to be Bolas throwing a tantrum that Narset and Jace walked in on him getting his ass plowed by Ugin.
>Ugin's going to continue being a useless fucker and instead of just telling everyone "He's upset you saw us having sex and just wants you to promise not to tell anyone, but has trouble expressing himself because he's emotionally repressed," he's going to continue being so useless that he'll end up making Sorin look like he did all the lifting.
>>95932714 (OP)>TQProbably won't be making any actual vehicle commander decks but I have been getting more interested in making some vehicle decks.
My current playgroup has gotten bigger such that we often have 5-6 people which is suboptimal for getting in multiple games as a standard commander game, and so I've tried out Emperor a few times but it's had some real issues, mostly in the pseudo 1v1 format where a bad matchup means you can just get run over without actually getting to play at all. I've made a few modifications combined and would like some feedback. Obviously certain decks are better fits for the General Vs. Emperor role, but I feel like this equalizes things a bit better.
>>95932764Basically all Legendary Vehicles have "Can be your commander" but otherwise function as normal. Some have speculated this is to pave the way for some future UB set in space like Star Trek or Wars to have extra push for EDH
I still can't believe Space Wars is a real set.
>>95932764Any legendary card that has a P/T on the front face can be your commander now, is the specific rule.
So, no balamb or elbrus commanders yet
>>95932714 (OP)>TQTitanic is actually really fun.
>have power doubler or damage doubler effects>lob your titanic cruise missile at a player>Get a ton of treasure>immediately able to bring back your titanic missile to keep doing the same thing. Probably even enough to abuse multi combats if you have them and haste>Flying and trample+large power making it hard to not take damage from it>add some haste (super hard for red!) and you're just casting titanics and immediately lobbing them at people like you're fucking Ghandi in civ. Feeling like one of the more viable vehicle commanders.
>>95932778>Some have speculated this is to pave the way for some future UB set in space like Star Trek or Wars to have extra push for EDHSeems unnecessary. Those will obviously end up being spaceships. So they could have just made the rule exclusively for spaceships.
>>95932781I prefer it to "niche Gen X furry kids novel set"
>>95932764Rules change just to push product to EDH, it only applies to choosing your commander, and is there to open the way to planeswalkers in command zone.
>>95932797for UB purposes vehicles are included because mecha definitely aren't spaceships
>>95932778>>95932797it's been staring us all in the face!
Thirty (30) starting life is objectively superior to fourty (40)
>>95932714 (OP)>TQ: Are you making any vehicle commanders with the new rules change?RMS Titanic, gonna build it as an unblockable nuclear warhead. Launches, one-hit KO someone, reload it and launch again with all the treasures
>>95932815based. Doing the same. It is fun as fuck.
>>95932802>do the desparkening so people can use their favorite Planeswalkers as commanders>print more flipwalkers so you can play EVEN MORE of your favorite Planeswalkers as commanders>drastically reduce the number of planeswalkers being printed>half the sets every year have zero planeswalkersthey're doing everything in their power to avoid answering demand for all Planeswalkers to be commanders
>Finally get a jund insect commander that's better than Xira
>It's arguably the worst precon commander in the past 12 months
>Basically impossible to build around it because of all the safety valves
>It's gonna play second fiddle to a fucking spaceship anyway
It feels like they want to cater to the insect tribal crowd to sell them cards, but they don't want them to be in any way relevant in any format.
>>95932819since planeswalkers can't engage in combat their only real use in the command zone is to be a combo piece, a tutor, or some i win condition, like nicol bolas dragon god once you sweep everything
wotc (and really everyone, PWs as commanders were never that popular) wants nerds duking it out in combat, flipwalkers are the best we're going to get
>>95932823>>Basically impossible to build around it because of all the safety valvesThis is what really pisses me off about magic design
>>95932818hell yeah bro I'm fucking stoked
>>95932823>It's arguably the worst precon commander in the past 12 monthsnot as bad as this was
>>95932829Updoot and gold to you friendo!
>>95932842Do you have any list yet? I'm having a hard time finding good creatures for the deck that aren't just generic good creatures.
>NO! HAVING MORE OPTIONS AND VARIETY IS CRINGE!!!
>>95932843people still show up to my LGS with saheeli or pia. at the very least the precon itself has a bunch of good energy cards.
>>95932855this but unironically. Choice is bad

>>95932853Nah I just came up with the idea yesterday. Need to finish the two decks I'm working on atm and then I'm gonna start it. Plenty of options for unblockable outside of blue, which definitely helps
>love chocobos as a kid
>been meaning to build a lands deck
Guess I'm gonna be building this next, probably bling it out too. Anything interesting to put in or is it a build itself type of deck?
>>95932744Anthems seem so weak nowadays. Makes me sad.
>>95932855Yes. Changing the rules to push product is bad.
>>95932878there are dozens of super cheap birds out there, and their mom
When do living weapons get to be commanders?
>>95932878There's a bunch of new "landfall: create a bird" cards from the FF sets. They help a ton
>>95932878the green chocobos help, understandably
I get that more birds are blue than red but wish he was naya instead
>>95932886Sex with hoversluts
>>95932887weapons being held by germs get to be commanders at the same time weapons held by rebels or heroes do.
>>95932887when wotc gets the appropriate IP it'll be rolled out
the P/T requirement in vehicles/spacecraft is no coincidence, picrel
>>95932886Almost forgot about her, thanks. Probably add in pic related too.
>>95932889>>95932896I can see a lot of the cards I'd be wanting will be generating tokens, so might dedicate a couple slots to that.
>>95932855Yes. A tight well designed game with a much smaller card pool would objectively be better than a game with 20000 worthless cards and a few thousand ones that vary widely between playable to okay to great to broken.
>>95932882Most retarded boomer pearl clutching take I've seen in a long time.
>>95932917You should have stopped playing magic in 1995 then, commander has never been like this. You are a retard and your opinion will be discarded.
Shandalar (1997) was peak MTG.
>>95932867I decided to eschew unblockable and just go full in on haste and double damage/power abilities as much as I could. Having flying means blocking it will be harder. Doubling to 14 or doing triple damage so they'll still take a bunch.
Ideally by turn 5 I want to have a creature to crew, have a haste enabler, and have something to double damage.
I might consider multi-combat, too. It may sac itself but when you get a dozen or more treasures, you can just recast it and do it again if you have haste.
My current list. Warning that this is rough and much of it is me guessing shit and combing scryfall. Still testing.
https://moxfield.com/decks/dhm9E8Xw4UadV14U1XhadA
>>95932925>point out how your opinions are cringe>have a cringe melty in response confirming my post
>>95932919he's right, especially since this rule change is all but explicitly intended to push product. It's exactly what people were concerned about when Wizards took over for the RC.
>every set has a new keyword ability, this is changing rules
>every set is bad
It all make sense.
>>95932933>you can just recast it and do it again if you have haste.and when are you doing that
>>95932927Shandalar (using the most recent 'add every magic card' mod) was peak MTG.
>>95932933I'm definitely going for the more thematic approach. Nukes can't be stopped, they're inevitable once launched. Gives you just enough time to wave goodbye
>>95932946>Nukes can't be stopped, they're inevitable once launched>must have crew that don't get removed>must have a haste enabler like greaves>hope no one has flying blockers>hope no one has removal>hope you can do this for 3 turns to kill 1 playerlol
as an aside i hope doctor who gets cancelled so gavin can have a good cry
>>95932941You get two main phases.
>>95932961Laughably terrible bait.
>>95932961>must have a haste enablerA real fucking hard ask in red. You can have a creature who can crew AND gives haste at the same time.
>>95932961>must have a haste enabler like greavesin red?????? There's like 100 fucking cards that do it you fuckin moron
>>95932961My god man it's the casual format. We're not playing Modern here. There's room for a hail mary.
>>95932968>>95932970name some 3 power red creature cards that can give haste to another creature every turn without tapping so they can also crew, bonus points if that creature happens to be cmc 3 or lower so you can ram the ship on curve
Golden Argosy if you could give it a color would be great FACT
>>95932961>someone posts deck>REEEEE YOUR DECK IS GARBAGEDamn I wonder why people just talk about sex or swordbro.
Do you think it has potential as commander?
How about Esika's Chariot?
>>95932997>call your deck an unstoppable nuke>tell you that it's not>aaaahhh you hate casuallol trust me this'll be one of those "build, pilot twice, disassemble" kinds of decks
>>95933006the funny thing is nukes are also not unstoppable. So it fits.
>>95933002an overall worse teneb the harvester
sure why not
>>95932966it really does seem like the kind of deck that seems way better in theory than it is in practice. At best it just seems like a mediocre Voltron strategy.
I play big dragon and turn it sideways.
>>95933023This is why we have brackets anon.
>>95933026A guy was acting passive aggressively mad at me the other week because he thought my deck's bracket was higher than his.
What the fuck do I do with this exactly?
>>95933026and what bracket does strapping swords to a boat that kills itself fall into
>>95933026even as a bracket 1 it fails, because voltron is the last thing the doctor who titanic is supposed to be
>btw wotc getting the actual voltron/golion in UB would be kino
>>95933037>it is another: anon does not understand a deck at allAnd yes the fact you mention using swords indicates this.
>>95933002yeah, but that potential is going to be the same monoblack reanimator targets it has been for the past 7 years.
esika's is also fine, but it's monogreen populate.
>>95933035You keep asking this, and you keep getting told, fuck off.
Anyone else building? Looking for some good card recs
>>95933039>a flying 7/1 trample flyer that makes broken ass tokens can't win against chair tribalBeggin you to play a game anon.
>>95933041swords are not game changers and are perfectly acceptable even in bracket 1, such as in a joke deck about strapping swords to a boat to turn it into a nuke
>>95933047What the fuck am I supposed to do with this exactly?
>>95933053bracket 1 isn't about winning though, it's about sending a message
even chair tribal can be hilarious in a white nerdy kind of way, a vergil chair meme altered proxy is also bound to be in there somewhere
meanwhile killing people with commander damage is just about the most unimaginative thing you can do in bracket 1
>>95933063I really don't see the Titanic concept winning many games. You'll kill one person then either get hated off the board or your game plan fizzles because you blew all your pump spells on the funny nuke.
>>95933068yep not only is it just gonna be a kingmaker it's neither an efficient or even a "lore accurate" one
>>95933037I can tell you did not look at the list.
How to make him work as a family friendly commander?
>>95933051heroes' reuinion
>Tfw stayed up until 4am last night teaching my buddies how to play commander but no one even realized how late is was because everyone was having such a good time
the good news is i can finally play commander with my friends, the unfortunate part is all 3 of them want sephiroth decks
>>95933086I miss those days
Now every game ends in an argument
>>95933068That sounds like a typical Voltron problem and it can be solved. It needs blockers and protection and when you hit something you're going to get a hilarious amount of treasures to do something with. Post-combat main is going to be the most important phase of this deck.
>>95933086I think Sephiroth's art is going to convince me to finally build a mono black deck
>>95933096>only with the power of IP can anons stomach the uncreativeness of mono blackthanks UB!
>>95933096How is it even possible to play the game when 1 or 2 opponents resolve this IMO
>>95933096I'm building it now because I have this art
>>95933078what list, like ten equips to give it unblockable? Swords absolutely fall into that same general purpose. He's clearly going at it from a Voltron angle.
>>95933104Nah, other shit in universe cards have tempted me solely due to art.
>>95933107bringing lots of removal and killing them first
>>95933115tempted yes, but only sephiroth made you commit to the bit
UB is correct, IP can truly move mountains
>>95933095the problem is a lot of that mana has to go into recasting and re-equipping Titanic, and at least some of the blockers have to get tapped down so Titanic can actually attack.
>>95933091i honestly stopped playing for a while because i couldnt find a consistent group, and every group of randoms i tried to play with would leave after one game when someone slightly got ahead
so having a few drinks and just playing was fucking great
>>95933096i love mono black, and my favorite character is mono black so im excited to build him
all my friends are huge ff7 fags so they all picked up the cloud decks also, so they first 2 decks they all want is cloud and sephiroth, except one buddy who wants a kefka deck
i want to build a strong emet selch deck but i probably wont be able to play it much until everyone gets used to the game
I wonder what swordbros latest deck is
>>95932997My decks are proxied and I don't want to trigger anti-proxyschizo.
Just imagine if hasbro bought the license to print The legend of zelda cards...
People and scalpers with murder each other for collector boosters .
Imagine a 1/1 Mastersword .
Lotr and ff combined would hold no sway over that shit storm.
Unironically I would get the thicc imp card.
>>95932831Can't wait until we see Ugin & Bolas, LGBT Instructors in Secrets of Strixhaven.
>>95933141>LGBT InstructorsYou mean because homosexuality is learned behavior?
>>95933144Yes Bolas learned he was gay when he saw Ugin's hips.
>>95933137you showing a card from that treehugger rag known as ikoria already triggers my storytelling sensibilities
>>95933156>you showing a card from that treehugger rag known as ikorialolwut
>>95933134screw that, I wonder what that anon who was making a deck for each 1, 2, and 3 color combo ended up making since the list he posted had some tentatives on it.
>>95933166ikoria has by far the worst story in all of mtg with the coppercoats being literal strawmen and the bonders unable to do any wrong, no nuance and all propaganda
>play mtg with my usual sunday pod
>good games, brain kinda mush
>get home, DMs from a friend
>he wants to take me up on my offer to teach him
>play three more 1v1 games on TTS until he has the ropes of playing the game down
>brain now even more mush
My pulls from the LGS vig were truly out of this world, too. What a nice day.
>>95933174which politics is this?
will ff coolector boxes real 2k+ ? for real the us/can market is utter shit scalper paradise. Totally disgusting.
>>95933123Best I can figure playing around is to get it Flash with Shimmer Myr and other stuff to recast it with multiple combats and effects that go off when you connect.
There's maybe something there, but it's gonna take some cooking.
>>95933184sure it was anon
>>95933185they're collector boxes, they're not getting reprinted
>>95933181ikoria was really weird "nature good, humans bad"
the humans are fighting a losing battle against giant monsters, but the humans are actually the bad guys except the humans that like monsters that everyone trusts implicitly.
>>95932997>>95933137Do it anyway. Fuck 'em.
>>95933188hasbro is retarded if they dont.
>>95933185yes because people in the US are rich because their economy is good.
>no it is badIf it was bad you couldn't afford 1000 dollar boxes and 8000 dollar disney trips.
>>95933191hasbro is maybe the most retarded company in the US
>>95933187actually it's bottom left
>>95933190I need to take a picture of my doctor who deck with the gay sol ring in it. Seethe is fun.
>>95933194Blizzard entertaiment... hold my onions latte.
Trying to finish out the list for Baylen, looking for some hidden gems or better optimization. I know I definitely need to find a way to slot in lifegain, and I probably want to figure out better protection and card draw. Mana is just placeholder until I figure out the rest of the ratios
>https://archidekt.com/decks/14008936/baylen
>>95933200blizzard at their dumbest is still smarter than the rewarmed tuna surprise that exists in the heads of every hasbro c-suite executive
>>95933198>gay sol ring>seethe is funweird flex
you're far more likely to play with pro lgbt white dudes than any chud out there
>>95933211Oh I own the card because I really like the artist and even own some of her art work. The seethe is a bonus for posting a picture of the deck here.
>>95933190ai slop fetches are insane
>>95933223you proxied an mtg card so you might as well proxy people's art through AI while you're at it
Do you think the format will still exist in five years?
>>95933190Based coomette enjoyer
>>95933232But what does an anime sloppa have to do with Arid Mesa
>>95933238>what does ai art have to do with proxiesa lot actually, funnily enough
>>95933234Yes.
I was told magic would die due to angels not being white people.
This was 2017
>>95933246Maybe it already is dead, due to angels not being white people.
>>95933190I disapprove of the norn. Turning her Human is wrong. She is a sexy monster girl mommy.
>>95933234the format is going nowhere
Will it be enjoyable, or will we see a fracture into sub-formats to try and solve the new issues with Brackets and game design? Who knows, but I'm already seeing variant games at my local shop.
>>95933252We are all dead
This is hell
>>95933259the world truly ended in 2012. There was a rapture, but none were found worthy.

it's only going to get much better
>>95933321there was a youtuber that made an entirely AI generated video, just to see if people would notice, and it took a LONG fucking time for people to realize it wasn't him, if they even caught it at all.
We're about 1-1.5 years out from AI hitting the threshold where it can truly compete with actual artists. Which is a terrifying thought, when you can already have AI generate an incredibly strong base to then modify through in-painting and overlays.
>>95933288A non-shit store doesn't do shit unless someone complains.
>>95933347practically speaking the only time people will complain is if someone is actually shameless enough to use proxies in wotc sanctioned events, or even in FNMs where packs are involved, it only takes one (1) guy to complain and shame your name out of the hobby
>>95933368thankfully this is an edh thread
>>95933370>FNMs are becoming EDH now>why do you think wotc made brackets
>>95933377These are a minority. Vast majority of EDH events you will find are just "come in and find a pod"
>>95933368or the store cares about public image.
there's 2 in my town, that have some serious bad blood between eachother. the one on main street allows full proxies, and the slut art, and I'm amazed he stays in business. It's always empty except for the weekly EDH tourney, where the same 3 people show up with decks built to stomp and farm points.
The other shop, towards the town center, is constantly packed, and caters towards a bunch of groups (Lorcana, MTG, Pokemon, OP, etc) and has a strict "proxy, but only if its SFW" policy, since there's kids there a lot of the time. They're the ones that get all the real business, and chased off the assholes showing up to casual nights with Yuriko and friends.
>>95933384>They're the ones that get all the real businesswould that shop happen to sell overpriced food?
>It's ridiculous to be against Universes Beyond. People can play whatever they want. They can have characters from comics and movies on their cards if they like. Nobody has to adhere to your narrow ideas of a medieval fantasy card game. Just deal with it.
>Okay, I'm going to play proxies with big titted anime girls on them and also give them big, throbbing, veiny co...
>No! You can't do that! That will make people uncomfortable! You're BANNED forever from playing magic! aadiagsdiagduasgdasgdasddasdyxcxvvsvsdf
>>95933234No, most likely not. Wizards is doing its level best to kill the game by only caring about short-term profits over the long-term health of the game.
>>95933393proxies are such a slippery slope it's hilarious more people don't see it
>>95933398banning proxies are such a slippy slope it's hilarious people don't see it
>>95933393This but replace all goblins with shortstack bimbo proxy art
>>95933399>banning proxies are such a slippy slope>doesn't elaboratethankfully this is an anonymous board where you can just leave, whew!
It's hard to get appropriate art for proxies.
>>95933403When you ban proxies you just encourage someone to use counterfeits. Rather than paying 5000 dollars for card board they are more likely to just get cards that LOOK real. Instead of obvious fake titty cards and shit. Now you have convincing fakes floating around because you wanted to stop proxies.
>>95933392Nope, they sell cheaper than the other store. Water bottles are .50c there, sodas are .75c a can, 1.50 a bottle, and $2 for energy drinks. Though they did partner with a local independent baker that brings in cake balls and other stuff that sell a bit higher. They still have the $1 chips and other candies
They also actively check the prices on their cards. Bought an Orcish Bowmaster from them for $25, and a Unlimited edition Stasis from them for $26. Orcish was below market, because they hadn't updated the display and honored their listed, and Stasis was reduced from $35 because they hadn't checked it in a bit
>>95933409most of the decks you play against are already counterfeits anon.
>>95933411>so they sell food after allnot surprised at the least lmao
knowing what business you're in is key after all, best of luck to those "cardgame stores"
>>95933414also correct
>>95933430the actual fuck are you trying to say? Why wouldn't a shop stock some cheap snacks to sell to the people sitting and playing for hours?
>>95933409>when you ban low quality counterfeits you only encourage people to buy high quality counterfeits!roru rumao
the high quality ones are well worth their price, everybody wants to play with a clean looking card
it's the low quality ones that are the real scams
>>95933434believe it or not card games originally weren't set up to sell food
the card game stores you talk about aren't actually card game stores, but nerdy cafes
>>95933440I'd kill for a nerdy cafe. Buying a bag of doritos and a monster doesn't make a place not a card shop.
Or do you think a college is a restaurant because you can walk up to a vending machine for a mtn dew?
>>95933443a college is a legal diploma mill, the product is the diploma and the degree, and they profit through student loans
>I'd kill for a nerdy cafe. Buying a bag of doritos and a monster doesn't make a place not a card shop.if people can proxy anything why would anyone buy your overpriced original cardboard?
well, that's not a problem if the cardboard on your shelf isn't actually your product

Did your favorite character get a good card? Mine is pretty decent though I wish she had a main set multi color legendary.
>>95933494She didn't get one....
>>95933491i'm perfectly fine with 100% proxy cedh, because at that point authenticity and genuineness of cards to prove your love of (IP) doesn't matter anymore, but only pure performance
>>95933491shelling out for the custom playing cards order for staples and big ticket cards i only have 1 of was one of the best investments i ever made.
If anyone wants to bitch that my Rhystic or Ring isn't "real", I can just pull out the little binder and tell them to fuck off.
>>95933494As a FF6fag, I'm eating good. Sure, 7 and 10 got literally everything handed to them on a silver platter, but my god are the main set Terra and Kefka so damn good. Plus, I got Amano art for both of them, TWICE.
Hell, the fact that I can turn Terra into a fucking viable cEDH list is already a great moment to rub into all the 7 player's faces
Really wish they'd print a pair of legendaries that have partner with eachother AND meld. Both mechanics just work so well together. They had the perfect opportunity to do it with Fang and Vanille
>>95933504As a 14 fag I'm also eating good, I'm so fucking glad Emet Selch is good
And even without the new stuff, having a krikk reprint with him as an alt art is amazing
>>95933504I want people to be able to play strong decks so I encourage proxies, I like playing more powerful decks even when it's not cedh
>>95933511rule zero if vehicles can be commanders so can brothers and sisters yamazaki
>>95933515I doubt anyone would say no if you asked to rule 0 those. They'd need to be tremendous fuckheads.
>>95933511they just need to add a clause that, if both halves of a Meld card are Legendary, then they can be Partnered. The real issue is tracking the Commander Damage after they Meld. Do you just add the melded form to both counts? Does it track on its own, because now it's technically a 3rd entity?
wotc trannies took this away from us...
>>95933523The way the rules work, it would probably track as a different, third commander damage since like you mentioned its a different entity. Man, i wish i could run Mishra and Phyrexian Dragon Engine as partners.
>>95933494I like Squall, exalted is one of my favorite mechanics and I really like how him and Seifer have similar abilities but for opposite card types and I like the opposition in the colors they chose for them.
I was really hoping we'd get an Alexander that was pushed but he's really shit, one of the worst of the Summons.
I like that' Gruul Yuna is decent in standard in both the existing overlord shells but also in her own build around brews.
>>95933511>They had the perfect opportunity to do it with Fang and VanilleI'm so fucking salty about it still. Meld is straight up impossible without running an assload of tutors to find it ASAP and that just sounds lame as fuck

>>95933550Fair. Was hoping she would be a good commander but at least she has a niche. Being the only red ninja is interesting
>>95933540Is it only venat and Selch for the ascians we have available?
>>95933548>jank as in no interaction, just gasnot only does jank mean something completely different you can't just ignore what your three opponents are doing, even cedh rogsi runs toxic deluge
>>95933546I like Yuffie. I put her in Osgir so I could steal mana rocks and then sacrifice them.
>>95933494>Tfw no alt artAt least he's gonna be fun to play, I'm tutoring for eye of nidhog every game
>>95933553you can build her cEDH Food Chain, Enchantment Goodstuffs, Summons, Sagas, and my personal favorite, Control Combo. She's got variety, and each of them is definitely different in powerlevels.
>>95933560We also got Fannyman, and Hermes. No Lahabrea, or Elidibus, which is weird.
>>95933560There's also Hermes and Fandaniel
>>95933561NTA, as a CEDH tourney grinder, Toxic deluge see's such a weirdly low amount of play atm, shockingly too since the current meta has the most creature heavy boards in the time I've been playing.
>>95933532Got a list for Squall, anon?
I was thinking about building the somewhat infamous Rocco secret commander Norin deck, but i'm worried that its going to be too obnoxious and annoying to interact with. I play exclusively bracket two and in playtesting Norin just generates so much value with other ETB matter effects. But maybe i'm worrying too much
>>95933585Not yet. I don't play too much casual commander so it takes me a lot to actually put together a deck. Right now I want to rebuild a Glissa Sunslayer deck because of all the summon support and Odin providing a somewhat real wincon.
Squall will definitely be my next Orzohv commander though.
For squall though I think the deck will be a grindy deck that leans heavily into maurading fleshbag type creatures to help squall constantly keep the board pretty clean along side cards that sac themselves as interaction. There's a lot of space to explore since it's any permanent.
Apparently putting Finest Hour in my Progenitus deck makes the deck "Tier 4 bullshit" according to my friend.
I thought 2 card game winning combos was restricted and not 2 card player removal, there's still 2 other opponents left after all.
>>95933608>Apparently putting Finest Hour in my Progenitus deck makes the deck "Tier 4 bullshit" according to my friend.that moment wasn't your friend's finest hour that's for sure
>>9593360815 mana, plus Haste/turn cycle, to kill 1 person with commander damage is so far away from "tier 4" that I'm pretty sure your friend is legally retarded.
>>95933608Would they have the same reaction if you played an unblockable legend alongside Hatred?
>>95933299Personally I'd build him as a midrange copy ETB value deck. Copies retain their mana costs for devotion and copying Clive himself seems like a decent way to reload even if you're immediately sacrificing the copy.
>>95933616Literally worse than door to nothingness.
>>95933546>cheats equip costs while also stealing at the very minimum a mana rockShe's good in the 99 of boros or naya equip decks at least, I might even toss her into Samut haste tribal
>>95933608No one had a single enchantment removal spell.......???? That's on them
>>95933494>Did your favorite character get a good card?Shes in void prison but whatever. I had a lot of fun with other characters:
>Mono-White Aerith being surprisingly strong. Mix of Soul Sisters and low-curve Legends>Golbez being slow to start but can get out of hand>Tellah being the Izzet Polymorph commander I've been waiting for>Squall being the control Voltron I've been waiting for>Mardu Terra being the Grenzo replacement with an extra color>Kefka giving me an incentive to put together my Nekusar Wheel/Reanimator list with him at the helm.>Shadow being a fun monoblack alternative to Yuriko>Locke replacing Evereth in my Rakdos Treasures>Zidane as my "monkey business" Boros deck>Choco replacing Kestral for Bird tribalThe set ended up providing more than I thought, even if most of the decks were replacements to existing commanders. I'm still debating on some others like Celes Mardu Cycling or Lulu Mono-Blue Poison.

Pulled squall might do cycling or land stuff
>>95933082I built him with lots of unblockable creatures and equipments that trigger on attacks or combat damage like jittes, sword of X and Y, sword of the animist, etc. The only really nasty pieces are blighted agent cause he's surprisingly enough infect all by himself, and abyssal persecutor to have a big beater myself sometimes. Otherwise I abuse the "can't be sacrificed" part to play a bunch of forced to sac half their creatures effects. It's still hard to draw enough creatures to gift and sometimes also gift enough of them since he can only gift one per turn by himself. His duplication spell and Spark Double help, but that's still difficult to get.
>>95933494Never played FF6 but thereโs something about it that has made me build all three of the Terras and Grixis Kefka, even taking apart my cEDH Tivit list for the Urza Terra (expensive counterspells, One Ring, Rhystic) and Kefka (Bowmasters and DMU Sheoldred). When do you guys think Commander is going to be the Pro Tour format?
At this point it seems all but inevitable given how Wizards pretty much only pump out cards for commander players. And if any of you watched the pro tour stream, it was fucking horrid as a spectator watching standard.
Even though commander fundamentally isn't a competitive format, I'd honestly rather watch a commander pro tour than just about anything else Magic related.

>>95933906>>95933968Multiplayer magic is completely untenable as a competitive game. It is essentially Kingmaking: the board game. There is no possible way of creating rules that prohibit kingmaking/collusion, because that's just what interaction inherently is in this format.
>>95934030I know it's fundamentally not a competitive format, I just think it would be more fun to watch commander games than standard. And like I said, I find it odd Wizards haven't made some sort of "premier event stream" given how hard they're focusing on on commander. yet they don't have some sort of event like that yet.
>>95934030shit like this is also the judges fault
>>95934030I've met some competitive edh players back at magicon and every single one was kind of a special person who would have problems connecting to any group outside of their special cEDH group.
>>95934167It's not a fault of the judges, everything described in that tweet is 100% kosher and an accepted part of the format. You could eliminate the incentive to draw, but you can't completely eliminate politicking from the game. If you just hamfistedly banned all communication, kingmaking scenarios will still arise. Do I counter this game winning spell and let the next guy win, or do I not? Even if there's no actual collusion going on, there's an unspoken incentive for me to give the win to a fellow cedh grinder over some rando with an expectation that he will do the same for me in a similar spot. What should a judge do in this spot?
And that's just the most clear cut scenario, is it king-making to counter a Rhystic Study on turn 2?
>>95934234rhystic study should just be banned

How do I learnt to enjoy storm? It's just so fucking boring. Just play cards until the deck stalls. They're either dead, or I'm dead because I can't be allowed to storm off again.
>>95934341>>95934376Yes. Now stop asking every thread.
You can use non-legend clones but they will alternate being in play.
the choices made/targets for modal cards are announced when you cast the spell right? Not when it resolves

>>95934234Eliminating the incentive to draw is really all anyone can ask for
Besides not every game will have a kingmaker situation so they will advance while others dont, it is what it is
Ironically countermagic is the biggest culprit of kingmaking, had sam had a toxic deluge he would answer both the tymna engine and korvold
If the meta can be shifted so that many wins are done through creatures rather than spells then there will be more incentive to run wipes instead of single target countermagic and thus reduce kingmaking
>>95934405have outs other than just big fireball, well depends ofc on what powerlevel you wanna play but rakdos ones seem fun due to access to black mages, monored likely has ways to just generate big enough mana to have a kill or closer to it
>>95934474Every game has a kingmaking situation, that's the point I'm trying to make. It's not always explicit like in the example Sam is describing, but countering someone's turn 2 Rhystic Study or casting a removal spell is really not that different from countering the actual wincon. It's just less black/white obvious.
Wipes aren't any different, if I'm not winning the game I'm just deciding whether or not I want the game to go to the player with the most board presence currently. Creature combat is also extremely prone to explicit on-board king-making scenarios.
>>95932823Was so excited for this and it's such a letdown.
People are telling me to go fetchlands blabla, but what's the point if Korvold or Windgrace do those things better.
Still have hopes for the spaceship but I'm close to cancel my pre-order
>>95932823I'm annoyed it's jund and not golgari. High chance all new insects will be red so I can't put them in my zask deck.

>preordering
I just want a knight tribal deck, why must token players make every token creator/doubler overpriced and why must wizards make such cards so overpowered.
>>95934030what the fuck am I reading
wait ... they do cEDH with 4 players...? lol
Hear me out, I have an idea for the Jund insect spaceship commander from the precon:
The spaceship (seedship) places some new counter on lands you control (seed counters or whatever).
Tap, sacrifice a land with a seed counter: draw a card.
When you sacrifice a land with a seed counter on it, create a */* Eumidian Vanguard token, with power and toughness equal to the amount of lands in your graveyard.
With the draw ability you have to decide if you want to sac a fetch for another land or sac it with the ability to draw a card.
What do you think? I like the flavor, but maybe too weak?
Maybe incubate will make a return in some way?
any custom card enjoyers out here? I've been having fun trying out some mechanics in different colors, venture into the dungeon being a really fun one to play with.
>>95934553Yes, I preorder to avoid those crazy price spikes we see everytime, and especially in FF.
I can always cancel the preorder
>>95934621Don't post custom cards anon, no matter what someone will scream at you that it's broken.
I think you could probably copy paste the text from a real printed card onto a custom one and someone would still rant at you about how it's broken.
Last time I saw a custom card posted in these threads someone unironically said that custom cards should only be weaker than real cards because the point is to "fill a niche" instead of being playable.

Cedh just happens to be a drawish game but not every game will be a draw is my point
Is that a good game to spectate? No not really. But that is the game some people want to play so deincentivizing draws is all we can really do
>>95934524>countering someone's turn 2 Rhystic Study or casting a removal spell is really not that different from countering the actual wincon. Creature combat is also extremely prone to explicit on-board king-making scenarios.Advantage isn't kingmaking though??? At any point someone could draw into a card that turns the tide in their favor and how relevant the previous board state is to what they drew is completely nebulous in most cases.
Also you can't kingmake for yourself, that's just called fucking optimal play.
>>95934662the aspect of Broly that is blue is that the designer of this gay little fanfiction wants to make him unblockable and able to protect him with counterspells, and also having a Voltron commander in Simic so he doesnt have to think too hard about properly building a deck
>>95934626There hasn't been a single precon in year that went up in price, FF7 was preordering for 120+ and is now sitting at 80. Even the Warhammer decks are still mostly at their original deck price apart from I think the black one.
>>95934669I think the point was that a game with kingmaking is not suited to be played with prize money like competitive Standard
>>95934713Not for me, I live in Europe and the 40k decks are all at least +30% of their original price
>>95934726Cedh can definitely be played for prizes, it's just that wotc won't have anything to do with it, precisely because it's a bad spectator game, even for a game like magic

>>95934669>You can say that to any free for all game, but that hasnt stopped them from having winnersYeah, and you'd be right mostly.
It's a bit less bad in games intentionally designed for FFA though. These usually involve players competing over some sort of limited resource, with the winners of smaller conflicts gaining some sort of material advantage from the loser that can then be leveraged against the rest of the field. Chips in poker, territory in war games, weapons in a battle royale, etc. Edh doesn't work like this, all interaction is negative for the person expending it and the person on the receiving end of it. The winner of a balanced edh game is the player on the receiving end of the least interaction, basically just the player the rest of the table elected to king-make.
>>95934688Sure, but if you don't win your play was essentially just kingmaking, you just weren't aware of it yet.
Countering a Rhystic Study doesn't net you an advantage either, it puts you down a counter you could have spent protecting your win and the mana you could have used advancing your win. You maybe have more equity in a game where you've countered a Rhystic than one where it has resolved, but really what you've done is taken equity from the Rhystic player and some of your own and given it to the other two players at the table.

While we're here I should probably blow your mind that "solar system" exclusively means our star and planets because the latin name for the sun is Sol. Other star systems are stellar systems and not solar systems.
>b-b-b-but sol also refers to a star so its okay to call other star systems solar systems!!!!That's the level of logic you're working on for your terra cope right now.

>>95935374Except its the exact opposite of that as shown by all their other words. We knew about soil and the ground before we knew about Earth. The word for the geographical formations we live on has to predate the planet that holds them
Hey, I'm trying Diamond weapon as a commander. So far I've got two decent showings but they both required food chain and altar of dementia. Attacking may work "once" but I'm looking for other wincons. Anyone have any ideas?
plain ol attacking doesnt seem to work as well since no trample and 3 turns. I have ways to give trample but it really just feels like he's too fragile in my meta to work.

>>95935469Whiny children infest every hobby. You just learn to deal with them and avoid them afterwards.
>>95935418>>95935427For the reasons I just fucking explained. Do you really think they called earth terra before they were calling the ground they lived on terra? Use your fucking heads how would the word for PLANET come into being before the word for the land we walk on

>>95935035>terra means land>screeching ensues about how no it doesn't>why cant you just accept both waaaaahhhhKill yourself
Terra means land and has been used in the game that way for decades.
>>95935497>Do you really think they called earth terra before they were calling the ground they lived on terra?>how would the word for PLANET come into being before the word for the land we walk onHoly fuck you're so dense.
The Romans knew we lived on a fucking globe. They had a word for the fucking globe we live on. They called it terra. The shit that the globe is made out of is also called terra because they're referring to the same fucking thing.
The Romans were not the first culture in fucking existence. They didn't have to form a language from scratch naming shit as they came across it. They didn't name land terra and then discover they were on a fucking globe and call that terra too. There was 1300 years or recorded fucking writing before the founding of Rome. Estimates of how far back spoken language existed is 50,000-150,000 years ago.
If you start excluding words from use in fantasy because theyโre etymologically linked to real-world referents, youโll quickly run out of usable words.
>>95935606Languages evolve from other languages anon. That's how etymology works. There is no world in which the words for land did not predate the word for planet. And the Romans reflect that in all their words. Again terra incognita means unknown LAND. Terra Australia means southern LAND.
>>95935641>Southern Earth>Australian Earth
>>95935254I feel like they are just gonna be another energy deck (spaceships has charge counters, so they become artifact creatures when they reach a threshold) but in disguise until they reveal it around the days up to presales, so they hope people don't see it and cancels their preorders.
I hope they do the same shit as they did in aetherdrift where one deck is an energy deck and the other has a bad commander, but great reprints and some good addtitions to jund/landfall decks.
>>95935395"Oops all permanents" was what I was thinking, maybe plus Genesis Wave/Majestic Genesis. Run stuff like Satyr Wayfinder effects and maybe some dredge if you feel spicy, which you can back up with green's million Eternal Witness effects. Major threat permanents and creatures, if they remove stuff it makes your commander cheaper. Greater Good store effects to fill your hand and yard. Could also throw in Lure type effects since he doesn't take combat damage.
>>95933204>>95933538If you're trying to optimize an Hare Apparent deck you don't need half those cards. Baylen is draw ramp and a finisher himself and you have zero persistent protection for him and your deck is going to be way too slow to get him out and creating crazy value off him before your opponents starts finding removal and wipes, so you're going to durdle until t5 or 6 with what's supposed to be a ALL GAS NO BRAKES aggro deck and you'll be locked out forever once mass removal starts hitting the board. Meanwhile my Hare Apparent deck was always winning on t5 or 6 by the latest.
All your artifacts but Arc Sig and Thrumming are useless. All your creatures but Enduring Inn are useless and you need 30+ Hares to consistently draw enough of.them. Replace Aggravated Assault with Shared Animosity. You only need Boros Dawn and Heroic for mass protection. Second harvest is a trap eerie interlude is both protection and a doubler, and semesters end is also objectively better in HA. Also you have zero spot removal, which you could potentially get away with if your deck was all gas, but it's too slow as is and a single Ghostly Prison effect will shut down your entire deck and you'll have no way to deal with it. Hell all someone needs to do is wipe you once and you're fucked, you have no recursion even though for mana value 2 or less you have excellent options like Raise the Past.
If you're in Timmy pods against a bunch of improperly built greed pile decks you'll probably do okay but 99/100 times you're going to fold against properly built decks. Hares aren't possible to build "fair", it's a meme brainless aggro archenemy deck.
>>95935627No the point isnโt to exclude it, itโs to realize they didnโt fucking know what it meant and use something more appropriate.
This isnโt some case of the measurement โpoundโ coming from the Latin libra meaning scale so you canโt say pound in your fantasy language if your fantasy world didnโt have fantasy Romans.
No, Terra means the Earth. The planet we are on. If you want to refer to a different planet, it would be wrong to refer to anything about it as Terra just like it would be wrong to refer to it as fucking Luna or Mars.
You canโt have a โterrasymbioticโ species if they are not from Earth. Just like you wouldnโt call them fucking lunasbiotic if they lived on a moon

>>95934030Rule: no draws. If the game results in a draw, the person who forced the draw is awarded the current lowest place, and the remaining players are awarded position based on things like life total and the total value of pieces on the board and half value for those held in hand.
>>95935754There's a separate custom card thread.
>>95934030The funny think is I agree with you completely in the first half and then you had to go and misuse the word kingmaking
Competitive EDH is a joke because in a 1v1 format rhe only person your mistakes can advantage is your opponent, so despite the randomness of the game you can at least say that superior skill is required to win.
But in a 1v1v1v1 your mistakes might advantage one opponent more than the others, particularly depending on the different decks they are plying, or turn order.
That is a much better argument than your โkingmakingโ shit, feel free to steal it
