Proxy trannies.
I've never had a problem with proxiers before. In the past it's been people who own 1 copy of the card and can't put it in every deck, or proxy something that's perfect for their deck but they can't afford.

So when the proxy trannies asked if proxies were okay I didn't give it a second thought. What I didn't expect was that almost their entire deck was proxies, including the basic lands, and a lot of it was the most busted goodstuff tm they could get their hands on.
They also loved digging up old completely broken land cards no one's ever heard of, knowing that almost no one runs land destruction these days.
I will never fucking play against them again.

Delighted halfling is one of the best dorks. Mirkwood bats is a wincon. Mithril coat is pretty premiere colorless protection. All the fancy mono lands but specifically the white one. Last FNM I had a player play back to back solitare decks: First was a non-deterministic Stella Lee storm deck he took legit 10 minutes to actually storm off on. Then, having gone "I'm sorry guys, that wasn't very interactive" he immediately then played the Manifest dread Zimone and proceeds to Worldly tutor his Ashaya to shit his deck onto the board.

It's not gonna flop, but I don't think it is gonna be a smash hit like FF was. The whole marvel set situation is really fucking weird and I feel like there has been some burned bridged here behind the scenes. Between wotc not really hyping it up like they did with the FF set, the situation with the digital cards, and the lack of dedicated commander product, the whole situation smells of "we're contractually obligated to do this and nothing more." Of course, that is purely on the production side, but from a player side the lack of commander product is just fucking weird, considering how well commander precons sell.
It doesn't help that the marvel stuff is about 3 years too late, as per usual when it comes to wotc chasing trends of course. The hype around marvel shit has absolutely cratered.
Purely anecdotally, nobody at my lgs seems to care about the spiderman set, we had people looking forward to the FF set for months, and the prerelease broke the store's records, comparatively I haven't heard a peep about spiderman, except from the local whale who has already noted they have no intent on buying any spiderman product.

Marvel has its fair share of pay piggies, I know at least a handful locally with mostly unopened $1000+ Marvel Champaions collections. I also think the overlap with magic is a bit more natural, most "LGS"s I knew growing up were just comic shops that also sold magic cards and most of the Magic boomers I know were just completely unaware of most of the characters in this set and had trouble even pronouncing names. I think Spiderman will probably be more successful than FIN just by virtue of coming second, provided EOE doesn't kill all hype in its tracks, but expecting a dip after FIN is totally reasonable. You're nuts if you think it won't be a massive success though.
Besides, if you want to predict a flop, Avatar is right there. Marvel and Final Fantasy are long-running brands with cross-generational appeal and Avatar is a flop of a nickelodeon kids show that's a "cult classic" for developmentally stunted millennials with no reach beyond that.

The product fatigue thing is an actual realistic prediction. The rate of new releases is pretty insane, especially with how much they're expected players to spend on them. Rapid Hybridization, Pongify are very good value 1 drops. Resculpt EXILES a creature OR artifact for 2, and all they get in return is a 4/4 do-nothing. Amphibian Downpour is a staple in absolutely every storm and spellslinger deck. Imprisoned in the Moon is incredible because not only can it hit planeswalkers as well as creatures, but if it's their commander they don't even get to send it back to the command zone it has to sit with their fuckin' lands until they either find land or enchantment destruction which can be a stretch for a lot of decks
