I finally found a wargame club and the only thing they play is 40k baka. I have already read some of the books so I guess I will start an army. I like robots so Im thinking necrons. Combat patrol seems like a decent box. You get 10 of your basic troops, a decent leader, some melee elite, a good vehicle, don't know about scarabs. It's a good way of starting an army.
The game plays on a point system and the minimum is 1000 pts of units. The combat patrol is at 450 points from what I can tell so you can either grab two of it + some other character to reach 1000pts. Or check if anyone plays "Combat Patrol" games, there you don't make a 1000pts but rather grab one combat patrol box and play it against other combat patrol boxes. It's a good way of getting into the game but don't expect much out of it. Ask around if anyone wants to play combat patrol, or even smaller 500 points games as an introduction.

Combat Patrols vary from being rock solid starting boxes you can safely buy dupes of to flesh out an army, to GW just trying to move old stock and barely adhering to their usual composition. Discounts massively vary. The game mode in itself isn't popular in direct contrast to AoS's Spearhead, and you may not even be able to use all the contents in the box (which granted, makes sense for armies like Custodes), and may be forced to use weapon options you may not want.

The Necrons one is decent (and very easy to paint), but if 3D printing isn't also an option, looking around on eBay or whatever might be wise. Regardless, assembling and readying an army is a project in itself.

Well to make it short, they are a worse version of imp footslog.
Can be fun but your opponent hates you moving all these minies, lacking anti tank weapons and speed hurts a lot so you need a few tanks. No melee whatsoever hurts as well so objective play is really hard if you cannot just gun everything down. (and painting them all up is a real pain) but like with imp footslog it has something magical running so many infantery in gunlies, taking position, throwing so many dice, just nice.

I found it helps keep them clean if you don't open the pots all the way. The little lip tends to drip paint into the seal if you pop them fully open. I find it's also important to really make sure that the part of the lid close to the hinge is fully closed before shaking

We don't know what 11th edition will bring, but keep in mind they gutted demons to only be what's currently playable in the cult Codexes (plus Belakor), so that does not bode well for their future. They might last another edition as a joint entity and they might not.
