You could easily say that your guys have their different colored armor because of the Crusade they're on; maybe they're doing their alternate scheme to honor a specific figure, maybe it's to honor an event.
Like you could do red armor and say it's so they all remember when half of the Crusade were lost to a raging inferno halfway through the crusade.

Is getting a unit of terminators or assault terminators a good idea. In the end I would like to have a terminator heavy army, with all characters in terminator armour and three units of regular and assault terminators. I am just not sure, if I want to do it at the of 10th ed and if yes, then which ones to get first. I like the shield and mace ones a lot, but they only melee. The regular have cyclon launchers and can shot at those darn eldar falcons.

The only time I've ever seen paint jobs actually matter at a tournament was when we could use allies and this guy was trying to pass off half of his ultramarines as "actually allied in blood angels."

Would it be possible for a baseline human to be modified to the level of a custodes without actually becoming a custodes?

I want to do a specific kitbash and I have all the pieces in my mind but I don't want to have to buy the pieces that I need and I know that even if I did have those pieces on me and I started to build it it would look like shit because the last 18 kitbashes I've done also looked like shit. No. There are a number of campaign books, codexes, and novels set in Nihilus. You need to go read them.

I never liked this argument, as it's typically used against the three eldar factions who actively fought against Slaanesh's birth. Word Bearers are a bit different from the cult legion for each god because they aren't really debased in the same way. While the cult legions are basically slaves to their deity (whether they admit it or not) the Word Bearers are serving by choice, and in most cases are a lot smarter about it. They still maintain their goal, which is spreading the Word. So in a nutshell, I guess I would say what sets them apart from most of the other legions is "focus."

Until humanity as a whole is worshiping Chaos the same way they do, they have work to do.

It is, The Rock is more likely a reference to the rocky hill that Nottingham Castle sits on.
There's several other places named Rock in Nottingham but these are usually references to Castle Rock, like Rock City, a music venue.

Just like Daemons had their own models and they're now removed from the storefront and legions can only play them in a purposefully weak weak detachment.
The entire problem is that GW has decided they hate models that can be used in different systems. A predator and a "Deimos" predator look almost the identical, no one cares which one you bring to a game and most people won't even be able to tell unless they're marinefags. But one model is newer than the other so the chances of the predator getting put into legends and the model discontinued are very high, so people with predators cannot play them in both systems.

I like the direction you were going, maybe you should try your hand at milliput and see if you like it better? Greenstuff is rubbery, milliput is like clay. Rule of thumb

You can also mix the two. For something like that helmet, I would actually recommend hybrid, then aim to do some of the sharper details after the putty has cured, by cutting and sanding. Greenstuff doesnt sand well after its cured, but you can cut it nicely. Milliput cuts porely after its cured cause its brittle, but it can be carved slowly and sands perfectly.

tldr: try sculpting the rough shape and clean it with the hobby knive and sanding sticks after its dried.

Ive also taken to carving sprue goo in the same way.

on one hand there's the general rule of "play what you like" but at the end of the day, even the most casual game is competitive
I'd start getting an understanding for how each detachment plays
you're not wholly committed to anything yet, so even consider some of the divergent chapters
I will tell you this: get your hands on at least a squad of jump pack intercessors, two is better, and one squad of scouts (you'll have to buy these in 10 so whatever)
these are essential units for every space marine list, they will do literally everything and let you be able to run all the fun shit you ever wanted

In all codexes GW shows almost all Chapters using a variety of alternative company markings despite being Codex compliant. Even Ultramarines are not following the Codex to the letter and paint their knee pads instead of shoulder pads' trim or use company-coded colours for their squad markings.

Grey Hunters -> they hunt down their prey, more subdued than blood claws before jumping in the hunt = tacticals that shoot before charging
Long Fangs -> Old Space Wolves, because their fangs got super long. Old enough to be trusted with bigger and deadlier ranged weapons (why other chapters dont do this, I dont know, but that's not here or there) = devastators
Wolf Guards -> they... guard. Elites who guards the leaders. In power armor or terminator armor.

But that's not true. The difference in size makes them completely different units. That's like saying sentinels can't exist because Knights are a thing. We had both boxnaughts and leviathans/deredeos for a decade and they coexisted just fine.

Sternguard veterans are analogous. I suppose the difference is that the SW great companies operate more or less independent from each other, meaning they don't have any dedicated reserve/fire support companies which devastator squads are usually raised from. Under the codex there's a learning curve for greenhorns to pick up all the necessary skills to assume any role once promoted to a battle company, but in the case of the SW there's more of a sink-or-swim mentality with respect to their blood claws.

In his case it makes perfect sense since it's basically a cryptid name, like Big Foot or Mothman. People simply started referring to him by his most recognizable attribute. Contrast to something like Omegon being named Omegon before he knew he was numerically the last of his brothers and the last primarch to be discovered. Or Corvus Corax who was named Corvus as a child and was only given the cognomen Corax (meaning Savior, not raven, in the local tongue) many decades later after his successful uprising against the despots of his homeworld. And Angron was named Angron before he had any anger issues.

Ferrus Manus is actually the least stupid of these literally descriptive names.

Oh they are definitely going away eventually. I don't know about Horus Heresy getting Mark 7 armor though. They have lots of old patterns they can still exploit for that. Maybe a character in one suit of it, but I don't think they'll go so far as to offer a replacement range for it. There. You can see some Mark 7 armor pieces showing up in some of the Primaris veterans sculpts now though. Which is probably the better way to go about it.
