I think is pretty obvious: The first UB set was already a combination of greed and lazyness but under some really wicked marketing campaign about One Ring they actually made a lot of money even when the set was horrible and twisted.

Then they also asked themselves if Modern whales and retarded EDH faggots will buy this aren't we losing money from the rest of this game? Then what was a thing that made some players, specially casual retards happy and leave the rest of the community to enjoy pure unadultered MTG even if bad become something that every single member of this community had to deal with. And now we are here in the present, with an absurd rythm of 6 products, some products with stupid releases like Spiderman that will have a different release on paper than digital and some absolute irrelevant IPs like ATLA. Everything in UB smells not like something to improve and open the product to more people, but something to scam customers and abuse cardboard addicts and scalpers.

I don't think you get it. They're "outsourcing" the "flavor" so they don't have to spend time or effort coming up with plotlines or characters or even planes. You grab an existing IP, identify its most popular/recognizable standouts, then shoehorn them into Magic mechanics. Best part is that they don't have to *fit*, they just need to be >>95974493 "playable" so the IP holder can justify the Magic set spending as part of their advertising budget. WOTC is turning an expense (paying people for coming up with setting/characters/plot) into profit (getting paid for using existing setting/characters/plot).

This is what's making "6 set releases per year" possible behind the scenes. They don't have to worry about the setting (it's UB), they don't have to worry about design (it's all for Commander anyway), they don't have to worry about power level (everyone will keep buying to grab the latest broken shit). This isn't a test of what you will tolerate; that one you passed over the last 5 years. This is a test of how much you can get milked before the fatigue sets in.

Second Sunrise was from Mirrodin, which is beyond the cutoff. Unlike Replenish, there isn't a card to bring all your dead artifacts back at once. I do recall back in the day Jokulhaups/Obliterate decks used Invasion taplands for color fixing and blowing up the board turn 3/4. Eggs might fit into that gameplan, in theory, due to drawing cards as they explode.

Most "midrange" is just a slightly slower aggro deck these days. Dimir """midrange""" has is very aggressive since the release of Cecil though it's having a harder time than ever against cutter/mice. Many of the newer midrange decks at the same speed as some of the old aggro decks. The Jeskai Oculus in particular is extremely fast, especially if it gets it combos off and can get a turn 4-5 win quite easily.

Pretty much the only decks there that could be said to be true midrange are the Golgari, Monoblack, and Esper decks. Which is only about 3% of the format.

At best you can say "ACKtually aggro is only 77% of the format because 3% of those decks are midrange." Does it change much? No. Format is still 65% just Cutter and Mice. The only other deck see comparable play is Omniscience and it's rate of play is going down and it's less than a third of either Mice or Cutter's rate of play. Standard is dead. It has been killed by Aggro Summer.

A deck that runs a lot of abilities will be relatively unhindered, especially one that can go for the long game. It's a good addition to the game because it hinders aggro. NTA, but I build Nether Spirit + Contamination back in the day. The mana base is probably the issue, half the lands don't make B. My deck back then was Type 1, but still I stuck to 4 Wasteland + 1 Strip Mine, or I couldn't hit BB for Hymn of Tourach. My kill method was just hitting them over the head with the second Nether Spirit (and Cremating one if both died at the same time, but in retrospect Phyrexian Furnace would have been a better call). I also had no kegs and made do with Larry Niven's Disks in the side, where the lone Dark Ritual looks odd.

Yes the low toughness creatures could be killed with say a Lightning Strike but better be sure the amount of damage done either kills the target (as it is done around the same rate) or opponent tries to save it (in the case of those with Prowess triggers) while they spend cards to do so but in that case it is better to just let it go and let them kill the creature instead of using cards to save it. Sorcery speed hurts but a decent trade-off besides you may not always have enough creatures attacking (or you being attacked) to discount a Witchstalker Frenzy. Plus in case of a freshly cast Vivi they'd need to spend 3 noncreature spells or have a well-placed counterspell. Lastly, a fixed 2 mana rate is still fine for example if you swing with Nemesis, it isn't blocked and then you hit your own Nemesis for 5

Meme deck but decently playable. Premodern Eggz wants to find Nantuko Shrine and Helm of Awakening to machine gun through the deck and dump a lethal squirrel army. Enlightened Tutor find both halves but telegraphs to counterspells. Fluctuator Combo is a similar idea but probably a better deck than Eggz

I mean prowess triggers are precisely when you want instant speed interaction to blow them out before they can monstrous rage or pile on pump spells. The 3 instant speed damage from lightning strike is going to be better than 5 sorcery speed damage in 90%+ of prowess matchups.
Say its turn 2 and they plot a slickshot showoff, which would you rather have in hand

And lets face it, if you're on red and the opponent lives long enough to both cast vivi and spells to pump vivi, either they just won the game that same turn or you are going to attack through vivi next turn and win the game. There's no real window where you can untap and kill vivi but not when vivi is at 3-5 toughness, if they tapped out for a 0/3 blocker on turn 3 you just won the game anyway

Honestly better to just run 4x torch the tower, let alone something that can go face

For every game where Dark Ritual is awesome, you have two where it comes off the top of your library and is a dead card in hand. Dark Ritual trades resources for speed and is mostly found in decks that are able to lean into massive speed, like suicide aggro and combo decks. Nether Contamination is a prison deck that wins over time and often after establishing the namesake lockout. Nether Contamination has always been playing a resources game, both with hand rip but also mana denial and card draw. Dark Ritual is trading resources for speed in a deck that wants to win the resources game. It just doesn't make sense here.
