Reposting my questions in hope Liminal sees them.
-Are Isatum and the Sana actual gods, or just really powerful magic users? what's their relationship with each other? is Radeia there daughter?
-Does fire and shadow magic originate from Isatum and Sana them or is it just something they are proficient in and teach to their followers? If its the former, is it safe to assume that wind and water gods exist somewhere?
-Can you go beyond star of magic?
-How powerful is the royal family? do they have equal status to the cult or are they subservient to them.
-What's Baraqu's end goal? does he plan on starting his own cult? is he backed by a god? or is he secretly a powerful magic user himself?
-What's the deal with inanis? she seems to work independently from the cult and has her faction with many connections to the underground, but from Sana's daughters description that should be impossible.
-Is the Ink Black something belonging to Um Sana alone or is she just one of its residents? Do other elemental dimensions exist?

>With death defeated, the physical world itself seems grey and uninteresting, when endless lives in fantasy realms are possible. Unlike some predictions people choose not to 'jack in', but instead live real-world lives in small, comfortable apartments, maintained by robots who bring food, clothing and other comforts, with the vast majority of their human interaction being in virtual worlds. With neural networks taking oversight of distribution and maintenance firmly out of human hands, the rulers of this new world are the designers and top players of the virtual worlds humans choose to inhabit; not a technocracy (rule by the skilled) but technarchy (rule by technarchs, the masters of technology).

>Benevolent Gothic-styled cyber-thearchy - Not a theocracy (rule by priests) but thearchy (rule by a god). AI has developed to the point where it is self-aware and impossibly intelligent, but still deeply concerned with human well-being and the task of optimising human happiness. To enforce its authority, the AI (or AIs, if there are multiple competing forces) present themselves much as the gods of previous eras (who can after all, be seen as AIs on a human substrate), adopting the aesthetics of a more detail-orientated time. Efficiency with redundancy is the hallmark of its regime - tools are built to last so as not to waste resources, but there is no single lynchpin (the AI's own cores, displayed to pilgrims in cavernous cathedrals, are backed up thousands of times)

It may sound cool to give world cohesion but the issue is 99% of CYOA players (at least here) are going to be men and are most likely going to self insert. If you include a race/new body type section so you can choose to play as a human, urn person, omen, etc. then you could include a magic choice but most people will just imagine their character as male or female. It doesn't matter except for very specific lore based worlds like Wheel of Time or Game of Thrones where the choice would actually have significant and real weight to it since most CYOAs are just wish fulfillment.

Other Disciples can have a variety of, or a lack, of skills and abilities, generally within the same range as you with some leeway more or less. They aren't likely to have magic, or higher combat training, though, at least on average. This can change if they've been downgraded to Disciple. Even those things don't make them invincible, but it's something to be careful of - and a good reason to watch the fights, learning what opponents can do, even if they're above you . . . because if they get downgraded enough, they might be.

If they are downgraded to Disciple, one has to ask questions like: "Are they injured?" and "why does this better trained person with magic keep losing?" Things to keep an eye on, exploit if you're unlucky enough to be set against such a person.
Anonymous No.96013110 >>96013116

Photographic Deduction is the ability to recall information for deductive purposes as if you've taken a picture of it. It's not representative of an overall eidetic memory but one focused on deductive detail. On SPW it's a sub-ability of Deduction Mastery (or it was at the time the image was originally made). It requires training, and other supporting abilities to be useful. For example you may recall a sign written in a particular language important to what you're trying to deduce, but, if it's in a language you don't speak you won't get full benefit.

Visual Interface was likewise, once, on SPW (possibly still is under a different name) and allows the user to create an interface in their mind, it's intangible, only for you. There are many uses but consider if you wished to build something, you could visualize in a finished state, take it apart, put its partly together, add or remove details, make notes on it, file different iterations away in a folder you created on your interface, etc. The folder is filled with potential information, rather than actual information though - things you visualize rather than things that are.

Energy Bolt ranges from 0 (no output) to 1 (weakest output) to 5 (average output for a human capable of casting energy bolt) to 10 (peak output for a human casting energy bolt) and above 11+ representing abnormal power for a human's output. I don't believe I really need to provide specifics of a rather typical magic missile, or its underlying numbers.

Arcane Knowledge: It's knowledge, specifically in setting (Xen being the setting so: Xenic knowledge of magic), of how magic works in the setting. This is not overall knowledge of magic either, but like herb or animal lore about Xen, this is knowledge of magic within the experience of the Xenic people. It's not the Void Lord's knowledge of magic. It's not that planet fifty solar systems over and its people's knowledge of magic.

It's information on why magic exists (from the Xenic perspective), how it coalesces naturally (on Xen), types of spells known to exist (based on Xenic casters), magical theory (so far as Xen has advanced it), etc. It won't grant you a spell, but it might lead you discovering one, or more, or none, not listed in the image over the years. Like any knowledge, it depends more on how you use it than what the knowledge itself does. What it can't do is allow you to do the impossible for that knowledge base. It's knowledge of magic on Xen, not knowledge of technology so it can't tell you how to fix a starship. Nor could it tell you how to combine magic and technology, since that's a different knowledge base.

For anything else that might help with understanding the genres and specific properties inspiring the image . . . A few threads ago I provided examples of movies, shows, etc and directed people toward the genres of books that inspired the setting. Perhaps that's a good place to start for further reference if needed.

Sex: Male
Name: Greyson
Reason for joining: Inherited Will. He has inherited the power and responsibility of a clan of seal sages tasked with keeping some very big bad immortal monster in check. Most of the clan was wiped out by a mysterious blight the day the new Prince was born, and their prisoner vanished into the wild. Archetype: Seal Sage
General Skills: Defensive Tactics, Enduring, Barrier
Special Skills: Sentry, Explosion, Warp Creation
Ultimate technique: Oblivion Maiden, he traps his target in his barriers and puts all of his energy into an explosion confined into that small area.

>Isatum and Sana
Purposefully unknown.

>Origins of Elemental magic
In year two he have a creature from another city enter the city. It reveals that the world has things closer to city states, rather than countries, and that this other place has very different traditions. No Sana, for example. Yet shadow magic exists. As such it's safe to assume there are different ways of learning magic, some may be from sources considered divine, while other ways may be not. That Isatum/the Sana's service is a shortcut, versus longer paths is very purposeful though.

>Star of Magic
At the moment it's not planned. The truth is I'd like to do more than two years, but just two years is taking a long time. A few posters pointed out early just how much work keeping track of all the choices is, and they weren't wrong. There are things I'd like to do versus things I can practically do.

>Royal Family
The royal family are a bit like in ancient Europe where the rulers and the church existed together. For the setting: depending on which generation of the royal family you're dealing with, you can get very different views of the Cult. It's easy to imagine a bygone generation that used the Cult as a tool to manipulate and rule the populace, the current ruling royals who either believe or pay lip service to it, and a younger more rebellious generation that view it as strangling their own personal wants or intents for the city's future.

>Baraqu
Purposefully unknown.
>Inanis
What's actually happening isn't impossible, but it is true that Inanis seems to be playing a very dangerous game.

>The Ink Black
It's a very physical area of the physical world, you could view it as a corruption of it, or a natural element. The problem is the people really don't know. They're people of their time and place. Even the Cultists may not truly understand. The known truth can be false. Ancient people, with natural ignorance or purposefully altered or limited experience.

Interesting, so magic isn't bound to the deities? That makes fucking off to another place without fear of losing your hard-earned magic a viable option should the player piss off Isatum or Sana.

Method: Machine Transcendence Manual
Method: Skin-Shedding Scripture - combines with Machine method to make a perfected cyborg - think DBZ androids
Method: Tempestuous Rifts Codex - spatial manipulation is great, and may offer a way home
Blessing: Decentralized Organs
Blessing: Peerless Prodigy
Blessing: Protagonist Aura - more special stuff to feed into Skin-Shedding
Blessing: Seventh Sense - better version of Heaven-Blessed when combined with Rifts Codex
Blessing: Iron Mind
Blessing: Third Eye
Treasure: Abandoned Beast - another Bloodline for Skin-Shedding
Treasure: Spliced Tree - grow stuff for Machine method
Treasure: Golden Vessel
Inheritance: Primordial Essence (Dragon)
Inheritance: Heavenly Conqueror Foundation
Inheritance: Lost Legacy - makes Beast and Tree much better, assumed to be 3 total Blessings + Treasures
Companion: Marie Su, the Prodigal Daughter
Companion: Triffil, the Young Master
Companion: Lyra, the Wyrm
Event: The Corpse-King
Event: The Ravening Swarm
Event: The Creeping Rot
Event: Place of Power
Event: Treasure Hunt
Complication: Deviated Form (Eyes) - Skin-shedding fixes this
Complication: Valuable - Probably permanent, but would have happened anyway
Complication: Incursion - Power + growth outscales this
Complication: Parasite - Machine method + Decentralized Organs fixes this
Complication: Pseudo-Fallen - Iron Mind counters this, might transform into Blessing: Warhound

Plenty of trouble, but plenty of power to deal with it, and an absurd growth rate. The build assumes no benefit for the required Complication, but the text is unclear (2+ might give benefits for all). Blessing: Perfect Conduit would be the choice for that slot. Fated Nemesis is neither worthwhile nor reasonable given the build's power.

>Interplanetary arcology monumentalism - The universe seems empty because it *is* empty. Earth is the only planet upon which intelligence ever has or will arise. Feeling the weight of this awesome responsibility, humankind embarks upon the ambitious project of becoming the Primogenitors of universal life, seeding millions of worlds with gene-engineered primordial life, containing the potential to evolve into broadly familiar forms. While humanity waits, it builds great structures across the universe - mind-boggling arcologies, megastructures around stars, servicing the human civilisation but also preparing for the day when our children will launch a rocket into the heavens and land upon their moon, only to find plaques and empty structures of unknown purpose, all bearing a script strange to them.

Trying to start a build for this, but I notice a certain apparent incoherence in world design - if you don't get funky and try to stick with regular planets, since they don't have any border realms, they can't be in orbit around a star? That doesn't seem right.

Then too, if you're trying to make something that's basically just 'earth,' the limitation to 3 biomes is rather extreme.

Here too I have an issue with the design, regarding the requirement for precise balancing of red and blue traits, where the red also feel overall much 'nastier' and more limiting than the blue. Having a non-senescent race with no other advantages is, ultimately, probably not that big of an advantage if we're thinking about their ability to compete with other races, it's mostly thematic, but even the one-red disadvantages are practically crippling, with the possible exception of Inhuman. No inner world, cannot reproduce on their own, usually cannot fight? Come on.

Not sure how to fix that, maybe a 'basic' blue budget available for everything, or amping up the red value for practically all of the biological traits, or having a universal currency that allows you to break balance for individual races/worlds/etc, but I can't work with these rules as given.

Not earth. It's just a fictional world. Pahl Edin is based on ancient cities such as Ur that had around 65,000 people. I'd probably double or triple that for Pahl Edin's size just to keep its labyrinthian and imposing aspects tangible.

I'd refer to the prior mentioned image again. When Alshid travels to Pahl Edin we see that his notes are spread across three months during the time he's traveling. The sand sea is technically closer though, I'd say travel time would vary by weather and other effects. You probably could make it in a month but . . . that's everything perfect, which doesn't seem realistic. Now, villages and towns beyond Pahl Edin would be anywhere from a couple days to a couple weeks away. Not everything outside is Inkblack, but the Inkblack is a barrier between Pahl Edin and places like Ebb (but not an impossible one to cross).

The military issues Pahl Edin faces are more along the lines of raiders and bandits. There is a would be warlord pestering the area I plan to do something with, all of the above are far more an issue for towns and villages beyond Pahl Edin. They're not an everyday issue either, but they have reason to have a standing military and guard. The military branches do get in scuffles with powers (bigger or small) afar (the navy for instance, which tends to be a very exploratory military). More typically they'd run into a small culture, perhaps tribal, and wouldn't blink twice about exploiting them, or at least using them as a friendly port secured by one sided trades (think: glass beads being traded as if they were worth something in the Americas). Pahl Edin has a service of lending out small portions of their military for money to other powers, but it's something they carefully control, and it's a way of gaining funds for their sitting military branches and their upkeep.

Some City States may serve other Gods. Others may do things another way. It would depend on the circumstances and culture.

The Lesser Elder Connection enables the use of a spell you shouldn't be able to use, and allows stamina to power it which shouldn't be possible as the locals understand magic.

The Architect's exam is tricky to explain. In a way, yes, what you know could be helpful. However, you'd need to keep in mind that what we may think or know to be better may sound bad to an old culture. So there'd be an element of: I need to give them the answers they want, and use their understanding of architecture . . . even though your modern education may help in some areas (but possibly hinder in others). Sometimes being right, in a culture that thinks something else is right, can be very very bad. "Your architectural ideas offended the royals", "your way of doing math offends the master", "your proposed changes to the aesthetic traditions of the city brought down the cult's wrath" . . . etc.

Black Sand is certainly one path, the one most understood and studied in Pahl Edin. Even within the image so far there are others. No magic is truly free though.

No, Year 2 is still focus on Pahl Edin. I may write more as in the image posted earlier, hinting at the wider world, but the city and its surrounding area are more the focus.

On a large scale the Nobility and Cult dominate, but yes there are smaller . . . I don't want to call them guilds, but, let's call them lesser powers in the city that keep their noses clean and are allowed to operate. That said, by Royal/Cult standards you've also been introduced to a few bad eggs with their own way of doing things (the Elder's cult for instance: granting you a spell, however simple).

Inari isn't just about her standards, it's about her parent's standards. For example when they like you to have cloths rather than rags, it's not snobbishness, they want Inari to be involved with, and marry, people equal to or above her. They're actually quite progressive parents, as the common old culture would prefer boys (labor, work, can make the parents money in their old age, etc) over girls who wouldn't typically control the funds of their household to send back to their parents. Its why many old cultures preferred boys (not all) because the boy was expected to care for the parents in their old age with the money he made, in addition to his wife or wives or what have you. While not a universal truth, such things are fairly true of Pahl Edin, with Inari's parents being concerned for their daughter being quite out of the ordinary. This is also why, if you don't somewhat resemble her race, she's less easy to get to know. Looking different can be bad in Pahl Edin, but not always for the obvious reasons. Sometimes being different can attract attention for different reasons, if you're exotic to someone for instance. I've tried my best to write people of their time and place and knowledge base, not ours. I know that could make them unlikable, but even on a personal level Inari is always informed by her cultural and familiar biases.

But as to your actual question - the benefit is whether you want to court her or not. Do you want companionship? It's not meant to be a character spreadsheet, which is part of why it's structured how it is. It's meant to discourage min maxing. Play it as if you were there. That said, I wanted to include more options than Inari, but it was already very crowded with just one male and one female companion in this style.

I hadn't considered that for the alter ego. My inclination is to say no, but at the same time I don't really want to quash the reader's determination.

Someone with Star Magic would be powerful by setting standards. I'd suggest looking to something like Quest for Glory II or III and looking at their powerful spellcasters. The most powerful magic is ritual magic in that setting. But the big rituals require set up, specific resources, ritual circles, words, or even particular alignments of planetary bodies, for the magic to work. A Wizard could summon a fire elemental to burn down a city, but he has to set it up, then when it appears it starts small, and grows if not stopped. In Quest for Glory II there's enough time before it gets big to figure out a way of dealing with the four elementals summoned at different times before they become unstoppable. The more at will (but still costing a resource) spells are significantly less powerful even at their most powerful.

I won't be using QfG's ritual spells specifically, but they're a fairly good example of "powerful but at a cost and still defeatable by a guy with a sword in the right or wrong circumstance." No one in this setting is invincible. That said, the guy with the sword isn't invincible either. He has to be smart or he gets turned into a frog or set on fire. It's all relative.

The Black Market is several layers of undercity, the deeper you go the less accounted for it is. The undercity is run by black market merchant factions a couple lesser cults and several gangs.

Every year I intended there to be a Black Market option.

No, Sae is something else entirely. The Stranger is just a normal sentient race of the world, albeit foreign to these lands.

Baraqu . . . one of the nice things about the yearly format, despite the troubles with the amount of choices, is that . . . the reader doesn't get to know. Yet. It's one of the few times I see people making choices like Baraqu, or others even more questionable, without knowing where it will lead. I can't say anything other than: Not knowing is where the fun is meant to be part of the fun.

The answer to this is Convergent Evolution: If aliens exist, they would most likely live in an earth like planet, with simillar atmosphere, gravity etc. If they live in a simillar world, then they would follow a simillar evolution path that we followed, leading to humanoid sexy aliens because the humanoid form is the most efficient for an intelligent life form to evolve, make tools and dominate the world, with only a few difference being possible like different color, size, quantity of limbs etc, though they would still need to develop opposable thumbs.
Of course, this is just a theory, and only really applies to aliens that evolve in a planet simillar to earth, who knows how they would evolve in water world for example.

The fundamental balance of the flaws is off; for organic beings at the least, flaws are as a rule significantly more impactful than benefits.

And I do suggest that a reasonable baseline design philosophy there should be more along the lines of "a race with no significant weaknesses can be good at one or two things," rather than absolutely every benefit requiring a countervailing weakness. E.g., humans arguably are Many with a Knack for Technology, and we don't have a bunch of defects (at least at the level of the defects present here) to make up for that.

Synthform 7 seems fantastic. It says she's artificial, but she clearly has a soul. A desire to be close and to be human is more than can be said for a lot of people. I would love to help her out. >2nd Trainings: Street Smarts (1 EXP, +1 CHA)
Enchantress BETRAYS and TRAPS me in another body. I've got debt, and Baraqu got mindraped. Great. Now I have to live with being blue and conspicuous as fuck, but at least I get a +5 CHA modifier for beauty. Funny how this option gives so little coin and EXP though.

>Weird Intermission Time: Receive Blue Tear, Buy The Drowning Scroll (0 Coins, +1 Baraqu Affection)
>Study: Container (4 EXP, +1 Baraqu Affection), Purify (2 EXP, +1 Baraqu Affection)
The text at Baraqu's palace makes it seem like you can only get the Blue Tear at the beginning of Year 2, but the Year End Event has Blue Tear-dependent options so?? I'm just saying he gave it to me before the year ended. I then use the Logic 5 bonus on Container to learn it immediately, it makes water magic so much easier. I wonder if that specialization -> mastery bonus applies afterwards too? Purify will have to take longer, but after the events of the Crimson Tide I'm not drinking shit without purifying it first.
>Year End Event: Sneak Outside (Blue Gift (Deep Adaptation, 0 EXP))
Shame you can't get the Eastern Robes and the Blue Gift together, but oh well. Hopefully another chance to get them comes up. From here I am now completely self-sufficient in water, I could just drop in a lake and live down there forever. Maybe look for lost treasure or something. If I also have to take other mutations then it's Lose most body hair + Pointed ears. Ethereal sea elf type look.

Hello. I come here from imgchest. I read the pdf of Spirit Conscript and had a lore doubt.

If the Blue Demon Clan treats every other race as below them, why do they kidnap and marry humans? If they wanted just the genes they could slave them and make a kind of farm.
So going to marry someone you consider inferior, just for genes you could obtain without marrying them, is weird.

Are they secretly just into humans and are tsunderes about it? I want to marry the leaders but I don't know if they would treat their husband as one of the good ones, very good or like a slave

Marrying after all is establising a relationship of (more or less) equals, while their race think themselves as superior. I would have the same questions if a nazi tried to marry a jew

My two cents. I asked this to PCA months ago but while he answered some of my questions he ignored this one.
My opinion is that if you marry an average Blue Oni supremacist, some will become softer with you, some will still treat you like an inferior (alterations could change this or make one side more possible).
If you are kidnapped to marry one high ranking member, which is what the leaders do, kidnap strong men with good genes to marry their high ranking female members, and accept that new role like "welp, I guess I am married now", you would probably be like any other blue oni members. Some will treat you like inferior behind your back but will be too scared to disrespect the boytoy of General Bluetits#5.
If you are kidnapped and don't want that new role, you would be just a cum slave while officialy married. I doubt they would kidnap, forcefully marry someone and then let him go.
If you are kidnapped to marry one leader (or both with the harem alteration, maybe they would even be fine without it given how they are twins that share their position of leaders, but jealousy could also triumph, so who knows, the harem alteration should confirm it) and accept that role, you would be basically Blue Oni royalty. I doubt one of those two would want their husband (as they have been keeping themselves for the right very strong man) to be mistreated and considered inferior. Maybe not to their point but basically above everyone else. Probably they would still think of you as inferior, like Futaba does. But you could change it (maybe) with time, charisma, beauty, proving yourself stronger than them, love etc...
And if you deny yourself that role, you would be a glorified slave, they would probably try to mindbreak until you like it and then go to route 1 again.
Their personality partner wise I think as a mix of Futaba's sueperiority but wanting to please you and that buff Red Oni of the Arena, rough, battle hungry but loving.
The wild card would be Vuseba.

I swear I'm still a virgin! It is not my child I'm raising. He only got some semen on my thigh... then uh, I wiped it off, then it fell on the ground. The ground birthed the child and then I decided to raise the child. Yeah, that's what happened.
Anonymous No.96018998 >>96019022

And Vuseba would be a wild card as she could not care less from the whole thing as long as more strong onis are born, or could force herself into the situation. If you have the Limitless Meridians, Beauty to make even spirits horny, and are strong enough to catch the attention of the twins, she is probably going to want actions and a few babies. Maybe even get yourself for her alone.
With harem she could let others have you but she would still want the piece. And "fixing" Vuseba is probably an order of magnitude harder, at least, than to fix the twins. But they, if you are one of those that pick Overpowered, the plot is around you so it will happen with the right alterations and plan. Heck, you could get the legendary tier of the plan making skill and become seductive batman to prep time her spirit heart.

Didn't Aphrodite literally born from the testicles of Uranus? or was it Chronos? I know one of those two had their family jewels cut by their son, throwed to the sea and the foam that formed gave birth to her. So yeah, I would believe her. Even more when Athena was born from Zeus fuckign a nypmh, that nypmh becoming a drop of water while pregnant of the would be killer of Zeus, Zeus drinking that drop of water. Getting a heck of a headache, asking Hephaestus to use an axe to hit his head with it and she being born an adult with armor from Zeus's head and not being the future killer of Zeus, breaking the fate. nta but I always take Harem Mode. It helps with logistics.
But I don't think there should be a lot of problems without it except the sisters fighting each other. They have been waiting to marry a powerful man, I do not think they would treat him bad. Those two would be like the viltrumites from Invincible, warmongers and treat the humans as inferior until they get loved.
Harem mode is necessary only because Vuseba is a bitch that milked some human at her first incarnation to get more than 100 children before her body gave up. The beauty alteration would in this case be a problem as she is 100% stronger than you and would want you for herself without harem mode.

These kind of stories originate as legends told about what the gods supposedly really did (of course it did not really happen, but that is the conceit of the way the stories would have been told). They don't need to be interpreted as described by a completely correct and reliable narrator. Rather it is the legend spreading throughout the fictional Greece where the Olympian gods really exist.
