>Thread Question:
A) each army has its own unique element, specialties, but also hard limits regarding the available tools in the roster, which forces the theme and gameplay of the army.
B) all armies have as many tools and unit types as possible, and themes and specialisations are left only as something the player can choose to have, or to not have.

Reminder that Cathay battalion boxes, AJ, and Dice are no longer sold out on GW's store:

GW probably overproduced them. Expect them to be given away for at the next Adepticon.

Speaking of dragons, am I correct in this interaction of rules:
>in previous editions maximising the number of models in base contact during a charge was synonymous with maximising the number of models that could effectively attack back at the charging unit
>this was also true in tow when everyone in the frontal rank could attack regardless of how far they were, that is until the recent errata
>now it is possible for something to charge a unit, maximise the number of models in base contact, while also negating some of the attacks that it would have received if it charged the center of the unit
or is the charging unit expected to be placed at the center of the charged unit to maximise not just base contacts, but also overall attacks?

Kinda look on par with some of the metal minatures, so yeah they’re pretty bad.
Anonymous No.96013159

When you say "Recasts" do you mean metal/resin characters, or recasts of plastic regiment sprues? If the latter; where does one typically look for these things? Does anyone actually recast into Plastic or do they just cast full sprues in Resin? I'm already planning on picking up some shit from the German Recaster Man but that's all characters and individual one-off models.

I'd like a few things, but if I could cheaply get some of the Monopose plastic Bret Longbowmen that would be neat. I have about 20-25 of them I'm painting up presently. Despite the mono (Duo I guess) pose nature I really prefer the look of them to the 6th edition plastics.

Additionally: Does anyone know a source of GW 20mm bases? I'm basing my Brets on 20mms (For backwards compatibility. Realistically I shouldnt have bothered but I have like 50 guys on 20s now so I'm keeping going) but I'm starting to run out. I'm having a lot of trouble finding 20s that actually match GW dimensions. (Most have rounded corners and don't match what I have at all.)

An (unfinished) archer and an Ogre unit filler are being posted as a thread tax, critique welcome. Still deciding how to do the bases, maybe snow.

I'm of 2 minds for AoS getting Chorfs.
If they get "Ha'shut Fyre Duradin" that are a new take on them, then I won't mind.
But if they get actual Chaos Dwarfs that have the full Mesopotamian industrial look, I'll be pissed off. Because it will be further proof that AoS is the weaker setting, that it needs to keep leeching off of fantasy, and also because Chorfs are one of my "drop everything" armies and I'll be pissed off that fucking AoS got them and not TOW.

NTA but GW have deliberately structured their business model to make people think like that. If you buy a kit labelled as AoS, even if you use it for Fantasy, the bean counters tick it against the AoS studio's sales and not Fantasy's, thus making them more likely to invest in more AoS rather than TOW for future releases. This isn't identity politics console wars, it's rational self-interest. You can't really blame Fantasy players of all people feeling insecure over this, considering the End Times.

I like that idea. Pretty easy to spin it for either regular dwarfs and chorfs. Regular dwarfs could be grieving widows or house guards (think samurai women during sieges), whereas chorfs could be women seeking to prove themselves and keep their husband's property after his death.
The difference here being one is more spiritual and sentimental, whereas the other material and self-interested. The chorf version could be more heavily armoured and use a hybrid kit, since they're more invested in actually surviving.

>>96015168
I could see that being a good way to flesh out well-off chorfs from poor ones. Poor chorf women that can't have kids basically just get punted into suicide squads I'm order to prove they have worth.

Another option could be combat medics. Sounds weird for the chorfs, but it'd be less about protecting life and more about cost cutting. Merciless chorf women running around the battlefield providing aid or running triage (finishing anyone to broken to heal) with all the care and grace of a butcher. Hell, they could even extort gold or favours from injured chorfs to receive better treatment.

I got my Cathay stuff earlier today. I've built the sentinel up to the legs and I've got some advice for anyone picking it up tomorrow: The instructions are pretty bad and I think make several errors that make the build much more difficult.

Steps 1e and 3e suggest adding the "kneepads" to the the lower leg assembly, when infact the fit is much easier to add them to the upper leg assembly and then combine the upper and lower assemblies.

Steps 1c and 3c suggest adding the rocky calf muscle bits directly to the lower legs, before you attach the outer armour in the subsequent steps, but it's much easier to instead combine the outer armour with the rocky calf muscles, and then attach them to the lower legs.

That's as far as I've got so far, but there are loads of bits, so I anticipate more bad instructions.

Don't pick any of the split deployment scenarios. Your only options should be 'Rivals in the Ruins' (pitched battle), 'Walk in the Fog' (same, but slightly different deployment) and 'Scavengers' (pitched battle, but one team starts in a house). Mordheim's videogame adaptation uses a frankensteined Mordheim/WFRP system, and it inherited the rpg's ganking problem. Learn the mechanics as VC, they're the best faction to hammer home the core gameplay by forcing you to blob up. Under no circumstances play as rats until you're very experienced (completed the story mode as 2 or 3 factions), they will give you bad habits and make learning everything else endless suffering.

exactly, there is no way the AoS chorfs will remotely resemble or be useable as fantasy chorfs, anymore than lumineth or fyreslayers suit fantasy elves or dwarfs. The AoS team avoid fantasy design elements like the plague and always add in a completely new theme like zen buddhism or an element to pull it away from the fantasy designs. I'd be surprised if they even kept so much as bull centaurs or Lammasu even.

they are a lot more stylised and aberrant with twink proportions, deliberate switch ups like skull heads on the steeds and the characters are weird bat centaur abominations. I'll give you the chaff stuff though even there they have differentiated them with more eastern designs that wouldn't fit Old World skeletons and the zombies are all rooty as well.

>chaos undivided
Of all the elements they can change with those, the shields were the most iconic and they changed them. It might not look majorly different but put the aos chaos next to fantasy stuff and it is profoundly different in proportion and some details also even if the same elements are there.

>skaven
they clearly gave up trying to redesign skaven, they recognised that they are too iconic in their current iteration the same with the goblin stuff.

>so most probably also for chorfs
again no, especially because chorfs are a blank design space for them and not an iconic set-in-stone mainline faction like porting skaven or goblins over was. There is no reason to think that shitmar chorfs will resemble fantasy chorfs beyond a few common elements.

blood knights are the only real bust in terms of revamped WHF units, arguably the Varghulf, too. All of the other stuff is a net upgrade to the old miniatures. Nta but I feel like the blood knights, and most of the standard vampire range remains pretty unchanged from whfb to aos. Like yeah the blood knights aren't a perfect 1 to 1 update, but they retain the general ideas behind the sculpt.

Now a better example would be the skeleton part of the range, which going from whfb to aos has gained this semi eastern european, semi bronze age barrows style, as opposed to the more standard gothic medieval style of old fantasy. And then there's the eastern european vampire stuff, but that's all derived from cursed city (and mostly squatted in the new tome ?)

dwarfs were bigger winners when they could buff their infantry to be among the best, now other factions are closer in line to them and usually cheaper in points. The changes to skirmishers also hurts rangers quite a lot and on top of that the Anvil is a lot more vulnerable. While it isn't a nerf they have been caught up by other armies now and if not being worse they certainly won't perform any better in tournaments but we'll see.

>>96018593
State Troops probably gained the most which is important seeing as they are a massive core option. Greatswords also got a flat buff swinging at str6 which gives you another option over cannons for dealing damage to monstrous stuff. In a way their wizards are also even better for their points with the nerf to wizard levels, they are very spammable.

Orcs are crazy OP for matched play. You can plant your 30 brick of Blorcks on the hill and just stack Victory points.
The wyvern warboss is the meanest chud for what that dude gets. For 350 points you get a tripple save, T6, S7, rerolls out the ass and giant charge range. Now that dragons are capped at 500 points he just crushed them or keeps them in check easily.

Frenzy changes also buffed Boar boys. With a bsb for the frenzy banner, big uns and banner of butchery you get 30 Strength 6 attacks on the charge with a frontage of 6 boys.

Infantry also got infinitely better which benefits the already good gobbos and orcs. Right now you want to run 750 points of core.

I donβ€˜t want to sound too much like a fag but I one of the highest O&G and I can tell you that they won harder than every faction besides empire and Vamps.

How the fuck did a 17 year old kid design this thing in a week. And a busy one involving both his parents getting brutally murdered in front of him week as well.

Hey guys, just got some 2nd Ed Bloodletter models, and its made me wanna start a Realms of Chaos inspired army.

Any tips on resources for painting in the Oldhammer style? Can't seem to find anything myself.

One thing I'm disapointed about with Cathay is there's no AoI to represent these scheming human lords with their own armies, hell there's no option to take a non-dragonblooded wizard.

Yeah but Gunpla (even the very old and cheap ones) are extremely well engineered and go together like a dream, even newer GW kits are often a nonsensical 3D jigsaw pile of shit
