I recently started including a package of goblins in all of my decks. Matron, Cratermaker, Treasure Nabber, Shusher, Engineer, Murdurous Redcap, Chirurgeon, Settler and more. They're not the always the best options but they're reliable. Just about the only thing goblins can't help against is enchantments. But there are a few changelings that can and, being technically goblins, Matron can tutor them. Whenever building a deck you should always ask the question, "what can goblins do for my deck?" You'd be surprised what a small goblin package can offer a deck.

Goodstuff in this context doesn't literally mean the best cards in the format, I also referred to it as "cardsIlike.dec".
It just means a pile of 99 cards that stand on their own merit and don't necessarily synergize with your commander or require that it be in play to be functional. This is how most people built EDH decks a decade ago. We could both sit down with Sen Triplets decks with completely different 99s, the same can't be said for something like Kadena.

I don't really play MTG much, but I won yesterday in a 6-player commander using mostly the FF14 precon deck (with a few creatures swapped out for other FF singles like Venat, Zenos and Summon Bahamut and a few artifacts swapped out for better ones that trigger Y'shtola's abilities). The two people with the sweatiest decks killed each other off the bat and one guy with an Oloro Ageless Ascetic deck kept losing all his shit to exiles and boardwipes as well as getting his approach of the second sun milled out and despite have 120-something life died to 21 commander damage. Guy with the goblin deck folded because he was so tired of getting board wiped and it was just me swinging at someone with a goblin deck with a bunch of shit that had flying and Hydaelyn was giving Y'shtola indestructible as well as life link from dancer's chakrams. The match took like 3 hours because of all the board wipes

I've absolutely considered Sisters of Stone Death before, but yeah the 8cmc for the effect is too painful to manage without every bit of fast mana in the game and two opponents playing mana flare. I built Zidane and he surprised me. His first effect is fine but his secondary effect generates so many treasures if you build your deck right. I packed it with as many Slicer-like effects, Humble Defector, and have a lot of goad/combat trick stuff to keep the feel of Zidane being a trickster. It can close games with a classic Insurrection or a giant X-Spell.

Honestly the issue with Battles is that they outright aren't even printing them. Imagine a modern released set where they excluded an entire card type like Enchantments, Sorceries, or Instants (this is obviously divergent from the few times they tried with those types of limitations before) and even making Sieges in Tarkir and not making them battles that flip into the enchantments or something.
