>WW1 with demons
>"mudcore" aesthetics
>no flashy colors
I get the artists try to portray a dark setting that reflects the dirty of WW1, but would be bad to add some flashy colors?
Every pre-modern army had colorful uniforms and armors, or it would be a copy 40k Emperor's Children?

Aside from the aesthetic part, does trench warfare make sense with all the old technology out there? Is it possible?

The online Trench Crusade community is incredibly obnoxious.
They've made this small indie game their personality and identity and lash out at anyone who dares even honestly criticize it with Trench Crusade's best intentions in mind.
Watch it happen if this thread takes off.
I'll be proven right.

The game is proxy friendly.
This means you can make print anything and as long as it fits a "theme" then its fine and most people in the community would be fine with it as in the end its just a fun simple game.
The only ones lashing out are those who are in dire need of help.
Hell i am proxying totally not khorne hot babes as court of seven headed serpent and everyone i play against are fine with it because im actually playing with and painting my miniatures. (once im done with my current faction im gonna do a heretic boarding party warband vampire themed and a black grail army rat themed.)
One more thing to remember about trench crusade. Its not real, its a fun what if setting with things that dont make sense. Ignore 99% of the online community and just enjoy what you like about the setting...
also to fully answer your question. to be honest i don't know why theres a strong "trench" theme. theres a lot of things in this setting that kinda just ignore trenches. For me i get more of a feel of skirmishes in depot areas or ruined villages and the like. Still enjoy the game, its brought me out of a 2 year long hobby block.

Yeah that's not true at all. I'm in their Discord server and they've been nothing but chill and extremely welcoming. Stop getting your info from Arch, who just has an axe to grind against the game since he got banned from the Discord for trying to turn it into another culture war battleground. Before he got banned, he loved the game and sang its praises, but now he just shits on it every chance he gets because he's a whiny little baby who can't handle being banned.

>Yeah that's not true at all.
It is true in the case of Trenchers here on this website.
I know a large number of them are the same Discord users just going as the kids say "mask off" and being their true obnoxious selves.
I'm in the Discord too and the last time I checked the public general they were talking about chuds. Maybe I logged in at a bad time but I don't know why I'm still in it.
Part of me hopes that the LGS community will not be as obnoxious as the Trench community here on /tg/. But Murphy's Law is almost always right these days.
I don't watch Arch. I just find him funny how he makes so many people seethe just by existing and how many heads he has conquered.
I don't like Warhammer 40k either.

I just know that what I said in the post is correct. And again if this thread takes off I will be proven right.

Heretics have naval superiority in the Atlantic ocean, the Mediterranean Sea seems to be a little more touch-and-go. New Antioch's tithes would be extremely well protected, and might also be air-delivered as well. They might island hop from the Papal States through Greece and Cyprus to make it easier.

Hell, maybe that Church space program allows them to drop supplies from lower orbit. That would be cool.

I doubt the church is planning to bug out of Earth, since God made Earth for them. They probably want to built a massive fucking cannon to blast the gates of Hell shut. But I do find the churches ascent into space to be fittingly thematic as well. Like the demonicly inspired tech of the forces of hell have driven them lower down, literally into the earth and beneath the waves, while the forces of heaven has ascended them higher than hell can aspire. It's neat.

>I get the artists try to portray a dark setting that reflects the dirty of WW1, but would be bad to add some flashy colors?
Trenchtards already pointed out that there is some colour in the setting, but the entire thing is meant to be one of those exercises in excessive grimdark for edginess' sake, saking the black-and-white art of later 40k as a start off point.
I sometimes genuinely wonder whether it's some kind of modern thing with American men refusing to wear any kind of colourful clothing, and eschewing anything with colour thanks to that - see the general rise of mudcore among that people in this hobby space.

>does trench warfare make sense
The basic premise of this setting does not make sense whatsoever, and if it is even meant to represent basic concepts of Christianity then it's representing them incredibly poorly. At the most it's very American-style gnosticism that is popular over among their evangelicals.

The cardinals like in >>96076690 look kino though, but you can also have a cardinal general in a regular Fantasy or renaissance setting that isn't depressive edgeslop.

It's currently fought to a stalemate. Despite having less territory, Hell contains a 1/3rd of mankind. What this map doesn't show, also is the losses and gains throughout history. Like, at one point, Ireland was conquered by Hell, and the forces of Hell fought all the way into the heart of France during the Late Middle Ages before being turned back. Plus, it's a map of front lines. It doesn't map insurgencies/cells of Hell that exist within nations.

Nah, the war is just getting started. For humans it has raged for 800 years which is a long time to us, but the lore says for immortal beings like angels and demons, they still consider the war to be in the opening phases and what's going on on Earth are just the initial skirmishes. That means both Heaven and Hell haven't really even mobilized their full forces yet and are just largely letting their human followers duke it out right now.

>Weird that Antioch is still held
Antioch fell in 1545, and Byzantium thereafter but sometime before 1573. They recaptured the Antioch ruins in 1559 and started to rebuilt it as New Anitoch due to it being the first bulwark against the forces of hell and thus symbolic. It isn't a last stand, it was the first organized stand against hell (by Christians, anyway). The armies that sacked Turkey were slaughtered in the forests of Wallachia in 1573. New Antioch's walls weren't complete until 1595, but Hell likely didn't have the manpower to recapture it regardless. It was still medieval, at this point in time, so armies need to travel slowly.

>Also how come there isn't a demonic invasion in Ukraine?
Because there black sea is in between them and the forces of hell, and that need to be conquered first. Maybe there has, we don't know every single event. That map only shows the current day of the setting. Like everyone else, though, it has at least suffered through the Corpse Wars since that affected everyone, and probably endless uprisings/raids.

>War has never left this corner of the world. The ancient city of Antioch was destroyed by a mysterious demonic weapon in the year 1545, but the Faithful never gave up their positions in the ruins. Despite the lethal demonic essence emanating from the crater that was left behind, the garrison held on, even as mighty Constantinople fell to the legions of Kimaris, Marquis of Hell.
>Before it was destroyed, the ancient city of Antioch was always the first line of defence to be put to test. Thus it is no wonder that in the year 1559 the Sword Congress of Vienna agreed to rebuild and fortify the city, and that a yearly tithe is to be sent to New Antioch by all the Faithful nations, though this levy is rarely in the form of coin. Instead, endless supply trains of foodstuffs, tools, ammunition, weaponry, machinery and skilled workers and engineers come from across Europa and the Mediterranean Sea, as well as the African dominions.

Please put aside the culture war stuff for a second and actually reflect on your thoughts and feelings.

How can you listen to a person talk in a fake voice, especially a type of fake voice that is associated with being faggy, wimpy, soft, molestor-y, etc. and take them seriously?

I don't care if someone cured cancer, if they deigned to speak like that I still could not respect them or voluntarily listen to them.

It's like you're conducting a self-humiliation ritual.

Because the setting isnt historical, its just using a historical event (or several) and historical inspired aesthetics as seen through the lens of the european memetic perception.

WW1 in the european cultural eye is brown dirty soldiers fighting miserable and pointless warfare in a wet hole in the ground in perpetuity, it is the senseless waste of lives by uncaring and borderline malicious commanders and basically 40k tier "pointless grimdark". The brave and the many being sent into the meat grinder to serve the whims of corrupt and isolated bureocrats and nobles.

You can argue this perception is not accurate to historical fact, but that doesent change the fact that blackadder goes forth has a much stronger grip on the perception of ww1 than your historical example of what uniforms looked like.

>does trench warfare make sense
Sure? Its a technological pastiche and some elements are more or less advanced than irl (also magic) but trench warfare is a fairly safe bet for "ways warfare can happen", it still happens irl right now and will probably continue to happen for a long time afterwards. It only didnt happen irl sooner because artillery and personal weapons werent quite good enough quite yet, but even then infantry were engaging in sniping contests between trenches during siege battles for a long time prior to that.

anon, you're in a fucking multi post arguement about arch, you brought him up apropo of nothing.
anyone saying you have an unreasonable concern with him is his fan some how.
i don't like arch, but i am a data driven autist.
arch in 1 year has produced 5 videos on trench crusade, all of them appear to be his slop channel's LOOK AT THIS CONTROVERSY ON TWITTER responses, though one seems to the product of TC including him in a presentation.

I don't generally consider this overly focused, but i do know retards here will mention arch out of no where. he's a boogieman rather than being the fat mushmouthed retard that he actually is.
perhaps you could scrape the discord, see how many times he might have been mentioned (or alluded to) and divide it by active posters that will give us a sentiment.
it's definitely not solid because we need to know the rules formal and informal and see how many times it was deleted but it does reduce labour.

Here's the thing: Warzone kind of sucks lorewise. There was the TTRPG (Mutant Chronicles) and the boardgame (Siege of the Citadel) and other spinoffs besides. And they all explore different times and periods of the setting.

Short version: humanity takes to the solar system after depleting most of Earth's resources, builds colonies on the planets as a handful of megacorps replace governments, wakes up alien space demons on Pluto, they spread throughout the system causing problems, a mystical group of monks rises up and keeps the demons in check, and then there's war between the megacorps which eventually wake up the demons and they join in.

It'd be fine in and of itself, but it exists in the shadow of W40k, and W40k honestly has more and better lore. But it comes down to taste really; I don't like a bunch of human megacorps versus space Necromancers as my faction choices.

I will say though, that the MC TTRPG handles a certain "street level cyberpunk horror noir in the not too distant future" a bit better than any W40k TTRPG simply because that's MC's sole focus. You want lore, the TTRPG is well worth checking out.
