>Previous Thread:>>96087247 >Thread Question:What sort of stories in the lore would you like to see featuring your favorite faction?
>>96087247 (OP)
I just finished reading dawn of fire: the silent king.
While I like that It neatly connects all of Haley's plots from the previous books I think it shows what I would call a disjunction in whatever body GW uses to write the lore.
It annoys me how the "major" plots of the setting keep jumping about with not rhyme or reason and the timeline keeps shifting.
Haley started off the new 8th edition era with the dark imperium books, set 112 years after the fall of cadia, but they then retconned it to 12 years later in the Dawn of Fire series.
The fight against chaos then gets sidelined in the 9th edition when the necrons get introduced, which gets sidelined again in favour of the Tyranids in the 10th.
Now the storyline is back to fighting the necrons and leading directly into the dark imperium novels.
The novel Belisarius Cawl: the great work again fucks it up since it occurs after the dark imperium books(but before the trilogy was finished) with Cawl fidgeting with necron shit again.
All these novels and plot points must have been written far in advance of their release so why the fuck is it so schizophrenic? I'm not even sure now where the blood angels and Lion/Vashtorr plotline fits into this
Wouldn't it be better to release dawn of fire with the release of the 8th, explaining how the indomitus crusade started, and the trouble with the necrons, then release dark imperium when indomitus ends, THEN go with the release of 10th and the new war against the Tyranids?

>>96091286>reposting this slop
>>96091303I didn't get satisfactory responses the last time so you get to read it again fag
>>96091286Black library has always been disjointed because it's a bunch of different authors. That's why people say to consult codex lore because it tend to be more consistent
>>96091315That's because nobody, including gw, gives a shit about BL

>>96091286no one cares

>>96091327As I've said in the last thread even game fluff is disjointed by the strange release schedule
What interests me the most is that we know for a fact that models created long before they are actually released and so is the plotline.
So why the fuck is it still so disjointed?
>>96091238 (OP)>>Thread Question:>What sort of stories in the lore would you like to see featuring your favorite faction?what kind of retarded question is that? It makes zero sense.
>>96091238 (OP)>Thread Question:What sort of stories in the lore would you like to see featuring your favorite faction?Literally anything would be cool. Preferably something where they lose horrifically again

>>96091447You didn't kill him the right way so he still gets to respawn. If you want him permagone you gotta do him in right.
>>96091513and even if you do it right Slaanesh just says fuck it and brings him back anyways because he's a named chaos character with a miniature which means there's literally zero stakes whenever he is involved because you know he's gonna respawn
>>96091542so keep him inprissoned and in stasis
>>96091542>even if you do it right Slaanesh just says fuck it and brings him backWell no because then they'd have been mistaken. If it didn't work it's because it wasn't done right. The proof is in the pudding.
>>96091286>>96091286>The fight against chaos then gets sidelined in the 9th edition when the necrons get introduced, which gets sidelined again in favour of the Tyranids in the 10th.It wasn't sidelined, you idiot.
The Necrons starred in the start of 9th ED but they were cast aside very fast with the majority of campaign books focusing on Chaos and 9th ED ending with Arks of Omen which was a Chaos fest. Necrons didn't get much content in 9th ed past the start of the edition.
It's the same again with the Tyranids. They starred in the start of 10th edition but then disappeared, with Chaos being the focus again.
>Now the storyline is back to fighting the necrons and leading directly into the dark imperium novels.Oh god. The fucking novel was filler. It's outcome was revealed months ago in a small paragraph in "Crusade: Pariah Nexus".
>I'm not even sure now where the blood angels and Lion/Vashtorr plotline fits into thisDoB happens shortly after the Plague Wars. Arks of Omen happens during and slightly after the Plague Wars.
>Wouldn't it be better to release dawn of fire with the release of the 8th, explaining how the indomitus crusade started, and the trouble with the necrons, then release dark imperium when indomitus ends, THEN go with the release of 10th and the new war against the Tyranids?Idiot, GW reversed their plans for the setting that they set in place in 8th ed.
The original plan was to create a timeline of roughly 100 years between the Fall of Cadia and the end of the Plague Wars, then fill it with events and releases. GW realized that it was a shit way of doing things since it killed all the hype so they rewrote the setting to be just a decade or so after the Fall of Cadia and adopted the dynamic storytelling of AoS for 40K.
>>96091327>>96091371Dawn of Fire was a joint project between GW Studio and BL.

Deathwatch getting their index back was nice of GW, and its sad Harles didnt get that. But Eldar as a whole is one of the pillars of GW while Deathwatch has one of the lowest playrates of any marine faction and they filter new hobbyists by being twice as expensive because you cant make marines deathwatch without the upgrade sprue (and normies dont buy bulk recasts of it to make hobbying easier)

It's impossible to have a widely accepted homebrew because people will just go "Well if it doesn't have my favorite unit in it the what's the point" or will go "this ruleset doesn't have my favorite unit in it, I'm just going to make my own ruleset instead.

How are Custodes doing in 10e? What are the big winners and loser among their units?
I got a Battleforce box and a Combat Patrol box ages ago but I finally have time to start working on them. It means I have:
>1x Shield-Captain (the ugly one)
>5x Custodian Guards
>5x Custodian Wardens
>6x Allarus Custodians
>9x Vertus Praetors
>10x Sisters of Silence
>1x extra Contemptor Dreadnought
>1x extra Rhino
It seems that I have all Custodes plastic kits beside Trajann Valoris and a Blade Champion. Is the spread good for building a decent list? Should I actually get rid of 3 Vertus Praetors and buy a Trajann or more Custodian Guard perhaps? Fielding more than 6 bikes feels crazy, I still remember them being game-breaking years ago.
>>96093959I remember the custodians here saying they're tough to run without relying on forgeworld tanks

>>96095487we most likely live on other sides of the world
>>96095445Yeah it's a full-kit, the sprue has multiples of everything. For a unit of 10, you can have two heavy weapons (Mining Laser, Seismic Cannon, Heavy Stubber), two special weapons (grenade launcher, webber, flamer), 1 cult icon to revive dead models, and the rest with autoguns. You can only have one of each weapon so there's that. You used to be able to field 4 mining lasers in a unit of 20, now I run 2 mining lasers, 2 seismic, 2 webbers, 2 grenade launchers.
Some people take Heavy Stubber instead of a mining laser to wipe out infantry, because you can have 6 attacks with sustained hits and lethal hits and critting on 5+ and it adds up quickly but I lack anti-tank so decided to use Mining Laser. The 12 autoguns with 24 attacks do a lot already. I built the leader with small webber and power weapon because I like it's look but if you're going for min-maxing, give him an autogun.

What's the reasoning here
were they finding that building and painting a vehicle was too much of an ask for new players?
Did market research find that less combat partrols were fully finished when a tank was present in the kit and new players gave up too quickly
Did they find it easier to balance infantry only lists for combat patrol games
Is it too much of a revenue loss to include vehicles in Combat Patrol Boxes
Will the combat patrol boxes centre around a new gamemode that's infantry only
>>96094261I agree, some kits like the old Leman Russ are just ugly as shit, we have the Horus Heresy update but obviously it's not the same
>>96095761Vehicles are strong this edition. Promoting Combat Patrols means GW can then encourage new players to buy vehicles afterwards for EXTRA money.
>>96095761>What's the reasoning hereThe aim is to create an alternative game mode where the combat patrols are fine being pitched against one another and removing vehicles makes it easier to make the various sides not skewed due to points and/or the necessity of antitank weapons in the box
>>96095411>It shouldn't be hard to realize that it would be dead.Which speaks a lot about current state of 40k and GW's ability to handle it.

>>96095716nta but Deathwatch is made up of veterans from other chapters. So you can make each individual marine from a different chapter. So yes, they are Deathwatch but you can include your favorite chapters in the army.
>>96095606Host of Ascension detachment gives you ignores cover and sustained hits one when you come from strategic reserves, and everything except for vehicles have deep strike army wide. You get a Primus, which gives full rerolls to hit and give him Chink in their Armor enhancement for giving his unit Lethal Hits when they come from reserves. You pair that up with Primed and Readied strategem, go crit on 5+. Now you have a big unit of 20 neophyes with lethal hits and sustained hits 1, full rerolls and ignores cover. You hit a target with a Ridgerunner to give your Neophytes AP1, and they just slaughter shit. If your opponent shoots at them, you can put the remaining models in strategic reserves again to repeat the same stuff. The cult icon to bring dead models back work when the unit is in reserves so you can bring up to 3 models while in reserves as well.
That being said they're expensive for a unit of 65pts, a slog to paint because even your most basic guy is full of details that have no easy means of painting. I've seen 2000pts lists that run 80 or more of them so good luck. I painted 40 of them and I'm done, and I have 30 more on sprue.

>>96095761Since Combat Patrol is supposed to be a game mode as well, vehicles are very hard to balance at the sub 500 points cost. The Death Guard got a Rhino in thereโs though.
>>96095784I know, it doesn't count
>>96095870marines are just as silly in the hands of the vast majority of marine fans as they are in promo pictures, you're suffering from a severe cognitive dissonance when it comes to what marines actually look like
>>96095411It would be more WHFB where all the big armor people are Chaos. Basically, the Imperium is all IG and comparable, all Marines turned to Chaos and are the Chaos Warriors equivalent.
>>96095894Short answer: No
Long answer: No, it does not.
>>96095901luckily you aren't an authority on anything, as you own no models.
>>96095931luck is not in your side then
>>96095832The Magus not having a psychic shooting attack is one of the weirdest decisions in all of 10th, especially as they did have good offensive psychic powers in 9th to draw on.
>>96095955Come back when you've practiced English a bit more.
>>96095832When is GW refreshing the Fatriarch and his pimpmobile?
>>96095930>Chains in the wind>Obvious skull of a khornate character>Old Kharne Model was a guy in constant movement>With chains in the wind
>>96095969>says the projecting esl
>>96095985Ah, yes, because chains and skulls could never be found on any other model in the history of warhammer.
>>96095995Not that anon, but those spiked balls and skull ornaments at the end of the chain are similar to what Kharne has. Iโd say Kharne is a safe bet, heโs due for a refresh as well, though thatโs assuming those chains Kharne has arenโt shared by any other Khorne faction.
holy shit what a stupid fucking ruling
then rewrite Reinforcements to always pass battleshock tests
Make it so battleshock is removed when a unit is destroyed
>>96096033>being battleshocked should affect my unit because reasonssounds like you are a faggot anon
>>96096054wtf you talkin bout bitch
>>96095957>demo charges down to str9>neophyte lasers down to str10>new psyker model with s12 mind-blastJust buff Magus already, I will not spend any money on Benefictus out of spite
>>96095681IH need some new successors, the four pictured there have been around since before Salamanders started wearing green.
>>96096018>heโs due for a refresh as wellnot really, he's already in the updated scale, design cues and in plastic
>>96096116>pre-primaris model >looks out of scale with everything else in the WE rangeHe doesnโt even have a tactical rockโฆ.
>>96095681>black dragons>unknownThey said in a warcom article that they are Salamander successors.
>>96096113Make up your own if you need it. Almost nobody cares for IH, they are boring.
Im excited for the reveals so I get to bitch and moan on /tg/ about it with other anons and also read and reply to their bitching and moaning. Complaining is fun
>>96096212What are you hoping to see revealed that will have the most frothing rabid response?
>>96096212Thatโs kind of sad
>>96096167>>looks out of scalethat's not true in the slightest
>>96094963its very boring and tedious and they dont explain the mechanics very well if at all
>>96096224Not that anon, but I think only Pity Characters would be the thing that makes people mad.
>>96096212jokes on you bitch, im going to be happy about whatever is revealed and I'm going to praise how good the models look unless they are Coteaz-tier bad, even I cant defend that
>>96096212The deathwatch pauldron goes on the other side when the marine is back at his chapter.
>>96096224It's more about what won't be revealed...
>no new marine codex or supplements>really embarassing chaos model or sculpt>getting the deldar refresh guy to keep his meme until the middle of the next edition with nothing substantial aside from a pity model>none of the stupid hats meaning anything>the only ones getting a significant are votann as we hear someone shrieking "DESTINYYYYYY!!!!" over the horizon the same way everyone heard the 13th Black Crusade was coming

WHAT WERE THEY THINKING
>>96095467wots dis? an apocalypse game in the year 2020+
Should I: Do a Jackhal heavy World Eater army? Or do a Xenocreed army as a kinda counts-as chaos cult(Marauders are Acolytes, Traitor guard as neophytes, etc). I just want a horde of melee 'humans' and a few tanks I can put corpses on. I lean towards WE as I like putting a few daemon princes in there and can grab a few 'mutants' from AoS to counts-as helbrutes
>>96096266>Sanguinary Guard tier refresh for every remaining release Imagine
>>96096224Assault Terminator refresh but split into 2 kits and the TH/SS one is a 3 man datasheet.
I feel like every named character model should be stupid detailed. Like the Primarchs should be baseline for like, named lieutenants.
>>96095681>Exorcists are an IF successor chapterI will never not be mad about this
>>96096305Primarchs can only get away with it because they're so big. Smaller models have to be less finely detailed by necessity.
>>96096238His proportions are much more englarged than normal because models weren't printed in truescale just yet
>>96095839Thanks gods, eldars are not idiots that much to turned their craftworlds into London
