I sorta really like the new Votann stuff. If I didn't already have a space marine army I'd pick them up.
They just seem too similar if/when the models are lined up.

Muhreens stuff is a mixed bag since I don't run those chapters. They all look good for what it's worth.
IF combat patrol is looking a bit appealing as I don't have company heroes yet.
The grav bike looks cool and I hope we see an outrider alternative kit out- while the idea of the outriders is cool, their primaris iteration has like 0 clearance and would be useless in most practical use cases compared to a speeder.

I reallllllly hope the damn death watch shoulder pads aren't set in stone with 10 already specifically chosen chapters so I get to pick some niche but not really chapters like the krakens or mantis warriors.
Im glad GW realised that ironkin are the only appealing thing about the Votann at all and are going towards that direction, still no squad fortress or tanks but GW seems very opposed to gigantic centerpiece models these days so it's no biggie.
I knew my faction would get nothing and only got anything out of technicality but im glad raven guard, white scars and iron hands got their models due to being underrated legions. Hopefully GW realises these legions aren't unpopular because they are unlike but they're unpopular because they're not pushed as hard or have ranges as big as the big 4, you know the 4 ones that have funko pops.

Yes, the design parallels between ironkin and kastelans is deliberate, to evoke lost technology of the DAoT. Too bad these guys are much smaller than Kastelans, but it leaves the door open for yet another ironkin unit which is their dreadnought equivalent and a cooler robot than anything Ad Mech gets to field. My issue with the Votann release is that they didn't do a good job of filling holes in the army. We got another melee Kahl with no melee Hearthkyn to attach it to, some big robots that look cool but fill the same niche as Thunderkyn and Einhyr Hearthguard, a literal buffbot, and a Necromunda squat hanger-on that looks like a worse Iron-master. The land speeder, land speeder storm and mole mortars are cool but I was hoping for Hearthkyn with jump packs, a bike Grimnyr, and a dreadnought.

Also, how much you wanna bet people take the Squat Trikes from Necromunda and using them as counts-as for the heavy weapon Land Speeder? It's not like Fly is useful in 10th anyways.

They take very well to dry brushing. Lots and lots of edges. You don't have to do the vibrant edge highlight meme if you don't want to, although it does look good on them.
The vehicles are a bitch to paint without an airbrush but still totally possible if you don't mind some very flat panel colors.

the infantry is simple enough to paint without an airbrush, especially the coven stuff. The kabalites are easy too, the cults are mostly a pain due to the exposed skin but ultimately not that bad.

Airbrushing definitely makes the boats easier but I did mine with a rattlecan and the rest by hand.

From the 4e codex on it was merely the last known example of its type, and even then it was brought into question as DA kept repairing it no matter how busted it got. In the fluff there were plenty of grav vehicle, even civilian bikes.

The difference is that just because you can take a jet engine and put some grav plates to it (considering all Imperial flyers are VTOL, ship got artificial gravity, servo-skulls and grav-chutes are common, etc., grav tech isn't unknown) on it to make it hover doesn't mean it'd make a great military vehicle. Don't think South American drug cartels are somehow better than most of the world's navies just because they figured out how to make submarines to transport drugs.

Lysander has been around forever, and Hestan and Kor'sarro have been around a long time in the lore too. I think most people might actually use first party lieutenants as is because of how often they're included in bundles. I think more people convert captains then convert lieutenants. If you've bought two-three bundles for space marines then you probably have 1-2 lieutenants kicking around somewhere.
