sorry. "Helsmiths", and just the mk2 assault marines.
Is there a way to get more Apex detachments?

>>96128145Not currently, but the way it's phrased makes it seem like you later will.
The marines prime advantages generally feel unimportant though so unsure what it matters.
>>96128171Correct. Just a Cool 10 dude and his homies. No Litanies of Hate anymore. They mellowed out so now it's just calm ASMR to stop statuses.
>>96128171They're the Coolest HQ.

Observation: The changes to liber cata and tart are indicative of new box options.
Projection: There will be a terminator command upgrade that can fit both cata and tart, just like the normal command upgrade was designed for mk 3 and mk6
>>96128226It's still 80pts. for Cool 10 power maul guy when there's plenty of Cool 9 HQs that have more options and extra rules for a little bit more.
>>96128117 (OP)Was thinking about getting some MkII Assault marines to kitbash, but I kinda want to see what they look like from the back first. The only previewed sets of 3.0 that I'm even interested in are the assault and breacher squads. I hear terminators are probably going to get a scale update, but I just can't bring myself to care about chasing even more terminators.
I'm not so convinced statuses are going to matter much.

>>96128265It's going to be like 40k where it's not such a big deal but once you've got something that's forcing checks constantly and/or giving debuffs to a specific check it's gonna be a big fucking deal.
>>96128264Is that a fucking graviton mace in the upgrade kit right after they got rid of the option for IW? What kind of dartboard decision making is going on at GW?
so whats the new tier list you guys think?
>>96128278Yeah I don't know how to feel about having an entire squad with those bigass chainaxes. I do have a bunch of regular chainswords left over from other stuff, plus a box of melee weapon upgrades to swap them out with.
But I generally like the bulkiness of the model itself. Has a nice brutal vibe to it that the MkVI ones lack.
>>96128278The axes in the nuBerserker kit are also bad, the only good axes are in the WE cultist kit.
>>96128285its a power maul
>>96128285>Every Space Marine can be equipped with a chainaxe and bolt pistol, while the kit also includes optional combat shields which can be swapped out for the pistols. On top of that, there are two each of the following weapons: power mauls, heavy chainaxes, volkite serpenta, disintegrator pistols and melta bombs, along with a variety of other grenades, holsters and pouches.Nah, it's just a regular power maul. Really need to see different paint schemes for these guys.

Im retarded and I tried using the search function on the rulebook and liber pdf's but what does the Shield Trait do on Comabt/ Boarding Shields?
>>96128336Maybe. Given the scale of 40k terminators, he's probably fuckhueg compared to regular HH marines. Might depend on how big the refreshed terminators coming down the line end up being.
Still not sure why they decided to give him a tetsubo. It's neat that GW made a unique weapon that isn't a sword, axe, or hammer, but it's a weird design choice for Iron Hands imo.
>>96128365Need the black weeb audience

>>9612836530k plastic characters are fuck huge. The 2e Praetor is a head taller than normal marines. That said I hope he's not toooo big. I want to do shattered legions with some Gorgons and he would be perfect.

>>96128365God I hate the gay ass mk6 terminator greaves. Have we not learned enough lessons about how garbage mk6 looks

>>96128407To each their own, anon. But it is funny that they have the kneepad version on their updated indomitus terminators, they just chose to use the flat MkVI-styled panel. Who knows, maybe you could do some freehand on it.

>>96128478thank you, I missed that bc the intercept reaction explicitly calls it out but return fire did not
My local's Titanicus group is pretty insular and we browse a lot of the houserule/tourney rules that people come up with so I thought I would try out writing my own rules for Xestobiax.
I don't really like it, it feels too self serving. I guess this is why people who make up their own rules get mocked.
>>96128464I own these termis and love them, but damn are they too big to be taken seriously.
>>96126329anon would you like a link to my 1.0 repository?
>>96128365Nah, take him off his tactical rock and swap that (admittedly cool and 100% very not Xth legion) tetsubo for a thunder hammer and hand him a combi-bolter/combi whatever/volkite charger of your choice and I think he'll make a great gorgon leader (not that there are any of those right now as far as I'm aware)
>>96128492Here's a hint: no one writes good rules the first time around. You need a combination of good game knowledge and lots of playtesting to work out the kinks. That's why 90% of people who try to introduce new house rules fail, because they're just slapping some shit on the table that they saw on the internet and are trying to badger an already leary audience into accepting something brazenly, and then it turns out there's some edge case they didn't consider because they literally didn't think of the idea and now that person you tried it with is sworn off the idea of House rules altogether.
Anyone know what the base bayonet is good for? It doesn't seem to do anything.
>>96128407I think I'm in the minority in enjoying the fact that indomitus is heterogeneous and sometimes takes design cues from actual power armour marks: the kneepad-less greave's not bad and i like the standard mark vii style one as well, but personal favourite is unironically the mark IV style ones they gave Culln for his captain model
>>96128117 (OP)150 for 12 saturnine termies + 25 dollar shipping because colony tax. Worth it off ebay, or wait for price to drop even lower?
>>96128378>>96128375Thank you, dont know why that was so hard for me to find
>>96128550Tortuga actually does 5 mans along this theme with IV/V/VI styled indomitus suits i quite like (even if the helmets aren't great)
>>96128539My problem is that I'm writing them for myself. Nobody else is gonna use them so I'm basically just giving myself goodies instead of using the actual rules that are basically fine. Even if I'd be using them only against one guy right now it just feels poncy.
>>96128552I'll wait once the boxes drop and units start to sell. There's usually somewhat of a drop once the FOMOsexuals get their fill and stores are left with extras. I'm a little tempted to get 3 for some converting, depending on the price. At the moment it's more that what I'm willing to pay.
>>96128552godawful price. More than 80 in total would be an absolutely stupid thing to pay for those. The MkII marines are the popular thing in the box, people are going to want to ditch their 6 terminators for 40-50 easy when the box price plummets in GW wave 2.
>>96128117 (OP)I'm glad we're getting updates and the game is still getting at least some support, but I feel like ligma already has a lot of tank options while special/heavy weapons still boil down to just plasma and missile launchers. We need new infantry options, a new infantry unit, and I can't believe I'm saying this, the Primarchs. Plus daemons to diversify the armies.
>>96128539It's funny because over in TOW, a significant portion of the common fan balance changes made it to the balance update / matched play.
Axe saturnine praetor and hammer command squad or vice versa?
>>96128455ashen circle don't look like raptura jetpacks. I don't see the point when you can get 10 with the correct jetpacks in plastic for as cheap as recasts.
>>96128700I want them to stand apart from the normal mk2 assault marines I'll also be getting. Giving them ancient jump packs feels fit for a specialized assault unit
Can someone explain apothecaries to me? I'm clearly too dumb to understand GW's half-assed legal-ese. It LOOKS like the medic 4+ rule reduces damage on unsaved wounds by 1 to a minimum of 0 on a roll of a 4+, effectively being a 4+ feel no pain for 1D weapons. But that doesn't seem right for a 30pt model.
has anyone built a Sicaran Venator Tank Hunter that was missing some parts? mine was missing part of the exhausts pipes & i don't want to wait several days for GW to answer my email or a month for the part I'm missing.
>>96128757I wish there was a GW translator in general; I cant think of another war game where I scratch my head trying to understand rules. I know that rule lawyers & metafags are to blame because pushing the boundary of whats normal
As someone who is just stepping a toe into HH pardon the question if it is obvious:
Wasn't there a way to add Daemon engines to your army if you play Mechanicum?
I got a brass scorpion on the shelf that I kinda wanna form an army around.
>>96128796It's in the mechanicum liber as a lord of war
>>96128773I just built one and the exhaust pipes are on the main sprue, did they just fall off because you'd know if you were missing half the tank
>>96128757No. You can react to the unit with apothecary getting shot, and you gain a fnp equal to the medic (x) value. It specifies in the medic rule that you have to have another rule allowing you to take the test, having medic doesn't give you the fnp until you react or have some other rule that says to test.

does this mean the entire unit has to be mechanicum or, for example, does it mean the entire unit has to be reductor?

Which legion is best to play if I want blacks in it? I want to play a diverse and inclusive army

>>96128812This is so confusing. Where do I find the Medic! reaction then?
Do I really have to buy 2-6 30 point characters in my list so that ONE of them MIGHT get to use a single reaction to mitigate damage? This is asinine.
>>96128839Okay you're right that is worded like ass. Genuinely no idea what GW intends for Narthecium. You'd assume there aren't any allocated wounds left after the models have been removed and you move to the morale phase. If that's the case nobody would come back and it's just for the morale modifier, but then why bother making it specifically a recovery test.
Is the game actually playable yet? I mean, if you want a jump chaplain at this moment, too bad. Gotta wait for the PDF

>>96128940I can give a unit of troops a 6+ fnp. I think it could be okay giving it to a full 20 stack breacher squad but I am not convinced it's better than just chucking master sergeant on some despoiler sergeant with a pair of lightning claws or forge crafted t hammer.
>>96128278it's so gay that the basic assault axes are larger than the primarch's legendary chainaxe Gorechild.
Legionary weapons should look like toys in a primarch's hands, not be bigger than his own equipment.

>>96128841Night Lords they pretty much come from Detroit, its dark both fugitily & literally along with very high crime.
Every time I start trying to brew a list I just end up stuck staring at the consuls wondering what actually does anything useful for me. Maybe every list just starts with 2-3 vigilators.
I bought a rapier set so I could do a test Imperial Fists scheme for Saturnine. What do you lads think?
I am going to swap the tufts out for greener ones in the future when they arrive in the mail.
>>96129039Not too bad. I will say I like those tufts more then something greener, fits in more with the ruins
>>96129046My thought was like, when you see bright green stuff growing through cracks in the concrete. But I'll repost when the new tufts come, you may well be right!
>>96129006FnP6 (aka 1/6) is like multiplying your wounds by +1/5 (+20%). This is because wounds saved by it can keep activating FnP over and over again until they fail. As such, 20 Breachers with FnP6 could be seen as having 24 wounds among them. This is also akin to having to kill 6 guys to force a Ld test, instead of 5.
That being said, a Master Sergeant also brings +1Ld or +2 if he's already a Champion as it happens on some Elites. On melee units this will make them first among equals, and makes Troop sergeants threaten Optae-class and non-melee Centurion-class characters.
Like Vigilators, Masters of Signals, and Praevians, who currently have 0 melee weapons and yet can be called out to duel. Same for Moritats, but those guys are Specialists and thus can't be duelled.
Elite Master Sergeants can be WS6 A5, which is Champion-class stats. And +1i isn't doesn't guarantee going first in a duel.
>>96129036>>96129039I just don't know where to put Command & Control marines.
Put them with a MotL and the entire unit sucks at melee.
Put them with a Siege Breaker and you get a guy who wants to melee in a unit that doesn't.
Put them with a Praevian and you take Intelligence tests on Int9 at -2 to the score...but it prevents the Praevian from joining the Automata itself.
>>96129077When I make them I think I'm just gonna have them sitting solo behind a vehicle to block line of sight.
>>96128857Oh you have no idea.
>That relic was promised to us 10,000 years ago

>elite and retinue are in seperate apex detachments

>but if you take a primarch you can have a retinue in that detachment
>if you take a champion you get a detachment with one retinue and one elite

>if you are blood angels you get an aux detachment with 2 slots for veteran assault squads
>if you are emperor's children, you get an aux detachment with one retinue and one elite slot
>if you are world eaters or sons of horus you get an aux detachment with 1 elite slot
Genuinely why is this so convulted? If I want veterans and a retinue why do I have to play 20 questions with the libre and core book to see if some special exemption applies to me to allow me to, or if I need to take a primarch or burn prime slots for it?
>>96129213>Genuinely why is this so convulted?Pic related
>>96129233Story of this edition. Tries to tidy up rites of war and force org and ends up creating a bunch of annoying cases like this and disincentizing taking more battlefield roles. Say they want to streamline the books needed to play but now you'll also need a pdf and extra supplements to tell give extra unit entries for a centurion with saturnine armour when it could've just had all statlines, costs, and rules on one page in the libre. Removes rerolls to speed up the gaming process and turns challenges into a whole seperate sub game.
>>96128256Further prediction
Terminators will come in boxes of 6 with one and options of 1 being modeled as a centurion / praetor
>>96128812>gain a fnp equal to the medic (x) value.not FnP. damage reduction by 1 (it can reduce damage 1 to 0)
>>96129190Probably lol
Did you see how bad a remix the new Leagues of Votann vehicle is?
These cunts are just copy pasting in CAD now.
>>96129213Genuinely you're retarded. You take an apex, and a logistics, maybe a champion or legion specific detachment, and there that's your pride of the legion done because there's no way you're fitting more than 5 elite units + hqs + transports in 3k points, not in last edition, and not even in this edition with points slashed across the board. Fucking actually brainless.
Managed to score 6 boxnoughts recently and looking to run them in some games, as my group is looking to stick with 2.0 for now I am thinking of the fury of the ancients rite of war detachment.
I know the all contemptor list understandably gets flak, but would one with the bar minimum of contemptors with a bunch of boxnoughts, especially with a bunch of adhoc loadouts like this be more acceptable?
For reference the leader contemptor has a chainfist and kheres assault cannon while the two troops have just fists while my legion is world eaters.
>>96129322Pseudo fnp, you got me. It's a different damage mitigation roll.
>>96128365>what weapon to give him?> A big techmarine axe?>No, he's not a techmarine>Whatever>put a power sword handle, just do a big octogonal block>copy paste round bits>and put a nice little skull on the pommel, voila! That pose begs to have a large axe/spear instead
>>96129347I specifically outlined the ways to do it anon, I am well aware how to bring the things I want to bring. My point is that it's convulted for no benifit. Read, retard, read.
>>96129373It's interesting that units with reasonably high FnP/Shrouded are getting another layer of protection with medic; thought that was worth taking into account.
>>96129387I read it and I still think you're retarded because taking elites is the easiest fucking thing in the world, you just slap it a a slot anywhere you want and that's 500 points locked in. Try playing a legion with actual trouble getting the slots they need like white scars or word bearers before complaining
>>96129373>It's a different damage mitigation roll.I don't think that counts as damage mitigation roll though. Damage Mitigation rolls remove wounds, and that is a recovery test.
As someone that never played against Auxilia (it's all marines plus one Custodes here), are they actually balanced and fun against marines or is it a sweep for either side?
>>96129402Sorry about white scars or whatever but that genuinely still has nothing with what I'm saying.
>>96129415Militia is designed to be a sweep, you're not supposed to be effective you're supposed to be annoying, your win condition is making the game run on so long that the store has to close and you talk out how would win, allowing you to gaslight the marine player into thinking you had him on the ropes.
>>96129402>aux detachment with 4 slots for bikes and a prime slot>bike retinue coming back in pdf>2 additional detachments and 3-5 logistical benefitsHow many units do you expect to be running?
>>96129377That's just a Japanese Kanabo you absolute philistine.
Didn't you doomertards say we were getting female space marines?
>>96129529That's for when HH transition into Ashes of the Imperium Timeline.
Once you scale down the chainaxe by 20% it looks perfectly fine, I think.
I am disappointed, the saturnine prices aren't falling any further. At least I've yet to see more than 15%.

>Narthecium Medic Recovery Test etc.Ok anon hear me out:
There is a Morale subphase in the shooting phase. (Only the shooting phase has it), where you make characteristic checks for statuses (including 25% losses) after your opponent shoots at you.
It follows after the Attack Sub phase (which has 11 steps).
Apothecary is a model with:
1. Narthecium (wargear that allows Recovery Tests in the morale subphase of the shooting phase).
2. Medic (4+) Special Rule (establishes target number for Recovery Tests, i.e., 4+, and allows to use Medic! Reaction in the shooting phase)
What the fuck is a Recovery Test?
It is said that IT CAN ONLY BE MADE IF another Special Rule, Reaction or Gambit allows it. (not wargear)
Is it a damage mitigation test? This is unclear so far (there is nothing in the books that says that it's a damage mitigation test; damage mitigation tests occur at step 9 of the attack subphase of the shooting phase, and Recovery tests occur at step 11 (Remove Casualties) but in order to use it, we need to declare a Medic! reaction at step 9. So maybe? (need FAQ)
Anyway, if you managed to pass a Recovery Test (it is said it should be made for each model, so I assume at least one time). i.e., someone won't die/damage will be reduced), then thanks to Narthecium, your further characteristic check (it is unclear if it is all checks or only one since there can be multiple checks for statuses - need FAQ) in Morale Suphase (of the Shooting Sup phase) will be easier by 2.
This represents that the unit improved morale since fewer people died from attack.

Personally I have a wet palette that I put my paint on first which helps slightly thin the paint down. When I get the paint on the sponge, I dab it once or twice on a paper towel to get rid of some excess and then stipple. Watching videos and lots of people said that the sponge โdoesnt matterโ which is the biggest lie; Iโd highly recommend blending makeup sponges since their point helps a lot and you can tear chunks off to get into smaller areas without losing the spongeโs rigidity. Other then that you just stipple the same area and gradually build up the colour in whatever point you want, then as your sponge starts to lose paint you move out to get that blend/gradient

The basic bolter variant is a dirt cheap CC machine. The laser destroyer seems to be one of the better anti-tank options in the game. The quad-launcher can get the absolutely hilarious panic(3) phosphex shells and will still take giant chunks out of power armor squads (it breaches now, but at 1D dont be fooled into thinking its vs terminators) and the grav cannons are a multi purpose thing that can CC both tanks and infantry fairly well and deal some damage to either target, but wont kill anything super dead.

Havenโt kept up with leaks, so forgive me if this has been talked to death, but did James fuck up bayonets in 3e?
>>96131618Yes, they no longer give +1S, instead theyre simply Ap5 melee weapons, which is pointless for marines 99.9% of the time.
>>96131618Bayonets were already useless, only real purpose was filling out some leftover points in your list. The only thing bayonets did in 2.0 was make your tacticals be slightly more likely to win combat against other tacticals without bayonets, even despoilers would still kick their shit in.
In 3.0 regular bayonets only give AP 5 on your melee attacks, chain bayonets also have Shred 6+ (meaning damage 2 on a wound roll of 6)
Bayonets should have remained purely aesthetic anyway.
>>96131649Also tacs and vets can no longer get chainswords along their bolters, and chainswords have the same stats as chain bayonets now...
>>96131686Chainswords should have had +1 attack modifier

IH bros please help my smooth brain understand how the Legion works.
So at the highest level we have Clans, which are approximately equal to Chapters but are independent and self-sufficient with their own forges, fleets, recruits etc. Essentially the Legion is actually ~50 micro-Legions all drawn from the same planet and led by the same Primarch.
However for actual fighting, they will create an Order to fight a specific campaign or battle, given their own ships/troops and expected to fight as an independent organisation. These are often, but not always, made up of Legionaries from a single Clan. They are equipped with everything they need for that campaign and nothing more; failure and/or asking for help is shameful to the point of ritual bionic suicide via Immortals.
My question is below that level; are Orders permanent or are they ad-hoc arrangements of whichever Companies are to hand? Iron Hands still use specialist Companies but they come together to make a generalist Order? I don't really understand what makes an Order different to a standard Battalion.
>>96131732So you mean just be a basic combat weapon? The thing that all models are assumed to be equipped with by default?
>>96131745Honestly, I don't think it's really relevant during the actual Heresy as the Legion splits between strong personalities like Mor and Meduson and weak personalities like the old dorks garrisoned on Medusa.
>>96131753Close combat weapons have no AP.
The problem with Despoilers isn't chainswords specifically, the problem is once again tacticals are just superior in every way. Despoilers should get +1 A on the charge with chainswords like how tacticals get +1 FP when standing still with bolters.
Just got a bunch of heavy weapon teams in the mail for my militia, do we have the weapon profiles for the various options? Not sure how to build them. I assume lascannons, autocannons, etc are the same between armies right?

I think, if there's one thing I hate about Primaris most of all (and there's a pretty sizeable list) it's how they're all fucking monopose garbage, but because people buy them up, GW shits them out, at worse prices then when they were making multipart kits with a billion options on them.
>>96131354>"Costaguana"That ever come up in the NL lore, out of interest?
>>96131904It's not even just that they're garbage, it's that a bunch of them spell the end of those good older kits. That new kill team means the Deathwatch Veterans - and their many useful options - are now gone too. Bit by bit, we're losing what we had.

Once I fill up on tacticals, support squads and heavy weapon squads plus some HQs (multiple mkIV boxes) and maybe some rhinos, what else should I get when it comes to generic units? I'm probably going to with Word Bearers, alternatively Night Lords, Imperial Fists or Salamanders.
Does anyone have a new tarantula they could put next to the old tarantula?
Just put together some saturnine termis that got shipped to me early, and they really are impressively chunky, especially as a unit.
If anyone plays Orks, it's like the warm feeling you get when looking at a unit of Killa Kans.
>>96132186for a generic army you might need Terminators with an appropriate car and Dreads.

>Hmm, EC having a detachment with a retinue slotโthat's pretty cool.
>They changed Phoenix termies slot from elites to retinue.
Holy kek, I missed that. Now it makes sense why they are so gimped.
5 command tartaros termies cost 220 points
armed with c-bolters (they can change them for combi weapon of volkite charger for free)
and power weapons (they can buy 2LCs for 10)
5 phoenix termies with 5 sonic lances cost 225
armed with Sonic Lances (a pretty good assault weapon against 1w in 3+)
and Phoenix Spears (an AP3 weapon with the +1i of Power Lance, +1S of power Axe, Breaching 6 of Power Sword and Power Maul! (wtf I love phoenix spears now) and D2 on a charge)
Now this is where the trade-off occurs:
Phoenix termies have +1 WS for defensive/offensive purposes only and +1 to LD and CL on a sergeant for a price of 1 attack that Command Squad Termies have. It all makes sense now (at least in the mind of the James Workshop's game designer, I guess). (Yeah, CS can buy a banner and grenade harness, but)
I guess the only way to fix them is to give them a centurion with TH or to drop them from rhinos (we can do that now) against 3+, where spears will help them to strike first anyway.
>>96131732>power swords should have (gained +1A)Oof true
>Chainswords should have no ap5 no special rulesWith useless AP, shred 6 is basically no special rule at all lol

Considering an allied Death Guard detachment, painted up a test model. I don't have any Death Guard transfers but I do have the Legions Imperalis transfer sheet, put a DG symbol on his knee and an eye of horus on his shoulder.
Would that be totally setting breaking in anyway? I figure the SoH icon could be used to represent anyone who has alligned with the traitors, rather than just the SoH legion itself.
>>96131745>~50 micro-LegionsThere's 50 clans? I thought they were still the same, just tens thousand+ marines strong each
I do like that Ferrus allows infighting, assassinations and politicking among his legion, as long it doesn't get in the way of the Crusade, as it keeps them on their toes. Ork-like, it ensured the klanz were led by the deadliest warlords possible
>asking for help is shameful to the point of ritual bionic suicide via ImmortalsYes, but asking for help isn't the only way to have multiple clans in the same order. It could be the Primarch's order. It could be that some clan has demanded they are included in the order of battle because duty compels then, or because a warlord has forced his way in. It could be that is isn't help, but the clanhead is cashing in a favour to another, or that a warlord calculates fighting an easy war on someone's behalf can be a way to buy favour for a time of need in some future, more difficult fight
The Iron Hands only became cold and machine-like because Ferrus goaded their ruthlessness to the point of inhumanity
It's like if politicians weren't old and fat, but superhumanly deadly AND twice as heartless
>>96132415>I figure the SoH icon could be used to represent anyone who has alligned with the traitors, rather than just the SoH legion itself.Sorta, kinda. Some traitors wore an eye of horus/of the serpent to mark their allegiance to the Warmaster (specially if they were close to the SoH). But no legionary would replace their own legion icon with it.

On the other hand, it is hard to accept a timeline where elite terminators aren't the best legion units.
Also, Phoenixes could very well afford to be 3A base. They kill only 1 terminator otherwise, and that's conditional to the charge. They do shit outside it.
Phoenix spears are very good power spears, but at the end of the day they are power weapons on a unit expected to fight thunder hammer terminators.

>>96132899baal red over vallejo liquid metal rich gold, with some gloss varnish on top
>>96132834I think that between command squads and normal terminators, there is a sufficient difference now with the introduction of Vanguard. Command terminators have WS5 and 1 more attack, and normal terminators have an ability to score a lot of VPs if they are aggressive. (And some special terminators like Justaerins can do both.)
I would honestly let Phoenixes have 2 attacks if they would give them -1 to hit with a defensive stance and +1 to hit in an offensive one, which I don't think would affect either their or Phoenix Guard's offensive capability that much (since they only have AP3 weapons) but would outline their martial prowess.
Maybe I'm underestimating the lack of artificer armor and stubborn-like abilities, though.

3000 point army, 17 multimelta rhinos 1445 points, 55 tactical marines 550 points, siegebreaker 105 points, 12 phosphex rapiers 900 points.
Use 17 rhinos to block line of sight forever, take out any tanks using 17 multimeltas. Take out infantry using 12 phosphex rapiers lobbing 12 S5 AP3 3" blasts with 1d6 scatter, poison3+ breaching5+ to kill terminators and panic(3) to force the enemy to run backwards off caps so your 55 tactical marines can move onto caps behind the rhino+phosphex wall. Make walls 4-6 deep of rhinos so that enemy cannot kill enough rhinos on his turn to shoot the rapier batteries, and spread batteries behind different rhino walls.

>>96133496Yeah, but the problem with the Terror Squad is that you can either take a Melee option, or you can take guns that put debuffs on people. You can no longer do both.
Before the entire squad could be outfitted with a mix of Rotor Cannons and Volkite Chargers (plus more things, but Rotor Cannons could Pin, so that procc'd the old ability) as well be given Chain-Axes or even Chain-Glaives if you were feeling like splashing out. You'd infiltrate turn one during the night-fight rules and you'd pin with the rotors and then delete with the Volkite.
Now... you either take someone who can shoot and put a debuff on the target, or you take someone whose only useful in combat, but useless outside of it. You need to put debuffs to get your +1WS bonus, but if you do that, you're fighting with your base CC weapon BECAUSE PISTOLS ARE FUNCTIONALLY USELESS IN THIS EDITION UNLESS YOU'RE MORITAT.

>>96133313Isnt it only 28 rhinos?
4 in main detachment, along with 4 Centurions who unlock 8 detachments with 2 transports each.
That's 20 from the main detachment.
The allied detachment is 2 centurions for 8 rhinos and oh fuck you can bring unlimited allies up to 50% pts cost
>>96133583caliver squad is substantially cheaper than a culverin squad, it's a difference of something like 70 points in favour of TSS now
>>96133424>I can't be bothered, how much fudging would it be to make this list legal?A little.
You need roughly 3 armored fist detachments for those extra 13 rhinos (assuming you use one prime logistics for a rhino)
55 marines is doable with just 4 units, but depending on how you split them you might need a tactical support detachment (good news incoming)
You will need 2 tactical support detachments for those rapiers, because you need at least 3 groups of 4 (or 4 groups of 3, its all the same detachments wise)
So thats 5 detachments extra, your siege breaker unlocks one. So you need two centurions for the other 4,
>>96133547>With 17 you will manage to drag a predator or whatever down through weight of fireAt BS4 vs the Front armour of a Predator (5HP) a multimelta at 6" or less has a 1/9 chance of destroying it with one hit, same as the chance of a BS4 bolt pistol killing MEQ outright
the problem seems to be that you don't know how melta has always functioned
>>96133543>pin with the rotors and then delete with the Volkite.Rotors now force suppression on HIT, and any unit with a status reduces its initiative to 1. And you are getting +1 to WS. Seems fine to me, much better even. The only problem is deployment (i.e., storm eagle).
>>96133461>and get shot to death by 55 tactical marines and 12 rapier batteriesThat both wont kill terminators in any reasonable manner and will also take several time more reactions than you have available. You have two in that list.
>>96133601Armoured Fist detachment has 4 transport slots. So it's 8 Rhinos for each Centurion.

>>96133357There WERE two lions on Caliban within living memory, though.
>>96133424Phospher rapier are kinda shit at killing stuff due to being D1. Their main advantage is causing panic on units holding objectives.
>>961336088" or less for a multi melta. But your rhino isnt going to be 8" away from the front armor of a predator, so thats irrelevant.
And firing at the front armor of a predator (Av13) from anywhere outside of 8" the multi melta has only a 1/6 chance to pen, so after a 2/3 chance to hit you have a 1/9 chance at damage. At 5HP and 3HP per pen it will take roughly 15 shots to kill (actually closer to 18 probably if you want to account for the fact its functional 6HP given the damage breakpoints). If it pops smoke and reduces incoming damage by 1/3 for a phase then you just dont kill it.
So thats 1500pts+ to kill one 100pts tank. No, those multi meltas are not reasonable anti tank firepower in this edition.
>>96133612The problem is that Terror Squads can either have a gun that causes a status effect. OR they can have a good Close Combat weapon (or a Chainaxe) to capitalise on that, they can no longer have both. Who would even think of this? Only a yoghurt.

Or hell, you dont even need combat weapons vs their preffered targets (tacticals) and its not like chainswords (or even chain axes) do too much, so you can just take volkite and rhino rush people. >>96133644 I mean, you want i1 enemies, WS5, good ranged weapons, and good melee weapons for 140-145 points? I guess you have to choose.
>>96133644Anon most people would think to pick between a 2 handed ranged weapon or a melee weapon and pistol
>>96133655literally none of that is true. The person deepstriking has to let the opponent know in advance, so it's not a trap at all, if you choose to deepstrike terminators, they cost a lot more than the number of 85 point rhinos that can wall them off, and a single phosphex squad hitting will panic them to run off to the very edge of the board and your 700 point terminator squad is out for the entire 4 turn game literally, without having killed a single model. And the dirt cheap rhino behind the army which prevents all termie deepstrike units is enough spacing that it's nearly impossible for the phosphex to hit friendly tacticals with just 1d6" average scatter from the exact terminator farthest away from them. Yeah, you're fucking retarded.
>>96133670It's just a shame, because as stated if you Suppress them their Initiative goes down to 1, and at that point, Chainaxes are actually pretty good, since that mitigates the initiative penalty, and now, with Hatred they're wounding on a 2, hitting on 3.
They were SO fucking close to being actually really fucking nasty in their select role.
>>96133697Okay but you dont need a full unit of rotors to suppress. You can take say 8 chain axes and 2 rotor cannons, or 7 chain axes, 2 rotors and a flamer.
You then fire the rotor cannons, get your proc, make them test at -2 between the suppressive and fear, maybe fire off your flamer to also make them take a panic test at -1 for good measure. You then charge in, hit on 3s wound on 2s while going first into a target that almost certainly cant fight back. If you splurge a bit more and take chainglaives thats even going to put the hurt on melee units (anything in power armor anyways)

>>96133694>so it's not a trap at allIts not a trap, its just something that list cant deal with.
>wall them off with rhinosA unit of 5 terminators is worth like 200pts, the second you spend two rhinos walling them off (which they WILL kill, trivially) they already basically made their points back. And remember, they dont scatter, they just pick a point and show up there. So youre going to need a lot of rhinos.
>And the dirt cheap rhino behind the army which prevents all termie deepstrike unitsIm not sure if this is a bit or what, but the amount of rhinos it would take to effectively block off your deployment zone is enormous, with that sort of point commitment the terminators have already won the game even before the show up. They turned 1500pts of rhinos into some terrible backline fire support.
>>96133694Bruh, have you even played one game of 30k ?
>Deep strike can now be 1" away>You have less than a chance in 4 to panic a 700pts terminator deathstar with your 12 shots of puny D1 AP - weapons. >>96133760That loadout still works. Volkite is decent since you fire it on the volley, and rotors are still pretty good too (well, as good as they were beforehand, which is "decent but overpriced"). >chainwordsAre just regular combat weapons in the new edition. Its not like they actually do anything
>>96133763Terminators only kill things in melee.
You can no longer charge in the same turn you deep strike.
There's an entire movement phase to just move away from the terminators, and an entire shooting phase to shoot the terminators with as many units as it takes to kill them.

>>96133770NTA but rapiers DO have a decent chance to panic a terminator deathstar. Especially one that DS in. They realistically cap out at LD10 and the rapier gives panic -3, so thats a 40%~ chance that they run (theyll rally, but thats still them taken out for a turn). It just doesent trigger off the reaction and cant be really pushed past that point unless theyre night lords.
>>96133773>Just count the escaton as a power fist (which is what it was, and what that model is) and youre still guchi.Unfortunately you can't give him a Rotor Cannon or a Melee Weapon since the Sarg can only swap his Melee weapon for another. I would assume that Heavy doesn't work when you just appear from Reserves like that, so you can't just offload 20 Rotor Cannon shots, followed up by 10 Volkite Charger shots. True they're only hitting on 5's, but there's a lot of dice here, even if it's just 15 Rotor Cannon shots.

>>96133775>Terminators only kill things in melee.Wrong. Terminators carry guns, of which even the light weapons are fairly potent, and can even carry heavy weapons now.
>thats a whole movement phase to run away from themIf your entire army wants to play "run away from terminators" for the rest of the game instead of doing anything productive, then thats going to be fine with your opponent.
>shoot themNone of your options for that are any good. Rapiers and multi meltas dont kill terminators well and bolters dont kill them at all. You can fire your entire army into a unit of terminators and theres a decent chance it will survive.
Multi meltas (all of them)
17*2/3*5/6*1/2 = 4.7
Rapiers (all of them, assuming like 2 hits per rapier since its a small blast)
(24*1/3*1/2+24*1/3*1/6)/2 = 2.7
Marines (all of them, standing still for fury)
(55*3*2/3*1/3*1/6)/2 = 3
Your entire army, given fairly charitable conditions, firing at a single enemy terminator unit kills around 10
Your entire army.
Oh but sure, you do make them take a single panic test at -3 if those rapiers hit. A single one. They still have reasonable odds of passing it and you have no way of doubling up or making sure they fail it. Depending on what legion they are (IW?) they take that test at -0, rather than -3.

If it becomes available outside of whatever scenario is in the book/is a thing in general play, I can genuinely see it warping the meta and basic play patterns. You move your vulnerable units first, tacticals, tech thralls, lone magi, whatever. Maybe even keep them back in your deployment zone and you keep fast responsive melee units (assault marines, vets, ursarax) around on hand to assist whatever gets ambushed. Under those conditions its not even that good, spend a reaction to feed some despoilers to assault veterans. But any list that isnt prepared for it (or that plays incorrectly around it) is going to have a bad time.

>>96134544no, its same as always, if you can't place them without being within 1 inch of an enemy, they are removed from play.

>>96134345>rending 5+ for duty of the legionNot that you need to choose but what you really want rending 5+ on is stuff like plasma or autocanons. Rending shots count as a 6 to wound so that's straight up 1/3 of your shots being automatic wounds with ap2
>>96134558yes
>>96134560Yup, plasma/atuo Tsons will be busted.
>WSโs can have Breachers that move 9โ every turn
Strong desire to make a mini ZM force of scars now
>>96130151this seems both retarded and not worth a reaction point
>>96131231When the game is balanced on the assumption people will be bringing 2.5-3k armies you can't just drop down to 1k and expect things to function properly - the game gets really swingy. That's why there are like, four different fan "modes" between 1st & 2nd that impose additional limits on lisbuilding and tweak rules to try and allow things to function smoothly at lower point values. You *used* to be able to use ZM, but the version of it GW sharted out in the latter part of 2nd was explicitly designed to push bigger armies and the RP deployment system completely broke the game at sub-1.5K since there was never any reason to bring anything except Pride-RoW because you could abuse the retinue discount and troop-shifting to just shit out a bunch of Terminators(many of them scoring) turn one while your opponent who brought a theme list is putting down *maybe* half their army and some of whatever's left may not see the table at all.
And we won't know if GW are continuing that push to ruin ZM for skirmish heresy until fucking December or whatever it is. Will the RP system still be in? If so did they fix it to remove the perverse incentives? Will it use shitty progressive scoring videogame objectives? Will they tone down or remove their dumb fucking herohammer minigame that would otherwise take up half the playtime? Don't know, and at this point who fucking cares.
>>96134573They also have a couple of really high strength Armourbane psychic weapons as well. So, like a Predator or something getting within 12" of a 20man TSon Tactical with that first discipline is probably not going to enjoy what happens?
>>96134560That can't be fair with 4 plasma shot bikes
>>96134560>>96134573>My love of Corvidae and autocannons has been rewarded
>>96134605If you bring more than like, one unit, you are now a bastard. I dont make the rules. You should not bring four corvidae autocannon units and invalidate an entire admech army in one round of shooting.
>>96134618First TS werr deepstriking-psychic-termimator-bomb bastards
Then they were a joke
Now they're autocannon bastards.
What a resume.
>>96134618I only have a 10 man unit
But did my rotor cannon squad become gross too?
>>96134618What's the rule interaction here?
>>96134629Sorta? They now wound well, but its still just rotor cannons. So "better" but not "broken by the power".
Autocannons are on the other hand 3 shots with exploding 6s to wound at damage 2. You turn them into multi shot lascannons.
>>96133632Back in my day phosphex was AP2. Everything was, really :^)
>>96134637Also autocannons don't have armorbane so you can stunlock vehicles and knights.
>>96134629Nah, rotor cannons are kinda shit. They have to stay still just to get 4 shots at S3. Rending 5+ definitely improves them a lot but it's not particularly amazing imo
Pinning is nice tho
>>96134635Rending (X) means that on an X+ to hit the hit is an automatic wound.
The wound counts as a "6" for any rules (like shred or breaching).
Autocannons are a very good weapon (in terms of shots/damage) balanced around its bad Ap (4) and relying on getting 6s to wound to become Ap2.
The combination of rending and breaching is very strong, it means that if you fire 3 autocannon shots, 1/3 will be automatic D2 wounds. So thats essentially 1 Ap2 2 damage wound per guy. Or 20 damage, enough to wipe out a whole unit of automata or terminators. (and then you have the rest of your shots, so 10 S7 Ap4 wounds that will cause one or two more breaches and a bunch of armor saves for even more damage)
It also makes plasma really good for similar reasons.
Two autocannon teams with the power have a good shot to kill a brass scorpion in like one round of shooting. Theyre good into marines, but theyre REALLY good into dreads and automata.
>>96134662what other fun things can you abuse with corvidae? seekers seem like a good place to start. not sure if plasma has enough shots, seems like you need something with high damage and breaching
>>96134649Remember rend only applies to wounds, it does nothing vs vehicles
>>96134699S7 vs AV13, dude.
>>96134680Plasmaguns have two shots now, breaching 6+
A plasma TSS puts out 20 shots at 24"
As for other things broken by it? Autocannons and plasma are probably the best stuff, but anything with rending. Seekers, Recons, deredeos with plasma, it all benefits. Besides that? Just mass low S firepower (bolters, heavy bolter rapiers, rotor cannons).
Tbh its just generally good a lot of the time, it turns half your hits into extra wounds. So if you would half the time its +33% damage over what you would have had. Autocannons and plasma are just edge cases where its SUPER good.
Zero benefit for templates and blasts though. So dont get any ideas about plasma mortar saturnines.
>>96134711Would pyrae work for saturnine? Make up ever so slightly for their rubbish melee?
>>96134730TS are getting special psychic saturnine squads in an upcoming journal.
>>96134744Oh right.
Pavoni would probably be better anyway.
>>96133730Bro you can't tank shock with tanks either. Ramming no longer causes an ld test to fall back; it's just hits
I'm trying to push out my backlog in order to use stuff for 3.0 (it seems the new edition is drawing in people who actually want to play it instead of just buying beakies for boomer memes). Is it unethical to put AoD 2.0 praetors on 32mm bases?

played a couple of 3e mech games vs IF and AL
just some random takeaways:
>thralls are every bit as tough as people thought but as soon as they're in combat, they start to falter
>the gambit that gives you attacks instead of focus bonus is actually good with thralls bc I'm never winning the focus roll off and instead I can just get an extra 5 attacks when the magos is in a challenge
>snipers are actually kind of bad at killing off lacrymaerta magi bc they can just heal themselves back to full every turn if they don't get killed in one volley
>vultarax are quite strong being able to shoot twice with their missile launcher bc of firestorm
>rhinos are insanely broken and it's crazy that they can get a unit into a combat 25" away or just drop a tactical squad onto an objective t1 and cockblock it
>for some odd reason, the loser of the first roll off deploys and go first
How are people getting more than 2 reactions in an average game? Isn't it just 1 to start and then 1 for playing like 1500-3500pts?
>>96135404mech gets to make one of their reactions cost one less every turn and have a power that lets them remove a buff from a unit to give it a free reaction
>>96135404Master of the Legion trait on high command slots grants an extra reaction.
>>96135037Just finished these boys
>>96133035Reading these and the rules for skyfire, it seems to imply that a flyer on one of these assignments that forces snap fire on interceptor also forces snap fire on return fire, but I cant explicitly find the latter written down.
