This works perfectly on reddit because one airforce base maintaining a few thousand accounts can manipulate upvotes however they want to make it so it looks like "the majority" of users all agree, and that if someone wishes to retain in-group acceptance, they should learn to contort themselves to accept that point of view also.
It works far less effectively on 4chan because we're all too autistic and stubborn, and one dedicated sperg can argue back for days, leaving the various glowies to either sputter and tank the thread in an effort to hide the conflicting conversation, or make the topic so fucking annoying to engage with that users stop posting about it. Even then, a dedicate sperg can undermine that severely.
