I'm so sick of draft in this game, it used to be the most fun thing to me but time and time a-fucking-gain I get too many non-interactive matches or I lose to retarded mythics that turn the whole match around OR it's the opposite where I just win for free because my opponent doesn't have anything good to play or I always draw the right answer to stop my opponent from doing anything or I pull MY faggot mythic that turns the game around.

This shit is just not fun anymore. I am truly starting to believe matches are rigged, I really am man. It makes me want to go play MTGO if that piece of shit sucked so much fun and soul out of it with the most basic, boring UI possible and slow controls or clunky controls.

Another 2-1 with RB. Games were very close, I think it wouldn't have taken much to change it to either 0-3 or 3-0 here. Interceptor mechan is top tier, a gravedigger that grows and has flying and artifact synergy is pretty strong. It was pretty common to take a trade with your 3 drop on t4 and then play a land and the interceptor. Pain for all wasn't that great outside of green, the smaller bodies makes both effects worse. Unsure how to feel about gravpack monoist, both bodies are subpar and there's not a lot of fliers that you'll be favorably trading with to really make it worthwhile. Plus the token comes in tapped for some reason, it combines the 3 cost 2 power flier with upside role with the doomed dissenter sac fodder role and doesn't really do either great. Never got to cast massacre, though I don't know if I should've ran it in this deck even if I had been able to. The trend continues with yet another set of B having great removal and very little else going for it.

How do you not just hit lands all the time or whiff on killing? I'm playing a version that's focused on thinning the deck of land and almost all my creatures have evasion/trample and I'll still end up in situations where I mill like 3 lands.

I like playing commander and ignoring the meta. Should I go back and try standard, just to have something to do on my phone at work?

It's usually Smuggler's Surprise that kills with interactive creatures (Marang and Red Overlord) and Lumbering Wagons swinging for 20 dmg. Wagons also do a great job at grabbing your basics and ramping with the Vestige pilot.
I stole the list from Shahar Shenhar, so if you want a more up to date version you should check his vods (untapped kept breaking yesterday). He's been messing around with big dumb Temur Smuggler's Surprise decks for a while now.

been trying to make malcolm work, can't really find a use for other colors, really like the spree counterspells right now. problem was removal obvioiusly, unable to scream is probably the only good one, pirhanas is ok, best U creatures right now are overlord of flood pits and enduring... figured that was a lot of enchantments, added entity tracker, turned 4 islands into lair, all of a sudden it's pretty good. need 4 annul on the sideboard as well as 3 more whales and aetherize and you gotta maindeck tish because of kaito but this does work, mid plat now, winning games. not sure how good it really is but if you want to play with malcolm and counterspells, and i do, this is probably the way to do it. ngl u/b kaito decks just seem better but there's no reason to play malcolm in those lists, which is what i want to do right now.

Yes, people either have fat value pile decks or relatively fast aggro decks. You have to decide which one of those you're trying to beat because an honest midrange deck like what might have been good in FF is going to be trash vs. both of the popular archetypes.

and then i WARP my timeline culler, a 2/2 creature with haste

i attack with timeline culler

with my bloodletter of aclazots already on the field my timeline culler's 2 damage becomes 4

and then during my end step my unholy annex activates!

it lets me draw a card at the cost of -2 life points from me and my opponent, but, and this is crucial, if i have a demon on the field i GAIN 2 life instead, but my opponent still loses 2

and remember, with my bloodletter of aclazots on the field all instances of damage are applied again... so the 2 damage from unholy annex becomes 4!

and that brings you to ZERO life points!

Thanks to the anon that made me notice a couple days ago that sealed is actually a better gem/pack ratio than buying packs, as long as I make it to at least 2 or 3 wins.

Time to make the cuts. I think it's a strong deck, I expect at least not to get completely shit on.
I'm not very enthusiastic abut Perigee Beckoner And Terrasymbiosis is nice, but I only managed out to snag 3 cards that work it it, so it's probably getting kicked out. Meltstrider's gear, same thing, kindof okay but I'd almost always rather have another creature.
I am having a hard time deciding if I should keep the Chorale of the void, but I think it's going to stay.
Aside from that, my 3 drop slot is chock full, so at least one of the comet crawlers is going to be out.

So I have 2 different mono white decks. Surprisingly both have similar winrates. I like the angel one more since its funner to play. Any recs to upgrading one or both of these decks? I dont have many wildcards so I know neither is truly optimal but ide like some reccomendations. Bonus points if it doesnt take rares/mtyhics. War effort basically forces you into WR aggro, it's not good in anything else.
Avenger is basically just a 2/4 deathtouch for 3, it's good for blocking and that's about it. The graveyard effect typically doesn't do much unless you're in BUG, in which case you probably don't actually care that much about sneaking in some damage anyway.
The exhales will be good cards in any deck in those colors, you stay far more flexible. If you really didn't want to take one for some reason, the third choice would probably be sagu wildling.

You can get 4 wins a day in starter deck duels. then you do a couple jump ins to get a rudimentary constructed deck that can get to plat (mono red is good and easy to obtain). then after a month you start saving up 5000 gold from dailies and use it to quick draft. you never spend the gems unless you have enough for the mastery and you have enough levels in the mastery to make it count, then you buy the master with the gems you earned from your quick drafts, which gets you gold, gems, packs, and ICRS.

also you play midweek every week for 2 free rares.

you don't have to give wokezards of the coast a dime.

and if you play alchemy instead of draft you go infinite and never have to spend money in the game and play multiple constructed events a day instead of one draft a week

I've avoided picking a single white card this draft format but green gets cut so hard nowadays I might as well try aggro.

This draft format is kind of demoralizing me. It turns out I'm not even doing that bad, 64.5%, but my last 3 drafts 2-3, 1-3 and 3-3. It's the gigapunishes where I'm not dead, I have to keep playing but I know I'm dead.

But it's not even that, I feel there's something fundamental about deck composition that I don't understand, except for UB and adjacent like UBR which are decks I feel I understand how they work, on the rest it feels like I'm just putting random cards in my deck. I've seen UW decks that looked very commited to the 2 spells thing and I'm not sure how they end there, they don't look like decks I could have aimed for in any of my seats. My green decks feel like they don't have any special synergy, just random big things. And the beatdown decks look like the other decks, 4-6 removal spells and less 2 for 1s.

Last point, my wins often come to my opponent killing himself on board and this makes me uncomfortable because what happens when my opponents stop being retarded? I just had a game where my WG deck was losing to UR and my opponent had a million options but decided to tap the wrong creature with mechanozoa, crew the killship and starport security tapped the killship and he was dead on board next turn.

Just wanted to rant a bit, it doesn't look like a horrible format but I'm having trouble seeing cohesion in decks as something that pays off. Which I'm sure it still happens but I feel like I'm the only person that isn't understanding some joke.

This draft format reminds me a lot of Cube. It’s extremely synergy based in both a direct and indirect sense. Just taking the good cards tends to not work. One thing I’ve noticed is that other drafters in diamond and mythic are playing cards I never see other people play like the Survey Mechan and having entire decks to make them work

WU bringing home another 3-0. Would've liked some better double spell payoffs, but other than that no real quibbles. This one had early game, late game, removal, card filtering, a solid curve, the whole package. Honor was quite good, not only easy double spell enabler that replaces itself but also helps push past blockers or just better value on fliers/doubler strikers. Desculpting blast is actually insane, so much tempo in a race scenario. Radiant strike too, though I found myself sniping spacecraft more often with it. Infiltrator worked out well this run, but I'm not sure if I'm still sold on it. Gone are the days when scroll thief was a playable card, unless you can ensure you're double spelling every turn and have efficient ways to catch up on board it doesn't seem like a great pick. The 3x operatives did well, though again I think only in this specific type of deck, it's basically a exclusively UW card. Luminary on the other hand is still good wherever. In this list, just a nice pseudo elvish visionary that helps with the double spelling. Same with codecracker and adepts, just good all around cards. Games never lasted long enough for me to use starforge, which I think is a good sign for the deck.

Questionable WG list this time, but still 2-1. Way too low of a curve even at 16 lands, I probably should've cut a pollinator for skystinger. That being said, when it worked it worked well, I was pretty aggressive and had a fair amount of disruption to close out games. Even the ones I lost were pretty close, just needed an extra push that I didn't have. Scoutlander is a good card but not great in this deck, again due to the low curve. Lightsmith, on the other hand, was great every time it could stick on the board. Security did alright, definitely needed more counter synergy to be reliable here. I fucked up sequencing multiple times with pilot, first with ace and then with scoutlander. Really noticed this run how people can still be too cautious or greedy with the stations, it's hard to time it right sometimes. Focus fire was still good, but like most similar removal it's best when you've got a bunch of big dudes so they're more likely to double block.

Got another 2-1 with WG. Last game was very close, unfortunately I simply got outvalued by a graveyard deck. I'm liking WG a lot this set, the numbers work out well and the synergies are there. I took a second seriema in the hopes I would see another legendary in WG, but no luck there. I also cut the security and a focus fire, not sure if that was the right call. I think I had enough removal most of the time, and this one was highlighted by the two (or three) big fliers that helped end games. I don't think the effect on either was ever relevant. Fatemaker and enhancer are there for counter synergy, but honestly this deck didn't really have much. Enhancer compares poorly to honor, fatemaker is alright I guess, as long as you're not playing defense. Biosynthic burst is one of the few combat tricks I've been consistently happy to run, pretty much wins a combat for you. Much riskier on the defense when you're using it for the reach, but that's just how it goes. Dual sun adepts has been great every time I've taken it, whether it's weakening something for focus fire, forcing a chump with deathtouch from stinger, or just being a good body to dump counters on while buffing your board. Rover is another nice body to hold counters, it can lead to pretty aggressive starts that'll punish anyone who stumbles on lands.

A RGu list that felt janky but still went 2-1. I sort of bailed in pack 3 and just started raredrafting since I wasn't getting anything good. Going with R was probably not the play. Still did ok, but that was honestly more due to opponents being dumb about on board combat tricks with landers and crasher/agrarian than anything else. The G half did pretty well overall. Crasher doesn't stand up to the ones in DFT or ELD, but it's still a solid 4 mana 4/4 trampler, and it can even trade up sometimes. Agrarian is sort of an upgraded crasher, though it's a bit slower to start. The zookeeper mechans did help a lot in getting both of them out earlier, which is nice for more landfall triggers. Despite capping at 4 cmc, the deck had plenty of mana sinks and rarely felt like it was treading water late game. Starforge was also nice to continuously threaten lethal in long games, but also to pump up pangolins. I've lowered my opinion of turbodrone, 3 mana is too much for that kind of effect, plus it's absolute ass on the defense. Maybe it'd be good in some kind of warp deck, idk. Relations can be a bit awkward with agrarian, sometimes you want to use it after swinging in so you can get the lander rather than keep it untapped to block. The molecular modifiers were useful in getting past defenders, but again ass on the defense. Might be best in RB where you can pair it with lifelinkers to force races.

Looking over my games this set, I've still yet to play UB, GB, UR, or RW, which is a pretty big chunk. It does seem to line up with 17lands numbers, those are the four worst performing pairs (UB is actually a bit higher up with WU and BR, but I haven't played much of those either). I think WG is my most commonly played color pair, and that seems like the right choice for my playstylee, UG feels meh. G in generally is looking more and more like the best color of the set, and maybe this is recency bias with my last game but R does feel like the weakest. Ironically RG is actually pretty strong, I'm guessing mostly due to the strong R cards being the ones that work best in the landfall/ramp archetype. I don't think it's at the level where you should be hard forcing G, but I'd be going into pack 1 with it as my primary option and pivoting out if it's getting overdrafted. I don't think there's any dud mechanics in EOE. Stations and warp fill a similar niche in being a tool to trade tempo for value. Sort of like a delayed kicker. Landers are great in landfall decks, but just generically good for anyone that's looking to splash a color. I feel like you should always be on the lookout for a good splash if you've got a couple of them. Void does feel relatively weak, I think partly because opponents often have the ability to play around it, but also because the cards aren't that great, most are trash until you get an activation or two.

I love this game. I love Arena for allowing me to play this game more than I ever could on paper before; however, this new pacing is insane. I can't keep up. I cannot commit to winning 5+ games a day just to get the value I used to. I have other things to do in my life.

Asking us to buy 2 more passes a year and complete them even faster, I have failed to finish the Tarkir pass to its full and I didn't even bother to buy the Final Fantasy pass because I knew I couldn't finish it. I am staring at this Edge of Eternity pass wanting it so bad. I will miss the value I used to get and the fun I had with completing the passes but this is just ridiculous.

most games I have played give you paid for currency for free in small increments where you either get it from dailies or completing certain milestones or doing things like connecting your discord or slowly through the free BP (for example Fortnite after 2-3 passes you have enough to buy one and then get to buy the next one for free forever). Is it because this spell isn't targeting my creature, but rather a blanket "sacrifice a permanent" type of spell? I mean, it's not all bad.

I've been experimenting with warp for the last few days and the deck is coalescing into this thing.
I definitely want red because Full Bore is like the new Monstrous Rage when you're warping, so it was a matter of what to combine it with.
Green is too slow and too unreliable, white might just be the strongest, but you need a lot of cards that are both rares and have just the most hideous art so here's where I'm ending up.
It's currently a combination of mobilize with Weftstalker Ardent and warp with haste giving isntants, with some blue for card draw and some random prowess and tap.
I tried a bunch of shit, including Kavaron Turbodrone (too slow), Stormshriek feral (just a bad card), various return to hand and tap target creature cards, plasma bolt and card draw.
I have never once had the chance to use the Cori Mountain Monastery's special ability in like 20-30 games. Stock Up does its job, so I'm really puzzled as to what the correct combination here is. The monastery is theoretically perfect if I end up in a topdeck duel against a discard deck, but discard decks have a hard time against this deck because warp means you're casting your cards twice. Nova Hellkite is especially nasty against them. You cast it for 3, then he warps out and he's totally safe in the warp until you are ready to call him out again.
And yes, are random 1-2-3 copy cards because I don't have more. I'm reluctant to craft any more rares or mythics for this deck, even if that Quantum Riddler is hitting hard enough to be tempting. Turn 3 flying, draw a card, swing for 7 with either Wild Ride or Full Bore makes for an unpleasant surprise.

I didn't know that's a thing. It's a bit limited though? None of these would draw me a card and it only gives me a major discount on the Mechanozoa (2 mana) and Quantum Riddler (also 2 mana). I can see it being fantastic with the Riddler, who immediately replaces the card you just used to cheat him in. On the Hellkite it's not helpful because his big thing is haste and he only gets to use that once per turn.
I'll try and replace the Mental Modulation and one of the Stock Up copies with these and see what happens.

After trying out Splash Portal in a dozen or so games, it's not suitable. I could see it working in a more control and value oriented deck, but this one has no late game.
Between the Weftsalker Ardent, Memorial Team Leader and the Nova Hellkite, there are just too many cards that it doesn't combine with.
I could see it working in a green/blue warp deck which has more high value cards and ETB effects to work with, but this deck really demands instant and early pressure because it doesn't have the removal capacity to get rid of things that generate value on board like the hydra.

You really have to draw one of the two blue cards in the deck for it to work.

So, I've been drafting ELD since its still available for some reason despite schedule showing it was supposed to leave on the 29th. I never played on paper, but is there really any way to beat a well built mill deck? It seems insurmountable if they have the multiple Merfolk, counters, and run away together copies. I was black with heavy removal, but my deck obviously doesn't do anything against a deck that doesn't want a board state and actively prevents one from forming.

Oh hey here's an interesting card to put into the blue/green warp deck.
This guy will draw a card every time you warp and if you've got ETB effects, he can let you retrigger them. And he turns particularly effective when you're doing some casual ramping.

No, mill was the absolute best deck in ELD, the only reason it didn't completely run over draft was because everyone knew it was the best deck and stole cards whenever possible. In quick draft the bots were dumb and didn't do that, so it was basically mill mirrors every game. I think that and the gates deck in ravnica were actually the ones that forced wotc to adjust the bots to act more like players.

Yes, just not much in blue, but as it turns out, there is a green version of the frog too, which hands out 1/1 counters.
Here's a pile of cards that could theoretically go inside and then the version I actually have the cards to test. First game I tried in unranked was hilarious, I got lucky and drew the blue frog, which proceeded to print cards for me turn after turn.

3/3 wins in unranked so far with my test deck, I'm going to sleep it's too late to keep going for now.
The first two were easy wins, the 3rd I had to mulligan and had to fight hydra + 2 ouroboros while land screwed, but you only need 4 lands to do most of your tricks. It was an extremely close win, I very rarely see games that really come down to the wire like that.

Pretty mediocre 2-1 to go with the pretty mediocre deck. Two opponents basically did nothing, the third dropped t4 ouroboroid one game then t3 ouroboroid the next, while I had no removal either time. Can't even really give a proper AAR since I barely played the deck. There was some decent sac synergy going on though, one turn I warped beckoner to buff a faithful, both crewed lumen frigate. Then swarm culler swung in and sacrificed the faithful, which came back and took out one of my tokens for two more cards. Delicacy was also great as both removal and fodder, could also just trigger void itself in a pinch, for tragic trajectory.

after turn 3 it's strictly better. it enriches your draws. i'd rather draw from a 48 card pile that has 6 counterspells in it than a 49 card pile with 6 counterspells in it. it's that simple. it does make the deck slightly slower. perhaps 4 is too much. but 0 is not optimal. i have been thinking and maybe 2 is the right number, and one valgavoth, and cut the land count perhaps. i'm not good enough at math to optimize i'll just have to feel it out, but i did just have to mulligan a hand with 2 cipt and i ended up losing the match to a rdw.

Nabbed another 3-0 with a fun UB list. Tons of late game in this one with hivepool and rupture and the big artifact creatures, the only challenge was staying alive until then. Also a bunch of playable rares, this run was a great haul. Going psionicist into titan on t4 is gigavalue. Hell, psionicist into any of the 3 drops is pretty good, it's practically green tier ramp in blue. Vocalist never got to pop off, despite a number of great ETBs here. Selfcraft was a bit awkward, didn't really have fodder for it. Probably should've ran lost in space over it. Tractor beam won a game by stealing an elegy acolyte, god bless. Nanoform also worked well with it, untapping any stolen creature to use as a blocker. Escort had a fun combo with mechanozoa, disabling a blocker and swinging in with a 6/4 to scare people. Mechanozoa also worked nicely with infiltrator if double spelling wasn't available. Maybe it was just poor draws but I wasn't impressed with alpharael, I often wanted to keep my artifacts so he just cycled.

the mono blue mill deck was hilariously broken in ELD.
the bots made it so that you could force it every time, and the experience was so miserable that it got human draft fast-tracked iirc, bot draft used to be the default.
the one deck that had a decent matchup into mill was mono red aggro? I think. so if you play ELD force either mono blue or mono red.

Premier is probably better than quick draft, but the unfortunate consequence of mixed pod play on arena really shows in formats like this, where you get paired against someone who got everything they could want for the best color(s). Draft lands are abyssmal idk what it is, it's like if they want to force you to win or lose they just give you a starting hand with all one land color and spells of the opposite color it happens too often.

so it turns out the critics were right, and i should have known better. but only partially right. do think 1 valgavoth is right, as is 2 fabled passage, particularly when there are no turn 1 plays. however i know everything is factored in to the the shuffler, if your deck can screw you it will, and this deck absolutely does need an untapped land on turn 2/3. now it is possible that happens, you draw only those 3 lands, but extremely unlikely, and i think the value these lands provides is greater than the whammy chance, but i'm aware that is part of the calculations when it comes into rigging my draws. but again, think the value these lands provide is significant and ultimately improves the deck and its draws.
ended up cutting some lands as well and adding unravel, do wish ertai's scorn was still legal but this is probably the best i can do, that 4/2 plot druid is really bad for me and unravel is strong against that.
