I feel like the "snarlfangs" should have some sculpted detail that visually differentiates them from simple wolves. Like some fungal growths on their head. Or an exposed venom sac or something. Are there any decent guides to painting specific materials like polished jade or obsidian? I swear there was a video on painting a Saurus on youtube at one point that used a jade look for the weapon and I'm pretty sure it was Duncan when he still worked at GW. I don't think they're at a creative dead end but I also think it's not abnormal for larger ranges to contain more variance in models. Gitz, Soulblight, Stormcast, Skaven all have some sort of subtheme going on, I'm sure NH will move into more areas over time.

Honestly, take the bull furnace as a base, make the head area look a bit like this alien from Ben 10, and give it hands or melee weapons for arms, and it's pretty much what I'd envision a "soul furnace" to look like. Make the belly a n open-mouth skull where the corpses or souls are shoved in by the attendants. They even painted it with green balefire colors for some reason.

I think we will get a second wave, unless the army is an unmitigated flop which seems unlikely. But I hope it has nothing to do with the Infernal Guard.

First off, that's a very specific thing from specifically their Fantasy lore. Bringing it into AoS wouldn't make sense. Also I just generally don't like their aesthetic. It's very dull compared to, like, all other Chorf stuff.

I hope the second wave goes into new territory to really establish Helsmiths as distinct from Chorfs. More Daemon Engines/animated statues would be great.

Same reason I adore the Ynnari in 40k, I love seeing all the different cultures and aesthetics on the tabletop side-by-side and the whole idea of arch enemies forced to not just work together, but fight shoulder to shoulder to defeat a greater foe is something I always enjoy.

actually without getting too technical there are tools in zbrush (one of the softwares the sculptors use) i think its called micromesh, that allows you to replace every polygon on a surface with an instance of another object.

so sculpt out a rough boat shape, import a skull, micromesh and select the boat as the target and the skull as the instance, and bam. commit the micromesh, boat made of skulls. whole thing takes like 30 seconds. after you commit it, you can then manipulate the individual skulls by doing a split-->split parts to subtools option to adjust the ones on the end that are falling away.

if i had to guess thats probably how they did it. im sure you could also do something similar in blender but im less familiar with that workflow and im pretty sure GW uses zbrush in their studio, or at least they did as of the artist showcase from a few years back

To me it's the dark ages but I only played at the start of 3e. Compared to 3e we're getting more releases but the game itself feels like it's afraid of writing rules that could cause a new player to get upset or whatever the fuck you want to call npe. Also cutting some core shit like vampire lord on zombie dragon or weapon loadouts like grave guard with two weapons really hurts.

Also feels like there's less experimental releases and less fluff stuff compared to 2e and 3e. I get the feeling that some core people that actually had a hand in 2e or world building left the company and there's not much internal conviction behind the game. I know Jervis Johnson retired beginning of 3e and Sam Pearson recently left though he wasn't involved in AOS for that long. Phil Kelley is still around though I believe.

Tzeentch is all about change, about being ambitious and having hope of seeking more. Of desiring more knowledge and power at any cost. All that matters is plotting, knowlrdge and change.

Nurgle is the opposite. He's all about stasis through a self-repeating cycle, of giving up hope and accepting nothing matters. He's all about spreading despair like a disease with a joy. Nurgle in his own way is jovial, treating them like Grandchildren, granting them plagues like a "gift"(even if the people try to resist them).

But the same thing you said about Khorne and Slaanesh is the same imo. A Nurgle worshipper will never find true satisfaction because he already gave up, while Tzeentch worshipper is unsatisfied because he is inevitably an ambitious pawn and... hope can be scary thing.
