You might be underestimating the time and effort required to 3D model something that large and complex at 1:1. Using scans is simply more time efficient. If standard Baneblade scans are out there, then there are Forge World scans.

For a few days yeah if work or other life stuff puts a stop to my printing project. Between projects, no. Back in the bottle, in a container, in a storage unit, out the house.

I tend to print in projects rather than just printing the odd model here or there, so when I set my printer up it's for a few days or a week or whatever. Makes it easier to justify leaving the resin in the vat because it's for a finite amount of time.

I usually dont print in "projects", but try to use up one bottle at a time, or more than one if necessary.
If i'm done with whatever i was planning to print, i then just fill the plate with some basing bits, sandbags, or an odd but interesting miniature to paint at some point and print 1-2 more plates to get rid of the resin.
Filling it back to a bottle, or keeping bottles with 30% resin inside.. idk.. i rather get rid of it.

if you want good minis off an FDM machine you kind of just need to print SUPER slow, with a tiny nozzle, and very good cooling.
mate of mine got really into making the ultimate voron 0 mini machine, it had extra fans that blew from all sides onto the mini, to stop droop, the hotend had two volcanos to keep the fans from cooling the plastic too fast, he would run it at something like 5mm/s, and used 2 0.01mm extruders, one for dissolvable support material, which was a bowden extruder, and the direct drive for the ABS, which he vapor smoothed.
the end product took 12 hours to print an admittedly very nice half of a space marine, which post vapor smoothing looked a LOT like a poorly cleaned resin mini.
in the time it took him to print a full marine i had run off 4 plates of marines on my mono x.

Nobody bothers really. To scan, you would have to buy a huge ass model, then scan it for hours, and spend even more hours to fix all the flaws digitally too, and then maybe you get to sell your files to 5 people because its so specific?
Especially if there are near perfect 1 to 1 re-sculpts of all those tanks already.

Its far more easy and benefitial to anyone who scans to spend those hours to scan the current plastic box sets, and sell those files to 100+ people because everyone hungers for the newest releases.

I've had massive failures my last 5 prints, found some lizardmen scans who've have been giving me a fuckton of problems. I'm not sure exactly what's causing this, could be the settings, i lowered my layer height by a few um, but the test prints i did when i did that came out fine, or it could be that i accidently got water-washable instead of my standard resin, and it doesn't mix with the tabletop resin i mixed in.
Thoughts? I've printed the aggrodons twice, 5 at a time, but only one came out in a usable state. I'm pretty sure this isn't a support issue, as i just copied the chestplates they have, and 3 out of 5 failed despite being identical.

1. Feudal Worlds Aren’t Technologically Advanced

Feudal worlds, in 40K lore, are essentially stuck in the medieval era (think swords, armor, castles, peasants, and knights). Their tech level is nowhere near capable of producing, repairing, or maintaining advanced technology like lasguns, tanks, or engines. These worlds are focused on basic survival, agrarian economies, and the occasional warlord's feuds. The Imperial Guard, on the other hand, is all about standardized, industrial-scale military equipment, including lasguns, Chimeras, and tanks.

2. The Role of the Adeptus Mechanicus

In the 40K universe, when a world is inducted into the Imperial Guard, the Adeptus Mechanicus (the tech-priests) are the ones responsible for supplying, maintaining, and ensuring the Guard is equipped with proper technology. A feudal world, with little-to-no relationship with the Mechanicus, would be a huge liability. Without access to the Adeptus Mechanicus' massive forge worlds, they couldn’t produce or repair the necessary equipment for an Imperial Guard regiment. The Mechanicus also controls the manufacturing of lasguns, tanks, and the infrastructure that powers Imperial forces.

The Guard isn't just handed these weapons out of nowhere; they rely on the Adeptus Mechanicus' sacred tech. Without Mechanicus involvement, a feudal world would only have access to primitive gear, or, in some rare cases, scavenged Imperial tech that would be in poor condition and unreliable.
Anonymous No.96379646 >>96379675
>>96379461
3. Training and Infrastructure

Feudal societies lack the infrastructure to build, maintain, or even properly train with high-tech gear. The Guard's advanced weapons and vehicles aren't just handed out like candy; they require years of training, specialized tech skills, and complex logistics. Even if a feudal world was to be β€œdrafted” into the Imperial Guard, their soldiers would be equipped with whatever they could muster. Most likely, that means axes, crossbows, or perhaps some basic lasgunsβ€”assuming they even had access to the proper tech at all.

Even if a regiment of feudal soldiers was sent off to war, they'd probably be a mix of poorly trained peasants with whatever weapons the Mechanicus decided to provide them. The logistics of maintaining lasguns, tanks, or any other advanced tech would be completely beyond them. Any regimental vehicles or specialized units (like artillery or armor) would either be limited or completely absent.

4. The Mechanicus’ Role in Arming the Guard

Let’s clarify how the Imperial Guard gets its gear. The Adeptus Mechanicus is the key player here. They provide the Imperial Guard with all of its weapons, armor, and vehicles through the Imperium’s sprawling industrial network. When a world sends troops to fight in the Emperor’s name, the Mechanicus ensures that those soldiers have the equipment they need. Without their involvement, even if a feudal world is raised to fight in the Emperor’s service, it’ll be sending its people off with a patchwork of whatever can be scavenged or gifted by the Mechanicus.

TL;DR: Feudal worlds in 40K can't produce or maintain high-tech gear like lasguns or tanks. The Mechanicus arms Imperial Guard regiments, and feudal worlds would be severely lacking in the tech and infrastructure needed to properly equip an army.

From a quick glance at your list, it doesn’t look like any of the Forge World Warhammer 40k models you mentioned have been included in the major 3D scan packs that have circulated on 4chan or Reddit. Most of the packs that have surfaced so far tend to focus on more common plastic kits or popular units from the main Games Workshop line, rather than the more niche or resin-only Forge World models. It’s possible they just haven’t been scanned yet or haven’t been shared publicly.

>printing something cool looking
>printing something that is obviously meant to be a GW vehicle, but has a unique design
>printing something that is obviously a Leman Russ (or any other GW vehicle) so it wont stick out next to other GW vehicles
>printing something that is 1 to 1 copy to something GW sells, to trick people into believing its a real GW model

Actually, I change my answer. I didn't see your earlier pic of the item in the slicer. It could be that your exposure time is fine, but the specific area that you're seeing delamination is due to not having enough supports. The rest of the model is supported adequately and prints as expected, but the delaminated part is kind-of-printing-kind-of-not because it's where the supports change from being adequate to being insufficient. You could try adding more supports and see if that helps. If you're bothered about the support scarring then my suggestions would be to dial in your support tips to be as small as possible (this results in occasional print failures for me, but I don't mind because I get virtually no support scarring) or increase your exposure time to help those layers bond a little more securely.

not really, I have use it before, elegoo standar grey.
also noticed that when I make supports, some times they should be appart, but during printing they cluster, which make it worst to remove them... and other times it scares that some times the supports are already removed from the model, the print could be fine, but if is that easy to snap, maybe because of that im getting other errors.

From the scan you get a pointcloud that gets turned into a polygon mesh, often with defects and lost details.
Haven't done it myself, but from some scanned files you can tell that they used some sculpting software to smoothen some areas and resculpt some details. Depending on the person it can look wonky, its a hands on process after all.
Others use the scan just as a base and remodel it from the ground up, just with the scan to guide them. So like tracing an image in 2D.

For something like tanks, tracing is way better because of all those flat areas.

"Most of what people call 'scans' are actually just photogrammetry of painted models. Even then, the setups are often lacking, and they don't qualify as true 3D scans. Some of the earliest high-quality captures were done with laser scanners, which offer far more precision.

Unfortunately, there’s a growing trend where newer hobbyists use Blender and ZBrush to clean up and refine their "scans" and have build a sort of cult of personality around themselves. If you question their workflow or results, you're often met with dogpiling rather than discussion.

For context, I work with laser scanning professionally. I know how to properly process and handle scan data using the right software. The only thing I don't have at home is access to the $20,000 laser scanner that lives at work.

You realize that any STL file, no matter the price, gives you the option to print as many as you want or need, compared to your single purchase from GW?

I have yet to see someone ask 60 for some scans, but i even think 20 for a single character model scan is too much, when most single character models on cults or MMF cost around 3-5.
And yet, if i really needed a very specific GW model, i would rather buy the scan instead of the plastic these days. But luckily, the market is so full of proxies that i do not see the need for anything "original" any longer.

I have an Artillery Genius printer lying around that I got as a gift and never used, but I've no idea on where to start and it's been collecting dust. I have no knowledge of how to work it and very rudimentary 3d modeling experience.

Here's my take on that guy trying to get the Chimera, Baneblade, and Leman Russ raw files:

1. If these modellers had any sense and used the same base model for different configurations, you should still be able to measure their fixes against the real-life model you presumably have.

2. But, if each scan is one-of-a-kind and every fix is different, then you're pretty much screwed.

Take a good look at the models and see if they’re unique. If they are, just forget it. At that point, it’s pretty clear these are just trash scans, which I’m starting to believe myself.

I used solutionlesn leman russ to fit the plastic leman russ. It fit perfectly except for the front sponson. The stl had a solid front sponson while the real kit has just flat panels. I had to remove the guides for the panels so that the solid sponson would rest flat against the front

1. If they had any sense they would've used a single leman russ hull for their variants.
>Battle Tank, Vanquisher, Exterminator, Eradicator, Demolisher, Punisher, Executioner, Conqueror, Annihilator, Incinerator

And that's not even including..
>Destroyer Tank Hunter, Thunderer Siege Tank, Atlas Recovery Tank

If they did use a single hull then you at least have some standardization and makes it easier to work with if they didn't, don't bother as it's too complicated to work with 50x unique models with unique fixes.

How are these hulls even different to a degree that it matters?
Anonymous No.96416252 >>96416508 >>96416968

He did use a single hull for all the "plastic" leman russes. And I disagree, I think he should have copied the turret and hull for each variant separately. As it is, the measurements are identical to the real kit, but the pieces can differ a bit in their details (very minor differences)
Anonymous No.96416344 >>96416508
>>96416177
Games Workshop offers a single hull, with differences mainly in the cannons, weapons, and upgrade kits. Forge World, on the other hand, provided three separate kits, each adding additional resin parts to the Games Workshop hull. These kits also include different cannons, weapons, and additional upgrade options, though most of these Forge World kits are no longer available. The Mars Alpha is the only one still around, and it's essentially a parts kit for the Games Workshop hull, focusing on resin components and weapon options.

Let’s set aside the Forge World kits. If he didn’t start with the stock Leman Russ hull and turret as a base for standardization, then don’t bother. You’ll just end up with 7 variants of the same hull and turret, all differing only because he didn’t take the cannon and weapons and mount them on the scanned stock hull and turret.

it's just too much of a hassle and it shows the guys level of skill.
