compound siege is useless without volkus, datacards get outdated almost immediately (and can be obtained literally for free) and ratlings are a 2box team
If you waited a month or so for (probably) the same price you could've gotten the tomb world box which would get you an actual killzone

So I am looking at making a Emperors Children (Legionary) KT

I am looking at the roster that I can take and I just want some opinions, nothing rules wise or "what is the best equipment to win" I'm just thinking about what models I want to use to make /mydudes/ though I suppose this is more of a /wip/ question

Right now I am thinking

Aspiring Champion = Terminator Model (warded armor)
Chosen = Old Lord Kranon Model (friend is gifting it to me)
Anointed = Infractor/Tormenter with Daemonette bts
Balefire Acolyte = Not sure on this one
Heavy Gunner = Noise Marine with Blastmaster (it's all heavy weapons)
Gunner = Maaaaaaybe another Noise Marine, otherwise infractor/tormenter as needed
Shrivetalon = Flawless Blade with 2 swords
Butcher = Flawless Blade with phoenix spear from Lord Exultant
Icon Bearer = possibly another terminator / Lord Exultant?
Warrior = Tormenter/Infractor

Being Emperor's Children and vain, I think they deserve to all be unique

Sure it is, you just worry about numbers and mechanical integrity to much in a universe where, who was it? Ragnar Blackmane or some other Space Wolve Captain was the one to kill Ghazghull Thraka. He's still gonna be put on a 32mm base like all the rest. He uses the same weapons because it a show of skill, one blessed by She Who Thirst does not require some storm bolter, a single well placed and beautiful shot from a bolt pistol is just as effective as anything else beyond the killing stroke of their phoenician blade. This champion will also have better saves thanks to the wonderful marks of Slaanesh upon his warded armor (2+ save) unlike those below him (3+ save) and he moves the same due to these blessings granting him unnatural strength within his legs to better propel him forward in combination with the inner workings of the warded armor.

it's all set in 40k anon, any story, any novel, any bit of lore is at the whim of whoever. Things are loose enough that it's all viable at any given time. Besides terminators were in kill team a time ago in older editions, this is nothing new.

I'm going to buy a box of ratlings and ogres, and that'll give me the markers and guys I need. (I'll also be magnetizing the bullgryns)
It looks like I can get the standard universal tokens for pretty cheap from Etsy rather than having to buy the rules book.
I'd like data cards/ops cards to be printed out. So I can either buy the ratling datacards (and that includes ops, etc?) or I can print them.
My LGS has terrain and players, so I'm set there.
Any suggestions on which tokens to buy and easy way to print nice data/ops cards if I don't buy them? Looks like no one is printing nice laminated ones for sale on etsy

I only play casually at the store and with friends, so I like to focus more on the narrative aspect personally. I enjoy making /mydudes/ and giving them little bullet points. Not like full on paragraphs, but just these little details beyond "this is my leader, this is my gunner, this the icon bearer" etc etc. It strikes up conversations at the store, it's just FUN ya know?
>>96346317
Oh I'm well aware, but I simply wanted someone in Terminator armor, and I figured if anyone deserves terminator armor it would be the leaders or the icon bearer. So with the thought of "If I were to put someone in terminator armor, how would I justify that?" and looking over the rules saw warded armor and through open interpretation and opinion decided that would be my through line towards the simple act of wanting even just a single model in terminator armor.
>>96348514

Is it just me, or is Kill Team 3.0 not very... conducive to narrative play?

The KT3 tournaments I've gone to (completely different stores in different towns) seemed to attract players who were very mechanically and technically focused, but seemed shocked and surprised that I even named my models.

I wasn't put down for it, but that reaction alone tells me that even the bare minimum of having a name/rank associated with /yourdudes/ is seen as unusual, let alone actually having a story reason to fight your opponent.
Anonymous No.96361478
>>96361377
It doesn't do much to encourage it for sure. The complete removal of narrative rules is another step away from it and KT21 already wasn't great at it. Fixed teams and specialists have done a lot, I think, to actually remove the need for players to make up their own stuff, because even though the new teams have much more detailed rules that are cool they remove the need for the players to come up with those special things themselves.
And then tournaments of course aren't going to be helping, since those there are encouraged to value performance in the mechanical side over the fluff. Nobody will want to spend even a few minutes of their tournament match time and brain juices on discussing the lore of their team vs the opponent, and the matchmaking in the tournament won't care who matches up against who.
Just do it if you want to. Borrow inspiration from the loose motivation examples in KT21 - my kasrkin are munitions caretakers, so no matter who I face I can throw some story together about them wanting ammo resources or materials, and that story can be put together whether my opponent wants to collaborate on that story or not, because it doesn't depend on anything in their lore. I once faced ultramarines veterans with them with crystals as objective markers and figured that those crystals were important materials for specialist bolter shells that both the ultramarines and the deathwatch team my kasrkin supplies would be interested in. My opponent didn't need to do anything which was great because he was focusing on learning the rules.

Who are
/yourdudes/?

To start the convo,
This is Iron Hands Kill Team FE-VI!
Led by deathwatch veteran Brother Sgt. Pallas,
Each member of this team is a member of clan Sorrigol, and helps to defend the Medusan sector against the foul xenos menace. Often deploying to border worlds, they find themselves able to operate for extended periods when necessary away from their ship thanks to their cybernetic enhancements and independent nature as a team.

>Watch Fortress Interius
My deathwatch team. They specialize in action against infiltrating xenos threats, and have had plenty of run-ins with genestealer cultists and dark eldar. I've written a paragraph or two of lore for each of the models in the team.
>DELTA
The hidden inquisitorial team working from within the same watch fortress, logistically disguised as a janitorial team.
>The Kill Counts
Also attached to the watch fortress, a team of kasrkin soldiers tasked by the adeptus administratum with safeguarding and procuring ammunition stores for the inquisitorial fortresses. Really meticulous about ammo logging, as is to be expected.
>The Fire Brigade
Working in the same sector as the above teams, and frequently alongside them, a team of Navy Voidsmen. Their red-orange suits are used as camouflage for when they inevitably set everything on fire. Their unit is single-minded in purpose, and are basically in universe competitive sweatlords.
>Angels of Absolution
My oldest team, and their lore was built from an older campaign started before KT18 released so it's got a lot of details and sounds really fanfictiony, but it boils down to being an isolated force consisting of both primaris and non-primaris marines that are not currently in contact with the chapter.
>Emperor's Shadows
More of a painting and modelling exercise and wanting to use this obscure chapter than a lore interest. Honestly, I feel like "they're space marine ninja samurai" is enough character.
>Confessor Reude's Retakers
Sanctifiers team based on a group of flamer-wielding fanatics led by the titular confessor that appeared in my current roleplaying campaign shortly before the reveal of the box. Their rank-and-file have a pretty high replacement rate, but there are some more notable characters among them.
>Dark Mechanicus team
Actually never named these, but they're obsessed with perfect measurements which caused their fall to slaanesh. Really fun team to kitbash.

My dudes are part of my Auriac 5th Recon regiment. The "Hive Butchers". The Kill Team is lead by Warchief Wresk, and they only accept true sons and daugthers of Auriac into their ranks. (i.e. members of the og regiment before the fall).
Losses of the regiment are ever present so they recruit whomever they can press into service.
Wresks Warband sees themselves as an elite force within the regiment, and their successful combat history speaks for themselves, so they often get sent to the most difficult missions behind enemy lines, to assassinate or sabotage and such. Its questionable how long they can go on tho, because they wont be able to replace losses with pure recruits forever. Maybe the regiment will one day return to its homeworld yeah, that would be kinda just like in Darktide, so its not set in stone yet

both
tiny sculpts but with the same level of detail and amount of greebles as regular sculpts which makes them a nightmare to paint
and gameplay-wise they are a pretty high skill ceiling team where you'll need to have good positioning, understand when where and how to utilize your ploys, abilities and equipment to their fullest, and then also have a good grasp on the game flow, because even a small mistake on your part will most likely result in you losing operatives due to how squishy ratlings are
bad positioning? you just lost an operative
got too aggressive and overextended? you just lost an operative, or a couple
too scared to advance so you sit back and turtle? you just lost the objectives
etc etc
I like ratlings, but I would never recommend them as someone's first kill team, let alone first ever minis (unless I wanted that person to never touch the hobby ever again)

I like that they're a high skill ceiling team that I can really grow into, but you make good points about it being a pretty "trial by fire" team that might turn me off from the game if I get too frustrated.
I'll keep focused on having fun and learning each game. I like the idea of ratlings and ogryns (and the look, obviously). I'll try to play methodically, learn my ploys and equipment, keep my ratties out of danger, my bullgryns locking people down and not overly worry about objectives for the first few games
I think I'm most worried about fucking up the gluing/assembly (painting, too, but I don't plan on doing that for a bit). Any tips for that?

I wouldn't really bother with much magnetizing
ogryns are p. much an all around downgrade from bullgryns, ratlings have enough firepower as is and need someone on the frontlines who can take a punch instead of pack a punch, and because of the way their arms attach at shoulders, it's a pain in the ass to magnetize swappable arms
now with bullgryns, you have a choice between power maul and grenadier gauntlet - between the 2 options the gauntlet is very situational, it might be good on gallowdark against horde teams, but imo it's not very worth overall
The only really meaningful option swap is brute shield vs slab shield and it can be achieved pretty easily without magnets

I'm a Kill Team dabbler. Currently playing Breachers, but want to branch out. I. thinking either I build up on Breachers by getting an Inquisition box, or change it up by going with Fellgore Ravagers.

This is partly influenced by my autistic need to have any match up make canonical sense. (ex: "But whyyyy would my Breachers be fighting your Death Korps!?") Both the new teams have ready made excuses to fight anyone;
Inquisition = "You are guilty of heresy". Ravagers = "We are Unga Bunga Goatman rapists that just popped out of a Hell portal"

Anyway, who do the /ktg/ Anons vote for?

- Exaction Squad
- Nemesis Claw

>>96390301
Depends on the team
Some teams have genuine use for them, mostly conditionally replacing specialists that don't have much use in a given situation
Sanctifiers have some specialists that are only situationally useful so you'll want the regulars where those specialists aren't of use, while the exaction squad has just really nice regular guys
If it's a specific team you're looking at, knowing which could help answer that

Just a general inquiry. Considering getting into Kill Team and recognizing the options to team composition for most factions. It has me wondering whether it's worthwhile to get a second of the same box set for the flexibility of more generic operatives as well as alternate weapon options for specific models.

To get specific while thinking about timeliness, how about the usefulness of generic operatives for the "year 1" Kill Team releases that are set to retire?

Kommandos might still want to replace their flamer with an extra boy, those boyz are really useful and a flamer only situationally so.
Death korps wants an extra box, not to replace their specialists, but to take at least 3 of their 4 extra warrior operatives.
Novitiates I'm not sure about the optimal build but they will be just fine without a second box.
Pathfinders not sure, but I'm fairly certain they don't care for warriors.
Legionaries are more about choosing which of their specialists to bring, warriors just don't work unless you're ultra sweaty I think.
Corsairs not sure, but I'm fairly certain they don't care for warriors.
Blooded may want to use warriors to replace the ogryn and/or commissar depending on the matchup.
Phobos definitely wants a second box, but of reivers, because reiver sergeant is by far the best leader and having 1-3 reiver warrriors depending on matchup is really good.
