▶What is Kingdom Death?
Kingdom Death is a tabletop minture brand stared by Adam Poots and operated by himself and his Team that later spun off into a miniature based bored game funded by two very successful kickstarter campaigns.

▶What is Kingdom Death: Monster?
Monster is a Nightmare Horror cooperative boss battler/miniature hobby game for 1-4 players about hope in a strange world of bizarre monstrosities and perpetually darkness. Players take on the role of survivors that band together to form a settlement, fighting monsters, crafting weapons and gear, and developing their civilization to ensure survival from generation to generation.

The Game is broken up into 3 phases:
1. During your Hunt Phase your band of survivors traverse the world of KD in pursuit of their quarry.
2. After successfully tracking your quarry you will begin the Showdown Phase, where you must fell these horrific creatures in order to acquire precious resources.
3. After the battle, your survivors wander home with loot in hand to begin the Settlement Phase. Arm yourself by developing new weapons and bizarre structures to prepare for next year's hunt.

A successful game campaign takes place over the course of 25 to 30 'lantern years' maximum, marked by completing one full phase cycle. Watch as your settlement grows and witness the survivors write their own narrative as they age. Hone your strategy and learn from your mistakes to overcome the immense odds in this cruel and twisted nightmare scape.

I really hate the scale creeping KD:M went through. Not even so much the survivor minis as much as monster minis. Red Witches makes 0 sense now, when their original sculpts were more or less survivor-sized. Parasite Queen literally got more than doubled in size too. Weird choices.

the scale creep is inevitable in long running miniature games however:
white speakers and by proxy red witches have always been amazonian size, they are describe as "large women" and in artwork they always tower over survivors, an average size survivor is up to titty level with a white speaker.
the parasite queen was a bit weird though, I think they just wanted to beef her up a bit since she is so important to the world.

I try not to run arc survivors as solo anymore, only as duo or trio. It really sinks too much time for book keeping, but when I do run arcs solo, I do the campaign option where I can choose what philos to add and pick, so I can just dodge ones that really require more time with their knowledges and shit.
My best advice would be to keep going, you memorize more and more with consistent playing and start to upkeep a lot of shit on autopilot, thus with time - you take less time.

Also, while Arc survivors are ridiculously more powerful than regular survivors, they also force you into using more than 4 same survivors throughout the campaign and the power creep goes well with CC system so you can hunt higher level monsters way earlier.

Wild this thread popped up right after my first game last night. We finished our first settlement round after tutorial lion. How necessary are the expansions to have fun? I haven't checked an faq yet, but has there been any fixes to stop game breaking shit? Or is it Finley tuned out of the box?

Base game has plenty of content but you might get tired of hunting antelope and lions. Gamblers chest is as big as the base game but gives you replacements for both of those monsters, a completely revamped survivor progression system and a lot more.

I would recommend trying out just the base campaign for a bit and the consider some expansions. If you don't want to blow your load on the GCE, Gorm, Dung Beetle Knight and Black Knight are some of my favorite expansions. DBK gives you a 4th monster node to hunt so spices up the late game and is a very cool fight. Dragon King is a stunning miniature, gives you a very hard campaign or can replace the phoenix. Not to get too meta but phoenix and dragon gear are both kind of underwhelming for how hard the fights are. I don't have Sunstalker but it does the same as dragon king. A new campaign or as a node 3 monster. Happy hunting.

Thanks anons. Ill glprobably get myself the GCE once we get through our initial run through. My play group is having a blast, even with the first attempt at the Lion leading to a loss. We ended up doing a first turn orbital bombardment with our rocks and punching the Lion in the sculpted balls while it dragged one of our female members all over the map. Named our first settlement 'Lions Bride', and made her, now with max insanity, the leader.

Bought it in 2018 or so, played for the first time in 2022 or so, but only like two rounds because I was playing with gf who didn't understand any of the rules so I was basically playing solo. Also, we have no fucking table big enough for everything, so we always had to move stuff in the living room. Plus, we're both ESL so playing in a different language adds another layer of tedium.

Not the same anon but ive been trying to buy this fugging game for at least 4 years now. Everytime I have some spare cash I can drop on the core game its out of stock. i used to check quite regularly but after the first year of it being constantly sold out I just started to really resent paying through the nose on ebay for a scalped copy being the only option to get it in an even slightly timely manner. I always seem to miss black Friday & getting the digital version seems pointless when a great deal of the appeal for me is the physical miniatures.

This game has taught me that there is no shortage of people asking for restocks, no matter how many Poots orders. There's always a hoard of people adking for reprints even though they just went through a pain in the ass resupply of them. It's never enough, that's the mark of a good game. Always leave them wanting more.

Now that im assembling in earnest, im finding that there's a ton of models with some really horribly fitting parts. Gold smoke is going to need a huge amount of green stuff gap filling and shaping. 90% of the Lion is huge seams. I love the models design and the game is very well tuned (so far, about to fight the butcher next session) but the quality sometimes needs alot ofnhelp.

I just took his and cut in half, took some rando smoke effect and elongated it a bit. Medium autosupports on lychee and everything printed fine. It's all in the file. The small part of the smoke effect breaks off easily, so watch out.

As someone who just started it and only had 2 sessions leading up to butcher: once you get it down, it's very simple as long as someone's taking notes. Our tutorial lion fight time was cut by 70% once we got the hang of it. The rules are very overt (in most cases) and as long as you read the card, your fine.

I see people say that survivors from the gambler chest with the philosophies are stronger than normal survivors. What makes that true, or when does that happen? You miss a lot of the free stat points you get from aging, do you not?

It's more like normal survivors are stronger early game, but arc survivors are much stronger late game.
Once you get rolling, arcs lets you throw whatever knowledges you want on any survivors and there's a few knowledges that are completely broken (homicidalism, faceism, romanticism, survivalism because of Shadow Ceasar).

The Pariah and Red Witches are absolute peak between the flavor and their mechanics but goddamn are they difficult and punish you in a bad way

KD sells both printed and poured resin minis, both of which are high quality but fragile. I wouldn't recommend either for tabletop, but if you want them for painting they're amazing. The detailing is incredible and there are usually no print lines.

KD is also very good about refunds and replacements for print defects too.

NMM looks good only on pictures, but on an actual 3d model it's not nearly as great as you think it is.
It is the best for display miniatures, but when dealing with pieces that you will be moving around and look at from different directions TMM is better more often than not.
Keep in mind that TMM doesn't mean slapping a random metallic color and then do edge highlight, that looks like shit simply because it's poorly done.
A decent TMM is miles better than your average NMM.

It's not mandatory, a lot of painters want to lean into the grimdark aspect and OSL lends well to that. There have been some really good entries to the contests with relatively flat lighting. You will definitely want to get good at glazing though.

Im not a fan of NNM for alot of KDM. It can usually look clean and immaculate, where KDM has a very dark and rusty feeling to me. painting every type of surface uses the same steps as nmm when done properly. painting how light interacts with a surface is universal beyond the absolute beginner stage. some surfaces are very shiny, others aren't, in either case you should be thinking about light sources.

Arc Survivors start off a bit weaker but mid-to-late game when you unlock some of the stronger knowledges and get more tools to get specific ones, they become absurdly powerful.

A late-game arc survivor with Dark Impulse can fairly easily push all his stats in the double digits. The Regalist base knowledge lets you run diagonally. Early game Marrowists can get 6 flat armor to every hit location meaning you get an incredibly tanky character that can be equiped with all your utility gear.
