Got new boners, got new gitz. Both my armies got cool new stuff that I like. Happy for ratfags getting a bunch of stuff, not super hype on much else personally but all of it was pretty good

Morning /aosg/
>tq
Just going over all of 4th releases
-skaven were a great and faithful refresh, which was all the army needed. Made me interested in the army which I never thought I'd say before
-stormcast was more stormcast. The army still doesn't do much for me but the new stuff looked good. I know it's not feasible and that they're practically designed for the role but damn some other faction needs to be put in the starter box. Never gonna happen though.
-honestly don't remember what orcs and std got lol
-gitmob, damn where to begin. Good looking minis but don't mesh with the rest of the army and horribly overpriced. Kinda killed the hype for me.
-soulblight had a great update, not much to say. Only negatives are them squatting the old wight on steed and old cado.
-don't get me started on idoneth
-kharadron was cool, new kit is full of character. Terrain is alright
-new deathbringer is cool but they squatted like 3 other kits instead
-new fec is cool
-new nighthaunt character looks nice but overshadowed by depressing tome
-chorfs I go back and forth on whether i like them or not. Currently not so much but eh I was never super into them.
That's all, thank you for reading my blogpost.

Nobody knows because Sigmar's burocracy is infamously shit and new ones can just pop up in specific places, while other places have pre-established subfactions present.
Seams like you can jsut declar you're making a new one and nobody stops you from doin it, like when some dude re-made Sigmarite Brotherhood to honour the loss of the real Sigmarite Brotherhood

just like space marines, as many as there needs to be. it is essentially infinite to accomidate yourdudes
that said, as far as actual recognized stormhosts in the lore, there are 8 really big ones with full page lore sections, then about another 20 official lesser stormhosts that are basically just color schemes in the painting sections of the battletomes, but the book does make it very clear that there can be any number of stormhosts, and as long as warriors keep dying and being reforged into stormcast, more stormhosts will keep appearing. it also mentions that if those warriors all come from the same area, in the book it lists an example of a society of winged warriors, that they might all get thrown together in a new stormhost that leans into those traits, like with excessive prosecutors.

He's specificially mentioned as going blind before meeting the spirit, which seems to be to all of shyish like the cow giants are to specific mountains.
I like the theory some anon put forward that teclis isn't "real" and is basically a hallucination made manifest. Supposedly lumineth have this thing were tyrion emits light and teclis reflects it, and this supposed to be part of their philosophy where tyrionic elves are more active and assertive, while teclisians are more reactive. I guess it would be fitting for "teclis" to be a literal reflection of tyrion's light.

+ model releases were great, one of the best years for sculpts
+ cool to see original aos armies finally get *something*
- i find the game side extremely boring and predictable, there's nothing that makes me excited to build a list for any of my armies.
- i don't really find the new ghb an upgrade but a sidegrade? you could always build your list around trying to score certain battle tactics, it just sped up the beginning of each round which I like, but it also made the game even more predictable. still prefer spearhead and 40k's card system, the latter especially since it punishes building skew lists.

GW aren't interested in that kind of subtlety or "gotcha" writing. Little Timmy's centrepiece model isn't just someone's delusion (outside of FEC at least, and they'll be damn upfront about it if that ever happens).
Also, when a God thinks something's real, reality tends to listen. Not that GW are liekly to have gone that route either.

It's been said before, but it seems like GW is pursuing a strategy of disentangling the model ranges of all their mainline wargames from each other, and doing the same with the individual armies of those games. I suppose the rules that let armies bring a mix of models from different factions are simply something that may have been sacrificed to fulfill that mandate.

They could've had something like "these Stormcast are cursed and know they will not make it back to Azyr", as a progression of the cursed skies.

Is it going to look too off putting if the shield on a chaos warrior isn’t the same color as the rest of their armor? Everything on a quick image search shows them being the same color

Rust and green should work, especially if you pay some attention with keeping the helmet as similarly in focus, and have some of that rust in the armor and some of the green on the shield (the chaos star could he in the same color as the armor and you could have various suppurating pores with green slime)

Guymer was apparently involved with writing the Blackened Earth campaign and used some of that stuff when writing about Gotrek's adventures in Greywater. No mention of Bindings, though.
Side note: BL's book output for AoS has really been garbage for the past couple years. So much of what they do is just Gotrek stuff, Gotrek spinoffs, stories about "iconics" like Drekki and Gunnar, republishing old stories as new anthologies/omnibuses, and giving work to Dale Lucas. It has got to be possible to do better than this.

"Yeah minis are cool but game's just not for me" is what I hear most from old fantasy fans by now. Still pretty rare though.

I decided to study some AoS lore last night in honour of the anniversary.
I remember in the early AoS years the haters would be all, "lol bubbles of reality lmao bad fluff".
Then that gradually transitioned as AoS stans put forth the idea that "actually bubbles of reality was bullshit criticism from people who didn't actually read the fluff"
From what I read... the first group was right.

The realms themselves are pretty fuckhuge but as you go farther from the centre, the land gets more saturated with the respective realm's magic and shit starts to get crazy and effectively inhospitable. Hysh' edge is bright enough to melt the literal god of light's eyes right out of his skull. The void between realms is also inherently anti-magic, so where the two meet things get pretty magically violent. Sometimes little crystallized chunks of this anti magic void fall down to the realms, which the tophat dwarfs use to fuck with magic users.
Anyway the subrealms are pretty weird but they're not that important usually. If the realms are essentially flat planets within a solar system then the subrealms are moons and asteroids.

Does anyone remember when you could bring like 120 skeletons in a list and still have room for some black knights and a VloZD and a Necromancer? Or being able to bring some Dryads and Tree Revenants alongside several Kurnoth Hunters and tree lords?
I hate how 4.0 has made the game this weird fuckin' elite stand-in-the-rings game.

It depends on a couple of things.
Do you want to cut out individual tiles, or do you want to cut out a square the size of a base and engrave a tile pattern into it? For the latter you need thicker card.
If you are cutting out individual tiles, how much texture and/or damage are you interested in applying to them? You may need thicker card for deep, layered damage. If you are happy with shattered tile and light cracks thin card should be ok.

There also seem to be "subrealms" that are parts of the 8, but it is unclear to me what that means in a lot of cases. Are they areas of the realms that physically abut them, or actually separate dimensions (if the latter that is more evidence for effectively infinite realms)

Wizards are born that way, and have to be thaught to not blow themselves up, that has been a thing since fantasy.
I dont see wht being in a realm of fire, be taxing on a fire wizard, People in different realms already take parts of respective personality, Ulguans are all quite and unasuming etc. So if anything, Fire wizard should feel the best in Aqshy

People from particular realms tend to have an affinity for casting that type of magic, and it's much easier to cast that lore in the realm because the ambient magic is everywhere, but your personality and shit like that are still a bigger thing that determines which lore of magic vibes with you best. People can learn multiple lores of magic anyway, though each new one is harder to learn and none are easier than the one you've got the most affinity for. The highest tiers of collegiate leadership have to learn all 8 in order to gain their positions of authority.

I think it was yeah. Marshal and squire iirc
Heard rumblings in the mortal realms.
Next edition or some time after GW are planning to give some proper narrative to the stormcast akin to the Horus Heresy but set in the present time. Sigmar is going to go missing and the lord commanders of multiple stormhosts will step up (like that cartholos guy) I was not told how many just the basic plot they are going to run with.
They are going to give more flavour to the stormhosts and are going to have stormcast die for good/disappear too with Sigmar missing. It will set up mysteries surrounding Sigmar’s disappearance and why some stormcast are not being revived. This will apparently lead to some stormhosts growing resentful and bitter as they had already been losing themselves/getting ptsd in the revivals and now feel Sigmar has abandoned them. Some fight to die for good and some are enticed by chaos to join/return to them as some were chaos worshippers in their past life.
This will pave the way for a stormcast civil war, the mortal realms as a result being trampled on. Apparently chaos stormcast are going to happen with different stormhosts falling to different chaos gods and then more generic ones like chaos space marines. They will be revived by the chaos gods but keeping the chance to die for good as the chaos gods are fickle.
Apparently they are going to flavour other stormhosts around other gods and races in aos a bit where stormhosts have given up on sigmar/or havent and went to other gods like Alarielle, Morathi, Teclis etc.
There is also going to be crusades across the realms for these mysterious bolts where the lord commanders will find them potentially and be infused with sigmars essence becoming more powerful and being able to have more control over the revival or their stormhost’s dead.
It wont be for a while apparently. They are trying to get a long term narrative in play so are in planning stages primarily. I have no idea on models but would assume in line with lore movements.

in theory, I would be good if GW put any effort into making the different Stormhosts feel different from each other. The models are basically blank slates, they would be great bases for conversions if GW had created lore that would inspire conversions.
In reality, I desperately want GW to stop focusing on Stormcast so much It's been ten years of hard work, hammering away to get Stormcast from impossibly boring to "meh". At this point I think it's actively hurting AoS to have such a dull army as the poster boys.

Again I really want gw to try and put another army in the starter box, just to see what happens. Stormcast are not as obnoxiously central to the setting as marines are, but they are the launch set minis for a reason, as much as I would like to see them deviate from that.

Warhammer started as a D&D ripoff, to be fair. Honestly thinking about it, pretty much all big fantasy IPs these days are based on either Warhammer, D&D, Lord of the Rings, or Conan, really. Game of Thrones also has some lingering influence, but mostly in a "Political Scheming is cool" sort of way. Fantasy is a very incestuous genre.

I wonder if the rules for the 4th edition armies of renown will be free in 5th even with new battle tomes
Stormcast lore rumour is bs.
Its models first then lore to set them up and go around them. Model time lines are about 3 years from concept to boxed. Lore/books are 1yr to 6 months.
GW are currently preparing for 40k next summer and are in the package design phase. SM vs Orks.
All i can say is for AOS, GW are sticking to stormcast. They are sticking to Chaos > Death > Destruction. SC are going coastal. Death are going coastal but not vamps.

Shut the fuck up you fake ass faggot.
I think Stormcast would be more successful if they copied the armor MK system from Space Marines more blatantly. Mk 2 armor has a different feel than Mk 7 armor despite the similar silhouette, and I think this not only itches the fancy of armor autists, but helps with distinction between chapters, companies, and units depending on how you want to collect your army. I know Stormcast technically have different armor types, but they all communicate the same aesthetic sense.

Idoneth killed alot of mermen and other sea civilisations. Maybe zombie mermen/surviving living ones as necromancers. It would be interesting and cool to see some non human death units/faction.
Not sure what coastal stormcast could look like maybe vanguard but a bit more naval with thunder cannons and lightning harpoons. Lightning vs Water would be a good fit.
They could create a naval game for aos too.

Bullshit, the premise of aos is that storm cast are already on the backfoot and a vast majority of the realms is owned by chaos worshippers. Stormcast haven't really done anything notable but lose since the first edition, and it doesn't make sense for beings that have sigmars essence literally attached to them to fall to chaos.
But hey maybe the lead creative is also responsible for the 4e rules direction and I could totally see the extra chromosome on display from that.

Yeah 4E was actually a drawdown on SC releases, they got...redone Liberators and Prosecutors, a new elite infantry unit, and a new elite cav unit. Plus the usual sprinkling of new heroes except half of those were also resculpts. The entire Ruination Chamber consists of like two infantry units and a couple of heroes. In exchange they wiped out everything released in 2E and a good chunk of 1E.
I do think eventually we'll get more Lord Commanders or whatever they're called to highlight different Stormhosts but it's not ever gonna be like Space Marines.

Despite being a generously packed bundle—boasting 24 Stormcast and 50 Skaven miniatures, terrain, two-sided boards, rulebooks, cards, and more—the Skaventide box's high price point significantly dampened its sales appeal. Both reviewers and players cited its steep cost: around £160 or approximately $265 USD, making it one of Games Workshop’s most expensive launch sets ever. Many potential buyers found the price prohibitive, especially amid tight personal finances and lingering economic uncertainty

It seems silly because it's typically a pretty straight forward answer, GW made too many, you can just buy the minis secondhand from someone else for cheaper and not need to buy 2 armys you may not want.
Stormcast don't have the same appeal as space marines even if they're cool, 40 clan rats sounds miserable to paint, the giant gattling cannon isn't what people knew about (people wanted rattling gunners which just came out later) like Dominion they made too many and so they'll just sit there because it's a niche expensive purchase that isn't gonna sell super big because it's the less popular variant of Warhammer and people still have no clue what AOS is even about.

Hey anons, I got my Alarielle built (not my best work but I can save it in the painting stage...)
I've already got Drycha and the Lady of Vines, I got a bunch of treelords thanks to Stormbringer. Are any other heroes or units worth slapping onto a list for Sylvaneth? I know Belthanos is supposedly good but anything else OTHER than him since he seems an obvious pick.

This is gpt and whatever but I do think the starter boxes are getting a bit steep. Even split down the middle it's a big ask for someone not fully committed, I feel like they're a hard sell for a mom walking into a gw store looking to buy her kid some warhammer. Same with the two tow boxes, great value but it's going to be out if budget for somebody not already convinced to buy into the game. Feel like they should scale down a bit with the 5th edition box. But what the fuck do I know.

>1) Skaven army can be mixed clans but is highly not recommended compared to each clans powers?
You are heavily encouraged to be mixed clan. You need Clanrats for most intents and purposes, and since Skryre got all their wizards gutted you might want a Grey Seer to be able to cast.
>2) I bought 2 weapon team, does that mean i can't use the other if my skaven aren't Skyre?
You can only have one skryre weapon team in a regiment that isn't lead by a skryre hero. So if you have an engineer leading the regiment, you can have more than one, but otherwise it's capped at one and you'll need another regiment to take more.
>3) What hero is usually recommended? Interested in Death master and Engineer. Galvaneer i have never seen players use him
Engineer vs. Galvaneer boils down to if you're taking Jezzails or Warpvolt Scourgers, respectively, since they only buff those units. If you're taking neither you might as well go for an Arch-Warlock since his buff is generic.

GW’s in a bit of a tough spot with choosing the boxes. Do they keep the big giga value boxes for edition launches but risk exactly what you said or do they start trimming down the launch boxes in favor of making them spearhead specifically? Because previously the boxes had no gameplay direction except for included battleplans. Soul Wars was probably the worst with its uneven unit sizes. It’s a tough situation that I think even GW has trouble figuring out what to do. For a rando like me it would make sense to do just 2 launch boxes. One, really, truly, but abundantly enough limited mega value box for superfans, and a more mass-printed spearhead launch box. I can’t toss out numbers of boxes for the mega set, but it clearly needs to be around 30-50% of what Skaventide and Dominion were considering how easy they are to find.
So Rob spilled a little about Chorfs this morning (he has seen the entire book)
Apparently they are a bit shit, you generate 'demonic power points' and you have to use them to 'power up' your units, without being empowered the units are pretty mediocre (he mentions the heroes not having a Ward, or the bull centaurs not getting charge bonuses, or the blunderbussy having no rend).
He is a pretty HARD Chorf stand and he was kinda depressing.
Has anyone else heard anything?

ships are 300-500pts each, infantry are 30-40pts a model except for arkanauts. like, a full army has already been reduced to 2-3 boats and 20-30 infantry, you cant make the armies any smaller, they are practically playing with a spearheads worth of models as it is and calling it an army.

Strong =/= enjoyable. Khorne is propped up by the AoR which is clearly busted but the concept is actually novel and fun. The rules are just overtuned. Which is something the devs should’ve considered when making it because the last time someone made an army with nothing but heroes, Grimwrath Bersekers, it cleaned fucking house at a 2-day and got emergency nerfed. I admittedly don’t know much about how KO is doing besides the RoR being good and apparently their melee is strong, which is not what you think when you read the tin for KO. Granted, I only mentioned “disappointing” and didn’t really define it, so that’s on me.

thanks, for the brass its vallejo metal color air copper-->proacryl flesh shade thinned with water 50/50-->drybrush gehenna gold from citadel, though on the recommendation of another anon i have since tried proacryls rich gold and its basically the same color as gehenna, but better consistency, cheaper price, dropper bottle with mixing ball and more paint per bottle, so i'd recommend it over gehenna if you can get it.
for the jade inlays its proacryl 50/50 jade and primary green mix-->drybrush primary green--> progressive drybrushes of primary green mixed with increasing amounts of PA bright ivory. i think i might have hit the jade with a thinned down shade before the drybrushing to bring back the cracks, but i dont remember.
the sentinel model has a lot of natural texture so it handles shades and drybrushes very well.

They kind of have multiple launch boxes already, in addition to skaventide there's like 3 tiers of "start here" boxes. But yeah with the succes of spearhead I could see them making the next starter set essentially a dual spearhead box. Probably on the beefier side like yndrasta's spearhead, around a 1000 points each (it's still a starter box after all). I'd be more interested in that size box personally, but again yeah I don't really know the details of gw's financials and what's optimal and everything. Maybe this is copium but I think you'd almost want your starter box to not be sold out immediately and have an easy way for beginners to buy into your game all edition long.

I like it desu, passes the rule of cool for me. I'm not a weapons autist so I have no idea how viable it would be but I guess it's based on these chinese polearm thingies, like the ones cathay have.

GW been forcing most things as online only, so not really. Just more attempted chokehold on the market.

I was going to just cut them completely out and maybe use a small amount of sand and glue to try and grout between them. I'll try the 1.5 mm. It should work out fine either way.

How does bronze plate armor with iron chainmail sound? I know it makes no sense, but is it too stupid or just stupid enough?

I have two questions.
1 - What will the new Age of Sigmar series premiering this September be about?
2 - In the second season of Blacktalan, I saw that Chaos Warriors can now also be reforged like Stormcasts. Is this canon or is it an invention of the series?

This guy's lore is that he was a champion of nurgle before being cleansed of corruption

Sorry, but I was wrong. I meant that the Chaos Warriors resurrect when they die, like the Stormcast, apparently by Belakor.

There’s only one person that belakor can bring back and he uses the souls of other trapped storm casts to bring him back.
The chaos gods can also bring back chaos pawns whenever they want, but that’s true in any of the warhammer settings.
