Well they don’t like to use flames so they can’t really eat meat. So fish, beans, maybe the occasional heart as a treat.

I think they're just not trying to be an updated version of chorfs, and instead trying to take the idea and do something a little different with it like the other monogod faction updates did. They're more brutalist and less flashy to better lean into their whole deal, where visions of their concept like TW:WH are a lot more cluttered with details, so in comparison they feel less fancy
Anonymous No.96401263 >>96401282 >>96401318
>>96401231
While I am generally a proponent of clean looks on chaos aligned models being incongruous with chaos' schtick, for the chorfs a simple, clean, and most importantly, efficent looking design is more in line with their lore. One of the key aspects of their lore is their brutal industry, and to be frank, making things look aesthetically pleasing or even interesting is kinda a nonconcern from that angle. While I will concede that they have to make the models look interesting SOMEHOW for them to sell, a simple, Brutalist design where things have minimal decoration and look solely designed to inflict the maximum amount of suffering possible is what Chorfs SHOULD have. Fancy detailing wastes material and man hours that could be better put to use making something actually useful. Though of course the people at the top of the totem pole are an exception.
Anonymous No.96401282 >>96401417
>>96401263
If I had to say the main reason for them looking how they do, I imagine a lot of the design language for chorfs from the old designs kinda clashes with a lot of the general chaos or Khorne look. I reckon they probably wanted them to be more their own thing, so more Hexagons and dwarfy bits as opposed to the usual plating and typical style they would share in fantasy.

On top of that I'm gonna guess they probably have the goofy looking giant guns (first the pose sucks because they were probably designed for flamethrowers first, blunderbusses second) and all of the other bits because they didn't want to have the simpler old designs. It's meant to be like "fancy fantasy tech" which I think mostly just looks shit because the colors they chose suck. After having seen stuff in more traditional chorf colors of blacks, reds, and golds I feel like they look pretty good.

I would really like to see a book from the Bonereapers perspective. We've gotten a few short stories but a kind of Alexander the Great journey through the mortal realms with just these kinda odd bonemen and their interactions with different factions would be really cool.

Yeah, the magics of hysh and ulgu are so fundamentally opposed that entering the opposite realm starts to tear them apart. That’s why Teclis and Malerion are doing border skirmishes trying to find some other way to enter each other’s realms and actually invade it, like that giant pit of used up aetherquartz that seems to be sagging into ulgu.

We've been getting a lot of nature-y rumour engines lately, so I can see the new CoS wave being themed around ghyran in the same way wave 1 was themed around aqshy. The sickle + staff could be a jade wizard eque deal, similar to what the alchemite warforger is for chamon. It could also be sylvaneth/kurnothi stuff, or maybe a wood elf character for tow. I think they're the only faction in that system without any new miniatures so far.

>turn that one other gal as the ghyra character

>Iscilla Thorian was staggering through the back alleys of Verdigris when she remembered her name.

>Broken memories came back in flashes, each the thump of a spear against blood-sodden earth. She had collapsed. She had seen the Sylvaneth's hunt arrive... no, that had come first. She had awoken alone within the keep. Sheβ€”

>She could still hear the horns. They blasted beyond the toppled walls. They sent the trees shivering. It was relentless enough that Thorian barely remembered staggering from her chambers, or how her body had broken out in bark-flesh growths that creaked with each step. That Ghyran sought to claim her both body and soul did not penetrate the Marshal's fogged thoughts.

>Enough of Thorian remained to marvel that no one had found her. Something guided her away from Dawners knelt in prayer beneath statues being raised up by lashing vines, or labouring to repair domiciles overgrown with thick and edible-looking moss. The passage of Belthanos and his magic-charged hunt had accelerated Verdigris's rebirth; Thorian felt a stirring reverberation, as Ghyran itself sought to try and heal the city along with its defenders. Somewhere, a flag had been hoisted beneath skies turned black, and a trumpet blasted out, mournful but defiant. It was not the glorious victory anyone had hoped for – but it was victory of a sort.

>For a moment, Thorian felt she ought to aid her people in their labours with her magics. Then the horn blast echoed again. It baffled her that no other seemed able to hear it, nor appeared to see the world through the haze of verdant green that she did. Yet it did not matter. The lord of the hunt demanded her presence. She still had duty to do. And Iscilla Thorian was a woman of duty.

>As Iscilla staggered towards the shattered gates, the light of the moon Kurnalune shone down. They cast the antlers sprouting from her brow into shadowy relief, before she passed back into the gloom

TOW cannot possibly phase out all its resins, the business model is built on maintaining old resin/metal moulds and is little more than one year old, they're nowhere close to being in the position to plan phasing out resin, like they can do it with the horus heresy

I think they're instead planning on updating only some specific stuff that's both old and ugly, and tomb kings' liches fit into that category just as well as basic skeletons, but those are clearly for a more important release slot, not as random tie-ins for campaign books

I think aos overlooks how characters came back because it's quite a blatant asspull no matter how they put it

but nagash apparently could bring back a number of vampires and undead servants because their essences are kinda tied to him since they all used his elixir or are a result of it

and his essence is likewise tied to theirs, I think one early novel suggested that nagash couldn't quite resolidify a coherent identity of his own self without doing it with his "non-selves" in a way, so the mortarchs like neferata and manfred and even arkhan were rationalized as anchors and stepping stones in nagash recovering his memories and selfness after the messy affair of the end of the world and his ascension to godhood, which is always schizophrenic when done rapidly and aiming towards elemental godhood, the horned rat too became an even more schizophrenic entity with his rise to power and all the big 4 chaos powers are known to be contradictory in their identities

if nagash didn't take precautions he would end up being a chaotic mixture of all the underworld gods he consumed, instead of himself with all that accumulated power under him
the black pyramid seems to be another important step in separating the power he wields from himself, and the other order gods approach a similar problem differently, guys like sigmar and alarielle simply avoid embracing wholly the entirety of the realms they embody at any one time, lest they lose themselves in the process, instead they maintain themselves in coherent and relatively "lower power" forms that can almost be mistaken for mortals still

nagash's approach, of course, is way more ambitious and effective

They're not as castle bound but they do move slow, their battle trait wants them to control and mark terrain to generate tokens they hand out to their units to make them better, but once terrain is marked you can leave it.

Their artillery looks good enough would think most lists want to run it.

The shotgunners are pretty strong. Only one shot each but 2 damage and they get up to rend 3 with 3 tokens.

So combined arms looks like a decent option.

Here's an idea: they could try for a one-and-done approach for setting backdrops. So they put out one of those 1v1 boxes with a couple warbands and some terrain and playable scenarios in it, and let's say it's set in some corner of Ghur again, but then the next box shifts focus to some other corner of a different realm. So instead of spending a season digging into a single location (Bloodwind Spoil/Gnarlwood) it goes like a lightning round through a bunch of them.

>Kiretha's fingers found her bow even before her vision had cleared. Her digits closed around the wooden shaft β€” then recoiled as splinters sliced her skin. It shocked her to wakefulness; she jolted upwards, gasping. She knelt amongst a field of the dead, her face coated in blood. Her aelven kin lay in mangled heaps alongside the ghouls they had fought, smoking sunmetal arrows still sticking from the creatures' hides.

>β€˜Llota,’ Kiretha gasped. Panic, a kind she had not experienced since childhood, saw the archer glance around, eyes narrowing as she searched for her beloved scryhawk companion. No feathered body lay among the dead. β€˜Llota!’

>β€˜Ah, then that be thy name, my little friend?’

>The crooning voice sent a shiver rocking through the aelf. A figure squatted amid the carnage in the shadow of a twisted tree. It was clad in rags of flayed meat that it had hung across itself with a grotesque deliberateness. Upon an extended talon, Llota perched. Her wings twitched in erratic bursts of motion.

>β€˜Ay, sweetling, 'tis assuredly a strange and misshapen brute that doth think to address us,’ the vampire nodded, a filthy claw scratching beneath the scryhawk's beak. β€˜Forsooth, a thing possessed of no loveliness at all. Even Lord Ushoran would not wish to break bread with them, I should wager. not like thee, my dear, oh no no. Thou art a handsome thing, like dear Grype. Let us see what old Felgryn has for thee...’

>Nearby, an aelf groaned, trying to drag himself through the debris, one leg dangling from a half-severed tendon. Almost absent-mindedly, the vampire grasped his skull and slammed it against the earth until it cracked. Kiretha watched, transfixed by horror, as the creature peeled away a long strip of skin and held it out to the scryhawk. With a gurgling caw, Llota snapped out, swallowing it. Her eye twitched.

>β€˜Fiend...’ Blinding anger banished weakness from Kiretha's limbs. She staggered to her feet with teeth set, her hand straying to a belted blade. β€˜Fiend! Unhand her!’

>The vampire looked at her, head cocked. From the branches of the tree came a series of hisses. Mad-eyed birds and bats stared down at her, all glutted on fresh carrion.

>β€˜What dost thou think, sweetling?’ murmured the vampire, tongue lashing its fangs. β€˜Shall we hunt a live mouse this time?’

>The abhorrant hurled its arms forwards and Llota exploded into flight with a piercing shriek. Hesitation β€” the bond of familiarity β€” stayed Kiretha's hand for just a moment. It ensured that the last sight she ever witnessed was her companion's talons flashing towards her eyes.

okay but very boring matchup, slow armored melee guys vs slow armored melee guys, both sides have lots of red and gold. snooze fest, but launched the game 6/10. could have been better, could have been worse, the stormcast models from this era were very very boring

>Soul Wars
massive upgrade in aesthetic quality for both the stormcast and the enemy side and had a great story to go along with it, but plagued by weird illegal unit sizes that really poisoned the kits. 7/10, would have been like 8 or 9 if it werent for the unit size thing, but it was really bad

>Dominion
stormcast redesign looks great, yndrasta is a really cool model and character, kruleboyz have amazingly characterful and fun sculpts, both sides actually have full units. story was completely forgettable though, and both model sets were plagued by 3 straight years of unplayable dogshit rules 5/10

>Skaventide
great models on both sides, the skaven refresh looks as good as anyone could have asked for, and the slimcast redesign finally finds its footing with the newer units adding more grit and detail with chains, furs, and skull iconography. good selections of legal units, and a fairly impactful narrative to kick off the edition. somewhat soured by 4th editions awful battetomes coming out almost immediately afterwards and ruining everyones hopes for the edition though, and they also didnt end up doing anything with the skaven invasion after the initial shock and awe, and 4e's narrative ground to a halt. 8/10 as a launch box, but like a 4/10 with all the other considerations of the followup rules and lack of story.

Interesting. If we speculate a little, it is mentioned that the idoneth, living in the dark depths of the oceans and with turbo-ptsd from slaanesh, have dulled their senses over time. Since apparently the original cythai souls are brighter, we could assume that this lifestyle has dimmed the souls of the idoneth, which makes them less powerful.

Cythai are immortal and their souls shine with the light of hysh or something to that effect. Normal full souled Idoneth have a shorter lifespan than other aelves.

There’s a short story I really liked with a weirdo Teclis-worshipping idoneth who Volturnos sends around to get different enclaves to join up with his assembrals. Thag guy seemed to believe that the amount of generations removed from a Cythai you were could be sort of estimated by looking at you, those with a handful of generations removed being heartier and seeming like something shined behind their eyes compared to those with a dozen+ generations removed. That’s Idoneth phrenology from a guy with a weird and offputting religious beliefs for his culture, though, so it might not objectively be true

there's already a pure skeleton faction so that's very obviously never going to happen. Zombies are just brainless undead so they're not worth making an entire faction for. GW can't even come up with more than one design for the ghost centered faction and ghosts don't need to be shaped like any specific physical thing, but you want a faction of mindless green humans? Death is spread thin enough with every type of undead being pigeonholed into their own thing, we don't need to spread them even further by making zombies subfaction exclusive.

For zombies they could add something along the lines of flesh crafted zombies. Patchwork Men, basically Frankenstein. Smarter and stronger, sort of like Wight Kings for Zombies.
For skeletons I'd like to see a boney wizard. No reason why Arkhan gets to be the only lich besides Nagash. I like the Soulblight is the "generic" undead faction. They get all the classics, but I want to see it expanded a bit.

I like Cado's armor and general look, even if the newer Blades model set looks a bit weird with the posing and their faces. Hopefully we get more Dynasty-specific vampires. They made so many Vyrkos that the whole faction just feels like it's Slavic undead right now.

If they made a modern Vlad and Isabella model and brought them back into AOS I'd cum.

It wasn't even actually true, everyone knew the reforging process hadn't been perfected and they were forced to deploy before it was ironed out, noone at all knew what the effects of it would be on stormcast. In the trailer it's not even a claim that sigmar actually lied, it's a stormcast feeling lied to that she signed up for immortality and found out it came with strings later, but in the end saying she still gladly pays that price and would have even if she'd known what it was at the time because it lets her make a difference.

It's annoying they made multiple new generic vampire lord models, but included absolutely 0 options in the kits to make them resemble any of the bloodlines they've put so much effort into fleshing out.

I,m running it, now at the Horned Rat, 75% of the camapign I had to ignore, my PCs were not all lowly nobodies, and they're rubbing shoulders with the Graf and every other high and mighty.
First book I skipped almost compeltly, no one wanted to go buy tax-free livestock at some dumb festival in Bogenhafen.

Soulwars
Skaventide
Dominion.

Thunderstrike range is just lame compared to Fatcasts IMO, Skavens are cool, but Nighthaunt are some of the best AoS models.

Real slim? The only new additions since fantasy is the wight lord which is just an alternate build wight king. The only thing they can really add at this point is heroes, don't think they want to explore skeleton archers, heavy cav or siege weapons in soulblight.

Skeleton Archers would be neat for more troops, though really they’d need magic and more heroes to feel like an all Skeleton army is viable.

I mean, crimson court are all the same base size as vamp lord. You got a solid mix, even if I hate that the main guy lacks poofy sleeves and his cape is only on his lower torso. I mean it's an easy fix but still.
