Name: Crewwoman Annelid Veyra
Designation: Homo Sapiens Elongatus ("Longshanks")
Role: Voidship Deckhand / Auxiliary Gunner
Affiliation: Merchant Militant Frigate, Glory of Wrath
Appearance: Annelid Veyra stands nearly three meters tall, a stretched and gaunt silhouette that looks wrong even by abhuman standards. Her limbs are willowy, her fingers disproportionately long, twitching nervously when idle. Her face is pale and drawn, with hollow cheeks and deep-set eyes the color of wet slate. Her hair is limp, black, and usually tied back in a thin cord, though strands float loose in the ship’s dry air. She wears a patched voidsuit cut awkwardly to fit her frame, with sleeves and leggings sewn from multiple scraps to cover her elongated body. She has the weary expression of someone perpetually exhausted, and deep creases under her eyes give her a cadaverous look. In the mess, she hunches to fit the low ceilings, eating quietly, trying not to loom over her shorter shipmates.

>Backstory: Annelid was born in the press-gangs of Gathis IX, a low-gravity mining world where Longshanks mutations were common. Her family were indentured to the ore-fleets; her father broke his back under grav-stress, and her mother sold her children into off-world service to pay the guild’s debts. Annelid’s height and dexterity made her valuable to voidships that could afford abhuman crews. She was taken by the Glory of Wrath, a Rogue Trader’s frigate notorious for long warp-transits and brutal crew losses. In the ship’s pressurized decks, her Longshanks physiology suddenly became an asset. She could climb bulkhead gantries, pull long spanner-wrenches across inaccessible engines, and man gunnery stations designed for two ordinary crew alone.
But her fellow voidsmen never let her forget what she was. β€œSpider,” they call her. β€œStilt-bitch.” They draw the sign of the Aquila when she enters the mess, warding her away with muttered litanies. She laughs it off, but alone, she keeps tally-marks scratched on her bunk rail; each one a prayer that her death comes quietly, in fire or vacuum, and not at the hands of her shipmates.

Selindra Veyl, Merchant Princess and Warrant-Bearer of the Sable Peregrine, keeps Annelid Veyra close. Not because she trusts her, but because she likes the look of her. A Longshanks is a rare curiosity, a living oddity that adds flair to Selindra’s court. Where most captains would hide or exile their abhuman crew, Selindra insists on bringing Annelid into receptions and trade halls, presenting her as a β€œpersonal retainer” and β€œexotic bodyguard.” To Selindra, Annelid is equal parts asset and ornament: a piece of living theatre to unsettle planetary governors or rival merchants, a conversation piece she can take wherever she wants.

Nelios has been living in the Four Seasons Valley since he was born. His half elven heritage lead him to being far larger than the elven kin of the town as he grew, and lead to him being recruited into the local militia. It didn't take long for him to stand out as a problem, not because he was belligerent or rebellious, but because of his pure size. Every piece of armor had to be made special for his frame and as a "punishment" the guards forced him to help the armor smith. He took to it immediately, quickly becoming the fastest worksman even if his work was a bit shoddy. This worked out well for the smith though as he could have the young lad bang out rough works very quickly and the master could refine it. Over a few years, he grew in skill and eventually started his own forge in town - Dayforge. Not the best repair smith, but he can create any piece of decent effective armor you want in a very short period of time.

Tewae Silenthope is as obvious as you can imagine. Big assets, big personality, big tips. But she also has an extremely useful skill: big ears. She's really adept at listening to conversations even during very busy nights. She's not listening to random gossip, well, she is, but that's not the point. She knows market values of goods in far off cities, who's currently winning in the bid for the crown in the kingdom nearby, why the refugees have been driving so hard to get here, and even the whispers between the academy magistrates and local lords. And everything is for sale if you have the right price. Everything.

Argentum Aurum has been living in the Four Seasons Valley for only a few years. Originally from the capital city he arrived in a ramshackle cart with an ancient mule (who died shortly after arriving), and around 30 large sacks of gemstones, rings, and other jewelry. He is cruel, shrewd, and dismissive of others, but he is also very good at financial matters and jewelcrafting. The last person who failed to repay a loan from him "decided to leave town." He never loses money on a deal.
Why is he here in town? No one really knows, except that's definitely not his real name.

It's probably not what you think. The gist is:
>each of my six players makes an orphan character living in an orphanage
>"session 0" is a mini-adventure where the orphans progress through several years (ages 10-18), in which they do things like go camping, go to school, do chores, apprentice under tradesmen, etc, building their character organically
>something happens in the final year that scatters them all over the world
>each orphan ends up in a new land, and the other five players will have regionally-appropriate characters, working towards that region's particular story
>each of the six campaigns is different, although there is a unifying anchor to all of them (the reason they were scattered)
>they've all bought in to the concept
>all non-orphan characters can be whatever the player wants; I just slot them in to whichever region works with their concept and backstory (making modifications and concessions to the region when needed)

It's an endeavor, but we're all looking forward to it.
