The first trials are usually not that extreme. For the mundane side, I feel like Rioting offers a chance for some minor division between characters which I thin is more interesting than the alternatives. They'll be more or less working together in both reality and the idea world outside of anyone who wants to go Human Outside, but is less black and white for characters than I imagine that is.

I can appreciate what you want to get out of it, with wanting builds to have some drama and personal differences, but the exact subject matter doesn't strike me as something fun to read or write about.. I just know I'd end up ignoring it to the best of my ability even if we pick it, and I figure I'll be open about that in case that's not just me.

Digging deeper, I'm not sure I have any better suggestions however. Serial killer feels like a good story, but with a smaller niche for more investigative builds. Something that doesn't benefit from being an mp wide mission. Beat 'em up is a bit more suited to be wide spread, but I'm not sure where it'd really go as a story beyond us just beating up the bad guys and moving on. I don't think anyone's SS tbdesu. The tankiest builds are probably tied between Liú and Tetsuya. Liú has Phoenix Down for an extra burst of healing and Freakish III for better raw stats while Tetsuya has Bloodsoaked and Lusus Naturae (and maybe Machinery helps) for better defenses over time. I'd say they're both S and not SS; SS would be a prime overspecialization like only defensive abilities, such as the ones they have but then instead of Idea Killer or Deathself they took even more defensive abilities from Support like Aegis. Honorable mention is Ranken who I think took the option that made her completely invulnerable unless she loses a battle of wills, AKA prime worf material for bad guys to show how willy they are.

I think they're just different kinds of danger, and thus both are real options. No clue what they're like. You can probably just make whatever up.

I don't think you teleport there personally. It's more like an out of body experience. So your mind teleports and your body stays behind.

Seems like they just form. Also I'm not entirely sure, but I feel like the door goes somewhere slightly different. Like the bleeding and flooding zones are where the two worlds are overlapping, but the door leads to the other world itself. The former is how you fight off foreign invasions, and the latter is how you take the fight to the enemy. As for what it looks like, again no clue. The CYOA doesn't tell us so there isn't a correct answer.

If the bleeding thing is literal, then it could mean that the real world still exists while you fight and would be impacted by your actions, and if so that'd suggest a lower power level so we don't lay waste to large parts of the city constantly. Bleeding Zones look kind of like it, they are areas where the Idea World starts to "bleed in" the real world, and start messing things up.
Flooding Zones are like Bleeding Zones, but more violent. Think of those areas where the world starts going full Madoka Magika, full of aggressive whimsy and insanity.
Flooding zones are this way because the Idea World is forcefully pulling whole sections of the real world to its depths. Think of it as a very, very violent reentry of an object into the atmosphere, and it is why things are so crazy there.

The Student Council door leads to the Idea World proper, which is far more stable and "sane" than Flooding Zones, since it is not pulling reality apart with violence.

Possessions just swap bodies. They cannot go to Bleeding Zones with their Possessed body (Since it is still too "here" in the real world), but they can enter it freely if it transforms into a Flooding Zone or is stabilized with a Zona Oscura.

Both Flooding Zones and Bleeding Zones can just appear. A Bleeding Zone can be stabilized and ended, or become worse, turning into a Flooding Zone, just as a Flooding Zone can be stabilized into a Bleeding Zone.

As a rule of thumb, Flooding Zones are BAD.

The Idea World is far more serene, cyberpunkish, or whatever, depending on the time of the day you enter it, or where you go in it, rather than something going crazy and out of control.

Think of it as a layer mask; you can go crazy in the layer mask, but once it disappears, the layer underneath it is just as safe/untouched as it was before.

Since things are far more whimsical and artistic in the idea world, you can release giant laser beams, but they have no damage or aren't that powerful, since the entire world is running on artistic license in it. So you can have grand effects and attacks, but they may not be that powerful, since what matters is the execution and presentation, rather than the power behind it.

Like, you can have an Elemental Attack that acts like a sea of fire, but some Assaultchud with Wuxing III just releases a Reigan and blasts away your sea of fire with a simplistic attack.

Cool build. Not sure about blood type, but the inclusion of VA and theme have me wondering what Reiji's should be. I'd probably go for someone like Yuuichi Nakamura for the voice, and I'll have to think more on the theme.

Reiji's inherent distrust for pretty rich girls and anyone who seems too perfect creates a sizable barrier for them becoming friends. Though, unless Sumi gets offended by his reaction to her or something, they have no real reason to be at odds. I doubt she'd find successful margin trading interesting enough for him to be a Bohemian Club candidate, but he can carry a conversation about art and music well enough. And he'd probably respect her just ignoring the Census Club. Maybe he'd hire her as an idol for some big event, idk. Let me know if you think of a more compelling way for them to interact.

As for interactions, I don't think stealing a watch that obviously would fit her style. She pushes that sort of thinking into the idea world, but in her idolon form she'd be aiming way higher.

That was basically the idea. Not sure if you saw my pre-build post a while back about Reiji asking Madoka for martial arts lessons in order to get closer to a student council member, but it made me wonder if there was a part of her that still craves swordsmanship. Was there a passion there that was ironically snuffed out by the pressures of being a dojo heiress? Could that fire be lit again? Seems like it could be a fun thing to explore depending on what you want to do with the character.

Hadn't thought that far ahead, but that's an interesting idea. It could also be a plan of Reiji's to earn goodwill that ends up backfiring, and Madoka enters because she and/or her family think it's due to your explaination. Or maybe it's just Reiji's family causing problems for him once again. Could take it several different directions.

Reiji's mother is actually from old money as well, though I haven't decided on the exact details of that. Maybe the other old money families view her as a traitor by marrying the man who's largely responsible for the city's departure from tradition. I thought his mother might place a lot of emphasis on bloodlines and tradition, at least whenever it suits her and despite Reiji's father originally coming from the city's underclass. Still need to iron some of that out.

Yeah, ngl, the topic of 'person who got denied the chance to do their own thing because they were talented in something else' ranks highly on things Madoka would want to interfere with since it hits close to home. So she might seem extra nosy to him. Also can't deny the other parts. She loves making friends, she does a good job of it... She loves standing out too. I suppose I mostly thought he'd feel lukewarm about the implications of her being a free spirit rather than not liking her the fact itself, since it means there's no one else to inherit her family and all that they do. It could lead to one less faction in city hall fighting for peace and quiet. It could lead to a further departure from the town's old vibes as the old rich family deteriorates and the it leads to losses of related jobs and other chain reactions. Stuff like that. Like in a weird way her choice to be her own person is a heavy blow against the thing he wants with the old vibes of the town in the long term.

And not yet. Off the top of my head I don't remember setting up any other life events. I partly considered reaching out to Reiji's anon since it checks out that local rich kids probably knew each other, but couldn't quite settle on an interesting way to approach that idea.

The SC members so far are exceedingly cheesy, so they'll probably do their damnedest to turn that 1% chance into reality. I don't think I did. Could go either way. She herself tries to avoid swordsmanship in whatever ways she can, but that doesn't mean she's successful. And yeah, she likes swordsmanship more than she'd like to admit to herself, she just sorta psyched herself out. Got it in her head that she can do more good elsewhere and prioritized doing good over herself... Kind of. It's messy and I'm still ironing out the details there myself. It's also one of the main plotbeats for her as a character. So good eye- you caught me red handed, kek.

Tournament could go either way, yeah. Reiji's plan backfiring, or an just a big company vying for power, with Reiji trying to mitigate damages in his own way. My kneejerk reaction was to suggest that maybe it was originally an Onguuchi family event and the Kurobane group simply wormed their way in, but it feels more dramatic leaving it as their own, brand new event. More potential for political kino, you know?

Lots of directions to go with Reiji's mother. Depending on the story there it could also shape his and Madoka's initial relationship. It could have been a bitter old rival, a straggler who never fully cemented their influence (and thus was easiest to take over), or a familiar ally who the Onguuchi's frequently had ties with. Could even turn out that the two have some minor blood relation if the last one's the case- like maybe one of his grandparents on his mother's side was an Onguuchi... Either way, the other old money families not being fond of his mother does seem reasonable, so whatever the fine details the relationship is likely strained.

Lots of ideas to play with, really... Though on that note, I'm off to bed so I'll be catching you and Kazu's anon next time. Probably.

He stands there with Aegis III taunting and force pushing enemies away as they get weaker and weaker under his Crushing Will. Reiji is extremely guarded with girls because he assumes anyone interested in him is either after his money, was sent by his family to spy on/manipulate him, or would be a vulnerability someone could exploit if he got too attached. Definitely no harems in his future. Though he does see things very clearly when it comes to matters that don't involve himself, so he actually gives quite good relationship advice. He just might encourage you to ruthlessly destroy any romantic rivals in your path if your feelings for someone mean anything.

Yeah, I'm not yet familiar enough with her as a character to have thought of the catalyst for that sort of interaction; the end of the scenario is just what popped into my head. Reiji is good at quickly identifying people's utility and finding opportunities that others overlook. So even in a negative interaction, she wouldn't be a "nobody" to him, if that makes sense. Which might be enough to make the day of someone in Rin's headspace.

I think either would fit just as well on my end. Kurobane Group is a holding company that's been slowly buying up everything over the years, and the average worker is an overworked wagey. Her family losing their business might be the more compelling of the two options for Rin though. I guess it depends on what you'd rather write for her family struggles. Not sure if that's very helpful.

It's kinda funny to me that an integral function of the setting and something the builds will most certainly interact with is mentioned exactly once under one option in JITE with basically zero elaboration, namely the fact that you boost your Idolon with materials you ger. I guess it's self-explanatory enough...?

For how they might interact, they're in similar positions and I imagine their parents move around some the same circles, dragging them along for the ride. There's a good chance their of their families being close in a business sense since her father's firm could have hands in construction pushed by Kurobane, which could make him even more wary of her than he'd already be. Could create a situation where they're pushed to get along for the mutual benefit of their family's, and possibly even because they see it benefiting Sumi since Kurobane group could probably pull some strings to help with her career. On a more personal level, they could end interacting through a mutual dislike of the Census Club. It's not something she's too concerned about, but if/when she's harassed in a way she actually cares about, her anger make her eager to het back.

Her Idolon has built in claws and swords inside her body from which she uses to fight enemies. She has built in guns inside her body and can unleash beams of hot plasma with her plasma gun that can melt any enemy. Meliaya’s idolon has the strength to carry all my weapons inside her without getting hindered. That being said, Meliaya and her idolon are still pretty young and quite inexperienced in battle. Her idolon has a great sensor that can detect any enemies and even identify what they are.

This is quite good actually. Itsuki's main problem (as I will explore in his third intro) is that he is too lodt in the flow already.
Even his rage and darkness doesn't feel like his own, it repeated so much he feels stuck in a timeloop, emotions are graying, highs are fading, and just crushing numbness and hurt, guilt and sorry, are there to make him hang his head in shame.
Having some actual light in his life, a small thing to look up for when the is feeling he will go disassociative again, will do him wonders.
Tl;dr: he is not lost in darkness and rage, but lost to the echo of his actions and the numbness that overtook him.

Also, I don't think he would balk at her advices. He is more or less self aware of what he has become, and his actions. He just is so done with everything that he will gladly listening to advices as long as they sound good and trusting, even if it is coming from a child.

You could still have Momofuku and her gang rise up to maintain order, which is, frankly, a bigger and stronger faction than the student council at present. (Hell 2/3 of the SC are also in said gang it seems.) I've got the image for the character, but the idolon stumps me, especially with the backstory idea I have. For the SC tank, the Idolon is that of his twin brother who's in a coma (the Other Person origin). The tank was a hardcore delinquent, while the brother was more proper and tried to get him to mend their ways, but while doing that, got dragged into the tank's fight with some other delinquents/gangsters. Things went badly, the brother ended up in a coma, but thanks to the intervention by the SC President, they both survived.

So what I've got out of it is that it should still be human looking, but other than that it has some conflicting features. Destruction category makes me think of rather evil looking idolons, but on the other hand, Cogito, Ergo Sum gives it some protective vibes (the way his brother tried to protect him). The marking ability makes me think of something more esoteric, like maybe some oozing mist, but other than that it's a very physical idolon with the Freakish and Bulletproof.
Thinking about it, maybe some asymmetric design would look good? Like where the left and right side are a bit differently shaped and coloured. But I'd also prefer it rather heavy/tank looking. I'll try to look for something like that.

SHSL Athlete nullifies the Freakish III self harm. Absolute Resonance presumably applies here as well. Cogito, Ergo Sum I helps against mental attacks. Bulletproof III keeps her in the fight until death. Adaptational means each attack received does less damage. Lifesteal means she heals as she fights. Phoenix Down as a second life bar.

Monster II keeps her aware of enemies that try to flee. Magician may allow magic that could be useful.

Another Student Council member is nice to see. I'm not sure about potential connections between her and Reiji though. She'd be a decent student council member to manipulate due to her naivete, but she'd just as quickly share their talks with the others as she shares info about the student council with him, which would only serve to make the Student Council trust him less. Cool build; I've been hoping for a solid investigator. I'm not sure what she'd think of Reiji, since he's someone who wears a lot of masks, but he is someone who's very interested in uncovering secrets about the city. He'd definitely be interested in making use of someone with genuine detective skills. He probably has less to offer her than some other builds, since she seems morally upright and doesn't really need the money. But he does have the connections to give her leads on strange happenings around the city, so maybe she'd investigate them just for the love of the game.

Thinking about it more, having Takaishi as one of it's starting members could complete the group. Takaishi using his plant knowledge and gardening club resources to cultivate tea plants and pick out the perfect leaves, Kazu could then process the leaves and use his chemistry knowledge to refine the brewing process, and Yae can use her enhanced senses and detective skills to give feedback on its taste and identity possible sources of error.

Offense is piss poor with only having skill to use, and it's a general skill rather than a focused one that needs healing to be more reliable as his only offense tool.
Defense is alright due Cogito II and Bloodsoaked plus self sustain.
Very minor crowd control with poison cloud blocking areas, but it's not nothing. It could be D+ if I couldn't pair the clouds with definement to AoE debuffs.
I'd be surprised if support could be considered lower since most of his skills and abilities are related to healing and buffing.
And above average sabotage by stacking debuffs and ailments.
All in all, a slightly bulky support who could be built into being an off-tank when needed. The student council should probably start team building optimized raid groups for the bleeding zones.

For Ran, when I think about those categories they seem to overlap a fair bit and I'm not sure about the scale in general, so I'd welcome corrections.

Freakish 3, which with SHSL Catharsia shouldn't be hard to use, Life Expenditure 2, Monster might create some openings, and maybe some skills from mundane might overlap a bit like Bancho and Rioter. Retaliation and Linked Vengeance are situational but also helpful.

Physical buffs as above, Cogito 3, Bulletproof 3 + Phoenix Down (which can be a massive combo depending how you read it, bulletproof keeps you going until the fight ends if you dont get a decisive hit, and when normally you'd drop dead after the fight, phoenix brings you bacm up), Monster 3 (with Linked Vengeance it sounds like placing a mark is also much easier and you can have multiple, but it could also be 2 different types of marks) + Parry

Cato is a bit of a legend among the local population of middle school and younger children. The kid that stood up to adults, stuck it to the man, and got the legendary "1 Thousand Days of Detention". He became a symbol of rebellion, of advocacy for the (literally) little guy, and of the strength of children. Parents, wise to his antics on school grounds, called him a devil-child. Some claimed he was possessed by an evil spirit. How else could he be acting this way? They don't know how close to the truth they are.

Outside of school, Cato has set up a network. He's gained the loyalty of all the children; they ride and die for him. Well, not die, that's scary. But they hold him in the highest regard. If Cato says to disobey your parents, you say "for how long, cause I don't wanna be grounded before my baseball game next week". If Cato says to throw bricks at those weird adults that pass through this alley every day, or slash some tires or write some bad words in permanent marker on someone's door, you do it. So long as you're a kid, of course. That isn't to say he thinks himself above alliances of convenience. He's even worked with some (eugh) high-schoolers to get stuff done before. Just don't expect any mercy if you're an adult.

Space Alien finds itself in a bit of a pickle. It claims that that isn't its actual name, but Cato can't pronounce its real name, so he just calls it Space Alien. Apparently, it formed from the latent fear of abductions and UFO sightings and invaders from beyond the stars years and years ago, and wandered without purpose for a time, leading its "people", smaller versions of itself, through a foreign land, before Cato found a lost minion of its and showed it some kindness. Their bond started forming then, Cato teaching it about humanity and, for lack of a better word, indoctrinating it . Now, Space Alien sees Cato as a mix of a messiah-figure and a big brother.

Cato sees Space Alien as a partner-in-crime, to help expand his "empire" into the Idea World, and fight back against the Nightmares and other creatures. He also sees it and its minions as his property, like a child with a favorite toy. A healthy dynamic, surely.

Space Alien uses "space energy" (neither of them know what it is, but it's glowy and warbly and disintegrates stuff) to attack, as well as odd sci-fi gadgets that produce unexplainable effects (an expression of Machinery + Magician). Most of it's abilities can be envisioned through the lens of "alien tech" or "space energy".

The chain around its neck stretches a few feet in the direction of Cato, before becoming ethereal and transparent.
