You can. On the other hand you side torsos are easier to be concentrated on since damage won't get spread to the opposing side. That can be particularly bad against a more mobile opponent. Terrain not being taken into account.

Me too, i like that this balances out ammo allot and if I want to run MGs for crit seeking I'm not gonna be penalized for doing so.

The only thing I need clearing up on is that if I have case II installed on one of the side torsos that cook an ammo explosion do I only apply the 1 damage to the rear armor?

For the side rules this honestly just makes sense in an actually combat scenario and brings up new tactics. Plus mechs with shield arms will see more tactical use.

I took the "remaining damage" in the bottom bullet to refer to the damage remaining after you apply the minimum as determined by your level of case.
Deal 1 to structure, remaining damage is dealt to rear armor. For normal case, you deal 10 to structure, then blow back armor, and no case deals 20 to structure then blows back armor.
Unless the bullets are only germane to CASE II, the formatting is a little ambiguous IMO.

These rules propose that hits to the opposite side torsos now will circle back around and hit the torso you are facing instead. This increases the amount of hits on that side torso IMMENSELY. This means that side torso hits rack up WAY faster So any jumper can strip out your side torsos and ruining the XL engines within causing at BARE MINIMUM +10 for nothing AND even potentially wreck your engine WAY WAY faster than you are expecting. Something like 80% of all non IIC mechs for the Clans use XL engines. This chance KILLs THE CLAN TECH.

It is, though mixed tech designs have closed the gap a bit. The problem is Clantech at base deals more damage, has more range, weighs less, and takes up less space. Since every mech has the same amount of crit slots and free space (based on tonnage), that means Clan tech is nearly always more efficient. There are some exceptions like the Plasma Rifle, but the Clans in 3150 have Streak LRMs, clan-spec Rotary ACs' HAGs, FerroLam Armor, and a whole host of other new tricks while the Inner Sphere is still trying to figure out the Clans' old stuff.

It's odd how it wasn't built into every house by this point. There is no downside to having it. Think about this analogy for a minute.

>>96512240
Tabletop or lore wise? It doesn't matter, the answer is still the same: No. Lorewise, it varies by clan and era but generally it's easy enough to ignore zell if you want to ignore zell. Tabletop thirty something years ago pre-BV, for every Clan player that would try to use zell to balance the imbalance, there would be two or three other people that would demand to balance scenarios by equal tonnage and would throw zell out the window, at least in central Jersey. The intent of FASA was that players would balance scenarios, but that was naive of them. BV, like the legal system, was introduced to correct for dysfunctional people and psychopaths.

It sometimes seems like the imbalance is not as bad as it is because of just how many of the Clan mechs in the 3050 book are complete garbage, but there are a few good ones in there. Artillery kind of makes up for it, but not really when the Clan player knows what they're doing. That also opens up the zell restrictions which creates another set of problems.

Clan pulse lasers break the game a bit in the Invasion Era. I'm not aware of a good way to fix them, other than removing them, which then breaks other things. The easiest way to deal with it is to just accept that IS lights (and some mediums) don't exist for a few years.

A full lance of c3 under current rules is 20% more BV.
the new modifier is 30%. so at this point everyone is paying for c3 as if it's a full 6 unit c3i network. That is painful. Clan-grade XLFE is explicitly only capable of being produced by Defiance Industries in their Hesperus megaplex. It's specifically brought up in the description of the Rec Guide Gunslinger variant, which started development before the Blackout as a joint DI/LAW project. After the Successor States went back to fighting each other the relations between the two corporations deteriorated and the Dracs now have to buy the engines for the Gunslingers they're building from the Sea Foxes.
Clantech heat sinks, internal structure, armor, and many weapons are commonly produced by IS factions, though. They're just expensive enough that it's economically unviable to make every mech full Clantech. Using an IS chassis with Clan-grade weapons or heat sinks is cheaper and does more or less the same job.

Not him, but: The important part here is that firing arcs in Levs apply to both incoming and outgoing shots. You can see the firing arcs on a battleship, visualized here as it aims at a destroyer with some templates I printed and painted. The destroyer's fore half is in the battleship's fore-starboard arc, so attacks from the destroyer's side guns will hit the battleship's fore-starboard section. But the destroyer's stern is in the battleship's bow arc, so if it has a stern turret, those shots will hit the bow.

Obviously Battletech's rules changes are nowhere near this radical, but Levs is a different game.

The Star League had genetic alteration, the tame end was engineering colonists for specific planets such as to live on higher gravity worlds or with mildly contaminated air. Those people may look a little strange, but they mostly appear normal outside of medical examination. The high end extreme top secret stuff includes worlds like Frobisher where they engineered fish (actually probably more like seals) people with gills and flippers and stuff. But Frobisher was never truly completed and the altered colonists needed regular gene therapy to keep their bodies stable. After the Star League fell, most of the scientists took the last jumpship out of there to Canopus and then the remainder fell prey to highly motivated pirates of mysterious origin who laser targeted all the high tech facilities, leaving the fish people to develop severe genetic defects. I ain't saying it was Canopians, but they sure did know it was there and have a vested interest in high tech medical technology.

On that note, given how Morgan's daughter Megan married Daniel Allard, who would be the uncle to Kai Allard-Liao (the son of Daniel's half-brother Justin and Candace Liao), would that make Kai a distant cousin-in-law to Melissa's eldest son Victor?

Question for you guys about the proposed rules. Normally if a location is completely destroyed you don't check for crits unless the location has explosive components, right? So now say you have a left torso with 3 tons of ammo and an XL engine (IS) with CASE. So you take a TAC to the LT and it goes to the ammo bin. Boom, that does 10 damage to the IS because of CASE, do you then check for a crit from that 10 damage and potentially set off another ammo explosions? And if that location had less than 20 structure, would you check for a 3rd ammo explosion even though there's nothing left to explode and the CASE should stop the damage from transferring to the CT, right?

My actual guess is that whoever made up that graphic didn't know how clanners work and thought Laborer was the overarching category for all civilians and Technician was a sub-caste or something.

A mech built when clan stuff was still on par with Star League tech with very few exceptions, before omnitech became a thing.

A mech that, not having any record means the Wolverines would've had to create it after fleeing their annihilation for it to make any sense in universe. With catastrophically depleted manpower, resources and no mech production facilities, very likely built on board a ship. So the odds of it existing, in a quantity greater than one, let alone variants is about as likely as the Holdo manoeuvre in Star Wars.

Resolve one crit at a time. First deals 10, roll for crit. If you score a crit, then yeah, you can set off another bin. If the location is destroyed, there's still the normal check to see if you blow up ammo in a just-destroyed location, which doesn't matter for damage because you have CASE, but still applies pilot hits.

The only part that's iffy is "former Widowmaker elements within the Wolf scientist caste", but it was 20 years after the Widowmakers were destroyed, so if there were some old scientists, they'd have been vetted and considered trustworthy by that point, since the alternative would have been to kill them years ago.

With the way it's written, if you have more than 4 or 5 shots left in the bin you're hitting the damage cap anyway, so there isn't much to calculate. 1 AC/20 shot, 2 AC/10 shots, 1 volley of LRM/20, 3 volleys of SRM/6. You can just stop counting once you hit 20 damage (or 10 with CASE, or 1 with CASE II).

Nigga how, it’s one basic multiplication problem, this is a skill everybody should’ve mastered in elementary school. Not to mention the old way you STILL had to calculate the total damage done based on your shots left, so this doesn’t even change the number of steps at all unless you were treating any ammo explosion as instant death.

If you can’t just glance at the ammo left and say β€œyeah that’s gonna be over 20 damage” in about 2 seconds what business do you have playing this game? (Not you specifically, β€˜you’ as in β€˜whoever would bother complaining about this taking longer’)

On the other hand I love ammo-dependent weapons and was bored of the constant laser boat domination (I love my Black Knight tho), so I like the ammo explosion cap and if it doesn't become an official thing I'll ask my club to keep it as an optional rule.

Yes, if you look at mech animations from 2 last DLC there is inconsistent animation between new and old mechs, especially falling animation. Tyler Carpenter was gone from the team before launch but was still credited.
A lot of things cannot be sourced anymore, for whatever reason HBS and other parties removed many things related to the game; youtube kickstarter dev blogs, weekly dev updates from twitch, whole VOD archive of hyperRPG HBS collabs, the entire forum used before HBS moved to paradox as well as many social media posts and even whole accounts can no longer be found.
