Recommend me some second founding chapters to paint a retro marines army circa 2008, I'm thinking Crimson Fists but I feel their scheme is too plain unless I go insane on the highlights. There's still some great art being put out, I was honestly surprised by how much I like a lot of the 9th ed codex covers, but there was just something nice about the grittier artwork between 3rd to about 6th, we won't talk about the digital artwork between 7th and 8th.

The only other purple I have is a much brighter Vallejo Alien Purple for the skin of my GSC and that shit covers anything brilliantly though the paint is a bit weird in itself to work with. I painted their arms in grey alongside the armor so Naggaroth Night would go over it nicely but it's still too dark.
I grabbed the Dawn of War board game for dirt-cheap so looking for color schemes to paint. Black and Purple looks great though I don't know anything about Dark Krakens aside from them being Salamander successors.

Because they weren't meant to be a stop gap, volkite was useful but not the most reliable and resuppling and repairs were always a struggle due to their ancient designs. This is why bolters were adopted by many of the imperial forces because supplies because they were much cheap and easier to supply and repair, while also having greater effective range at the sacrifice of a bit of raygun power.
Also lasguns are used because they are crazy cheap to make, and power packs are incredibly easy to recharge, while also not having recoil that breaks most humans arms.

Melee weapons work well against chaos because they harken back to the first violence each species engaged in. the meme mantra is two thin coats for your basecoats, some paint lines have decent enough coverage and thinness that you can get away with one coat to get a solid layer, some paint lines and especially trouble paints like whites/oranges/yellows will need 3+ thin coats to get solid coverage

Generally it's good to do your base paints in 2-3 thinned coats, then hit everything with your shade, then do 1-2 thin coats of your layers on all the parts that the wash didn't darken, then hit your highlights. If you're using a contrast paint it will depend on what you're using it for. If you're using it as the main colour for a piece like for the armour of a space marine then you use that first instead of your basecoat and wash step. If you're using it as a shade/wash over a basecoat of a solid colour then you would do your basecoat first, then shade with your contrast, then layer and highlight from there. To condense it a bit

Rogal Dorn tanks are your damage dealers in the guard, if you don't like those consider the Malcador with some bits to convert them to have Dorn weapons.
Scions and Kasrkin are also great so consider getting some recasts or Tiny Legend models for Krieg Grenadiers.

Update on my first venture into admech, this is definitely my learning model. Spent way too long on those robe lines because I painted on the red first. Still a really fun color scheme and beats the hell out of my deldar and their "oops all edge highlights" armor.
