I never followed CR before this campaign, but I figured I'd give this a try. I felt this ep was a bit of a mess, but I think that's expected having to introduce so many characters.

I'm hoping future eps are more like "These characters are in this ep" instead of people swapping in and out.

It was also a weird deep end we were being thrown into.

It feels weird to me that most of the characters seem to already know each other and have a deep history, I think it works much better for introductions of a new world and new lore if you've got people meeting for the first time to learn about each other along with the viewers.
But I think they split into 3 separate groups post episode 4 so the swapping issue should cease come that point.

They've just completely abandoned any idea of it being a west marches GAME. It's just one big radio theater show. And still making it nearly five hours long for the first episode is absolutely crazy.

I mean, it's impressive that Laura can cry on command, but also wildly over the top for a character (the dead guy) we have no emotional connection to up till now. It's just an artsy showoff.

I'll want to see one episode of when they do smaller groups, but so far it feels like it's the worst of both brennan and critical role, rather than the best.
However, this might be exactly what critical roles main audience wants, but I'm not sure. The Calamity minicampaign this is not.

As someone who plays DH, no. The system is fine for a single table campaign, but WM? Not sure how well this will play out, as fear can be spent on things that could influence a larger narrative, instead of players going into the playground and doing it entirely on their own. The DM would be stifled, and the world would have to be insanely complex to accommodate the different kind of storytelling.
I am the DM, so I had the high IQ idea of actually homebrewing an entire kingdom instead of for example plopping them into the Forgotten Realms with another system, so right now I am stuck designing a story for four players, let alone for several tables, and then connecting them in a meaningful way.
The system flows better than D&D mechanically. Of course, contrarians hate it without ever having tried it, all because of "no initiative", which is one thing my table loves, as we are close-knit and not some randoms barging in as newfags and trying to steal the spotlight. The players for example came up with a specific military, where one was a part of as a minor noble, etc. so I weaved it into one of the baronies, which was not originally planned to be there. Any number randomly generated with some number of dice and manipulated in some uniform way should have an approximately equal number of odds and evens, they have a ratio of 25 odds to 53 evens, which has an about 1/1000 chance of occuring naturally (I will note that evens are better then odds here and as of such I am counting evens alone)

Because they decided to give healing magic near-exclusively to the divine casters because of niche protection or some shit, D&D mechanically relies on the presence of Clerics, and thus works to decouple them from any particular setting's worldbuilding.

I really wanted to see more of Wic and the daemon together. I was hoping we'd see the daemon being a bit confused on what a funeral even is, and have Wic teach her as a priest of the life what death is in his faith.

We could have seen a bit more in their dynamic as light priest and daemon of hells. The fact that Sam when out of his way to actually create that faith, to write down a whole bible of scriptures and verses to really get deep into his character's way of life as a priest, and to better immerse himself in this new world is something I was so looking forward to watching it all unfold.

But that was all stripped because that fucking orc bitch gave him shit before he even set foot in the door. They were on rails for the entire thing. Which is usually the case, but it was incredibly blatant this time. It revolved around freeing a god eater to eat gods. That's what the BBEG wanted to do. The party was undecided on how to respond to this. There was some halfhearted desire to stop it, but most of them didn't actually give a shit one way or the other. This indecision literally lasted until the final climactic moment where they were forced into making a decision. The had killed the BBEG-junior who was the mastermind behind the plot and then they went ahead and FINISHED WHAT THE BBEG WANTED THEM TO DO. It was fucking retarded

and then yeah they had an Avengers Endgame moment by bringing back the PCs of both C1 and 2 for fanservice and it was largely pointless

It was just a shit idea from the jump. This is a fantasy setting where gods provably exist and are a fact of life. But they couldn't help injecting their Californian sensibilities into it and had this attitude of "the gods suck, what have they ever done for ME"
