If you split between archetypes, you should be able to get a third tier or two second tier skills in both since you were drawback farming. Or simply go all in on one type with the bare minimum investment in the other.
Personally I'd focus on fluff or coolness. Pick options that you think suit the character instead of ones that seem strong. As long as you do that, I imagine it'll go well.

Well, in Kaoru's case, she's smart, but not Smartass or Quirky level smart. She's just extremely distrustful and inquisitive. So like, she's not a master detective, but she's more like Doakes from Dexter, who just "had a feeling" and followed it while obsessively keeping tabs on the guy. Combine that with acting as inconspicuous as possible to avoid suspicion. I'm sure she'll grow to trust the Student Council eventually, but she's slow to let others come close due to trauma

Okay, I've been reading some of the writefags. God, Ai is SPOOKY. Like, the details about her gooner cave... scarily good writing. I was wondering if maybe I could write a thing where Kaoru suspects her of something mysterious, because Ai keeps skipping gym class and things like that, only to find that she's not really doing something evil, but rather she finds one of Ai's goon trinkets or something. I think they might actually get along, since they would both have secrets to hide from others, and Kaoru would learn that some people aren't really evil, just weird.

I've also had a concept relating to Kaoru writing journal entries about how her work with the student council goes, how she gets along with them, what she's trying to figure out from each one, and things like that, although I'd also like to write something in a Bleeding Zone too. I'm starting to notice that there's a LOT of slice of life here, funnily enough.

About them getting along, it can go either way. Ai of course hates males, but also females, seeing as how they betrayed and bullied her. So Kaoru's secretism could be misinterpreted by Ai's sick mind as her planning something in secret against her. On the other hand, if Kaoru really is frank and direct about everything else, and Ai manages to understand that she just wants privacy in a way, they could get along very well. Kaoru being in the SC also helps with first impressions.

Great work! The Humanity Lost Alliance is a serious threat now. Really enjoyed Shu's luck gimmick and how into the fight Kentaro was - like the other anon said, all the villains liking the prez except Itsuro is pretty funny. The character interactions and vibes the group gives off was cool too, I liked the guys playing into Kenji's movie shit while Rin is annoyed.

Some ideas for if you plan on writing Kentaro's 'discovery' by the group:

I think for me, the through-line of Persona 3 is exploring how people handle death, and as a result characters who explore that narrative are who you want in that tier. At least for the main cast members, I think they all had to deal with loss, or were set up to experience it during the story (looking at you, Junpei.) Even the evil persona user group were similar, they just responded with nihilism.

So someone like Kenji is an absolute slam dunk. Ran could fit because of his near-death brother. Sarah could fit because she's being haunted by someone. I think Kanae bio implies she's seen people die and is fixated on it. Itsuki is pretty obvious. Ai is suicidal.

P5 on the other hand is more a story about chaffing under societal pressure and learning to stand up for yourself without just perpetuating bad cycles. Lots of the builds you have in there feel about right. I feel Reiji fits this pretty well, as does Sumi. Maybe you could argue Madoka because of her thing with her family, but she's probably better off with the P4 crew.

Speaking of P4, ngl, I don't have a through-line for that one. It'd probably be the broad 'everyone else goes here'.

Most of the Student Council is similar to the Investigation Team in general vibes. I was listening to a shitton of P5 music while working on Kaoru, down to the idea of referencing some kind of novelesque rogue hero (in this case, The Scarlet Pimpernel instead of Arséne Lupin novels), and a superhero vibe that P5 does and the others don’t.

I went to search about this Akechi, and they don't vibe. Itsuki wad actaully very normal before losing his crush (cucked by death), and he cannot hide his true nature.

Itsuki nowadays lost nearly all his rage and passion, he is an apathetic and indolent husk of what he was. He is self destructive, and is getting at the end of his hope, since his start is not at the start of the mp, but beforevit. He already went through negative character development and honestly, even he knows he is getting out of time inside.

It is not a matter of friendship, but what he lost. He may make new friends, but he has this gaping void left by his crush, she meant him the world, the love of his life even if he didn't know it at the time. He doesn't know how to go on, how to fill this void and live again, and new friends are just reminding him of the void.

Sola is harder to gauge because her info is more focused on skillsets than story and theme. We know she's a hacker and has a loyal personality, but not exactly why. A lot of the lack of background is...I don't really understand what tech level were working with because the hacker/geeky stuff seems at odds with the timeframe. I was going to write a intro piece that took place in a videogame but I couldnt ever pin down what would make sense.

So I mostly focused on the ninja aspects and the Ideolon.

Their first meeting could be a interesting writing though, maybe Momo was running from rivals or something (Tactical Retreat, Advancing in the other direciton, etc) and she helped pick a lock to get her to safety and thats where it began.

She definately embodied the Forward perk previously coasting through life. She traveled the world to commit 1337 cybercrimes and hack the planet and returned home - To live in a shitty apartment in the bad part of town alone.

So I will probably say that something happened to her parents that brought her back. Possibly to do with organized crime, and that's why she prefers the comparatively kind Senki to other groups that were taking over.

With Paradise lost, I think maybe the criminals were up to some spiritual shit and she's getting more proactive with joining others to solve the problem because of it.
She's taking Darker Nights less literally and supporting the Senki to make everyone safer (brightening the darkness) and just generally is a night-person.
And I feel like Mysterious Bleeding Zone ties it all together pretty well. Its not just a shithole, its a serious problem.

The tech level thing is... fair, honestly. I'm sure the idea of hacking still has some applications, but it is 2000 so... yeah. Can't blame you there. Video game wise, if this was real life we'd be seeing the release of the PS2, but who knows how the setting's tech lines up so, eh. I honestly can't make heads or tails of what to do there.

The organized crime angle makes pushing for the P5 tier make more sense, yeah. That's the shithead adults for the plucky teen hacker to rise up against. I’m a bit worried that my WIP writefag might seem a little contrived at parts.

Basically, there’s a scene where Kaoru asks Shu to just walk home while she follows from a distance. Her excuse is, she wants to figure out if Shu and Ai might live close to each other or share a commute. In truth, Kaoru just doesn’t want to tell him that Ai’s stalking him. Eventually, Kaoru does see Ai in the distance, and she has to make up a bullshit excuse for Shu to go home so she can pursue Ai by herself. The excuse I have up to now is “Ai’s scared of boys seeing her in sports wear, that’s why she skips PE, if you talk to her now you’ll make it worse so let me talk to her”. Of course, this is basically a plan for Kaoru to test how far Ai’s obsession with Shu goes. I don’t know if I would be writing Shu too much like a clueless idiot for this to work. Outside of that, even if there will be a confrontation and a brief fight, Kaoru will be revealing her own secret to Ai, so they’ll be more or less equal. Kaoru would confirm that Ai means no real harm to Shu, and would agree to help her get close to Shu if it means not missing out on PE anymore or generally trying to be a little more healthy, on top of keeping her yandere shit secret. Just a little character development for both, as Kaoru actually learns to more or less trust someone and Ai finds a friend that will help her not only get closer to Shu, but also be more healthy.

The reason for getting Shu to walk home feels a bit too odd. Maybe make up something else, like uh... Maybe Kaoru thinks someone might attack him (like the Humanity Lost crew), and she wants to lure them out. So Shu walking home is bait, and Kaoru following is to back him up (If you wanna be silly, this could even be a prequel to the recent Kentaro writefag, making the lie into reality.)

Then when Kaoru spots Ai, she could make up a different excuse- like maybe Kaoru is going to talk to Ai so she doesn't get caught up in the ambush, implying that Shu can't talk to Ai or he'll put Ai in danger.

Otherwise the Ai parts seem fine to me.

FUCK I wrote this over the whole day. This is either peak or terrible. I hope I managed to capture Ai properly, I was very inspired by her anon's writing when it came to her. I think these two characters work really well, and I hope they can work together in the future as they both sort out their own character arcs! I hope this is also a good introduction for Kaoru, too.
