Stupid question but I'm a returning Vanguard player I've played through G and V era and skipped Overdress era. Why do a lot of Vanguard players roleplay so much so much as the anime characters so much? Is the anime that good? I've played Yugioh so I'm aware there are anime fans but I've always feel like that the anime decks in Yugioh rarely reflected the actual in-game meta so I usually don't hear players talk about the latest episode at locals.

The last two metas actually revolved around anime decks, and back in set 13 of D, three of the main meta decks were roided out anime decks from the new support.

Granted, only Lianorn has received consistent support since then and has remained fairly strong, while Youth got a retrain and Drajeweled is the only one holding up with the power of being ten billion years old with two year old support the deck will run playsets of because everything else Dark States gets is hogwater 90% percent of the time, and also because said 2 year old support aged like wine such that Bushiroad has yet to make anything actually equal it.

I feel like most of this game's appeal revolves around hype related to riding, standing, luckshitting triggers and surviving turn 3-4 rush, literally what else are you suppose to do, just flip your cards in silence? It's funny how they made one of the would-be best Magnus support cards in the same set they made Dimmea, but as a Dragon Empire generic that's one of the reasons Vyrgilla is as strong as it is.

Having a properly refunded top 7 searcher for DJDs would do Magnus wonders, as it's all of Magnus' key pieces and also excludes the Ignis engine because the only DJD it ran was Rystal Galer as a tech slot for Forbidoll.

It's a solid choice and is almost certainly the reason Trickmoon got hit to 1 since every game Bavs could guarantee Vairlord if they saw Ars while also getting free soul.

However there was a build that didn't run it and still did well, deck space is still pretty tight to actually fit it in, and past turn 3 you need Kaankshati to convert it into an Arms or else it's a vanilla g3 unless you throw in Suendi, which I've seen some lists do that would help recur Cindi easier while also getting Bavs a huge beatstick later in the fight.

Rebuild's turn 4 has always been one of the deadliest in standard and Keter Pile is even more obnoxious with the Nebula order.
The new support helps with the lost early game caused by ditching the minerva order between having a very flexible top 7 searcher and an in archetype maple. the only thing Youth could ask for is some removal

Some form of advantage generation, especially when they inevitably hit or errata the Nebula order after a while because that shit is too useful in its current state. Straight up another 4 copies of Fire Regalis any Keter deck can use that also enables order engine.

After they cripple Keter pile at some point, I could see a Gust/Tempest hybrid, but that anticipates a slower format which we are far from seeing; currently Youth as no need of a Tempest retrain because the format is extremely fast due to Bavsargra telling every other midrange and grind deck to fuck off and shaping the meta around herself since set 7.

Bavs should've backstepped by getting the same restriction every non-Masques Drajeweled has where she needs to be against G3 for the critical. The deck already crushes early commit boards due to the front row retire and mace before hunkering down with the shield.

Still hoping Nannaclir wasn't the designers saying Sephirogila was a mistake, because it's a diet version of the same deck but with a usable fourth attack no matter the build.

I think Art and Linker are good in the sense they're more midrange decks in a currently high aggro format, but Veissrugr is only towing the aggro line after they made gave it everything it needed and then some; deck does have a number of ways you can play and tweak it despite the shit ton of staples, it still leans towards aggro like most decks.

Veissrugr and Artisaria are cool decks, I'd build them if I could afford them but a lot of the new decks coming out just don't interest me. Nannaclir is boring, Tuarina is boring, Grauwwind dragon is whack, Dinabarada might be cool I should actually look at how that deck works. Sweetlinker might be cool too, I haven't paid much attention to the lyrical reveal season. I'm so used to checking out mentally because they support old decks I can't find the key pieces to because I'm so limited in how I can buy singles.

All of this plus a duel in which Yuyu wins because he knows what cards Zakuza has left in his hand and plays based on that.

How's Weiss nowadays? My friends want to rope me back into it.

I went through some of my inventory. I have 12 V decks that were mostly built that never got to see play from VBT08 onward. It would be more if I didn't stop huffing copium about our locals coming back after covid, so I didn't buy any of the Reverse clan selection cards.
It's pretty depressing. Even if locals survived, V got replaced with D so they'd still likely be completely unplayed.

I even fell for the VBT09 Gun Salute support.

Even when Bavs only has three attacks, it still has a stupidly efficient advantage engine with the free 20k shield every turn, Cindi recovering your main booster and soul while also obliterating the opponent's field every turn when the arms are gathered past turn 3.

The deck didn't even need the attack extension to be nuts when it could also produce huge numbers on turn 3 into a g2 with Trickmoon; Yyug is primarily useful in fixing your hand on turn 2, especially going second when your opponent knows two of your hand cards are bricks; Bavs can just keep swinging double critical triple drive huge number every turn as an alternative to a five attack kill turn since it also damage denies the opponent and makes them deal with the grind game.

Even if you have 140 dollars burning a hole in your pocket, the game is barely even good for online play since it's so fucking outdated. DZ BT06 only released in that game a few weeks ago. Meanwhile, one week later DZ BT10 dropped in english. For the low low price of 20 fucking dollars.

This shit is only good for bullying NPCs before that gets boring. They sent it out to die just like the first one.

thinking about playing again since getting out of the game at the start of Overdress, is the game alright or has powercreep turned it into shit?

Powercreep kicked into gear after set 13 of D, seemed to stabilize a bit going into DZ until set 5 and 7 dropped top tier decks and the game's currently revolving around 5 attack decks with either extremely good recursion, good removal or both.

At the very least, the current top deck seems to be a going second deck, and at least one low tier archetype managed to shoot from bottom to tier 1 status overnight, and there's quite a few alright decks but the top is pretty samey except for the former tier 0 deck in bavsargra, who lost a kneecap and is stealing a rogue deck's new support to bounce back.

Do you have a local store that sells vanguard? If want a fully functional deck right off the box then your only options are the master decksets.
If not your digital option is quite literally only Dear Days 2 and the meta in that game is like 2 years behind the psychical game, unless you buy the DLC to still end up playing a 1 year old meta. (Online is pretty dead btw)
