Necromunda pals, I have a few questions about specialists and genestealer cults.
The rules for genestealer cults don't mention specialists, but they say one guy can take a special weapon, does that mean he's a specialist? can he spend XP like one? The rules say new neophyte hybrids can take special weapons as they are added, does this mean they can be specialists as they want for free? what if a ganger rolls a "become a specialist" advancement? does he become 20 creds more expensive for no gain?

Alright after extensive googling, I think I got it, they're from before specialists were a defined thing, so their rules are pretty bespoke, RAW, "specialist" only means you get to spend experience like you want, special weapons have nothing to do with it, however, this leads to special weapon spam so its recommended you bolt on newer specialist rules, with one free specialist at the start of the game, and only specialists being able to take special weapons.

RAW they are not specialist and you can spam Special Weapon. But you came up with the normal, rational house rule.

Welcome to Specialist Games, where people joined because they can't get position at 40k department, and can't wait for a transfer. Necromunda was written by so many people nobody cares or give a fuck what's going on. Game didn't have any FAQ for a long time now, because no one at GW play this. And they had a moron making the FAQ too, it's an image so you can't even search for the words normally.

Reason why you get strange interactions like the Magnacles.
The rules for the thing even in the new book just say it need to do an attack action. No need to hit or wound. Forcing the opponent to make an initiative test.
So you could use some Concussion carbine and give your opponet some -2 initiative and send some rookie missile with some Magnacles to lock models in place to prevent them from moving, shooting, charging.

Nearly ever Squat hand weapon has the Power Pack rule, which is so vaguely written it's unclear if it works like a regular melee weapon and replaces unarmed attacks or if its additional attack works if the model already has two hand weapons.

Painting plastic Morannon orcs right now. Not only they are terrible sculpts and I hate them, but they have so much fucking metal and so many tiny pieces of armor that doing edge highlighting is pretty difficult, especially because metallic colors behave like crap when you try to thin them. Maybe I'm just shit at metallics, but I hate how they're looking, too little contrast.
Perhaps some kind of weird NMM is better for this? I don't know, it's probably my fault, it's not all on the sculpts, but man they look like crap.

I would like to see Black Orc's get a nice buff, nothing much maybe an extra movement or something else to help them out. i I get they are meant to be slow but movement 4 just results of other teams just easily outpacing them.

Looking forward to seeing what they do with Humans, I hope they give allot of what's considered bad teams buffs.

Did GW ever make the different variants of space marines battlebarge and strike cruiser (Mk1, Mk2, etc)? or you were supposed to only use the same miniature? i know a that mostly chaos and imperials had modular ships and stuff like light cruiser and escorts had their different variants modeled, but what about the other factions?

Yeah PPW is very poorly written and can be easily misinterpreted. I agree with >>96852200 interpretation as it makes the most sense after going over it previously. PPWs are weapons you can take in excess to your normal weapon limit, with a cap of 2 of them. They all have Sidearm or Melee and follow the normal rules for those, I.e. Twin Guns Blazing or close combat etc. They can be used in excess of normal weapon limits for melee in which case they give +1A using that weapon profile, otherwise they can be used normally as a Melee or Sidearm in close combat and follow the rules for that but don't get that +1A.

The biggest issue with PPWs is that GW decided to add the Circular Stone Saw as an option for everyone which is great, but then only put one on the accessory sprue meaning you only get 2 from the whole accessory box. That is some absolute bullshit.

Mordheim has always kind of been floating around, but what would have triggered a resurgence of attention is The Old World releasing which sparked discussion of the potential return of other WHFB ancillary/spin-off games. That or probably more general discussion around skirmish games in a similar vein to Mordheim. It only takes one video being successful for the algorithm to pick it up and the vultures swoop in.

We already have BFG.
We have rules for the full spectrum of 40k factions.
We have dozens of fleet lists to build from.
We have mechanics for everything from boarding to teleport attacks to manifesting daemon ships to DE slave raids.
We already have a full Horus Heresy spin-off including Legion traits and Gloriana ships.
We have dozens of sculptors producing models for every ship class in the game.
We already have a worldwide playerbase.

We do not need a new BFG that breaks up what we already have, only to sell it back to us piece-by-piece and stupider.
The game is already complete.

It's going to happen for the same reason Blood Bowl was brought back into their fold in 2016: if they don't do something with it they will lose IP rights for disuse.
So GW doing BFG is actually an attack on BFG to prevent the community efforts from being used as the influx of incredibly vocal whales that buy whatever GW does with it will rabidly crusade across the internet in an all out war to convince people that it is the only option.
On the one hand we don't want consumer noobs or their whale commanders in the game, but on the other hand it will serve to obfuscate and bury all existing groups who play the loving crafted community rules, internet searches for videos or local groups will invariably direct you to GW garbage from the day of it's release onward.

Like they've consistently done?

The new version of Necromunda is superior to the old version of Necromunda. The new version of Titanicus was widely lauded. The newest versions of Kill Team mog the shit out of the old ones. Games with no direct predecessor (like WarCry and Underworlds) get widespread generally-good reviews for their gameplay.

I played BFG in the early 2000's. I bought one sprue (box?) of Imperial ships and eventually gave up because I didn't want to play the Imperium and I was a child (so any consideration of something like FW would have been out of the question). I still have the sprue(s) and bits from the Imperial ships, although I have chopped up many of the parts for terrain embellishment and conversions throughout the years.

I can't fully agree with this. I haven't played the first edition, but I've played a lot of Shadow War Armageddon (which is basically a first edition Necromunda with minimal changes and 40k factions instead of gangs).

The only two major advantages of the newmunda over oldmunda is that it has alternative activations (longer games, but less downtime for each player) and that a single failed bottle check does end the scenario right away (which was very gay and I hate Mordeheim for this as well). Other than that, the old melee combat was much involved, the old advancement system was better and the game was a well-made ruleset within 1 book instead of overbloated mess that is impossible to play without online rule compilation like [Necroraw.ru].

Its a matter of taste, but I prefer oldmunda approach, where gangs started out very similar, but became vastly different over the course of the campaign due to random advancements and trading post rolls.

For the newmunda all gangs start as special snowflakes with ridiculous unique shit but level up Toughness, BS and spam the best 1 or 2 skills from their available skill tables.

There is one additional plus for the newmunda compared to the oldmunda which I forgot to mention though, the removal of overwatch as a general core mechanic. I had a few games in SWA resulting in an overwatch stand-off, where both sides were forced to sit and wait.

Without having actually played N95 your words don't carry much weight. Shadow War does indeed pilfer some mechanics from N95 but not when it comes to the campaign and rosters. You are romanticising the game, which I say as someone who did play N95 when it was new and plays N17/23 now. N95 is great fun but it is massively limited compared to N23 even if the staggered release with 2 restarts largely fucked keeping the rules together in a coherent manner. That being said insofar as the actual rules for play you only need N23 which is worth having in hardback. Making rosters or playing specific campaigns is where other books come in. And even then it is generally 1-2 which you will be fine with pirating PDFs for. It is also fairly easy to find stuff in the books once you realise they basically standardised the order of sections in the books and put them in a logical grouping and order.

This is a cop-out answer because you drew a complete blank.

Your weapon and equipment information will be on your fighter cards or roster sheet. The vast majority of other information will be in the main rulebook, and your gang special rules will be in your "codex" equivalent (assuming you're too lazy to print yourself a game aid with the 2-3 pieces of information you will actually need from a House book in a single game).

You're either clueless or holding it to a fake standard ("I need to be able to look up any possible rule my opponent could bring [which is why I always carried 10 codexes to every game of 40K]")

Eldar are not fun to play against unless you are ready for them and have the ability to get close enough to not get overly fucked by their faction rules. If you are starting out it is better to do something more simple like Imperial vs Imperial or Imperial vs Chaos. Once you are all familiar with the rules and have grasped them then start looking at using fancier factions. But regardless inform your friend beforehand that you intend to play Eldar so he can see what he is getting into.

Shadow War was different simply by virtue of the gear options were all based off the various kits that you could use in it. It was actually the perfect entry platform to cross sell players into 40k. It is so retarded that it died because of internal division rivalry at GW. My only complaint about Shadow War was the poorly thought out advance and campaign systems. You could clearly see that it was a product thrown together in a weekend. However it could easily have been developed further or had a 2.0 that expanded on it. I know they killed it to make way for KT which could also have worked but not quite as elegantly as Shadow War had the potential to. And then they just went full pants on head retarded even more for KT2.0.

N95 boiled down to have more guns than your opponent. And have better range on those guns than your opponent. Getting into melee reliably was a pipe dream unless you had things like Infiltrate or Vents/Tunnels. And even then you could negate that to a large degree. The rest was just get lucky to build enough creds to equip a handful of fighters well, and the rest were lasgun fodder or ablative wounds for your Heavy/s. Advances were a combination of praying for the right stat boost or rolling 2 or 12 so you could choose from skill tables you didn't normally have access to. Gang disparity could generate very quickly and become insurmountable. All this being said you could very much have fun with it, but things could get very bullshit very fast and it would get to a point where you just didn't want to play against specific players anymore because it just meant free XP for them and more injuries for you. Great game for its time and will always be a classic, but mechanically N23 arguably quantitively superior despite its flaws.

Now you're moving the goalposts from needing the books during play to needing the books in your life whatsoever.

Yes, you need the books if you want to enjoy an all-encompassing complete (to-date) version of the game. If you are non-autistic and can accept a partial version of the game without mentally collapsing then there are many books you can ignore completely. Using all of the books offers a far richer, deeper, layered, and textured experience than Oldcromunda ever did, which is why so many people choose to use them all.

That is what N23 is for. You will spend more time arguing over how to interpret poorly worded rules than you will trying to find the rules. It is no where near as hard to get into melee in N23 compared to N95. Not by a long shot. Having different movement values, variable charge distance, Overwatch being a skill rather than standard rule, the list goes on. Having trouble engaging in melee in N23 is an issue of player tactics rather than mechanical shortcomings like in N95. Alternative activation alone already played a massive role in fixing that compared to IGYG. Fodder will always be a thing simply due to weight of fire being king, but there are more ways around it now and in-built deployment size limitations on scenarios helps too. It is hard to really explain how different it is unless you really experienced N95 first hand with any sizeable campaign. Now you mostly only run into sustained problems if people are intentionally power gaming like an asshole, rather than it consistently becoming a dumpster fire organically. It is also funny that someone posted a snippet from Underhive earlier in the thread which is the version of N95 that contributed to the GW forums getting shut down because we all kept posting about how much of a lazy hack copy and paste job it was and missed taking out all the references to catching fire. Fun times.

Hi hi
Necromunda rules for GSC say models can't be given a weapon of a type not allowed in their entry list.
Does that mean type as in, "shotgun with solid and scatter ammo" or "basic weapon, special weapon, close combat weapon"?
In other words, I for sure cannot equip a heavy bolter on a neophyte hybrid, but can I equip it on an acolyte, because his fighter card mentions Heavy Weapons?

It means "basic, pistol, special, heavy, etc." because those are what weapon types are in Necromunda.

Do be aware that the GSC rules are quite old in the lifespan of Necromunda, and the game has changed around them without being updated. All the gangs that DID receive updates now have a different sort of system for weapon allowances.

If you join a campaign with a competent arbitrator your expectation should be that a version of those changes will be backported onto GSC. The main ramification of this will be that you cannot spam special weapons on regular gangers.

Fear of everything. Fear and insecurity are the core motivating emotions of conservatism, and the Nothing New, Evers are largely conservatives.

It's possible to break down all the types of fear/things you fear, but I'm not going to do that comprehensively. Here's a starter pack:

fear of death: clinging to your childhood likes makes you feel like you're staving off the void

fear of inexpertise: you're worried other people will surpass you in <new> version of thing

fear of waste: you fear the feeling of concluding your expended time, study, experience of <old> version was a waste if <new> version takes over

fear of inadequacy: you fear not being good at or grasping <new> knowledge or paradigm and being overmatched by other people participating in the same thing

fear of other people: you fear darkies, people with dyed hair, all these ineffectual groups you are constantly sweating over possibly having to interact with in a hobby context

fear of swindling: you fear being "ripped off," the possibility of accidentally paying $20 extra for something and then later determining it wasn't worth that amount gives you nightmares

You're just a huge ball of insecurity. You oppose any movement or change because it unavoidably alters your current position and self-conception of mastery by some fractional amount. Normal people are chill and can roll with the punches and shrug off tiny displeasures or defeats. You are softer than shit, and want to be protected in eternal stasis.

It isn't about the movement distances themselves that makes it more reliable and happen more often in N23 compared to N95, it is alternative activation, attacker swinging first, and the variable nature of the distance meaning people can/will take more risks moving into the max range of a charge to do stuff. In N95 you needed 2 whole turns of yours and one of your opponents to get a charge if you were out of range, where as in N23 if you activate last in a turn and win priority you can activate and charge a model first before they can run. Even just forcing that consideration of who/what to activate first creates more opportunity since he can't waltz his whole gang away before you can do anything. In melee as well as much fun as N95 melee was to do it largely came down to who was the better rapist and there was little a non-melee focused fighter could do about it. In N23 counter charging a good melee fighter is at least a little viable since you can swing first even if it is only 2 attacks at poor stats. So regardless of what anyone says I believe it is provable that melee in N23 reliably happens more often compared to N95. This is before even getting into various roster and gear options.

I'll point out some less subtle buffs. The big ones are definitely in not just skill access, but what skills are found where now:

>The best fouling related skill is probably still Dirty Player, which nearly the entire team can pick up on a normal skill up, instead of just the rats
>free stab on the gutter runner
>free strip ball and +MA on the blitzer (lol skaven had to lose half of their gutter runners to get this)
>in general the entire team is going to be better at keeping up with attrition because fouls are going to be strong this edition - aside from more access to cheap DP, there is also Lone Fouler, which lets you re-roll the armor roll for a solo foul. There's no restrictions on using other foul skills with this, meaning you basically have the old Piling On + Mighty Blow combo, but for fouls.

Anonymous No.96871116 [Report] >>96871371
>>96871068
So the core strategy for every team is to control when you score. Optimal play is to score on your last turn so the opponent has only one turn left which usually isnt enough. If you just run the ball to the finish line and score in 5 turns, its absolutely trivial for the opponent to equalize.

Thus, there are a variety of ways to play a drive of BB. You can move the ball surrounded by your players slowly and deliberately on the pitch inching forwards until on final turns you make a dash towards the finish line.
Alternatively you can keep your ball carrier deep within your own half, screen or bash at the enemy for a while, before then rapidly moving the ball up.

If you go with the usual slow grind you might get an opportunity to run past the enemy team early while still having enough players to set up a screen or cage to protect your carrier. Then you try to protect the carrier near the opponent's end of the pitch for a turn or two before scoring.
This is what is called stalling. The opponent has made a terrible mistake, allowing you to run past his team with multiple players.
The new rule can heavily punish you if you take advantage of the opponent's mistake. Instead seemingly the correct play is to ignore the mistake and just advance with the ball carrier during the final turns.

So literally all this does is remove agency from the play to punish horrible positioning from the defending team. Its a really odd change since stalling isnt an issue with competent players. It only angers retards who dont comprehend basic BB strategy, do not defend, do not pressure the ball and just allow for stalling to happen.
Anonymous No.96871184 [Report] >>96871216
What if you don’t activate the player with the ball and his cage?
Anonymous No.96871216 [Report] >>96871223
>>96871184
There's a rule explaining how players can activate and just maintain their position without having to do any mandatory rolls from skills or traits (aka stand and do nothing), but that for the purposes of the anti-stall rule, any players that would be subject to it that is activated in this way is still considered to have been activated for the purpose of that rule.

There is nothing about the actual loop hole, which is to deliberately cause a turnover with another player while holding a stall position.
Anonymous No.96871223 [Report] >>96871237
>>96871216
And do you HAVE to activate every player in a turn? Are you forced to? This may sound secondary as fuck but I’m used to playing on fumbbl (despite having a physical team) and on that you can just not activate pieces
Anonymous No.96871237 [Report] >>96871278
>>96871223
Yes, the way the turn structure is described in 2020 and this edition is that each coach's turn is played by choosing and activating the players on the field they control one at a time until there are none left or a turnover occurs, either one being the way the turn ends. This was a problem early on in 2020 because people realized this meant things like big guy traits were forced to be rolled every turn, so GW faq'd a similar clause about how players can be "activated" without having to do any mandatory rolls and just hold position.

In practice this obviously means basically the same thing as in 2016 and CRP rules, but has room for weird little distinctions like this anti-stall rule.

You clearly didn't look at OWA. Tree losing loner alone would have been massive, much less block dwarfs, tackle Blitzer, sprint runner... Who the hell thought making a dwarf runner faster than a human thrower was a good idea??

But yes, S access orc linos are going to be game breaking in perpetual environments. And Mr.Throw is suddenly useful with MA 6.

Almost every team that was changed got a buff except humans and skaven, who both got massively debuffed. The sleeper buffs are Chaos with cheaper RR and thick skull; thick skull is massively underrated on linos, reducing KOs by more than half. Yes it sucks to lose S access but you are also saving ~70k of TV based on the reduced costs. Nobs got a huge upgrade as well, as their main problem was being overcosted and now that is not an issue, along with AG3+ linos which is massive for no cost increase.

Also, Frostgave has a lot of narrative campaigns across its books that are fun to run through.

I'd still keep working on your Mordheim warbands as well and just join a local gaming Discord to see if you can get guys to join a campaign. I'd even consider playing your Frostgrave campaign at a store to meet more people interested in that type of game and seeing if they want to try Mordheim.
