/ktg/ Kill Team Generalissimo
I'm about to start playing for the first time and would appreciate if someone could expand a little on the difference between Veteran Guardsmen and Kasrkin. Another player will almost certainly end up playing Death Korps, so I wouldn't mind trying something different for the sake of variety but I am just baffled by the number of warbands and kill team editions that are involved. While I would prefer something Imperial Guard related I am happy to play any human warband that is not too difficult.
Thanks.

Veteran Guardsmen were the name for Death Korp in the previous edition.
If you want imperial teams, you are spoiled for options:
Kasrkin, Exaction, Navy Breachers, Sanctifiers, Ratlings, Starstriders, Inquistorial Agents, Tempestus Aquilons, and the aforementioned Death Korp of Krieg.
Of the bunch I think Kasrkin or Aquilons are the most straight forward. But just pick what you think looks coolest

Apparently GW even sent out a further followup email to WCW players with even more changes and clarifications that didn't make it into today's update. One would imagine those should make it into an faq shortly before or after worlds.

Against a lot of teams you'll want to set up to grab objectives. That way, you force the enemy to engage into you, and depending on the crit op you might be scoring points immediately. Use your heavy hitters as backup to take out the enemy offenders and then retreat them to safety.
Consider dropping one basic trooper to get the siege warfare ploy for free all game. Accurate 1 is good, even better if you manage to stack it with a vantage point for accurate 2.
Also, take martyrs. It's giga broken, basically turning those mooks that die on the objective into one or two VPs for you each.
Catachan KT idea
>Jungle Fighters
a 12 man team of Catachan fighters. The first 10 are the standard battleline plus upgrade sprue, but the other two make up the Catachan Colonel and his Scoutmaster. Classic commsman, medic, two gunners, two knives guy, etc
Their team ability is that they can Flank enemies. If two Jungle Fighters are within 9 inches of an enemy and more than 90 degrees apart (convenient right angle measuring widget included in their tokens), they are Flanking that op. If they are exactly 180 degrees apart they get Super Flanking. Base flanking gives Accurate 1 but Super Flanking gives Critical Accurate 1 (Like Accurate 1 but a guaranteed crit). Some abilities benefit from Flanking and a strategy ploy can cheat Flanking in. To help with Flanking, they also move faster when on the enemy's half of the board.

Also reminder that when KT21 released, 5 man marines were the standard and tactical squad/chaos marines got 6 only because they were so much weaker. Comparing launch intercessors to current AoD or launch deathwatch to current is a pretty funny experiment, you can see such huge improvements in the capabilities of the teams.

Plasma - P1, great damage.

Plasma is the generalist, but the melta is better against high SV and Heavy Bolter just spits damage.

Usually I don't think range matters - majority of important shots will be within 2" where you can deny concealment and all that - but since gunners this good are so valuable, the ability to keep the gunner back in cover, bait an enemy out to engage, and then punish them with the plasma before retreating often is more valuable. The melta is a good opening sacrifice but the plasma is a more persistant threat (and against amything short of a marine, melta is usually overkill anyways).

I will honestly change the difficulty rating for Deathwatch to pretty easy. The limited number of operatives is not really a malus unless against a very skilled opponent that can capitalize on it.
Canoptek are also not that hard to play. They require a little positioning, but they have operatives that are very hard to kill or respawning so they are very forgiving, they are not Mandrakes where if you fuck up a teleport you lose half of your squad.

It's a decently wide strip but it needs to be set up for ahead of time, if you set it up too far up your opponent will just overwhelm your position, if you set it up too far back you restrict your own access to the objective, and if you get things out of position it's slow to fix. Thinking over it again it does feel like a solid yellow rating is probably too high, but setting it as "retard proof" would necessitate lowering the rating of a whole bunch of other teams.

Sanctifiers can really benefit from some magnets, so if you're able to and willing to work with those I'd recommend it. It lets you switch out several of the more niche operatives each game as needed, and the gunner options open up too. I even managed to snag an extra body to use by converting another human model, and in total that one bonus preacher swap-in plus the magnets means I can field any model combo I would actually want.
If not, for a single box of sanctifiers, you honestly can choose a bit depending on your personal preference.
Obviously some stuff is mandatory, the operatives with unique bodies. You'd never not want to take the miraculist and assassin anyways, and the healer is nice to have when you've got damage resistance. It has always overperformed for me personally for some reason.
When equipping the gunners, the relics are really good, so you'll likely take flamer with relic and then pick the other weapon based on preference. Plasma is the team's only infinite range weapon, but melta hits harder and gets a relic to compensate.
You'll get four bodies that can be built as either preachers or specialists. I've yet to encounter a situation where I didn't want to have the persecutor and conflagrator, so I recommend those. Drill abbot and reliquant are more niche, so again it depends on preference if you'd rather have them or generic preachers that just have good weapons.
Hey friends, I haven't played since last edition (Orks Index 4 lyfe). What is the best Guard KillTeam to play?

Stealth suits are pretty tough builds. They're likely going to be the equivalent of somewhat lower wound marines armed with meltaguns and super stealth abilities (going by the vespid stealth operative, it could be complete untargetability at more than 6" range when concealed, ignoring piercing, and cover saves becoming crit saves applying for the entire team). They can absolutely be the equivalent of a bunch of mostly unarmoured bugs.

I highly doubt it's because of that. Probably is because of supply lines or similar management things. If that was the reason they could have just removed the Tomb World scatter terrain in order to put it into a later box, it's even in separated sprues already.

The one issue is the different armour marks. You need some way to differentiate between the models that are supposed to be tacticus, phobos, and gravis, since they have different stats. Especially the gravis ones, since they should have a larger silhouette and would look weird on a whole 40mm base.
But it's absolutely a good choice for how to make them. Picrel is how I added a gravis operative to my team, converted mostly from a tartarus terminator.

>Plasma is a huge problem in KT18
Speaking as someone who played a lot of that edition, the problem was less plasma itself and more with the games series of binary pass/fail checks for combat rolls and multiple stacking penalties for shooting making anything that wasn't absurdly lethal basically pointless. Boltguns, lasguns, etc were all pea-shooters that did nothing 95% of the time and that's not an exaggeration. You were basically forced into taking nothing but the absolute most overkill weaponry if you wanted your models to kill stuff with any degree of reliability.
Pic related: a KT18 boltgun.
Which of these teams do you guys think is going to be FOTM OP team everyone whines about relentlessly?

It was definitely further exaggerated by the awful points balancing. I haven't been able to find the end-of-edition numbers after all balance changes, but at the start of the edition the price for a lasgun-wielding guardsman with that 5% chance to do anything per shot (against other guardsmen) was 4 points. A space marine with a bolter that doubled those odds was 14. These were paperweights that could be counted on for nothing but holding an objective.
Meanwhile, replacing that lasgun or bolter with a plasma, a weapon with the perfect statline for scoring kills against most enemies without getting too overkilly costed 5 points. Pretty obvious why special weapons dominated so much when 5 marines with a good chance to one-shot most things were equivalent to 7 that could score maybe one kill per game between them.

General wisdom says bolt pistol and chainsword. Chainsword is not going to be that big of a downgrade from power sword, being its equal in several matchups. Lethal on the bp meanwhile lets it more reliably deal damage to everything and the 8 and 10 wound breakpoints that 5 crit damage reaches are common.
That said, either loadout works quite well and you should let personal preference affect the choice.
Just don't build the carbine loadout. It has negligible upsides and big downsides.

Yep I remember my friend just doing the big combo of having his comms guy, heavy weapons guy, and all of their bonuses delete a guy every turn while most other guns were piddly and did very little. I liked the edition but it could be gamed really hard.

There's enough models out there to field most factions, albeit they'll look RTish/Oldhammery, especially infantry and supports. I'm torn between proxying and printing for centrepiece models.

It's the egg dome helmet similar to XV25. XV26 should just have been an upgraded version of XV25, and keep the XV25 name.

Based on a quick review of the Core Rules, I believe that you can use the Krusha to pusha one model into Control Range of another model. There is no hard Core Rule that states you can only enter Control Range on a model via the Charge Action (it is just that the other actions which move a model stipulate that you cannot end in Control Range).

Put your dice in an oven with the 6 side pointed up just long enough to where they dont start visibly melting
The insides of the dice will sink and make that side heavier and make the 6 more likely to hit

I grew to dislike it a lot at the time but over the years I've softened up on it some. It's a perfectly serviceable "small-scale 40k" experience and it had some good ideas like the roster system, which did a lot of heavy lifting to balancing out games so long as both players were building competent rosters. I'd like it more if it didn't have so many trap options.

An option, typically a unit or a weapon, that serves no real purpose other than to be a detriment to take, usually due to poor balancing - basically something that is a "trap" for a less knowledgeable player to fall into. This anon gave a great example:
>>96926626 if you're not familiar with KT18, you'd think a standard space marine should be a reasonable model to pick for your team, but they're so bad at killing anything it's basically just a paperweight for sitting on objectives, and it costs so much that it eats into points that could have been spent on an actually useful model like a marine gunner with a special weapon, making it a detriment to have included in your team in the first place.
Most miniature games that have a significant list-building component will have some amount of trap options because of the difficulty of balancing dozens if not hundreds of choices, but KT18 has a particularly egregious amount; while there were few truly useless units, the number of useless weapons has to have been at least 50% of the games arsenal, and that's probably being too generous.

You'll find the errata and rules for the teams on the warhammer community website
IMO you can never go wrong with wahapedia.ru/kill-team3/the-rules/core-rules/ as your main source and ko-fi.com/jamesandthegiantsquig/shop for printing out condensed team rules and handy cheatsheets
Both these sources are usually updated pretty quick whenever GW pushes a balance update

Win by scoring points.
Your drone should have LOS to the tunel on turn 2/3.
Play flank as secondary, move to the other side of the tunel for free points.
The sniper is your best bet to drop one revener with one shot.
Pick a warrior instead of the flamer.
Focus fire the targets one by one.
Stack all the possible rerolls + ap1.
Extra movement will be great to score.
Kill op points are not the focus just a bonus.

Always been the case. The game has a lot of fat that could use trimming to help get to the meat of what is at its core a pretty solid ruleset.

They are likely pre-measuring every potential move with millimetre precision to analyze all their options in those games.
When I play at my usual location, a 3 hour game is usually accompanied by my opponent agonizing over every choice for minutes trying to find some magical alternative solution. 2 and a half hours is more average. At our community's tournaments, 2 hours is the usual time allowed for a game. That's including time for game setup, too.
