30k added a terminator "siege" squad which is one with 4 heavy weapons. It is quite fun but very expensive as it does the same as a devastator squad but with way heavier armour and less transport flexibility. A decent sidegrade id balances peoperly. But I think the issue with terminators lies in the fact that they need to be treated as a melee unit first and foremost but weapon balance is shit in 10th so none of their weapons are particularly useful. Storm bolters need to be assault and pistol to complement this and the current lethality of the game means a single heavy weapon isn't very impactful compared to other units. If 40k had actual morale rules they couls be used to inflict statuses at least.

We had some difficulty figuring it out at first but once we got going it actually worked really well. We went with that kinda rounded triangle for the objective and then each of us got 3 terrain pieces for our deployment zone. The politics were kinda annoying at first. It started with what was effectively a ceasefire between me and the Death Guard, then I was betrayed and they started to gang up on me. Death Guard guy ended up double crossing both of us so we then teamed up against him because he was almost at full strength. Finally it was just a free for all when we were all basically crippled and my sanguinary guard and Ballistus basically swept the table.

After the game we started thinking up rules for 3-way matches and actually came up with some cool ideas. We want to create what is essentially a point system that allowed you to spend points to interact with other player. Like command points, you can spend them on pre-determined legal interactions as you would stratagems. Both players need to spend points to do this and then the 3rd party has the option to roll to make their interaction fall through.

So basically for a temporary ceasefire, both players would need to spend a point to agree on it, then the 3rd could roll let’s say a d6 and on 5+ that ceasefire would fail. To prevent players from just disobeying the agreements there would be penalties. Like if the ceasefire was broken by one party, all of their attacks would get a -1 to hit against them that turn and their target would get a +1 to their saving throws for those attacks. Then let’s say the 3rd party made the ceasefire fail, the 3rd party would get those benefits this round.

"Unviable" is a bullshit term when people talk about how useful Terminators are, and people tend to talk about units as if they are only good if they're perfect at what they do -and- undercosted. Regular Terminators lack punch at range for how tanky and expensive they are, Assault Terminators are in a similar way for melee. They are still a strong unit that are a motherfucker to have to remove from somewhere, but for their cost they should be less of an obstacle and more of an outward threat to match with how hard they are to kill and their points cost.

Nta but lots of people do this. It's so common that there's a whole debate on whether you should paint them in their origin chapter colours or the successor scheme. I think picking a successor also gives you tonnes freedom to have yourdudes interacting with their progenitor chapter and other successors more

I don't see why that would be a problem, people aren't going to get hung up on livery unless you are playing yellow-painted Crimson Fists as Raven Guard or something, and that's still an edge case because Space Marines are still Space Marines with slightly different toppings. I think it would actually be pretty cool narratively to have a known hero like Lysander leading a force of Crimson Fists. Maybe he was there for some kind of inter-chapter exchange, maybe he's leading a recently re-consolidated force while a new commander is chosen. Maybe it's the other way around and the Crimsons are a kind of army-sized Honor Guard for him and shit went down.

Personally I like the old RT idea of Genestealer that they are native species of the galaxy.
It would explain why they are so spread out across the galaxy way before the nids where even a thing.
But I could also mix the them with nids as a species that got coopted by them since they already have their own broodmind, project some kind of light house like the astronomicon on their own and also build their own bioweapon.
