it's faintly frowned upon because the norm is them being greenskins, but you can paint your models however you want and people don't really say anything as long as they're neatly painted

it may help having an explanation for why your orks are red, for autistic purists, but it's more a matter of striking a conversation or having a keystone to guide some conversions or iconography

say for example your dudes aren't actually red skinned but paint themselves in red, you would then perhaps keep some green showing or paint the red differently than how you would a skin surface
or they may be red because of something funky going on with their spores, you might reinforce that with mushrooms caps growing on them and/or white dots, on the red, to parallel a shroom
or, in opposition to how warcraft orcs are naturally red but become green with demon juice, yours may have been naturally green but turned red after some deal with demons, which would justify chaotic elements, sigils and mutations

or your dudes are red for no reason, that works too, but it's a shorter conversation

My experience going to a 3-game tournament ever other month or so is that very few people play meta lists just because it isn't a casual game day. Meta lists aren't win buttons, sometimes the dice tell you to fuck off with your faggotry, more often people are using meta lists without having much experience with how they actually work. The people to look out for are the ones playing a list all the time with tweaks between game days.
I think you're over-thinking it, tournaments are not much different from your normal game night at the local store. If you don't behave like a hypercompetetive dickhead they're pretty laid back, people help each other with positioning, allow you do moves you communicated you intended to but got lost in the mix and whatnot.

There’s an old post about an animator giving life drawing lessons at an art school and being mobbed afterwards by students wanting to know more.
Modern ‘art’ pivoted away from life drawing in the 50’s and 60’s because that required talent and/or effort and was ‘exclusionary’. Subsequent generations of art teachers grew up without knowledge of anatomy and musculature as most ‘art’ was shitty self-portraits made by nepo babies who dint need their art to be successful or profitable to make a living.
And so we are here, with models being designed by people with no anatomical knowledge, no sense of dynamism, no experience in capturing movement to portray drama. Instead they just paste on dozens of greebles in Blender and call it a day.
The old-school sculptors were passionate and hands-on, but the progressive enshittification of the 40k aesthetic demands bland characterless models. I’d give a kidney for Orks to be rebooted as a range with Seb Perbert as lead designer.

I actually liked that , one of my problems with GW writing in recent times is that its been too much like capeshit where nobody ever dies despite always being in constant war, I liked sevatar as a character because he isnt just a chad, but also dies off screen and nobody quite remembers how.

I could get behind this, if only because Warhammer is more fun when it seems less like Character Fight and more like Everyone on the Table Is Expendable. From a lore perspective, named characters are fine, but in game itself it kind of fucks with the intended feel of 40k.

Ignoring the fact that there's a magic to coming up with names and ideas for your own slice of a certain faction, 40k tries to really push this idea that every heroic action in-setting ultimately really doesn't matter, because the universe is too vast and planets are gained or lost at an alarming rate, with a level of attrition on a scale that can't be comprehended easily.
